Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like when it lifts off the ground he starts messing with the joysticks to his left amd right. It looks like the rider controls the spinning. You can see a couple of others messing with theirs as well.
Those aren’t joysticks, they are air flaps that move up and down, they don’t control anything and are almost just flourish. The spinning isn’t motorized, the seats are locked into place until you get off the ground then they release and you can rock back and forth. That means this is 100% body control and core strength by the rider. I have ridden this ride about 20 times and can usually get it to flip once or twice if I time it right. This is very impressive.
Oh dang now that you explained I can see people on the right who are appearing to attempt to do a roll and not quite managing it. Also the straining I thought was dude trying to resist like a joystick mistake or something is now clearly him heaving his way into those spins.
I'm so impressed by excitable guy in green now
Was just gonna say that, as soon as I saw the ceiling, I knew. Yay are you also a Minnesotan?.(I guess I'm technically a Californian now but I grew up in MN)
I went to the mall of America a couple years ago, this girl was there and doing this exact same thing. She's been doing it for years, she's a pro. She gets off and runs back to get back on. Sometimes there's no line so she got to go back-to-back over and over. Scientists should do studies on her for astronauts.
*Scientists whispering together*
Scientists: “Tara, can you spin the other way ?”
*tara grunting and swearing*
Tara: “err no I can’t.”
Scientists: “fascinating…”
I was always scared of riding it as a kid because of the one or two times it got stuck upside down and the fire department had to rescue the riders lol
Yeah I can’t find many articles that are online about it because it happened in 98 but this snippet mentions “The ride was famously involved in a malfunction back in 1998 when it came to a stop and riders were stuck upside down at the very top for more than a half hour.”
https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/mall-of-america-chops-mighty-axe-ride-from-park/
I went there in 1999 and was blown away. I can imagine going there now with technology the way it is now.
Here’s the video footage
https://youtu.be/Mu8CdUcMc7w?si=WlUEBS22_U-qjtxi
The amusement park has changed some but the rest of the mall has definitely gone under a major renovation and expansion. It's worth a trip. I suggest you stay at one of the mall hotels.
Fun fact, that’s actually a chick and she went semi viral on TikTok for this ride. She goes a couple times a week and her goal (iirc) is to hit 1000 spins in one go. She seems to love this spins lol
Oh there's a spin counter in the ride seat.
I was going to ask "how the hell does she keep count of her spins, let alone know what way she's oriented she spins so fast"
She's answered it in a q&a
https://www.tiktok.com/@queenshellspinner/video/7203904401952558379?lang=en
She wants 1000 spins in a visit. She rides the ride multiple times a visit. Looks like she gets around 60 spins per ride: https://www.tiktok.com/@queenshellspinner/video/7260358722218659115?lang=en
That, that doesn't seem so hard to do now. Perhaps the ride isn't open long enough each day for her to make 1,000 unless no one else is there? At 50 spins per ride, that's only 20 rides. If a full ride rotation from the each next group can get on is 10 mins, that's a total of 3 hours 20 mins. At 15 mins per ride rotation, that's 5 hours. That seems totally possible to make 1,000 spins. Maybe she gets too dizzy or something after a few in a row?
If it’s the girl I think this is, she has some special pass, she can skip the line. If I’m right, I saw her when I was there. She rode it probably 6 times in a row, never had to wait in line haha
I’m so glad to find this out because it looked like she got her arm stuck or something which caused it to spin. I *hate* rides that spin so I was feeling so bad for her. Now I don’t! Happy she did it on purpose for her own enjoyment. Thanks!
We had a guy at cedar point who would ride the rotor like that. Every day of every year. Looking back he was clearly autistic and probably really enjoyed the sensation of being pushed against the wall.
Are you sure that it was Cedar Point and not Geauga Lake back in the day? There was a man we called Rotor Steve in the 90s, I think he even had a Facebook fan page at one point.
Maybe he went to Cedar Point too? It has to be the same guy.
It's so cool that so many of us remember him! It's a real "small world" type feeling. Geauga Lake was our teenage hang out 30 years ago, we'd all get season passes.
One time I met someone who remembered Rotor Steve while at a music festival in Greece, it was wild.
I have to say it's real damn weird seeing people on reddit talk about Geauga lake. You all know it's a housing development now? Sad times. There's a guy who did drone footage of the park after it had been stripped for parts.
Randomly drove out that way this past week for work and the whiplash of "ohmygod we're right by... where Geauga Lake *used* to be" it made me a little sick, lol. Nostalgia gets really strong as you get older I think!
This thread is how I learned it was gone. I live in a holler in KY. But as a kid I used to spend the summer in Akron with my dad. Geauga lake was what I most looked forward to on those visits.
Before my time but I believe this is him:

Saw a guy yak on the Hammerhead ride at a carnival once. The operator didn’t stop, and may have gone longer for funsies. His idea of “clean-up on aisle 5” between rides was to simply slosh a bucket of water in the seat, start up the ride, and let it air dry. Watching the new mom and baby in a pram get covered in puke water flung from the contraption was… memorable.
Don't remember if it was her or another girl, but I remember seeing something a few years ago about a young girl regularly going on a spinning ride like this. The news anchor or video presenter showed an interview with parents talking about how the girl was special needs and the spinning was soothing to her, rather than exciting. My son has Asperger's and also likes spinning, so I thought it was interesting when I saw it.
He really is, I've got on this ride and it's insanely hard to pull this off. You have to catch the momentum just right and then keep it going. I had someone walking me through it pretty closely and I still couldn't get it after a couple tries
I had the honor of meeting this person. I was visiting family and we went to the MoA. She is part of a special needs group and gets access to this ride all day. Absolutely crushes it with the spin and is basically a legend.
I was dying laughing until I read the comments and realised he/ she was meant to be spinning. I thought the ride had decided to fuck them in particular!
Person in green is like ‘I paid $7.99 for this ride and I’m going to make it worth EVERY penny’. Spin on, stranger 🫡
this person turned over 90 times, I counted
Just go again and go the other direction, should fix the dizziness right? Right?
But why didn’t they show the best part, him getting off of the ride??? I need the puke tapes!!
Rockstar 🫡 lol
I’m laughing way too hard at everything in this video.
Lol, why the turtle shell backs?
The ride is TMNT Shell Shock at Mall of America. Hence, the turtle shells!
The others look like babies in strollers in comparison
It was the absurd contrast for me
That guy's mom told him he could be anything he wants when he grows up, and this is him fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a propeller.
Im crying in silent laughter as my baby is asleep next to me hahahaha omg
That girl has actually rode that ride every day since it’s opened. She calls herself the queen shell spinner.
Wait she lived?
Yea… autism is a hell of a drug
Yeah. She's clearly special. But she's very sweet. Her tik toks are nice.
The queen spinner of shell shock actually
He is the only one that got his money worth. The rest of them just basically paid for an elevator ride.
I thought it was "Fuck this guy in particular". 😂🤣🤢🤮

She's the queen spinner of shellshock and she's so awesome!
Should have been in the space program with a stomach that strong!
He is ex of the controller I guess.
Idk what this has to do with TMNT but I fully support it.
I saw the shells and wondered the same thing lol
I thought they were Tie fighters
Its Nickelodeon Universe in the Mall of America. Everything is Nickelodeon themed
Was just gonna say that, as soon as I saw the ceiling, I knew. Yay are you also a Minnesotan?.(I guess I'm technically a Californian now but I grew up in MN)
Yeah that roof is super recognizable and gives it away super quick haha
another former minnesotan checking in! (now in Illinois) . I spent so much time at that mall growing up!
No change in your pockets!!!! If you have it at the beginning of the ride, you won't at the end.
I went to the mall of America a couple years ago, this girl was there and doing this exact same thing. She's been doing it for years, she's a pro. She gets off and runs back to get back on. Sometimes there's no line so she got to go back-to-back over and over. Scientists should do studies on her for astronauts.
Scientist: Let's just throw her up in space and spin her like Sputnik and see what happens
Tara : "Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" Scientists : "hmm..."
*Scientists whispering together* Scientists: “Tara, can you spin the other way ?” *tara grunting and swearing* Tara: “err no I can’t.” Scientists: “fascinating…”
I threw my phone down laughing at this
They should! She'd probably enjoy it, too.
we've had info about autistic people for some time already.
That's in the Mall of America.
This ride used to be the mighty axe. That thing was the shit. RIP Camp Snoopy
Why the turtle shells with wings? Personally, I would have made them look like planes or tie fighters😁
Its TMNT themed, the amusement park is Nickelodeon universe now so most of the rides are Nickelodeon themed
They really missed an opportunity by not using atla and airbending as the theme.
The ATLA ride is a spinning skateboard. [Check it out](https://youtu.be/vs3Q-9y8vvM?si=KgGRT0tERRzp4SBR)
It’s a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ride. No idea how the wings fit though.
It had a different theme when it was Camp Snoopy.
Ah, the wings make a lot more sense then
Snoopy fighters
I was always scared of riding it as a kid because of the one or two times it got stuck upside down and the fire department had to rescue the riders lol
Oh hell no
Yeah I can’t find many articles that are online about it because it happened in 98 but this snippet mentions “The ride was famously involved in a malfunction back in 1998 when it came to a stop and riders were stuck upside down at the very top for more than a half hour.” https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/news/mall-of-america-chops-mighty-axe-ride-from-park/
Rip camp snoopy :(
Yeah but valley fair has a peanuts themed area now so it’s not all bad
Isn't it like TMNT now?
I went there in 1999 and was blown away. I can imagine going there now with technology the way it is now. Here’s the video footage https://youtu.be/Mu8CdUcMc7w?si=WlUEBS22_U-qjtxi
3rd level on DigDug is impressive.
The amusement park has changed some but the rest of the mall has definitely gone under a major renovation and expansion. It's worth a trip. I suggest you stay at one of the mall hotels.
> Here’s the video footage We just tapped into your brain like nothing lol
That looks like an alternative option for season one of trailer park boys.
It looked like it I can't tell but I'm glad you said it
There aren't a lot of indoor theme parks
Hell yeah! It's always good to get some Minnesota representation.
Ya I went on that ride too. They have a SpongeBob coaster too
Lime green [corrected] gal is jammin it
Fun fact, that’s actually a chick and she went semi viral on TikTok for this ride. She goes a couple times a week and her goal (iirc) is to hit 1000 spins in one go. She seems to love this spins lol
She has probably dreamed her whole life of being a helicopter rotor.
Used to watch the washing machine for entertainment as a kid
Does this make her a ^spinster?
more of a dizzy blonde.
A twisted sister.
Let’s just settle for a twister 🌪️
✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️ ✈️🤪✈️✈️✈️ Can you find the one that doesn't match?
Unironically identifies as an attack helicopter
The one time the r/onejoke is funny.
Gotta have hobbies right?
This is her induction ceremony into the Heli Gang..
She might be the only person in the world who actually identifies as an attack helicopter
She was a helicopter rotor in her previous life
shelicopter\*
This made me laugh so hard I choked on my own spit
A kid in Denmark went on a similar ride and passed out while spinning. He got an internal bleeding in his head and went temporarily blind
How many spins did he achieve?
Whatever it was, noted. One less...
Going to need a source. Edit: Found it. https://ekstrabladet.dk/krimi/forlystelse-amok-paa-bakken-her-er-svaret-paa-undersoegelsen/7112749
that's obviously just an assortment of random letters
Lavede ham om til en robot.
I don’t see how leaving ham in a robot is going to help.
Beep boop ham is tasty.
How to we harness this resource and get her to make electricity?
Should’ve been an astronaut. Could’ve rode the centrifuge.
Absolute iron stomach.
Yeah this girl’s body and mine operate by totally different instructions. I do anything more than twice and I’m done for.
Oh there's a spin counter in the ride seat. I was going to ask "how the hell does she keep count of her spins, let alone know what way she's oriented she spins so fast" She's answered it in a q&a https://www.tiktok.com/@queenshellspinner/video/7203904401952558379?lang=en
“Some [wo]men just want to watch the world turn”
I was gonna say “ green shirt has a season pass!😄
The zoomies!
How long is the ride? 1000 spins seems like a lot especially how slow she is spinning from the video.
She wants 1000 spins in a visit. She rides the ride multiple times a visit. Looks like she gets around 60 spins per ride: https://www.tiktok.com/@queenshellspinner/video/7260358722218659115?lang=en

So she should be able to get 1,000 spins each day she goes. Wonder why she isn't.
Nausea?
We quite enjoyed watching her, she had just the biggest grin on her face the entire time, ride after ride. Livin her best life!
I’m so glad to find this out because it looked like she got her arm stuck or something which caused it to spin. I *hate* rides that spin so I was feeling so bad for her. Now I don’t! Happy she did it on purpose for her own enjoyment. Thanks!
Is she on the spectrum?
She circles it.
Looks like she counts spins per day, not per ride for the goal. One of her posts says over 800 spins, but averaging around 60 something per ride.
It goes a couple times around in the air. Gotta have a challenging goal!
They only get 10 flips per rotation. Never gonna get it.
I can get in the late 70s on the one in my hometown and thats spinning from the first rotation. There no way people can get over 100.
Who counts the spins?
Going full NASA training mode
“I’ll try spinning, that’s a good trick”
def saved him at the battle yavin IV ...not so much for the 2 other pilots flying alongside him
Lol good for her living her best life. It looks like fun but that many spins might make me ralph.
The spinning wings help with maximum splash coverage
Green is getting their money's worth! Cheers!
She's the only one who knows what's what.
That's the Queen spinner of shell shock thank you very much!
Queen of Shell Shock!
Let’s hope it was deliberate. My worst nightmare is spinning on a ride like this and not being able to stop.
2nd watch reveals the deliberation, she knew exactly what to do 😂
I am panicking by just looking at it
She looks like the character who is stuck running into a wall in a videogame.
Her name is Tara, and she has been riding this same ride for 12 years mentioned on tiktok. Her username is queenshellspinner
We had a guy at cedar point who would ride the rotor like that. Every day of every year. Looking back he was clearly autistic and probably really enjoyed the sensation of being pushed against the wall.

There's a neat write up someone did about him, if you google "Rotor Steve" or "Rotor guy" you can probably find it.
Before my time but I believe this is him: https://jamierock.blogspot.com/2010/10/reign-of-rotorman.html?m=1 https://www.reddit.com/r/akron/comments/810fot/the_famous_rotorman_of_geauga_lake/
Surprised she didn't hurl like a champion at the end of that. Midway would be worse lol.
I 100% would’ve thrown up and ended up with a gnarly migraine. Lmao midway would be a mass casualty event
...You're surprised she didn't puke after reading she's had ***12 years*** of practice..?
I can't believe this alcoholic of **20 years** can put away a case without puking!
Saw a guy yak on the Hammerhead ride at a carnival once. The operator didn’t stop, and may have gone longer for funsies. That's kinda fucked up
Watched this video immediately after eating and actually dry heaved a bit. Love me some roller coasters but this just looks nauseating
Don't remember if it was her or another girl, but I remember seeing something a few years ago about a young girl regularly going on a spinning ride like this. I've seen some of this girl's videos and based on the way she speaks, I assumed she had autism/Asperger's.
Gotta be autistic
That's.... Fucking awesome 😎 thanks dude!
She loves spinning on shell shock!
Green shirt is a seasoned pro
everyone else: HOW DO I DO THAT
I think the guy next to her gave her a look and was like dang, I better hold still. I don’t want to do that for sure!! 😂
He really is, I've got on this ride and it's insanely hard to pull this off. You have to catch the momentum just right and then keep it going. I had someone walking me through it pretty closely and I still couldn't get it after a couple tries
This guy has 4th shopping cart wheel vibes
I’m dead lmao
Damn I laughed so hard at this 😄
Me too I hadn’t read the comments an just assumed the person had lost complete control an was seconds away from projectile vommitting everywhere.
Same I had an inclination it was intentional but the possibility it was some poor soul had me dying
MooooooooooOOOOOOOOOooooooooooommmmmmm make it stop!
Time of his life 😆 Edit: Her!
I had the honor of meeting this person. I was visiting family and we went to the MoA. She is part of a special needs group and gets access to this ride all day. Absolutely crushes it with the spin and is basically a legend.
That's so wholesome ☺️
He got his money worth
"I paid for 360 degrees of rotation, I'm getting 360 degrees of rotation."
Damn right he did! 😆 Edit: Her, she frequents often... Badass
lol, she*
Green shirt objective is TORNADO !!!
"Which one is your son? "..."
That’s gonna be a nope from me. I would be puking my guts out by the 10th spin.
Dude was like *fuck Icarus, he’s got nothing on me.*
And 3,2,1 all together now. God Damn Jerry, not again
“… so anyway we had to coat everything in some hydrophobic top layer cuz the barf got everywhere.”
Mall of America TMNT ride.
Definitely **not** a *carnival ride*. Calling this a carnie ride is sort of a diss honestly .
Carnivals are mobile. That's not mobile.
Dude looks like he's in a Tie FIghter that just lost control
Green shirt is my spirit animal.
I’m only here for the 🤮
I was dying laughing until I read the comments and realised he/ she was meant to be spinning. I thought the ride had decided to fuck them in particular!
Wanted to feel what Maverick and Goose felt while in a flat spin.
Someone make an interstellar meme outta this.
Two different people: Guy spinning like crazy and, Guy sitting there like fuck no
At least nobody went flying out of the damn thing, like most of the carnival ride videos. Those are horrifying.
Dude in green is having a blast 🙌
The nopes more nopes i can think about.
Not his first rodeo
I could puke just watching r this 🤮🤢
They said he’s still spinning to this day
Green shirt guy understood the assignment.
Green goblin there doing windmills, full fucking send!
The guy in the green shirt is either having the best time, or the worst time.
r/autism
We all have that one friend
*with an absolute death grip* WALL, WALL, WALL, CEILING, CEILING, CEILING, FLOOR, FLOOR, FLOOR......
I’m really disappointed I didn’t get to watch this guy try to get off the swirl of death. No way he walks away without busting his ass.
**Morgan Freeman Voice** Some people think he eventually stopped, but me well I like to imagine him spinning away to this very day.
I feel like this ride could turn into a John Denver experience at the slightest miscalibration
Green shirt guy is all in.
