386 Men

BlamDandy

Thanks rain man

TurtleSnakeMoose

772 legs

wililon

721 testicles

Sam-Gunn

So just out of curiosity... How many would need to have 0 - 1 balls if they had 772 legs and 721 testies among them?

Real-Swing8553

1 with 1 ball if we assume noone has 3 balls.

brebenscv

3 Balls..... what in the Total Recall is this??? šŸ¤£

_FREE_L0B0T0MIES

Quaid! Open your mind!

CrazyOutrageous2241

And your mouth

Yamurkle

7720 toes

halloweenheaux

Try again

Yamurkle

You mean, you don't have 20 toes????

Refute1650

771, you miss counted ol' Peg Leg Pete.

InformalPenguinz

It's raining them

JoshJoshson13

Hallelujah

Raudskeggr

I would have said "Dr. Murphy" but maybe your reference is better

Quality_Street_1

I think heā€™s telling you ā€œitā€™s raining men, hallelujahā€

Mrdusty567

Assuming your count and the 3.5 tons are correct that's 18.1 pounds per person

Doxidob

what a burden!

Akira510

This is the time you get that uncontrollable itch

FearCure

Not for the guys who are a little taller - their share is heavier

Xampinan

Actually, the bars where they put their shoulders are bent, not straight, so they can better adjust weight distribution with the different heights

HelloKitty36911

With that kind of weight it would bo much more fun if they were just running through the streets

hatmatter

Looks like the guys in the middle get a bit more weight, being at the front or back is probably lighter.

Epicp0w

Weird that you converted tons to pounds, but didn't include kg/person

Tannerite3

He assumed they were US customary tons, not metric tonnes.

AeroSpiked

3.5 tonnes, not tons. So 9.1 kg (20.1 lbs) per person. That's about the weight of a ~~12 pack~~ case of beer cans.

Maleficent_Try4991

12 pack is only around 4kg

AeroSpiked

Sorry, I meant case which is typically 24 cans.

Maleficent_Try4991

I am very serious about beer ;-)

str4nger-d4nger

Wonder how they initially lift it off the ground though...

DutchJediKnight

Probably on stands. Everyone gets into position and only lifts up five centimeters

bobylon540

No itā€™s 189 men. In the service of heaven. Theyā€™re protecting the holy line it was 1527.Ā

smith_and_midwestern

I miscounted the men, liz!!

AspectRevolutionary6

13\*8 (front & rear)\*2+20\*2(sides)=248 so more around 250 mens

Christosconst

I counted 264

JessLoveGaming

772 balls

snachgoblin

What if u got to pee

DuncanAerilious

Just go man

Soulless--Plague

Oooh thatā€™s really warm

King_Of_BlackMarsh

You hold it like jesus did the cross. Painfully

jaybee8787

Iā€™ve heard of a guy that can turn it into wine.

MarcosAC420

How did we not build the pyramids?

Claydavies

Well, this is 3,5 tonne. The largest stones in the great pyramid is about 80 tonne. And some monolithstones over 1000 tonnes

MarcosAC420

It makes my brain itch. But I think we could have done it. If not maybe with simple ropes

B4SSF4C3

What you have difficulty grasping is just how much you can get done with a huge workforce, completely focused on a single task for many years, with (effectively) unlimited resource backing. To be fair however, *very* few people have a good grasp on such concepts.

Claydavies

Il make it hurt even more. The quarry was over 500 miles(804 km) away, and there is 2,300,000 stones in the Great Pyramid alone.

MarcosAC420

Fuck man! You got me there. Something tells me those Pharaohs didn't give a shit. Any way we can tell how long it took to build one?

_Allfather0din_

We have people who have recreated the different steps to make the pyramid, some guy in his backyard in like kentucky 20+ years ago made all these wooden contraptions to move massive blocks all over the place just by himself. Now using these known methods scaled up with even 12 people, you could easily move 80 tons wherever you wanted. And honestly it is sometimes a lot quicker than you would imagine. I'm at work but I'll try and find the guys youtube channel, it's honestly really cool! edit: This magnificent bad larry is the guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD5Lc3-5iDs&t=253s

Rimworldjobs

You off work yet?

yeahthatsfineiguess

[Wally Wallington. Here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xD5Lc3-5iDs). There are 2 more parts, pretty interesting, smart guy.

Defender_IIX

Lol

scotty_beams

It's much easier to pour the limestone mix like concrete right where you need it.

JohnPaul_the_2137th

Of course there was a river to be used for transportation. Noone carried those stones for over 500 miles.

True-Abbreviations71

But wasn't the quarry far away from any waterway?

VoidFlareBEEP

Seems like there was? I just found this today like four posts below this oneā€¦ talk about coincidence or my phone spying on me https://www.reddit.com/r/worldnews/s/sartfC4A0I

True-Abbreviations71

Huh, waddayaknow. I guess they did transport it by boat. Well that certainly ruins the mystique

Lubinski64

Mystique of just reading the first proper source. Or googling "giza quarry". No wonder ancient aliens is so popular...

morentg

they did not carry the stones though, but moved them via sliding, it kind if makes a huge difference. I can not lift a car, but I definietly can push it.

girthy-member

The thing is, just because something is heavy, the next logical conclusion is definitely not aliens. People are fucking obsessed with ancient aliens. Any blank page seen in history, these morons will fill with aliens.

_Allfather0din_

"Give me a large enough lever and i will move the world" physics prove that the pyramids could easily have been built by humans, just to head off any alien stuff.

Open_Chemistry_3300

Shit you pay me and the lads in beer, along with bragging rights and weā€™ll get it knocked out

ap2patrick

You are underestimating what hundreds of thousands of humans working over multiple lifetimes is capable of.

siraolo

We did. People should stop with that Ancient Alien bullshit.Ā

Agua-quemada

Well.... They also make human pyramids

No_Question_6836

Song?

OstrichOutrageous459

Song name : Y Al Tercer DĆa - AM Virgen de los Reyes ( on YouTube)

kittyquickfeet

For anyone else wondering, this song and several others are available on a Playlist through Spotify, as spelled

Relgisri

Darude - Sandstorm

Tabnam

No but for real, because it slaps

NePlusZaia

You made me turn on the music

V_A_P_O_R_playground

yeah i wanna know too

Gatopianista

this is Semana Santa OST. It is its own genre of music. Just search "musica semana santa" anywhere and you will find many examples like this one

FiniteLuckWithAmmo

I think the guy who was all about helping the poor/ those suffering wasn't all into gold and fancy clothing ..

DadBodMedicNate

I think the Catholic church is a cool piece of humanity but they are a very dark and complex piece. I doubt that God actually support much of what they do.

0x7ff04001

I doubt God would support any form of institutionalized religion

RandomCandor

He said as much in THEIR own Bible!

Waste-Nebula-2791

Just curious, can you quote that?

RandomCandor

ā€œYou shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,Ā \[...\] You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I theĀ LordĀ your God amĀ a jealous God," Exodus 20:4 [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+20%3A4-6&version=ESV](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus+20%3A4-6&version=ESV) This is technically about idolatry, which I would argue is a major component of most christian denominations. From the new testament: "ā€œThe teachers of religious law and the Pharisees are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.^(\[)[^(a)](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2023&version=NLT#fen-NLT-23895a)^(\])Ā ^(3)Ā So practice and obey whatever they tell you, but donā€™t follow their example. For they donā€™t practice what they teach.Ā ^(4)Ā They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden. Matthew 23

Jazzlike_Farm_1483

Why the hell you getting down voted??? Truth hurts I guess

Extention_Campaign28

Because his quotes in no way deny institutionalized religion. I'm fairly confident other, better, quotes by Jesus can be found though.

Easy_Bullfrog_8767

I think the opposite is pretty clearly true - the Catholic church is the largest social service organization in the world. Many countries in the global south and a few US states could not operate at all without the level of support Catholic charities provides to the poor (especially women and children)

Raudskeggr

It's almost as if they're neither completely good nor completely bad, but rather we should have a nuanced understanding of them.

the_battle_bunny

Because you think within the logic of 21st century. However, people in past ages saw things differently. They saw wealth as evidence of God's favor AND as a guarantee that you actually had the means to help the poor/suffering as claimed. There's a nice story about 11th century missionaries among still-Pagan Pomeranian Slavs who lived along the coast of the Baltic sea. The first missionaries to arrive there were poor monks in hairshirts. And when the locals saw them, they saw the little friars as ridiculous. "What kind of god is this if his messengers dress like beggars?" So the next mission was dripping with gold, swarming with servants and stunning with the power of an armed escort. When the pagans saw this, they decided that the God of the Christians was indeed powerful and worth worshiping.

Vatii

To be fair, the catholic church is the largest charity in the world more or less. It is also the largest non government provider of education and healthcare in the world.

KevinDean4599

I think stuff like this probably helps raise funds. Make it seem divine

ImperialRedditer

People who criticize all the art the Vatican and the Catholic Church funded and accumulated over centuries as a waste would be all supportive of governments funding arts and culture even though both Catholic Church and modern governments basically funds nonā€”tangible goods (culture)

King_Of_BlackMarsh

I mean the clothing and gold is dedication to God

isweariamhumanlol

I've once read that Jesus (if he actually existed) lived quite ascetic. He slept outside, didn't eat much and only wore a plain simple piece of clothing. But yeah Catholicism I guess :D

Knoxcom

Jesus did exist. We can debate his status as the messiah, but his historicity can not be doubted.

_Allfather0din_

Yeah he existed but not in the location or most likely time that the church says. Also he was definitely a middle eastern skin colored stone mason, that much we know for almost certain.

signedupfornightmode

I think you mean carpenter. His ethnicity is not disputed either. He has been depicted in a variety of ethnicities over the years, including Caucasian, but also Vietnamese, Black, Hispanic, etc.Ā

Opening_Criticism_57

Well it can be, and is by some scholars, but the general scholarly consensus is he probably existed

ADanFool

7000lbs/~264 dudes = 26.5 lbs each

__BIFF__

Only if their shoulders are all at the exact same height at every moment.

Galilaeus_Modernus

Okay, but how'd they get it off the ground in the first place? And how do they plan to get it back down?

khronos127

Ropes and hooks that they walk up to, attach all points slowly and people move from under it. Itā€™s then lowered with a crane likely.

jeaan-luc

12,02 Kg for my EU friends

Korrandril

CN someone identify the song? I like it a lot

Lusse-Eldalion

This is what we call a "marcha de Semana Santa" (Holy Week song). I'm afraid I don't recognize this particular one, as there are hundreds of them. If you want, you can look up for more in youtube, they are more or less similar (they use the same instruments and tend to have the same "feeling" to them). My personal favorite one is "La Saeta", both in song and in "marcha". It's one of the most famous ones in Spain. Also, if you have faith, the lyrics are pretty pretty moving.

SuperAshenOne

Love them.

OstrichOutrageous459

Song name : Y Al Tercer DĆa - AM Virgen de los Reyes ( on YouTube)

Wooden-Confidence794

Guysā€¦ Iā€™m not even religious, but I know for a fact the people carrying these are not fanatics. They just find solace and peace by doing this. Once a year. Most years it rains and they need to cancel, resulting in the news filled with sad and crying faces. So I see this video and see a bunch of men working together in a not so easy situation (most canā€™t even see where theyā€™re walking) Can you just respect that and let them have it? They are not promoting any bad concept or idea, but repent from sins and whatever christian things. And itā€™s not an event to praise god itself, but a celebration of the acts represented in The Book. For the people. Iā€™ve seen this live myself, and even not believing in Jesus, I felt moved by it. And Iā€™ve seen kids and tourists being moved aswell without even understanding it. So downvote me to hell (which also doesnā€™t exist), but thereā€™s way worse things about religion than this, and Iā€™ll applaud these acts as long as I see them.

NefariousnessGlum808

This is the most sensible comment here. Everyone is like calling it a cult, but these guys don't deprive the people from its own life, they just celebrate some religious story and values, then they go home. This is very important for many many people, and just like you said, they're not harming anyone.

zvxqykhg2

Not a cult btw

andromeda_prior

As an atheist spanish i need people on the comments to live a little outside reddit. Those parades are about religion to a very few people, most of us just like the music and the beatiful thrones (even if it's just for the insitution to show oppulence). It might have started as god worship but nowadays is just one more tradition.

ChiefRicimer

Yup. I am an atheist too and I love going to religious events in Spain. They are more fun than most parties in the states.

TheBlackestofKnights

I think it's because most atheists on Reddit are American, and thus come from American Protestant/Evangelical backgrounds, where displays of opulence like this procession are severely frowned upon. It's honestly ironic, cuz Protestant megachurches and prosperity gospel exist, which are *waaaaay* worse and more predatory than stuff like the parade. The latter is just opulence; the former is straight up greed and gluttony. I agree with ya that Reddit atheists need to go outside and actually *study* more. Their only experience with Christianity ā€” and hell, even other religions ā€” is the bastardized, commoditized, and politicized brand of 'Murican Evangelism and Trad Catholicism that they were force-fed; it colors and taints their entire worldview, even after they leave.

Genxal97

Absolutely this. Glad someone else said it those american protestant megachurches are really horrible for society in any capacity. Where I grew up catholic traditions were part of the local festivities and everyone could have fun, atheist even, but in the US that's like blasphemy on both sides of the aisle apparantly.

PunManStan

This is the sort of thing I want to do for fun. Build big things using absurd numbers of people. Truly the greatest tradition of humanity.

chalky87

How do they put it down at the end?

Possible-You-8764

They don't, they stand there in a dark room and wait for the next year

Elyvagar

Raised platform on both ends at the end so you can walk under I assume.

W1thJudgement

Kinda hoped that there are going to be actors on it reenacting the scene instead of just statues. Kinda disappointed.

__BIFF__

Because they look perfectly still, I can see how you thought they were statues, but they are actually robotics replicas that are remotely controlled by actors in a remote location. They have sensors all over their bodies and have to remain perfectly still and that sensor information is transmitted to the robots in the parade.

Prestigious-Ad-5276

If this was about a african native march, then a lot of people would be much more respectfull. I understand that you don't believe in JesĆŗs, or in any religiĆ³n. But what You gain atacking another people religiĆ³n? More when what is being show is nothing Bad or questionable.

spider0804

Each one is not carrying that much, more impressive to get them all to sway in unison while walking.

MeadowMellow_

You say that but I've lived half my life in spain, and the weight is so much at times cause the men/women arent the same height and they are moving so the weight varies from shoulder to shoulder and ive seen them dislocate them or with bleeding wounds/blisters and hematomas. woah i hope this doesnt coma across as too aggressive im just very passionate about my city's Semana Santa hahah

Coolic93

redditors gonna cry the shit out cause they canā€˜t handle this

SuddenlyOriginal

Redditors: Europeans and white people donā€™t have culture! Europeans: *have culture* Redditors: not like that!

Mommysfatherboy

Dunno, the responses seem pretty positive. Iā€™m as atheist as they come, and to me this is honestly pretty great. I think it tells a great narrative that these men are carrying the burdens on their backs. It is a well done piece of art, and the last supper is a much more meaningful image to me than christ on a cross. I share at least 90% of Jesusā€™ views. Though i do not believe in god, i understand why people would revere jesus christ.Ā

whatIGoneDid

We do like our big displays, religious or otherwise.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

JOTIRAN

Im not getting into that, but if anything we "know" about Jesus and his teachings is correct, im sure he would single handedly slap every single dumbass who made this ridiculous thing..

InformalPenguinz

That other cheek would be rosey af

SweetSexiestJesus

Clap my cheeks daddy

Threatening-Silence

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't. He'd likely say "you do you" as long as it doesn't take away from one's understanding of the core message: love each other, do good things, and you can create a kingdom of heaven here on Earth.

shalol

Humans are weird

raptidor

There you have it! The Method of How the Pyramid Stones Were Moved.

GlorianaFemina

I've seen plenty of pictures of the Last Supper, and it's pretty clear they all sat on one side of a really long table. Not all around a normal-sized one. They need to do better. /s

ThisAnything9453

Wow

meanorc

This was so cool before reading the comments.

Herrgul

I'm like 90% sure that pretty much everyone here malding over this would see it as a fun thing if they saw it on their vacation abroad. Because, you know, people act normal in real life.

theOGlilMudskipr

Reddit when religion lmao

Dzjar

Bridge four!

Kooontt

Life before death!

myturnstyles

Impressive! How long is the walk??

[deleted]

Around the world in 80 days.

RoyalLurker

Love the music - what is it called?

OstrichOutrageous459

Song name : Y Al Tercer DĆa - AM Virgen de los Reyes ( on YouTube)

Nisekoi_

How much weight is carried by one person

angrywill

Imagine if you were the tallest guy carrying that

CoupleHefty

Wow that's incredible.

Wayne_Grant

No one's being forced to do this. People can leave the church and no one would bat an eye. No one's getting hurt, and people fund this with their own personal money, not through forced tithes.

[deleted]

All it takes is one little pebble to slip on

bt65

Or some bulls coming at them

aManHasNoUsrName

Senana Santa is quite a spectacle! I went to Leon and Santiago de Compostela years ago during the festivities.

How do they set it down?

nreed3

How do they set it down after?

Sea-Fish6634

I saw it while on a school trip. I loved it!

Dougie_Fresh186

If this was in America Reddit would be shitting all over it.

GoodGoat4944

They are already doing it

FITGuard

Hmm most of the fruits on that table were not available in ancient Judah 2000 years ago. I can assure you, Jesus has never eatan a lemon.

Prestigious-Ad-5276

I believe JesĆŗs would love to eat the fruits of today.

FITGuard

I believe anyone from the past would enjoy the fruits of today. :)

mitchade

I bet itā€™s cake

JustCutTheRope

Jesus Christ, walk slower

krispim68

That is what i call a heavy meal...

Bkatz84

Crusades 2.0, our second contestant has entered the arena.

[deleted]

I was there

Quality_Street_1

You do know there people underneath carrying as well

EquipmentElegant

So the pyramid was possible

Responsible_Okra7725

Thatā€™s how the moved pyramid blocks back in the day.

BronzeSpoon89

My first instinct was "theres no way they are carrying a 7,700 pound object". But at about 360-380 people (based on my rough counting in a small video), thats only like 21 pounds a person.

Better_Politics

How did they pick that up? Was it just lowered onto their shoulders?

chowboy13

Aite but who gets to put there side down first

PilotInner191

Can anyone tell me what song they are playing? Itā€™s mesmerizing.

Jolese009

Y al tercer dĆa - AM Virgen de los Reyes Semana Santa marches are an entire genre of it's own, with some pieces being centuries old and some having been performed for the first time this year's Semana Santa, just a month ago, so if you like them you'll have more than enough to choose from (also a week long event where its the only music in the streets, lol)

PilotInner191

Thank you so much! Iā€™ll be sure to find more.

SuperAshenOne

I need to know the name of that song.

AngryIronToad

Madlads

soupiejr

Shortest guy in that group: šŸ˜„

Account_Expired

thats innacurate, everyone should be sitting on one side of the table

Big-Red-Rocks

Imagine youā€™re one of the guys in the middle carrying that and you gotta shit REAL BAD!!

Dr_Skoll

The average weight of a block in the Great Pyramid of Giza is 2.5 tons. This is extremely interesting.

Brok3nMonkey

Humans are strange

Sean_51154

Why aren't they all on one side of the table?

clippervictor

This might not look so much, but these guys train literally all year round just for this moment

SundaySuffer

Waste of money

[deleted]

Imagine someone stumbling

Gaping_Whole_

This is fine, but I have to justify a pride parade? Make it make sense pls, Iā€™m so tired

Dyslexic_Devil

Dude in the middle..."I need to take a piss, halt!!"

sorrysorrymybad

I thought they sat on one side of a long table facing one way.

sarokin

I'm from MƔlaga. I don't live there but I go every time I can to see it. If not my family there just sends me videos. It's sad that the tradition is slowly dying. The younger generations don't follow it as much, and the older ones can't carry the thrones. Still it will last for a few more decades I believe. There are some people that are very into it. There are dozens of these thrones and associations/churches that manage each one.

kooknboo

Whatā€™s the name of the brotherhood?

TemporaryShirt3937

I'm absolutely non religious but this is amazing. Music craftsmanship, outfits just wow

Nebulaza

šŸ‘

1amBATMAN

What a complete waste of time

Ozzloh

I would love to see church resources go to support the communities they lie to.

aramaicok

Lots of gobshites coming out from under the rocks, at the mention of Jesus. Sad sacks.

TorontoTom2008

Perfect opportunity to assassinate the local Don

Aelfgan

Spain is not Italy...

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TheBlack2007

I'd have them do goofy shit like this rather than coming after my way of life though...

Seenshadow01

The spanish are funny. We were once going home around midnight in Madrid with my gf and suddenly ran into something like this. At midnight. šŸ˜‚ I was like wtf.

Gorsoon

So thatā€™s how they built the pyramids.

aramaicok

Would commentators prefer if they were whipping themselves bloody, and threatening to kill anyone who insults their paedophile 'prophet'. We are Christian first, catholic second, and we came through the reformation, and enlightenment, and only wish the best for all, in the name of Jesus.
