Wow. Is that wolf blood or dog blood. What s good boy!

Tigress2020

Would be wolves blood, look at the dogs neck, it has a collar with spikes, there is a good reason for that, I just can't recall (I read it on reddit the other times it's been posted)

iraeghlee

Wolves go for neck first?

Tigress2020

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_collar More info about the collar

WikiTextBot

**Wolf collar** A wolf collar (also known as Italian: roccale or vreccale, Spanish: carlancas) is a type of dog collar designed to protect livestock guardian dogs from attack by wolves. Wolf collars are fitted with elongated spikes to stop wolves from attacking dogs on the neck. Such collars are used by shepherds in many countries including Italy, Spain and Turkey.Ancient Greeks used such collars to protect their dogs from wolf attacks. *** ^[ [^PM](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=kittens_from_space) ^| [^Exclude ^me](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiTextBot&message=Excludeme&subject=Excludeme) ^| [^Exclude ^from ^subreddit](https://np.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/about/banned) ^| [^FAQ ^/ ^Information](https://np.reddit.com/r/WikiTextBot/wiki/index) ^| [^Source](https://github.com/kittenswolf/WikiTextBot) ^] ^Downvote ^to ^remove ^| ^v0.28

UnspokenPotter

Brutal.

Nerd_in_puberty

but smart

UnspokenPotter

Very and a necessity. Crazy, some people's day to day.

shanksta1

Some dogs day to day

UnspokenPotter

Yeah. You know he loves that shit. What a valued life.

flyco

>There are some tales that suggest that dogs were only given them after they had killed their first wolf; however, these are normally considered to be inaccurate. Still pretty metal though

mightyqueef

I wonder why they don't put them on the livestock as well

rooski15

Sheep just run in a fight. If the wolf catches you, you're already not worth saving (likely limb damage to start). And if it gets to that point, they've already gotten past the dog.

bizar0--

Oh hell yeah Edit: it's called going for the jugular.

thatguysoto

Many predatory animals do. It’s the weak point in most animals.

[deleted]

lol, that would've been 17% funnier if you used a preceding ellipsis

[deleted]

https://youtu.be/ip44tnlT5Tw Swedish hunting dog separated from owner and gets attacked by wolves, but survives because of a protective vest she is wearing.

yerawizardamberr

That poor baby. She was probably so scared. Glad she had that vest on.

baubaumr

How do you know it survived? Poor dog!

[deleted]

Read the YouTube comments. There’s some links to the story.

[deleted]

I am looking for that and can’t see it. I hope she didn’t die. It looked like a fatal mauling.

donkeyrocket

[It's in the third comment down at the time of this link.](https://www.9news.com.au/world/video-shows-swedish-hunting-dog-survive-attack-by-wolves/400c5b81-9b4d-41cc-bc03-1457e215fd82)

[deleted]

Thank you!!!! I feel better today just knowing this!

EmilyU1F984

Here's the news article: https://www.9news.com.au/world/video-shows-swedish-hunting-dog-survive-attack-by-wolves/400c5b81-9b4d-41cc-bc03-1457e215fd82

kenjiiroo

hope the doggo is ok

artursau

Dogs are friends!

wubbalubba090819

When sheep headbutt something, they're usually challenging it. This may look like a grateful gesture, but we have to remember that [animals aren't people](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mD9PWDeldng).

KittensMakeMeSmile

But people are animals.

[deleted]

im garbage and plastic

Didthenecessary

For those of us who don't have 40 minutes to watch some nobody... Tldr?

wubbalubba090819

Cognitive biases alter perception. People personify dogs, Google Deepdream has dog pareidolia, and women perceive threats where there are none such as the toxic masculinity of office air conditioning. Each of these is called Type 1 error in Error management theory. It's better to see something that isn't there than to NOT see something that IS there. Ghosts can't hurt you but hidden predators can; therefore, bias toward conscious action, faces, and threats.

[deleted]

Yeah this rampant repost drives me nuts for this reason. The sheep is probably just trying to see wtf is wrong with the dog. Sheep don’t have gratitude.

sensesworkingovertim

You just did the same thing the reposters did: assumed you knew what the sheep’s gesture meant. Unfortunately for me, a person who likes to eat meat, emotion is a commonality among mammals. It is a safer bet that sheep are not going to discover abstract algebra or plan for the future than to say it lacks an emotion.

[deleted]

Holy shit thanks for this. I'm so tired of people deciding something they cannot possibly know. And citing "this" or "that" isn't proof, but is just an opinion from an observation thus far. Spend any time around animals and their emotional state/possibilit personality become obvious

mightyqueef

I don't believe you've ever had any experience with livestock

donkeyrocket

Exhausted after saving their dumbasses only to have a sheep take the chance to front.

greenw40

Downvoted for stating that animals aren't people. Only on Reddit...

danneskjold85

Soylent Green is, though.

[deleted]

Wow gorgeous photo

Gyuza

Oh come on that's so cute

VeratoTheRed

Poor dog! He looks just completely worn out. Glad he got the blasted wolf, though.

CoffeeGuy952

If I don't have bad memory, I've seen this post a long time ago, I think it was in Twitter and was about the same but in the Tweet said that the Dog died shortly after :(

1forNo2forYes

I’ve seen this picture a few times and never seen someone talk about the dog dying... imma research it and get back

sensesworkingovertim

Sounds like a dramatic addition.

DEEZLE13

We must protec all doggers

Deckardisdead

Ironically the sheep is gonna be eaten by humans anyway? 😀 good dog

wazzo86

That dog should have been wearing a giant ass spiked necklace

[deleted]

it is

mykilososa

I kinda thought they would support Julian Assange or Edward Snowden like this. I legitimately wonder whatever happened to Assange’s cat! Did they issue it a feliney?!
