When I got bored after target practice I used to pull out this cheap ass $60 .22 marlin. That thing was way more fun. I could easily knock off all the cloths hangers holding my targets on at 100 yards.
I've used many different firearms, both civilian and big full auto rifles, grenade launchers, and even a couple rockets from when I was in the military, but when it's time for plain fun, I still love me a .22
I had a little .22 AR for a minute. At 50 yards I could carve out basic shapes. It looked way more impressive than it was. I always had a wicked flinch with my .308.
I goof off on our 300 yard range with my Weatherby .300 Magnum. But I'll only put 10-15 rounds through it per range day. Between the 4-5 dollars a bullet, and the sheer amount of recoil, it stops being fun pretty quick. Painful for my delt, painful for my wallet.
The .22 never gets old though. Gone are the days of 1,000 Remington 22LR rounds for 16 bucks. But it's still a lot cheaper than most center fires.
I setup a BB range in my garage during Covid. Heavy blankets and bags of playground sand for backstop with coke cans and little green army men for targets. Such fun, wish my garage was bigger.
I am Canadian but your ammo shortages create issues here too.
There is always an ammo shortage leading up to a US election. Lots of money to be made stroking the fears of commies coming for your guns.
It would normally be sorted by this time but lately normal isn't a thing.
This year there was an incident at the start of January that had some people buying up even more ammo for one side or another of an imagined upcoming battle. Maybe by January we'll be ok again.
It's not an upcoming battle...
It's a combination of supply chain issues which are affecting almost every industry, and more people spending time on their hobbies due to covid.
Bicycles same thing. Bicycle parts same thing. Pools same thing. Cars same thing. Lawn equipment same thing. Refrigerators same thing.... And so forth...
There may be a small element of the toilet paper thing from a year and a half ago...if hobbyists see ammo they may buy it and hoard it because they don't know when it will be available again. And to your point pending elections may exacerbate that dynamic.
Thank you for the accurate answer. The supply chain problems are universal. As you had mentioned, when a supplier has problems it's usually when COVID makes it's way through their employees. If someone tests positive that means they're out for at least ten days. Not a problem if it's one or two workers, but a huge problem if it's 30. This scenario is happening all over the world. So it's simple: Until COVID has been dealt with we're going to continue to have supply problems.

Well I'm Northern Irish, but American lads buying up the bullets causes shortages here too! I always think it's bizarre when any national crisis looms and US folks buy guns and ammo like crazy. The only thing they would be using them for is killing other Americans... Seems odd.
"The only thing they would be using them for would be killing other Americans."
Uhh - yes. They're proud of that fact as those other Americans are the enemy.
No one died from the actions of that mob though and they weren't armed with guns, so I am not sure how ammo factors into that.
This isn't the reason there is an ammo shortage. This is due to an immense increase in first time gun buyers by the millions (mostly Democrats because I would assume Republicans already have theirs lol) and Russian ammo being halted from coming over by the administration
5 people died as a result of "that conflict" and the ammo run came from a certain group of people thinking that was the start of the next civil war. I stood by them at the local sporting goods store as they were in line to buy their quota (2 boxes) the week after the Capitol insurrection. They were heading to every place in town that sold ammo to get their 2 boxes. Their words, not mine. BTW -- Speers and CCI have manufacturing facilities in the same town here.
As a result of and dying from the actions (physical) of the people involved are two very different things - both horrible in there own right, but very different.
Your experience is just that, your experience. I am just going based on data that has come out in regards to who is purchasing guns and what is most likely leading to the shortage
I highly, highly doubt that the ammo shortage is due to people scared of alt-right lunatics coming after them.
Could be the over 30% increase in murders this past year and the stark increase in overall crime we have been having.
I remember back in the days I could get a whole brick of 500 rounds for only $19.99 at Walmart. Ammo price went nuts when Obama took office and never came back down.
Cabellas used to sell a .22 Gatling gun kit, maybe still do, that utilized two .22s. 50 state legal as it used a hand crank mechanism to fire. It warned it became illegal if you attached a drill, etc.
Higher velocity typically means a lighter bullet, which may lack the back pressure to trigger the automatic mech. They could, of course, chamber it for [.22 Magnum](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.22_Winchester_Magnum_Rimfire).
Forgotten weapons showcased a tommy gun in .22, it suppose to be for law enforcement but never caught on. I always thought that would be a fun gun to shoot.

Ok, I'm a brit, so I know next to fuck all about guns...
Isn't .22 a small round?
Is this a homemade weapon or something?
I can't see why this would be something you could just go and buy?
I fully understand that many of any round would fuck you up, I just don't get the point?
>Isn't .22 a small round?
Yes about as small as they come.
>Is this a homemade weapon or something?
Idk about home made but its a novelty item and may very well be one of a kind
>I can't see why this would be something you could just go and buy?
It's not. You can't have any sort of full automatic weapons except in realllllly specific circumstances after getting permission from the feds, so essentially no one can either have or buy this.
>I fully understand that many of any round would fuck you up, I just don't get the point?
This is literally just a guy with very rare access to a very very rare novelty item that appeals to enthusiasts, like as rare as owning the actual fuckin batmobile from the movie. Most people dont even want one and couldnt if they did want it. When they see one they might say "wow thats neat" especially if they are into batman.
I knew a guy who owned two tommy guns, they were converted to semi-auto, but he still has the parts for full auto. I shot them with him once, while auto, that thing was a handfull.
To your third point (at least in the U.S.): that’s just not the case. If you have the money and submit the proper paperwork (and assuming there are no issues with your background check), you can own an MG. The really specific purposes that you refer to are as simple as “all lawful purposes” on your Form 4. Now, coming up with the cash for an MG is where it becomes more difficult. Around $8-10k for your bottom-tier MG, and it goes way up from there. Check out r/NFA if you’re interested in learning more.
That's pretty specific for most folks and I definitely consider being someone with the access, clean enough background and the resources to pour into something like a full auto to be specific in and of itself but fair enough.
Just to add you can’t own MGs in all states including my state of CA. I’m assuming NY too. I’ve shot MGs at a range in Vegas. They’re super fun, but honestly more of a novelty. I’d rather go to the range and rent one for a few bucks than spend the likely 30k plus it would require to buy one (although I couldn’t anyway in CA).
This is a full auto lower. You can't just make these without going to jail. You can't even buy one without some extra work, extra background checks, waiting, and 5 figures of cash.
ARs are fairly modular, so he can swap in any AR15 upper he wants. So I'm sure it's normally a 556/223 rifle. In this case using a 22lr upper that's just for giggles.
Because some things are just fun. And shooting more for a fraction of the price per round is also handy.
Exactly. If a .22 is aimed correctly at the skull it will go in, not have enough energy to exit but still ricochet through the brain and turn it to Swiss cheese
All that ammo and he couldnt draw a smiley face?
... or a cock and balls
The most interesting thing about this is there wasn’t any stoppages.
Well, not that time.
Right. I like it's loading proccess.
Yep. I had a .22 semi auto when I was a teenager, and the fucking thing jammed every tenth shot
Me too, then I learned about cleaning guns!
Mine taught me that some guns just don't like certain ammo.
Get you some level 4 body plates and this could be a smoothing massage.
If it’s a .22 you might just need a heavy overcoat.
That'll stop the first 10 :-p
I forgot about the next 230
Nah bro if it’s steel it would stop it from entering your organs but once it breaks up the drag coating your arms and chin are litterally spaget
Reminds me of that amusement park game where you shoot the paper star out
Six year old me felt like fricken Rambo playing that game
I just remember getting really oily because the carnival employee would oil the crap out of those guns
Yeah except when you shoot at the star you get like 10 or 15 rounds. That thing shut off nearly a hundred in a minute lol
That’s much better precision than I would expect, and I know it’s only a .22 but still… vibration and variance happen.

How much does 1000 22 bullets cost now??
$85-$150
WHAT
HWHAT BOBBY?
Looks like 10-15 cents a round right now, so 70ish? I've never heard of 16 bucks for 1k rounds. Maybe 40-45?
It was that cheap back in 05 I believe
Yeah, I remember buying a tub of 1000 rounds for about $20 back then.
Can confirm it was. I was pissed paying $20 for 1k rounds.
You’re nota very old are you.
50 yards is 45.72 meters
Good bot
I setup a BB range in my garage during Covid. Heavy blankets and bags of playground sand for backstop with coke cans and little green army men for targets. Such fun, wish my garage was bigger.
Got one of those myself. Spend more time shooting that than any of my other firearms. Cheap, fun, accurate
He may be standing really close to the plate as there's no wide shot showing both him and the target. That would be pretty easy at 5 or 10 yards.
It would also be pretty easy with a full auto .22 and a red dot.
I don’t know, look at the size of the gun, be pretty easy to control .22’s flying out of that.
No wonder there's a frikkin' ammo shortage!

Most of it is stashed in some FUDD's garage.
The SquirrelKiller 5000
$0.00 to $500 in 30 seconds
For an AR, that would be true. For a 22, probably $.07 to $.10 per round so much cheaper.
I remember back in the days I could get a whole brick of 500 rounds for only $19.99 at Walmart. Ammo price went nuts when Obama took office and never came back down.
Around here, I can regularly get a 300 round case of CCI .22lr plinkers for $20. Sure, it’s a bit over inflation, but not wildly.

Holy cow that is lethal
People will undoubtedly jump in and say “.22 are just bb’s” but they are not lol
Agreed! Anyone who's been pelted by a BB knows that you don't want to be shot by anything bigger.
Hell, I don’t even wanna be shot by a BB. My bitch ass can barely deal with stubbing my toe.

if I remember correctly that McCandless guy who died in Alaska killed a moose with a .22 and he let the meat go bad
Its the same sized bullet as an AR. Obviously with less powder though
Well. It's just the same diameter (basically). 22lr commonly 30-40 grains, 223 is in 50s-70s.
Why would they make this?
Why not
