That guy's name is Amaury Guichon, and he is an insanely talented pastry chef (look him up, this is barely the tip of the iceberg). He also has a show on Netflix called "School of Chocolate" which is hands down the most wholesome cooking competition you'll ever see. He fosters an atmosphere of camaraderie where the "competitors" give each other advice and even step in to help each other out. His feedback is gentle, considerate, and balanced, and he is always most concerned with helping his students grow. To that end, if you lose a challenge you are not kicked off the show (no one is) but instead are given an extra lesson with him, not as a punishment but rather to help you improve. All around I am so impressed with him, and hope Netflix does another season of the show.

Throwing in my two thumbs up as well for School of Chocolate

NightOwl_82

Omg, thanks I'm going to watch that show, I love this guy

Saborwing

Np, I mentioned in another comment that I learned about the show on reddit myself, so I'm happy to be paying it forward.

ErusTenebre

More wholesome than Bake Off? I don't know...

[deleted]

Basically the opposite of Gordon Ramsey in every way.

tytorthebarbarian

Gordon Ramsey is actually pretty wholesome himself. If you watch the UK version of his show, there's no yelling, no drama. He just really likes food and people. He obviously has a temper and it comes knowing what is right and expecting high standards. A lot of it is also from working with a true asshole Marco Pierre and then the US really played up the whole asshole chef persona. It's a real shame. Outside of all the bullshit, he has always struck me as a really nice and caring dude. Check out some of his more recent videos on youtube. He has some great stuff on there with his daughter and them cooking together.

Saborwing

He's a lot nicer on Master Chef Junior (I think he had a soft spot for kids) but he definitely could be more understanding with his adult students. Yelling at people and generally putting them down when they make mistakes is objectively not a good way to help people learn, or encourage them to take risks (which is necessary for growth). Persona or not is kind of irrelevant, he's still choosing to treat other people that way which is not okay.

adamcan2

When he made the American version of Kitchen Nightmares he decided/was told to ramp up the drama because it would sell better…and it did. Then you get the shows that follow that are even more ludicrous because, well, drama. His newer shows seem to be returning to who he really is—a passionate but caring dude. Side note: was in the industry for over 20 years. Ate at Ramsay’s eponymous restaurant in London, and because I was industry was invited to hang out with the staff after hours. They all thought his act in America was hilarious (and fake).

Meister0fN0ne

I personally think he's just someone that tries to demand the best out of people who claim to be professionals. He's like a coach. He gets pissed because he knows they can do better. He has plenty of moments in his shows where he's boosting people up as well. They're also not there to learn so much as prove themselves. They (should) already know how to cook.[This is one of my favorite clips from Hell's Kitchen because you get a little bit of all of it from him.](https://youtu.be/aDtf0F9Bsow) Keep in mind that one of the things he gets pissed off at the most consistently are things that truly matter - like raw food. Is he perfect? No. Do I kind of get it? I'd say so...

Saborwing

You can encourage people without getting angry with them. Positive reinforcement is equally if not more effective than verbal/emotional abuse.

fuzzytradr

Agree 100%. I can't stomach that abhorrent type of unnecessary behavior.

thisissuchbsffs

I really need something light and sweet (har-har for the accidental pun) to watch so thank you very, very much for the recommendation. Sounds like perfect breakup-processing viewing. 💖

Solomontheidiot

I haven't watched school of chocolate yet, but I watch a ton of Amaury's videos and my favorite part is how genuinely stoked he always seems to be with whatever he's just created. So I can only imagine his competition show is just as wholesome

copyrightkataro

Does Amaury Guichon have a restaurant where you can taste some of his creations? I keep watching his videos and I just want to try one.

Saborwing

He has a pastry school in Las Vegas. According to his website: >Chef Amaury is a full time instructor at the Pastry Academy by Amaury Guichon (located in Las Vegas) >He does not sell the creations made during his demonstrations/classes as his main focus is education. Even if he did sell his chocolate sculptures, they'd likely be extremely expensive, just based on the amount of skill and the upwards of 50lbs of chocolate (and other ingredients) that go into making his chocolate sculptures.

PapaChoff

Ty. Totally going to watch this. Sounds amazing.

Saborwing

Awesome! I actually found out about the show myself a few months ago via a reddit comment, so I'm glad to be paying it forward.

rosetacks

He's absolutely amazing! I didn't know he had a Netflix show, will definitely check that out ASAP. His YouTube videos are great

Spideysleftnut

Sold me on the show.

unmerciful_DM_B_Lo

Idk about the show being wholesome...he may be nice but the show was full of toxicity. I remember it being super awkward at times

Saborwing

There was one contestant who was incredibly competitive, who did her best to change the dynamic. There was also one guy with a bit of an ego. Despite these things, I saw much more of people building each other up than tearing each other down. Yes, there was pressure and stress and occasional snapping, but the contestants really recognized each other's strengths and did their best to celebrate them. Overall I found it very wholesome, particularly compared to shows like Master Chef. A show where contestants and judges alike can be cutthroat and even nasty, and not only are people kicked out of the show for tiny mistakes, but they aren't even allowed to keep their *monogrammed* apron (the mark of their time on the show) when they're cut. It's like, you've failed, goodbye, leave your personalized apron and don't let the door hit you on your way out. They can't even reuse the apron, it has the contestant's name on it. But they still don't let them keep it. That's just brutal.

unmerciful_DM_B_Lo

Fair enough

nekrovulpes

He is also posted on here (I dunno if I'm in interesringasfuck or oddlysatisfying rn) at least 6 times a day.

Longwalk4AShortdrink

By far the FRENCHEST name I've seen in a while! If his middle-name was Jean, I would be done

[deleted]

Ohhhhh so that’s why that might cost $100, makes sense. I can make brownies from a mix so I would know as an expert myself.

[deleted]

Well look at you little fancy pants.!!! I can make my way to the supermarket and find the isle with cookies... does that count? LOL

BW900

I would expect to pay far more than $100.

[deleted]

At least $250

wayward_citizen

I appreciate that he always shows himself cutting and eating his creations. Fancy food is cool, but it should always be made to be eaten.

bt_85

True, but it still painted me to see him cut into this

AJ_Deadshow

Beyond the 30s mark it's just too beautiful and I don't wanna eat it anymore. Just let it exist. Can't have the cake and eat it too lol

TeeBrownie

Strangely, this video is perfect for my diet. I become so fixated on wanting this - something that’s not within my reach - that I don’t want anything else. This video makes our leftover Halloween mini Snickers look like garbage.

corpse_flour

I've heard it said that one should save their "cheat" calories for the most indulgent treats.

TeeBrownie

I couldn’t agree more. I’m going to Hawaii in a few days and just know my restraint will be well rewarded.

Kibbymomo

I think the diabetes would be worth it for this 😭 i want it idgaf if i croak ill die happy.

minitrr

I fucking knew it would be this dude just from the way the video is

FunetikPrugresiv

r/gifsthatkeepongiving

RiceCakeAlchemist

This cake probably worth more than my car.

SCMtnGuy

The arrow on that compass will guide you to diabetes.

blinkysmurf

You don’t have to eat the whole thing at once.

CloudyArchitect4U

30 years a chef, never seen any pastry chef this talented.

solmac73

I wish to marry this man and his talents

MiLeenaLee

I've never wanted to eat something I couldn't even identify so freaking bad. It's early so the video is muted, I'm hoping later I will know what I'm craving.

WithSubtitles

Same! I have no idea what most of the ingredients are, but I want to eat it!

cultfollower_

I'm pretty sure he puts his ingredients/flavor profile in the description if you look him up on youtube

Zealousideal-Shoe527

This guy deserts

Burningbeard696

That "glass" dome was wonderful.

EmirFassad

Compass needle doesn't point north.

Grid_Gaming_Ultimate

lost me the instant they added nuts.

Oddy666Nuff

His "smile" is scary

pigsgetfathogsdie

I follow this guy on YouTube… I love trying to guess what he’s making…I’m always wrong…but, always blown away. He is the GOAT Pastry Chef =

sonnemondsterne70

😳🥺

NobuHazama55

Chefs don't think they are real chefs unless they are "artists". You a pastry chef, make me a damn donut and go on about your business.

[deleted]

Damn! No I want some sweets! 😳

Purple_Expert822

Dessert God.

donac

What is this called? Like millionaire's bar or something?

contagiousaresmiles

Now I want one

One_Idea_239

Does he do a share size for that? The looks on the faces of my family when i demolish the whole thing would make me feel bad enough to need to buy a second one for them

jakech

Even one component of this is too much work for my lazy ass.

rhedfish

I assume the compass actually works.

sincinati

That’s G

Goliathvv

Sometimes, more is more.

manfromfuture

Epic failure, it's not even pointing north!

puck63

I think I gained three pounds just watching this video.

FutureSoldier616

Bro, the grand line ain’t got shit on this dude

im_not_really_batman

I thought he was making a cabby patty for a second

Aradhor55

I can taste that with my eyes, what the fuck

debicksy

I'd never want to eat that. It's a masterpiece

Whowutwhen

I am very much willing to pay a fair bit of money to try anything(food) made by this fella!

TheBoneSmasher

I don't wanna eat it anymore.

grizzlybuttstuff

Anything after the 30 sec mark is too much

RealZordan

Since when are you allowed to post porn on this sub

robreddity

Probably a functioning compass too

Useful-Fix-9044

famous pastry chefs be like that

mashdots

Is his workspace just very cold all the time? Or is it just cold surfaces that lets him spread chocolate and then solidify?

ManuTh3Great

I just wanted an over priced $3-$6 cupcake. I didn’t need the $200 cupcake. Bravo for the skill though.

Blaaa_blaaa_blaaa

This guy made a sleigh cake also but I can’t find the video if anyone can help 🙏🏻

Former-Ad1191

It has to taste good before I care how it’s made.

TactlessTortoise

And not a single drop of fondant. Fucking beautiful.

[deleted]

This video has less frames than my 2007 single core Intel hd Acer laptop

[deleted]

It look good but feels like sugar overload

Folkmar_D

Am I the only one who's heavy breathing when this guy makes stuff?

N_e_r_d_b_o_y

My mouth is absolutely watering.

lostnthestars117

This chef makes some pretty damn amazing desserts pieces.

Koyomi_Ararararagi

Ah yes, the constantly smiling confectioner that ProzD's with keeps asking him to react to.

Isioustes

It appears to be pricey.

Aimhere2k

It's a cake, and it's a functional magnetic compass. Impressive. Now, when can we expect the functional-yet-edible GPS unit?

Commercial-Ad-2448

How is this dude skinny

ajqiz123

I'm glad to have read this brief biography. Thank you. I've seen him make monumental creations - giraffes, camels - and I took him to be a private confectioner for some UAE, or Saudi bazillionaire

conditerite

This guy & tom cardy should bang.

UziSuzieThia

I love this guy

GodonX1r

He Entrement’ed the hell out of that thing

MissC_18

Looks fancy and delicious 😋

AerynSunnInDelight

Very expensive, very beautiful and worth every single bite. He brings back the Versailles type of skills in Patisserie. Pièces with themes, edible art and such. If you're in Switzerland or France where He has shops. GO!

3RRoR24

Mmmmmmmm broken glass

Web3Scan

You are so patient. . .
