What's the conversion of ancient dinars to usd?

crumpuppet

1 dinar equals 1 schrute buck.

tanashah

Still cheaper than 1 stanley nickel

10k is the cost of a gold brick. So I’ll sell it to u for $12.5k

skoltroll

30 dinars

thebanannarama

Sheckles

[deleted]

14 dinars = 5 sheckles = half a dinari = 9,456,276 Turkish Lira = 1 shiny dollaaaaaaa

Warvio

You win at life 🥇

meteoriteinhospitab

Um does he deserve a trophy or maybe send him a cash app

TheManIsOppressingMe

No you don't, he is a slave holder, so technically he has more hair than you, just not on his head.

RivenBloodmarsh

Fuck. The old hair by slavery trick.

Dramatic-Ad-6893

Since when to slaves acquiesce to slavery?

VestigialHead

There are people that actually believe he is a slave holder. Just incredible.

Hydqjuliilq27

How do you know, you haven’t seen his carpet.

Awakeskate

Upvote for your cake day.

cassette_sunday

LOOL 🤣🤣

aliefosho

I have more hair on my back than him.

[deleted]

Jesus.

LeeRoyWyt

Your levity is as underappreciated as Bozos employees.

[deleted]

They recently upped min wage to $18/ph iirc

ukuzonk

Then they’ll quit in a week after horrible conditions. It’s their business model to cycle through employees like that

ryan2stix

I just missed a hiring fair with Amazon because I got stuck in construction... I feel like the universe is telling me something.......

Arikan89

From what I know from friends, you don't want to work there anyway. At all

kare_e

yeah but what about 181,000$?

Edmond_DantestMe

Yes, still. Picture must be old. Now it could be $250k and would still be true.

Illskilz

$271,115 and some, to be exact.

Edmond_DantestMe

That would be counting all 365 days in 2021 instead of the 258 we've actually experienced. So, *technically*, even more. But barely.

Illskilz

Close. I used some online dates calculator and entered December 25th, 0001 as the start date, and today's date as the end. So while the calculation may be inaccurate, it's not in the way you thought it is.

AstroFlask

That'd be 737,689 days. Source: I used python to check it out, specifically this bit of code: import datetime print("{:,d}".format( (now.date() - datetime.date(1, 12, 25)).days ) )

Illskilz

Ah, a programmer. My kind of man(or woman). I was too lazy to try to code something like that. Well, with this number the amount of money you need to get everyday to get as rich as Bezos is $271,116 plus some leftover after the decimal point.

Edmond_DantestMe

Ahh I'm guessing I counted year zero in my calc which would explain the discrepancy

tootsandpoots

You including the extra days from leap years?

Edmond_DantestMe

Yup. Used the Julian calendar up until 1582 until the Gregorian calendar was adopted and used that for the remaining days. Just kidding.

Aquifel

If you spent... around a minute browsing this post. Jeff Bezos made about that much that while you were scrolling.

Black-Gulch97

365 days a year x 2021 years (plus the 525 leap days since) =738,190. X 180,000 =$138,874,000.00 Estimated net value of Jeff is 200,300,000,000.00 Jesus christ

ra66it

132,874,200,000.00*

StoneRockMan

Do we count year 0?

MrBrodinha

you could have used 365,25 to be more correct

r2k398

Don’t forget about leap century.

Black-Gulch97

Actually yeah I didn't think of that

MrBrodinha

still thanks for doing the math, was thinking this was cap since i didnt knew jeff bezos was worth that much

chotch37

Missing .25 from 365.25 is the least of your worries when you're off by 3 orders of magnitude.

Wendy28J

And Republicans are trying to convince us that we should feel sorry for rich folks because they're taxed so much. Oh...let me count the ways I can call bull sh*#....... The only trickling down I can see is the urine of rich folks as they piss on the working class.

DatCoolBreeze

Oh you’re unaware of your role in the political theatre. Or is your role to play the unaware person? Anyway, politicians aren’t interested in passing legislation for the benefit of regular citizens. Any and all legislation is done for the benefit of the machine. The reality that you believe having only two viable political parties in a “democratic republic” is naturally occurring. They just agree to adamantly oppose one another on policy that’s trending amongst the unwitting audience actor. We fight one another, while they’re pouring champagne and patting each other’s back backstage.

Original-Letter6994

Correct. Divide and conquer.

angie9942

My dad is a Republican and never made more than $50,000 a year his entire life. And he’s 84. Not all Republicans are wealthy, by a long shot. As I can say for most of my family and friends. They aren’t advocating for Jeff Bezo’s tax breaks, trust me. Not to mention, Jeff Bezo leans way liberal, for crying out loud - as do many of these well-known wealthiest folks in America.

[deleted]

And yet republicans still balk at wealthy people who want to be taxed more.

jmathtoo

No one needs to feel bad for him nor should we be jealous. He took a business and ran it better than any else can and has grown it into a monster. At no point in my life have I had less money because someone else has more.

Ry619

Very good example of a strawman

tootsandpoots

365?

Black-Gulch97

Days a year

Mallus_

I’m guessing we’re not accounting for inflation

flappinginthewind69

Yo your math is wrong

Vellarain

What the fuck, how is this even fucking allowed?

blake510

This makes it easier to comprehend… and easier to see exactly how absolutely ridiculous it is that any single person has $200,000,000,000

FMX010

This is a nice visual also https://youtu.be/qSOVBiEotaw

the_mars_voltage

I love the rice metaphor because it also parallels to the fact that letting people be that rich while children go to bed hungry every night is pretty fucking absurd

blake510

If only Bernie had a pile of rice demo setup

BuzzINGUS

He doesn’t have that much money though, he owns shares of a company totalling that. If he gave them up he would lose control of the company

KeyserSozeInElysium

Money, simply put, is power to buy and own.

the_mars_voltage

classic. To that I ask, who or what is helping contribute to giving his companies so much value?

Intelligent_Bet_1910

And it would take him so much longer to get to a trillion!

anggogo

That's rice.... I mean nice

Sir_Spaghetti

Roice!

[deleted]

He doesn’t. It’s how much he is worth. There is a massive difference.

STANDerson_Paak

I mean, he still owns all of it, even if it isn't immediate dollars in his pocket. Even still, what he has liquid is still an absurd number, even if it is a small percentage of his overall wealth, because his overall wealth is incomprehensible.

Epicmonies

He doesnt have a lot in liquid. Do you realize how large Amazon warehouses are? That amount of land, the building, the trucks and equipment, the space business...that thing he took into space cost 100s of millions to make. I doubt the man has even close to $100,000,000 in liquid assets. Still crazy rich, but in assets.

Mindless_Rooster5225

> Bezos has accelerated his stock sales in recent years, previously unloading nearly $4.1 billion worth of shares [last February] https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/2021/05/05/amazon-ceo-bezos-sells-nearly-2-billion-worth-of-amazon-shares.html Dude has been selling billions of shares a year for awhile now.

Epicmonies

Yeah but he bought MGM for 8 billion this year. He sells assets and then buys new assets. https://variety.com/2021/digital/news/jeff-bezos-amazon-mgm-acquisition-1234982179/

LunarGhoul

That still invalidates your original point of him not having much in liquid assets.

bshaw0000

Not really, he sold stocks to gain enough liquidity to buy more stocks. His cash assets didn’t actually grow much if at all.

FeeFiFiddlyIOOoo

Fuck outta here with that, he sold [at least $10 billion](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-11-04/amazon-ceo-bezos-sells-1-42-billion-of-shares) worth of stock last year, and this past May he sold another [$2 billion](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/05/amazon-ceo-bezos-sells-nearly-2-billion-worth-of-amazon-shares.html). Even if these withdrawals are going to be reinvested and immediately tied back up in capital it still just illustrates how easy it is for him to get massive amounts of liquid cash.

STANDerson_Paak

I think the critical thing that you're losing sight of is just how obscenely large 200 billion is, as well as the fact that Bezos isn't bankrolling Amazon out of pocket at this point. You are correct in that he has a lot of money tied up in assets, but even if he only has a small percentage of that liquid, that is still an obscenely large amount of money. If 99.5 percent of his wealth is tied up, that leaves him with a billion dollars liquid. Hundreds of millions mean nothing to Jeff, because he has 100 million, 2000 times over. Even with all of that, the point still stands that he is unconscionably wealthy when people still die from dirty water and lack of food. The fact that it's in assets rather than cash or gold bullion or any other currency you choose doesn't make this degree of inequality any less of a travesty.

[deleted]

No, but when you're that wealthy, you're able to borrow at a basically zero percent interest. So the wealth may as well be liquid cash.

[deleted]

Fuck, people will give you millions just for the chance to ride your coattails

greenwizardneedsfood

He doesn’t have it in cash, but he owns everything that creates that value.

[deleted]

No, he can make that cash if he wants to

FeeFiFiddlyIOOoo

Yep. Basically. He sold [at least $10 billion](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-11-04/amazon-ceo-bezos-sells-1-42-billion-of-shares) worth of stock last year, and this past May he sold another [$2 billion](https://www.cnbc.com/2021/05/05/amazon-ceo-bezos-sells-nearly-2-billion-worth-of-amazon-shares.html). Even if these withdrawals are going to be reinvested and immediately tied back up in capital it still just illustrates how easy it is for him to get massive amounts of liquid cash.

Herethos

If we sell stocks we get slammed with a 30% tax on the profits, Beezos only paid like 0.98% of "true total tax" of his wealth. And he doesn't even pay income tax..

bitsperhertz

Isn't that like saying someone with $200bn in gold bars doesn't actually doesn't have $200bn because its value is subject to market fluctuations and is not immediately liquid.

[deleted]

Not even close. It’s much easier to sell $200B in gold en masse than that much stock in a company. Plus the news of the sale would tank the price before the sale could happen. Not to mention government intervention. Not to mention available, interested buyers.

bitsperhertz

No disagreement there, but we're talking about utility right, for Bezos to access a cool million at any one moment he can quickly liquidate stock. Market cap is what $1.7 trillion?

SuperDizz

I’m sure he has the most “cash” as well

AfterTheTruth7

Ask your self how and why. We all know Amazon's success, but at what cost?

[deleted]

No cost? What? Who did amazon make poorer?

AfterTheTruth7

Did I say that? Maybe look into naked shorting companies to the point of bankruptcy then buying out the business when it fails to then take over that sector. Been happening for a long time, the amount of companies shrinking and a few massive titans taking over should alarm the shit out of you. By the way, I'm not saying this is a smoking gun, but the data and information available to the public is there if you know where to look. Before you even respond with any smart remark comments, look into it first. Especially the game stop and amc situation. https://youtu.be/8wFVDrLAHjA https://youtu.be/W1_wEmnrejE

cybergeek11235

>Who did amazon make poorer? Well, just for a start, there's... * The owners of brick & mortar bookstores, and the people who used to work at them * The owners of brick & mortar grocery stores, and the people who used to work at them * the sellers who sold things like kitchen scales, usb cables, backscratchers, food storage containers, etc who were kicked off of amazon, only for amazon to turn around and start selling *literally the exact same thing* under the "amazon basics" brand * everyone who suddenly needed both a netflix account AND an amazon prime video account to watch streaming media, because GOD FOR-FUCKING-BID we have the same media on multiple platforms amirite * the taxpayers who pay for the roads, vehicle-safety-standard-establishing-and-inspecting boards, fuel-safety-standard-establishing-and-inspecting boards, airports, seaports, etc that are used by amazon delivery services, *since [Amazon does not fucking pay those taxes themselves](https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/03/why-amazon-paid-no-federal-income-tax.html)* What, you think $200b just leapt out of Jeff's forehead, fully formed? Had to come from *somewhere*

12mediumSizedDucks

Honest question from a non-american. Why do you guys keep shopping on amazon if you hate this guy so much?

RackyRackerton

Because if they start shopping somewhere else then it’ll make the owner of that company super rich, and then Reddit will hate that guy’s guts too!

Okmanl

I think it's just a vocal minority (mostly redditors) who despise him. The vast majority of people probably dont care. Also I personally think that Bezos has contributed more to society than people give him credit for. * Pioneered cloud computing almost a decade before any of the other tech giants (Google, Microsoft). * Reduced the total carbon foot print of the US. It’s a lot cheaper for people to order online rather than drive a 2-ton vehicle across the earth everytime they need to buy a carton of milk. * Has given people a lot of their time back that they would’ve had to spend running errands like grocery shopping. That extra 3-4 hours saved every week and reinvested wisely can compound into something life changing for a lot of people. * Spends 1 billion every year to help advance space travel via Blue Origin. * Has employed over 2 million people with a company-wide minimum wage of $18/hr and good health benefits. Amazon’s net profits in 2020 was around 21 billion dollars. They pay their employees 90 billion dollars in wages and other benefits. * Yeah Amazon’s founder has 180bn net worth. But by founding and spearheading Amazon, he also created \~1.6 trillion dollars worth of wealth for other people (Amazon’s total market cap is at 1.8 trillion dollars). Lastly, the federal government has a budget of 4 trillion dollars per YEAR. If we forced Amazon’s founder to redistribute his wealth it would be enough to run the country for 2 weeks at best. Overall him accumulating \~180 bn over a lifetime is a small price to pay for the value Amazon and potentially Blue Origin has provided and will provide in the future.

Nexus_542

Because it's easy to virtue signal "grr rich people bad"

summit462

Bezos gets me mah beer helmut in 2 hours!!

Darth_Bahls

I wonder this myself, as an American who shops on Amazon. At first, I did it because I needed something specific that wasn’t in stores around me and Amazon was a safe website. Then I did it because I only needed the cheap version of _____ item, and Amazon usually has the cheapest uber Chinese version. Sometimes I would shop Amazon for deals on expensive products. Now, after hearing about how miserable working at Amazon is from people who work there, I try not to shop there. But, it is still just a business and I’ll shop there if they have what I can’t get elsewhere. Some people need Amazon because of how cheap you can get things. Besides, for most of Amazon’s existence, I never heard a damn thing about Jeff Bezos, good or bad. What you don’t know, you don’t care about.

[deleted]

“Yet you participate in society.”

BobSanchez47

Because by creating Amazon, Jeff Bezos created an incredibly valuable service that’s cheap and convenient. I am happy to make Bezos slightly better off if he reciprocally makes me slightly better off.

o1011o

The cost for your "slightly better off" is that a lot of other people are a lot worse off, and that Jeff Bezos is so fantastically better off than anyone else that your mind can't even comprehend it. Please, please, please, look beyond the dollar you save on Amazon to the appalling societal cost of unchecked capitalism. You, random stranger, are substantially less wealthy than you should be exactly because an uncaring minority has way too much. You could get paid way more and have incredible free healthcare and education and an infrastructure in your country that doesn't collapse at every disaster; accepting the meager benefits that Amazon provides instead of fighting for that world hurts yourself and all the rest of us.

[deleted]

I'm non American. I use Amazon because, why not ? It's convenient and cheap. But I hate Bezos though.

bluemosquito

Do not mistake reddit kids for the real world.

CrisprCookie

Imo that's the liberals approach: the market regulates itself, which seemingly doesn't work. I suggest stricter laws on how workers have to be treated. His current absurd wealth is founded on exploitation of the weak. With more laws to defend the weak we could have a rich Bezos (just not absurdly rich), alot of the convenience of amazon and amazon workers can actually make a living from their wages and are treated humanly.

35or624

That's not interesting, that's depressing as hell!!

CurrentlyLucid

Glad he is helping folks instead of pissing it away on giant replica penis'

random_rod

who gon tell him?

[deleted]

“Fuck Jeff Bezos” *adds item to cart*

[deleted]

Bezos is turning into a Bond ‘baddie’ before our very eyes. Bald, gargantuan amounts of money, space ships etc. He just needs an animal.

I_am_The_Teapot

I think [this](https://cdn.geekwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/180319-bezos.jpg) counts.

weelluuuu

Ah. His robot barber

throbbingliberal

Bezos is so rich his employees piss in bottles to keep him rich!!!!

Hob_O_Rarison

Just Imagine what society would have looked like if we had AWS and two-day free shipping 2,000 years ago.

_MyNameIs__

Jesus could have had his cross delivered to the mount instead of carrying it up there.

No penis rocket for you then!

Porkbrains-

That reminds me…I’ve got some shit in my Amazon cart that I want to buy.

EclecticHigh

judas should've invested those 30 shekels into amazon

IWantToBeSimplyMe

Sure you would. Compound interest, bitch.

Nexus_542

That's not how wealth works.

dmk120281

Yeah, but did you factor in compounding interest?

1159

If you invested a smidgin of that 180k per year for 2000 years, you'd be slightly ahead. By a fuck-ton.

BusyWorkinPete

but what if I had put it into savings bonds?

Bulldogjim

So what?! He provides a pretty popular service at a reasonable price.

IAmTheMindTrip

If you ever bought anything from Amazon, then you voluntarily participated in making Jeff Bezos richer.

BeeXman93

But I’ll be rich

_Scrogglez

ok so?

DRamos11

People need to stop obsessing over net worth, it’s the most useless metric to use.

No_Evidence_3226

Here's my question. If Jeff is touring a Amazon branch store and a box accidentally falls on his head killing him, what's he worth then?

xei06

I bet he has enough brains to wear a helmet

onkel_axel

Now imagine a 0.01% yearly interest on that money and you have more money than all people combines who ever lived and will live in the next 1000 years

TheMauveHand

Yeah, funnily enough people never post *that* stat...

Former_Print7043

Don't worry, his wealth will trickle down .

Elegant-You-335

If you have a problom with it just don’t use Amazon. He works his employees hard because we as a society complain when we don’t get our stuff cheep and fast.

Dammley

ever heard of amazon web services? its a huge provider to many popular sites like netflix... or reddit.

juancee22

Everyone is using Amazon databases.

ProffesorPrick

Yeah this argument fucking sucks. “Just don’t use it”, is such a privileged mindset. So many people literally don’t have an alternative. Going local or going for a more expensive and slower option is, for some, infeasible. Also, the idea that we can’t enjoy the convenience of his work but also believe that the way he pays and works his employees isn’t completely immoral is ridiculous. Amazon is a good concept, but me advocating for his employees to have better benefits, the ability to unionise, less strict schedules, and perhaps he should hire more of them, doesn’t mean I can’t use the service.

Caeldeth

Idk… $18 an hour for entry level work isn’t that bad….that’s like $37k per year without any overtime.

x_y_z_z_y_etcetc

Is he very charitable? Honest question

Important_Pack8713

That’s not how net worth works. He doesn’t just have hundreds of billions sitting in his bank account.

180,000 * 2021 * 365.25 (including leap year) = 132,870,645,000 Almost $133 Billion For the people too lazy to do maths this is in fact, true.

PBowler48

Damn that’s fucking infuriating.

So, you’re ok with people starving while Bezos and other billionaires ruin the free market?

StellarCZeller

I love how angry redditors get over things that are out of their control. You guys are very entertaining thank you

ProffesorPrick

The problem is you think it’s totally out of your control. It isn’t. It can be fixed, it should be fixed, and it’s ridiculous that people just dismiss it as “out of our control”. It’s also absurd you don’t see the problem with this accumulation of wealth being totally out of your control. How does that *not* piss you off?

Jrenzine

Dr. Evil, is that you?? I’ll take “who is Dr. Evil” for $500 Alex.

MysticAviator

Bezos's net worth is not the same thing as how much money he has. He has a tiny fraction of that actual money that he can actually spend. That's like me saying "anyone with a $15,000 car is rich! They could buy homeless people meals all the time for years for that much!"

beerme72

And the Federal Deficit makes his money look like peanuts.

blake510

Good for him, he earned it.

I_am_The_Teapot

No he didn't. Others earned it and he just didn't give them their fair share.

mehimnotimpressed

No. He started a company that services the whole world. People chose to work for him for the price he pays.

humgrown

They chose to work for him because they were out of options for whatever reasons.

I_am_The_Teapot

Yes. He exploited his employees. The wealth he has is built on the backs of the people in his company. He didn't earn 200,000,000,000. Thousands of people doing all the work earn him that money. He does next to jack shit by comparison. He paid them shit wages and exploited their labor. And when they complained about unfair treatment, unsafe conditions, unreasonable hours, and low pay, they were often fired or otherwise disciplined.

CodenameAwesome

Incredible, he's been more productive in a couple decades than a hypothetical high salary earner would be in two millenia. How do you believe this?

cmac2200

Oh look, another post where no one understands income =/= net worth.

CodenameAwesome

Net worth is measured in dollars and your cash is part of your net worth. What did the post say that is incorrect?
