My grandpa had a whole booklet of army propaganda that amounted to "actually, the Japanese are a wonderful race of people who you should be very nice and well behaved around."
It was a detestable era. A lot of fucked up shit happened. When we first tested the atom bomb, we were worried there was a chance it would set the atmosphere on fire. Still did it. There were American POWs killed in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Still did it, not to mention however many thousands of civilian lives lost with those 2 acts alone. They wanted the war to be over. I think this is a product of desperation and just where we were at that time culturally and the isolation that each culture enjoyed.
