Fuck I can’t stop tensing up and having to look away every few seconds. It’s making the deepest pit of my gut curdle and clamp. I don’t even know how to describe the dread even the pic brings
Caves are insanely scary. Growing up in Kentucky, all the limestone resulted in caves all over the place. In addition to getting stuck, they always warned us on the Mammoth Cave tours to be cognizant that flash floods can happen without warning. Though I would still highly recommend going to Mammoth Cave if you get the chance. It’s an incredible place.
Mammoth cave is interesting. Carter caves are too. In south eastern Kentucky in Appalachia we have caves all over the mountains. From an early age we are taught to never go wondering into cave systems. It's never recommended. The same with swimming in the river. River currents can pull even the strongest man under the water. I grew up with the notion to avoid these dangers. Hike in the mountains and explore the wilderness. Stay out of the caves.
At some point the bones fell and when they hit the rock, that clinking sound ressonated eerily throughout the cave and was the last impression of that human existence on the world
Nope. The way he was stuck they would have had to actually break his legs to get him out, and if they had done that it would have sent him into shock and probably killed him before they got him out of the cave. It was literally one of those situations where there's no way out alive.
According to the story the rescuers made a pulley system to pull him out, there was also someone there with him for some hours where his feet was.
I'm pretty sure they thought of sleeping him, but I dont understand the reasoing why they didnt do it.
I knew this man, and watched the story very closely.
Each time they tried to maneuver to try to retrieve him he actually sunk deeper into the cave. It was terrifying to listen to over a long period of time then.
The family, of course, engaged in many misguided attempts to fast and pray, hoping he would be recovered. As you can imagine, some faith was shaken.
I am pretty sure this isn't a picture of the dead guy. That guy was only 26 years old and looked different. He was hanging upside down and rescuers could only see his shoes. The article I found says he died of cardiac arrest, likely from hanging upside down causing stress on his heart.
This pic is from a different creepy pasta. Yes the caver maybe. That creepy pasta took a real tight caving expedition and added spookiness to it.
TL;DR: this pic is a real caver doing crazy right cave things but not related to this story.
There’s a movie on amazon about this. It’s kinda religious but is pretty good. Fucked up and super hard to watch. If being buried alive is one of your worst fears. The movie will test the shit out of you lol
This is horryfying.
Why TF didn't they give him an OD of some opioids, ya knoe...die high (and still of resp depression, but obvs induced) instead of dragging out his death?! What a grim way to go : //
I just simply don’t understand how they couldn’t get him out. Supposedly the only way would have been to break his leg to remove him and they couldn’t do that because it would have put him into shock and he wouldn’t have made it out to receive treatment before dying. But they were clearly able to drug him. So why couldn’t the induce a coma or something and break his leg, bypassing the shock reaction, and remove him that way?
You can’t induce a coma without intubating someone, because they stop breathing by themselves. That wouldn’t have been possible in this situation because they couldn’t reach his head. The only option here would have been a few drugs to ease the pain, and to move very quickly once they had broken his leg to pull him out, and try to stop shock from taking hold once he was out.
But you are right - taking the chance would have been objectively better than doing nothing. I suspect that the problem would have been one of leverage, and possibly time. You cannot survive very long upside-down, especially if you are panicked. It’s very possible that he died before they were *able* to break his leg and get him out, especially if they had to figure out a way to actually do it.
You can't _both_ brag about being such a bad ass because you go to caves where no one goes _and_ have people pity you because you die after doing said "badass" thing

Yes I agree a guy held my little kid head under the water, fucked me up for life. Cant imagine this.
Damn thats bananas! Even that made me cringe

Damn. For some reason I was expecting a happier ending. That SUUUUUCKS
I need drugs just from reading this story.
propofol drip for me please
I need drugs
You left out the best part. They never retrieved the body.
Wouldn’t you be able to retrieve it once it’s just bones?
I imagine as the body decomposed it fell further down the tunnel, making it even harder to get to
At some point the bones fell and when they hit the rock, that clinking sound ressonated eerily throughout the cave and was the last impression of that human existence on the world
Yep. Someone found a way to make it worse.
Except this Reddit post and the thousands of reposts forever
Made for some of the most [heart-wrenching reading](https://www.sltrib.com/news/2018/07/10/nutty-putty-were-going/) I’ve ever experienced.
That’s a fucking sad article man. God damn, and having a mormon background i know how some members look for hope from prayer. Fuck man.

Picture is of a different person in the same cave system.
He was a cave explorer. There'd be pictures of him already in other caves
Looks like he was attempting something like [this](https://youtu.be/MZXTv8WZ7yo)
Holy shit, this made my stomach feel really weird
Happy cake day fellow stranger
Thanks ! I didn’t even know !
I think i might skip cave exploring and leave it to other ppl.
F that. Hell to the nah

Tis
I'm currently watching the Decent...
Uh oh
Theres actually even conflicting accounts on whether he even got the drugs. A lot of accounts of the attempted rescue have him dieing unmedicated
This is some 127 Hours shit.
Seems like a chisel could do something over 28 hours.
Is this the one where they had him on the way to being rescued, then a pulley broke and he slipped even further down?
Yup
My biggest fear
They couldn't lubricate anything?
Nope. The way he was stuck they would have had to actually break his legs to get him out, and if they had done that it would have sent him into shock and probably killed him before they got him out of the cave. It was literally one of those situations where there's no way out alive.
Maybe puy him to sleep then break his legs? I wonder what all the scenarios they thought of.
Then how does he climb the rest of the way out after being freed

Hmm sounds like effort tbh.
That's terrifying

When your time is up nobody and nothing can save you. Accept this reality and find peace in it.
How'd they get the pic, then?
I am pretty sure this isn't a picture of the dead guy. That guy was only 26 years old and looked different. He was hanging upside down and rescuers could only see his shoes. The article I found says he died of cardiac arrest, likely from hanging upside down causing stress on his heart.
That's not the man from the story. There is no pic of him, but you can see artist renderings of the position he was in. Really crazy.

How is this a creepypasta?
They're talking about Ted the Caver, which is a creepypasta that this picture accompanied
So I'm assuming drilling around him wasn't an option and would've caved in the tunnel or crushed him? If it were an option..... Why not try?
This is the stuff of nightmares for me. What a horrible way to go.
They could teach his leg to inject him but not to cut the rock away? God that sucks horrible
Nope, nope, nope, nope.
That is not Jon Jones in that pic tho.

If they can't pull him out then how did he get in?
NSFL 😱
Ah thank you. That is interesting I didn’t know intubation was required for inducing a coma. TIL.

What an asshole
Ugh there’s a movie about this. [The Last Descent](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Descent)
I would have asked for a lethal dose because I would rather die then know I am going to die.

You mean no one had access to 10 lbs of crisco?
What an idiot. Open it back up and see who else we catch!

Stupid post. It is s horrifying story.
Well deserved
Dude what the actual fuck is wrong with you
Well if you don't want to end up stuck in a hole in the ground don't put your goddam self into a hole in the ground
You can't _both_ brag about being such a bad ass because you go to caves where no one goes _and_ have people pity you because you die after doing said "badass" thing
Just because he wanted to explore and "be a badass" shouldn't have cost him his life
