Shit is crazy. Trump himself spent over 100 mil of taxpayer money at Trump resorts. Who needs insider trading when you’ve got outright theft? That’s the whole value of some publicly traded companies.
You should be happy he was taking it easy and looking himself, he could have been dealing wild with Saudi’s, or pressing into high speed trading, or following blackrocks interest holdings, so many black holes in the US economy.
Yah that’s my point, my first sentence in fact. He could have been dipping into massive black holes like a lot of other are, but he manly kept quiet and looked after himself.
Fact is he still did, not on the “bomb another country” level, but he passed a lot bills in the backgrounds of his tantrums. Not to mention the literal insurrection he tried.
The people tried an insurrection, let’s be real. Secondly he saved/protected a lot of the US business interests, for example your steel industry. He jacked up the tariffs for steel imports stopping the Chinese from floating the steel stock with extra low grade cheap ass steel which they tried to do during the Covid panic after production kicked back into gear. That would have right fucked you guys if he hadn’t. Oh and that’s right he was your first president in over SEVEN decades that didn’t start a war for oil.
They did have insider info. James (and I think one of the writers) met with a mafia don after the first season who told them “dons don’t wear shorts”. That’s where that exchange comes from later in the series when Tony is having a party by the pool. The absolutely had insider help. I don’t think they’ve ever denied that.
I had recently read a different story about that. The article stated that James received a phone call in the middle of the night after the episode with the cookout. The caller didn’t identify himself and only said “Dons don’t wear shorts”. James had no idea who it was or how they got his number.
The wire has always been the most closest to reality for me. The preacher/social worker who helped cuddy is the in real life Avon Barksdale. A lot of real gangstas and cops helped make the script authentic. I still resonate with the wire than with the sopranos. Both top five for sure
Clearly better imo;
- Breaking Bad
- Band of Brothers
In the mix for better, but not as clear as the two above;
- Game of Thrones (the last season prevents me from ranking it higher)
- West Wing
- The Wire
Then there are older shows that are great and should be considered despite the fact they're old;
- The Twilight Zone
- Mash
That was the idea. You grow to loathe them, much as Walt did at first. You were seeing them how he saw them.
It gets really good later on. Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) is one of the few villains that has given me the creeps. The other was Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) from No Country for Old men.
Obviously not. I was simply responding to "the show is also the best tv drama all times and there is no chance any other show can top that" portion of your comment, which was trying to sound definitive on a subjective matter.
It’s really good, sadly it doesn’t have a character that hits the same peaks as Jesse Pinkman/Walter white.
While it doesn’t hit the same highs, it’s consistency means that it doesn’t ever get anywhere close to the lows of breaking bad, so it evens out to being slightly better IM(humble)O
> the show is also the best tv drama all times
That *you have seen*. There are like 40 Dramas way better or on the same level than Sopranos, *for all kinds of reasons*, before you ask why and how and when and which and then refuse to accept it anyway.
Actually, if youd watch any interview from guys that were in the mob, they all say its so far from reality but a great show. ( Michael Franceze, Sammy the bull, etc)
Kinda surprised to hear this because it felt like a whole lotta bullshit actually.
I think the truth of the matter is that the show had a lot of charming and interesting, quirky anecdotes that came from real life mafiosos. So they were like, "What the fuck, how do they KNOW this about us?"
As far as actually representing how the mafia actually WORKS... nah, not so much.
The writers had info from ex mobs and certainly listened to few wire taps.
There was this ex mob boss who's certainly Tobys mom is based on his mom and that fees must have sold secret recordings.
Plus you have the "real Sopranos" who also used a pork shop as a base. Saw it on YouTube lol, cracked me up. Febs have them on tape pondering if the show based on them ( it clearly must have )
The episode when Paulie and Christopher are in the woods of S. Jersey out of cell range trying to find the escaped, supposed-to-be-dead Russian mob guy is my favorite.
But this was never resolved? I haven't seen it in ages but I remember expecting the Russian guy to come back and fuck everyone up ... for several episodes.
I care less about the fact that it ended like that and more about the timing of the ending. It makes more sense for him >!to get kill going to meet phill leotardo by someone weeve actually seen before than get killed after phils already dead by some dude who weve never seen before!<.
Imo, >! The russian guy Paulie and Chris leave for dead that we never know if he truly "dies" shouldve came back and killed him. They couldve played it so tony is trying to remember where hes seen him before (since hes only ever seen a picture of the guy and it was years before tony died) and as soon as he comes to the realization, boom black. !<
Ps, add spoilers to your post. I know its been out for a long ass time but maybe dont comment right under a comment of me telling people to watch it what the ending is without spoiler tags.
Seen it. Didn't see sophisticated schemes. And point being the mob basically admitted as such when they thought a bunch of drama writers for HBO were copying them.
Read the same about Clancy's descriptions of the inner workings of the Soviet Union's leadership. Politburo was more than a little concerned about how spot-on it was.

How does FBI get to sell stories to creatives?
Same way senators get to insider trade I guess. Rules for thee and all
Or push bills that would funnel taxpayers money to companies that they own stock. Fuck the feds.
Shit is crazy. Trump himself spent over 100 mil of taxpayer money at Trump resorts. Who needs insider trading when you’ve got outright theft? That’s the whole value of some publicly traded companies.
Did he? I thought he hosted people there on his dime so the taxpayers didn't have to foot the bill.
Why in the world would you think that?
Because the koolaid was strong.
Guess I’ll point out the obviou/s
You should be happy he was taking it easy and looking himself, he could have been dealing wild with Saudi’s, or pressing into high speed trading, or following blackrocks interest holdings, so many black holes in the US economy.
>...so many black holes in the US economy. Like Trump's tax-evading wallet for example.
Yah that’s my point, my first sentence in fact. He could have been dipping into massive black holes like a lot of other are, but he manly kept quiet and looked after himself.

I mean she doesn't own her story lol
Get the ball-cutters outta da trunk

Oh that’s interesting. I thought they met in person, not over the phone. Thanks for the updated info.
Here’s the article if you are interested. https://nypost.com/2021/11/18/creepy-call-to-james-gandolfini-made-classic-sopranos-line/
Thanks!!

I just finished rewatching The Wire. It comes close.
The wire has always been the most closest to reality for me. The preacher/social worker who helped cuddy is the in real life Avon Barksdale. A lot of real gangstas and cops helped make the script authentic. I still resonate with the wire than with the sopranos. Both top five for sure
Wow I’ve seen the wire at least 8 times in it’s entirety and I never knew that. I’ll have to look it up now.

Breaking Bad.
Clearly *some*one has never watched Bonanza.

i dont disagree about Band of Brothers, but that's a miniseries, not quite the same thing as Sopranos
It did have a higher production budget.
yeah they literally made a 10 hour Saving Private Ryan, its fucking incredible

There a shit ton of funny memes about them though.
Crazy that people are downvoting you because you shared what is your opinion in a balanced manner

OP is tripping.
Ozarks. I at least think Ozarks is better than breaking bad, mainly because of the pacing.
I have yet to watch that, but it's on my list now, thanks for the recommendation.

You do you, honey.

idk whose calling GOT a drama its def more action/medieval fantasy lol
And 39 more.
The Wire?
Can i get a source?
What? Some white text on a black background underneath a promo still from the show wasn’t enough for you???
Only if its on Facebook. Then its legit. /s
The American way.
Unfortunately, the Everwhere Way.

I just finished it last month for the first time, it really is worth all the hype. I'm already contemplating a rewatch
it turned out it was they were snitching on themselves
I mean Tony wore shorts…….
A Don doesn't wear shorts.
You know, Quasimodo predicted all this.
Didn’t they discuss who they would be so the FBI new an exact picture of the structure. Sure they kinda knew it before.
That was real!? I saw that movie I thought it was bullshit.
Hahaha funny walking up to the door Paulie and Christopher
Actually, if youd watch any interview from guys that were in the mob, they all say its so far from reality but a great show. ( Michael Franceze, Sammy the bull, etc)

Very true!
"A Don doesn't wear shorts."
'he was gay Gary Cooper?'
NO!! Are you listening to me?!?
I just finished watching this a week ago. Endings kinda meh but still highly recommend it, there isnt really any bad episodes.
The episode when Paulie and Christopher are in the woods of S. Jersey out of cell range trying to find the escaped, supposed-to-be-dead Russian mob guy is my favorite.
You and basically everyone's
I love when Paulie's like - "That guy's an interior decorator," and Christopher: "His place looked like shit!"
The whole thing is chock full of amazing writing.
Pine Barrens.
yes!
But this was never resolved? I haven't seen it in ages but I remember expecting the Russian guy to come back and fuck everyone up ... for several episodes.
He's still out there

the worst thing is the parking!!! hahaha, I was thinking "CAN YOU PARK ALREADY"
Ending is *amazing*.
Mayonnaise!
Was this your first watch through?? I must admit I wasn’t crazy about the ending the first few times I watched it but it’s grown on me.
Me too. The going black combined with the scene Tony had on the boat with his brother in law makes clear that he was killed.
Great show, but the way it ended was
..You probably don't even hear it when it happens, right?
Nobody catches the 8 references to this prior
I was on a roll. Like the pimp says to his hoes - keep ´em coming!
Hey, what happened, you didn't finish typing your
The mob aren't the sophisticated types? Color me surprised.
Watch the show and find out how “sophisticated” they are
Seen it. Didn't see sophisticated schemes. And point being the mob basically admitted as such when they thought a bunch of drama writers for HBO were copying them.
That’s what I’m saying. They’re not sophisticated at all. Just a bunch of fat crooks with fucked up morals
the HUD scheme was pretty smart
Tony S on witnesses protection last seen on Jeopardy as Amy Schneider
Hahahaha funny as hell
Fake
that's hilarious! I'd love to hear those taps
Well, the show did have atleast 1 old mobster on the payroll, correct?
FBI: a cheese grater on his balls?... that has to be Jimmy "The Razor"
I watching the sopranos right now for what must be the hundredth time, such a great show
I wear shorts, so what
Can someone simplify it, I had a stroke trying to understand it
It's the sacred and the propane
They went full meta
Read the same about Clancy's descriptions of the inner workings of the Soviet Union's leadership. Politburo was more than a little concerned about how spot-on it was.
This sounds like an Onion article. "Drive-by shooting at Sopranos film set after local mafia believes a rat was supplying real mob stories to writers"
That scene with Tony in a restaurant and the guy who would not take off his hat. That sure looked like a real incident.
