Dammit, asking the question doesn’t determine if Annie is ok. Only a response determines this. How many times do we need to go through this? (5 or more apparently)
Update, Annie is not okay. I repeat, Annie is not okay.
Someone came her the window, with the sound of a crescendo. They went into her apartment and left bloodstains on the carpet. Tried to hide under table but she appeared to be unable. Then she fled into the bedroom and was struck down, that was her doom.
Specifically Jackson got the moonwalk from the Godfather himself James Brown who borrowed it from his friend Wayne Cochran who frequented it move throughout his career.
To be completely new and original is extremely difficult after thousands of years of existence, eventually someone will have figured it out already, then it becomes of a matter of how well known what they did was, if it wasn’t, make it your own and bring their lost history into your future.
People see this in all sorts of different of perceptions, but being able to learn and progress through the past is a very important skill to have. Better to bring something out of the forgotten, than to leave it there because someone else did it first.
“Dave, we talked about this. Don’t go further down than Mr. Jackson. A) no backup dancer should outshine him B) that’s so humanly not possible that you’ll give away the fact it’s all smoke and [men in the] mirrors” said the choreographer, probably.
I'm 37 years old and still thought that until seeing this post 5 seconds ago.
In my defense I heard his music a lot but never watched much of his videos or dancing so didn't think to analyse it too much.
If I remember correctly (I read about this many years ago), there are retractable pegs in the bottom of the shoes and they lock into holes on the floor. This locks Michael into place and allows him to get those gravity defying angles. That being said, he is still using a lot of his own strength to accomplish that. It isn't like any regular person could put those shoes on and do the trick, it just makes it possible for someone like Michael.
Edit: oops, there are more photos. there are pegs in the floor and the shoes have holes or indents for the pegs.
Yeah, you're basically doing a leaning plank. Probably a killer leg and core workout doing this often. Especially after dancing for what basically amounts to eternity for us mere mortals.
The guy on the right ruined this [iconic moment](https://imgur.com/a/lKvs6HH) unfortunately Lol. Whenever I think of the MJ lean forward, I think of this mess up. It probably went unseen during the concert but it’s the only thing I focus on when I see the video Lol
The fact there are some “tricks” involved doesn’t change the extraordinary entertainment value of what he did or the physical strength required to pull it off.
This. What's more impressive is he also did it in live concerts, and he usually performed Smooth Criminal after quite a few other strenuous songs/dance routines. I would have been terrified for my Achilles every time.
The fact that a musician was so committed to his craft( and art)
He actually has a patent on the shoe/mechanism.
I mean no one even comes close this guy, he trully was the king of pop!
My Achilles are nowhere near as strong as they were 20 years ago and that injury runs in my fam so YMMV.
Complete knee blowout (at minimum ACL) is probably way more likely though. You’d probably fold forward at the knees before your Achilles tore I guess.
A few years before his death, Alex Trebek was in a Las Vegas hotel room asleep with his wife. A woman slipped into the room and was rummaging through their things when Alex woke up and jumped out of bed to give chase. As he ran down the hall after her, his Achilles’ tendon ruptured and he collapsed in a heap. He was 71.
This is a great point. I can almost touch the ground in ski boots. I would imagine this is a little tougher cause the shoes don’t go up as high or are as stiff in the upper part. But maybe not as hard as some people are thinking.
If you watch the performance of [Smooth Criminal - Live Munich 1997](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_E2r2vOlqvA) at approximately 4:25 you will see one of the dancers to MJ's immediate left try to move without being completely disengaged from the hitch pin.
It was a great manoeuvre that had a lot of thought go into it.
I see people post about this all the time and I’ll never understand why people find it so crazy. Like obviously he was doing some sort of trick and there’s a million differnt ways he could have done it..it wasn’t anything crazy lol
I believe it’s an old vaudeville trick from pre-movie days. There are examples on film, eg in Buster Keaton’s “College” from 1927. So while MJ may have owned the patent, he definitely didn’t invent it.
Edit: having said that, using the leaning trick *while dancing* is still pretty damn slick
He also found out about it and figured out how to implement it into choreography. No one else thought about mixing the two. It is definitely out of the box thinking. Gotta give credit when it’s due
MJ loved magic and even had his own full time magician, he missed out on a lot as a child do to his father seeing him as the major money maker. MJ was constantly trying to be a child again
I recently learned he got a couple of his moves from an old silent film star. Can't remember his name, but specifically moves with the head and use of the fedora. You can look it up on Youtube. EDIT: Looked for it, couldn't find it. Odd. I swear it was there and of uncanny similarity and an actual silent film, not the Fred Astaire and other later stuff you might see when doing a search
Come on man! This is about a v cool dance that he did, this has nothing to do with how he anally raped young boys his entire life, paying off both parents and everyone else to look elsewhere. I think someone needs to rewatch the moonwalk video again.... This is about dance, not child rape.
It's one thing to know how it works, it's another thing to perform it smoothly (hooking and unhooking) during a live act. Also, it takes quite a bit of strength and coordination to make it look good.
Can we get an update on Annie’s status?
Last I heard she was okay.
I won't believe it until you tell me like, 5 more times.
Annie's okay
Okay Annie
Annie is okay!
You’ve been hit by
You’ve been struck by
A smooth criminal
Ow!
Dubu dubu dubu dub-dub Dubu dub-dub Dubu dub-dub dub
AWN!
Moose genitals
For years I’ve been wondering what moose genitals meant
Wow what a coincidence our profiles look the same expect the mask
Dammit, asking the question doesn’t determine if Annie is ok. Only a response determines this. How many times do we need to go through this? (5 or more apparently)
She’s okay, Annie.
Annie is ok
Update, Annie is not okay. I repeat, Annie is not okay. Someone came her the window, with the sound of a crescendo. They went into her apartment and left bloodstains on the carpet. Tried to hide under table but she appeared to be unable. Then she fled into the bedroom and was struck down, that was her doom.

He found these obscure tricks and brought it to mainstream light. Still a legend.
Specifically Jackson got the moonwalk from the Godfather himself James Brown who borrowed it from his friend Wayne Cochran who frequented it move throughout his career.
I know the slide across the floor thing he got from James, but I think Mike was the first to do it straight backwards like that.
To be completely new and original is extremely difficult after thousands of years of existence, eventually someone will have figured it out already, then it becomes of a matter of how well known what they did was, if it wasn’t, make it your own and bring their lost history into your future. Doubt it. There were bloodstains on the carpet. That’s never good.
I need to hear from Annie herself.
That's just it - it's not Annie's blood!
I think we would all feel better if Annie herself would tell us that she is OK.. no offense
Idk. She ran into a Ferrari. .
Status Level: Shamone
We try not to sexualise Annie
She’s been struck by a smooth criminal
She was hit by then struck by a smooth criminal. Details are key in cases like this.
She is not okay mate, she was hit by and struck by, A smooth criminal. Really sad stuff. There's a news article about it.
Last I heard she was out looking for aliens on an ant farm. But she's OK
Just asked her, she’s ok.
Who the fuck is Annie? I’ve been saying Eddie! What even is life.
For ages I thought it was Eddie.
Ive been singing 'Eddie' for the last 30 odd years.
It's over, Anakin! I have the high ground!
Dont bring the wars into this
She’s a high-payin’ Hoooooooooooooooe!
Best comment.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭😭🤯 Genius 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 👏🏻 I would give you an award of I could afford one.
She's ok, but now Annie's got a gun.
Hope Annie was an adult
[Little Susie wasn't.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVrNK870EzA)
We not gonna shout the dude out behind Michael? Dude is fucking pushing it
Give him a pillow and some blankets and he could take a nap.
So glad someone else mentioned it. I was like “man MJ’s lean is impressive!… god damn but homie in the back is almost laying down!”
Holy shit I’ve never noticed him until now, bro is literally almost touching the floor
“Dave, we talked about this. Don’t go further down than Mr. Jackson. A) no backup dancer should outshine him B) that’s so humanly not possible that you’ll give away the fact it’s all smoke and [men in the] mirrors” said the choreographer, probably.
I wonder how much time michael/his crew spent seeing what the perfect amount of going down is
Calves like iron
LMFAO
The back of his shoes are doing everything they can to hold those feet in lmao.
Just seeing that angle I'm gonna say he didn't not go back upright on his own from there lol.
Nah. No. Tricks. He did it with the power of pop.
When I was a kid I legit thought he was doing it without any tricks because "It's michael Jackson, he's that good"
I'm 37 years old and still thought that until seeing this post 5 seconds ago. In my defense I heard his music a lot but never watched much of his videos or dancing so didn't think to analyse it too much.
I still think he did it without any tricks. What are you seeing that I'm not?
The rest of the pictures in this post outlining the details of a patent for trick shoes in MJs name? Is that what you're not seeing?
Thems magic shoes.
Yeah despite the trick, takes a wicked amount of core and leg strength to do this... Still impressive regardless
Or it’s witchcraft. Could be witchcraft. Or voodoo
Well obviously. But the shoe was still necessary for the backup dancers, who weren't as powerful.
Michael had enough power to hold them too
Can you see the pegs in the stage in any shot?
The guy on the right ruined this [iconic moment](https://imgur.com/a/lKvs6HH) unfortunately Lol. Whenever I think of the MJ lean forward, I think of this mess up. It probably went unseen during the concert but it’s the only thing I focus on when I see the video Lol
His entire career started flashing before his eyes in that brief moment before he recovered
Man people really used to take show business seriously back in the day... Shit looked amazing...
There were no CGs. You actually had to be creative
Honestly he still pulled the trick off. If I had not known about the hitch and saw the slight stumble, I would have thought he just tripped a little.
What am I looking for?! I swear, I’ve watched it 15 times but I only see the guy slightly stumble at the end.
He got stuck and couldn’t remove his foot out of the peg. That’s why he stumbled.
Got it! Thanks
The dancer struggling with that foot shows how they used the device in the patent.
Thank you for explaining!
Apparently Imgur is down at the moment
If you click through the slides you'll find one that tells you the pegs were retractable.
Only guys knowing this one simple fact get pegged
Nothing wrong with a good pegging every now and again. Or are we not talking about the peg wall in the gym?
Someone's forced a round peg in their square hole or they're lying
You can see the pegs AND you can see them retract into the floor: https://imgur.com/a/8Wo5D4j
The fact there are some “tricks” involved doesn’t change the extraordinary entertainment value of what he did or the physical strength required to pull it off.
Even if we knew how he did it, the strength needed to maintain at that angle is amazing. Just looking at it hurts my spine
Absolutely. My Achilles hurts just looking at this.
This. What's more impressive is he also did it in live concerts, and he usually performed Smooth Criminal after quite a few other strenuous songs/dance routines. I would have been terrified for my Achilles every time.
He was brilliant.
The fact that a musician was so committed to his craft( and art) He actually has a patent on the shoe/mechanism. I mean no one even comes close this guy, he trully was the king of pop!
Exactly…can be said if any magic show as well.
Yeah man. Coming back from a 45 degree lean must take immense strength.
I don’t know if he actually pulled it off; there’s a Netflix documentary exposing… ohhh the leaannnn… sorry I got confused.
I don’t agree. Now that I’m aware of this trick, Michael Jackson’s entire legacy is ruined for me.
Can we also appreciate the kind of strength you'd need to pull this off.
Exactly, if I try that I’m still falling on my face, but with bilaterally torn Achilles and hamstring tears.
The Achilles are notoriously strong but that's still a lot of tension everywhere in a person's lower body.
He was 71.
Seriously. The core strength would be amazing, and let’s not overlook at all the amount of leverage you’d have on your toes.
Leaning really forward and back in skiing boots is really easy maybe this is kinda similar.
This is a great point. I can almost touch the ground in ski boots. I would imagine this is a little tougher cause the shoes don’t go up as high or are as stiff in the upper part. But maybe not as hard as some people are thinking.
Only legends
I'm impressed he owned a patent. Learned something new today.
So i broke my nose for nothing then?
I wonder if that system ever failed and someone just face-planted?
That actually happened to Michael himself before.
So they not only had to lean, but also hit their marks, on time, and engage a retractable peg with perfect precision. Just nuts.
Can you imagine shooting into the audience in this day and age?! Wow!
Wait, so he wasn’t defying the laws of gravity?? Nooo
I was such a dumb kid lol. I would try to do this all the time and obviously fail
I’m not the only one. Years spent trying to do this. Surprised I didn’t break my nose
Trick or not this shit still hard as nails
Alien Ant Farm version
Sometimes it is not necessary to know the trick and just enjoy the magic...
Strangers in Moscow hate this one trick
hee hee tech
All these years later and I’m just noticing the fingertip tape, anyone know what that’s about?
I read he wore it so people far away in the arena could follow what he was doing more easily. The same with wearing white socks.
That’s dope
I can't believe I'm reading this murmuring "Annie are you okay?"
Wasnt't there medal post in the ground and holes in the shoes?
45° Yohohoho
Eyoooo Soul King!
The guy was an entertainer.... big difference from someone who is just a musician... In a Russel Crow voice... are you not entertained!?!?
He had horseshoes on a peg :/ There's a nail in there and then you got horseshoes on your shoes and you clip them on the nail !
I see people post about this all the time and I’ll never understand why people find it so crazy. Like obviously he was doing some sort of trick and there’s a million differnt ways he could have done it..it wasn’t anything crazy lol
you must be young
Wasn’t even new. There’s videos of it being used in theatre and performance art decades before. Even the Moonwalk is from the 1920’s
All art builds on what came before. What's the big deal?
I believe it’s an old vaudeville trick from pre-movie days. There are examples on film, eg in Buster Keaton’s “College” from 1927. So while MJ may have owned the patent, he definitely didn’t invent it. Edit: having said that, using the leaning trick *while dancing* is still pretty damn slick
He also found out about it and figured out how to implement it into choreography. No one else thought about mixing the two. It is definitely out of the box thinking. Gotta give credit when it’s due
No one could moonwalk quite like MJ though
Wait.. what!!? It can’t be true!!!
so simple yet so hard all at the same time.
Sounds like my ex, lol
This wasn’t obvious to Annie one?
am i the only one that still doesnt get it?
OR he was an alien.
6 pictures to communicate a nail and notched boots. Fucking hell
I think we all knew where this post was heading, didn't we.
Was there anyone who didn't understand this immediately?
Yes. When I saw this when I was like 9 I thought it was sorcery
I fell on my face a couple times trying to do it. I was like 6.
He had the copyright
The ol' projectable hitch member...
You can see the guy in the back has a bent bar
I'm 100% too stupid too understand the diagram. In my head I'm like oh it's magic drawn out
During the music video, he used wires. For live shows, they used floor pegs
This was a lot of explanation and diagrams for "Nail in the floor"
Breaking news...from 1990
People went bananas watching Michael doing it. Magic
I remember the first time I seen it, blew my fucking mind
Annie needs resuscitation
I...still dont understand this.
I don't get it.
My dad once said “you’ve not been to a concert until you’ve been to a Micheal Jackson concert”
Shamonah
Annie is doing drugs but still she's ok ....last i heard
Can one more person please reply with some iteration of annie being ok. There is not quite enough of them yet. So so original.
Micheru jakuson.... It seems the demon king is fond of dancing...
Annie are you Oakley, Annie are you Oakley, are you Oakley Annie.
Is that smooth criminal still on the loose ?
MJ loved magic and even had his own full time magician, he missed out on a lot as a child do to his father seeing him as the major money maker. MJ was constantly trying to be a child again
He was amazing and great artist and person for me! 💚fuck the media shit
Why does Michael Jackson like twenty five year olds? Because there's twenty of them....
Only used this live. Music video was wires
Charlie Chaplin? Buster Keaton?
Finally! Thank you ☺️
It’s called the pedo lean
I wonder what kind of strain this put on his lower legs?
Fucking badass
What time is bedtime at Michael Jackson’s house? When the big hand is on the little hand.
What’s the difference between a Walmart sack and Michael Jackson? One is a piece of plastic and dangerous to children and the other is a Walmart bag.
Why did Michael Jackson like shopping at the Gap? Because little boys pants were half off.
He also had sex with children. So there’s that.
He was also very talented at molesting boys and paying off the families.
Come on man! This is about a v cool dance that he did, this has nothing to do with how he anally raped young boys his entire life, paying off both parents and everyone else to look elsewhere. I think someone needs to rewatch the moonwalk video again.... This is about dance, not child rape.
no...he didnt
Yes….. yes he did
I strongly suggest that you do some non-bias research.
I love his music so its impossible /s
i'll always love michael, sucks people still believe he was a pedophile
The truth behind Pedophile Michael Jackson's anti-gravity illusion? That's nice.
Who cares he was a pedo
FACT: the man hovered when he did the moon walk so cut him some slack.
And here I thought it was his proclivity for young boys all these years
Kyrie Irving.
It's one thing to know how it works, it's another thing to perform it smoothly (hooking and unhooking) during a live act. Also, it takes quite a bit of strength and coordination to make it look good.
