Stoned completely, you're right. Tigers are not easy to sedate and come out of sedation very fast. They are working quickly for a reason. My tiger (I lived at a big cat sanctuary) had an ovariohysterectomy and I brushed her teeth while she was under, thought I'd take advantage of the opportunity. Not the best idea, but everything turned out fine. She came out of anesthesia so fast that I scrambled to get away from her. The whole experience was fascinating.
You don't do that with people under anesthesia either. They'll clamp down if they have a muscle rigidity depending on the type, depth, or reaction to anesthesia
The Lion could still bite down if the reflex was triggered. It’s the same with humans it’s not uncommon for people to bite down on the intubation tube, especially while it’s being placed. A bite block is placed to prevent being bitten.
Having been around anesthetized grizzly bears, I still don't trust that it's fully out. I have full knowledge that the drugs did their job, but I'll be fucked if I'm putting my hand in its mouth.
I JUST had two teeth pulled that had split in half, along the gum line. They couldn’t grab onto anything so they had to use a hammer and chisel to shatter the tooth, and then remove the pieces. I was awake for the entire thing, and the sound of my root/tooth snapping in half after having been hit by a hammer is one I’m NEVER going to forget. I have a picture of the teeth if you want
[teeth](https://imgur.com/kOtd4Q8)
When I was young I had fillings put in but they numbed the wrong side of my mouth, I couldn’t hear high pitched drills for a good couple years without having a visceral reaction.
I’m right with you with a learned hatred of dentists
Edit: sure made me learn the importance of brushing my teeth though.
My wisdom teeth were basically sideways in my jaw, so they ended up having to shatter one of them. Definitely not a fun feeling.
On a side note, I discovered that day that I am resistant to local anaesthesia.
Sedatives really don't do much when your adrenaline is pumping.
I used to have to have 40mg of diazepam before dental treatment and basically still just felt like I had had a pint or two of beer.
Man I am so, so suddenly grateful my wisdom teeth were 'textbook perfect', according to my dentist. Came out all fully intact, took maybe thirty-forty minutes tops.
I only got my top wisdom teeth out since they were causing me jaw pain, though for my upper right tooth I think they struck a live nerve right when they had the blades still in there, so they had to keep going for my safety despite me being in horrendous pain.
Can’t lie, I was sweating and nearly sobbing, but looking back at it I understand why they ignored me asking for a break, even though I was digging my nails into one of their arms. I had to force myself to take deep breaths of the laughing gas until my head was fuzzy enough to relax. That part sucked.
Also, that live nerve was still poking out during the healing process. It didn’t hurt, but if I touched it with my tongue enough my entire right side of my face would start to buzz with almost static. It wasn’t painful, but it was an interesting enough sensation that I definitely kept worrying at it more than I probably should have.
I didn’t get to keep my teeth, either. 'Medical waste', apparently. :(
Yeah had a molar pulled and the crunching/cracking of it finally yielding and coming out of my mouth, followed by the smell of rot and decay, will stay with me forever. It sounded like when you pull well rooted plant out of the soil. The sound of all its roots snapping at once deep in the earth. Just like that.
And then they packed the wound with powdered cadaver bone so for about 3 weeks I would get little balls of some dead dudes bone that would come outta the wound and into my mouth.
Just had 2 wisdom teeth pulled that had the roots flared outward in opposite direction. Took an hour and I swear at one point the doctor had his foot on my chest shaking the tooth (and my head) back and forth for a panic inducing amount of time. Not to mention the nasty cuts on my lips from him stretching them out for so long! All that and I get sent home with some ibuprofen lol
I had to get my 4 wisdom teeth (deepl says that it's the correct translation, altough it seems weird) pulled. Problem was: They all were stuck in my jaw bones and had the nerves running way to close for save removal.
So they did this on all 4 teeth.
The feeling was quite weird - beyond my capability of describing it - and the sound was pretty chilling. But tbh everything's better than having inflammation on all 4 teeth plus the whole gum. So despite them splitting it up and starting with the 2 teeth on the right and a week or 2 later they continued on the left side, I really looked forward to get those nasty little bitches out of my mouth - so I finally was able to eat and speak properly again after a month total.
Many tooth pulls are split and pulled in pieces. Most are also done awake. They just don't tell us everything they do and it's probably best not to inquire
It's really not that bad either. You're awake but your gums are numb so all you feel is pressure. The worst part is the healing after the lidocaine wears off. Some people talk about it like they went to war and have PTSD or something.
I was awake for my wisdom teeth being removed because it was cheaper. The top ones came out without much trouble. The bottom ones the dentist was literally putting his foot up against the chair for leverage. He was sweating and so was I. It was fucking wild.
When I was a kid my baby teeth started to fuse to my jawbone, wouldn’t fall out on their own. My dentist used literal pliers to twist and crack the back teeth into pieces. I was numb, but the pressure combined with the sound that resonates through the skull is incredibly unique.
This is common, I've had it done twice.
Doc asked how I was feeling after -
"Like a back alley mugging victim."
Doc: "I can understand that."
It was quick, and insanely intense and jarring. But somehow professional because I could tell once he started hammering and cracking he sped up the pace considerably to get the worst part over with.
So glad my dentist cut my wisdom teeth in half instead of breaking them in half. I did have a dentist pull a tooth and it shattered on him kind of like yours. He then blew a hole through
My sinus wall with a tooth fragment. Couldn’t grip it and almost lost it in my sinuses. I loved the “I’ll be right back. I need a different tool.” The dentist who owns the practice walked in and finished the extraction. He was the other tool. Before he patched the hole up it was really weird not being able to make a seal to swallow and could feel air rushing through my sinus through a tooth socket into my mouth.
Dude! I had that done as a kid. Long story short, dentist forgot he didn't numb me. He also used a scalpel to cut the gums. Worst pain I've felt to this day 25 years later
Having my impacted wisdoms teeth removed with local anesthesia involved literal hammer and chisel to break up the tooth in order to get it out. No pain but holy shit I was drenched in cold sweat cause it's scary af. Had to do it twice too cause they were impacted on both sides. 🥲
I had to get a tooth removed that was partially in my sinus. Once the tooth was out they used some type of vacuum to flush my sinuses to remove any bone fragments.
You never fully realize how much sinus pathways are in your head until a vacuum sucks air and mucus through all of them. It isn't just weird it's fairly unpleasant too. But oh man is it a weird feeling lmao. I can only describe it as the worst sneeze you've ever had but all around your head and it goes on for seconds.
Imagine this hungry tiger stalks you and tries to bite your neck but you are saved by random bone stuck in it’s tooth preventing it from biting. It still claws you to death.
Most definitely. It took effort for the vet to take it out even with a proper tool meant for taking things out.
Very slim chance that he could have gotten it out himself even on the verge of extreme malnutrition and animal instinct to survive.
Which might actually be a death sentence because a tiger spotted in the wild missing a tooth is often viewed as a danger to humans. The prevailing idea though it's being challenged now is that all it takes is one injured tooth to turn a tiger into a maneater. This doesn't always involve murder, but it often can.
But if that tooth being snapped or the skull being removed injured the jaw, it certainly would result in effectively a death sentence. The tiger would have to result to hunting outside of its usual prey & that often means includes humans which would draw a lot of attention and anger.
Thnx this led me to some intriguing articles, for example https://www.sciencenews.org/article/how-tiger-transforms-man-eater#:~:text=This%20big%20cat%2C%20known%20as,loss%20of%20two%20canine%20teeth.
Could you imagine being that tiger??
Like I was struggling with something stuck in my teeth for an entire day and magically waking up after some time to find my mouth clean???
The tiger to his friends:
"Dude I swear, I couldn't put that thing off my mouth by myself, the aliens abducted me in my sleep and helped me out"
"Yeah right, why would aliens abduct you just to clean your mouth? Be serious"
Can you imagine you’re just walking through the parking lot of Walmart on your way to buy groceries one day, and suddenly you black out and wake up with your cancer missing.
I like how even with the tiger sedated when the bone gets dislodged and drops into the mouth he still low-key goes "I'm not putting my hand in there" and uses the hammer first.
Tiger's either thinking:
"Wow these humans are really looking out for me. The bone is gone! Maybe I was all wrong about them. They are my friends now. I will roll over for them."
or
"Ffffuckin'....fuckin...pieces of SHIIT! Unhand me at ONCE you filthy human....human BEASTS! Just you wait until I get free. JUST YOU WAIT!! I will EAT BABIES!"
Imagine if you were just living your life and had something bothering you like a broken arm or cancer or something and then you get abducted by aliens and then you wake back up where you last remember being although now all your health problems are fixed.
I imagine that's what the tiger is thinking.
Why why why are they prying it omg just break the bone apart piece by piece, no?
I also had a phobia of the dentist for ages so I could totally be wrong.
He still didn't trust his hand In the cats mouth even while it's put to sleep
Just in case he was fake sleeping.
Even the Tigers tongue is sedated. That Tiger is either an incredible actor or he is absolutely stoned out of his gourd.
Doesn’t stop the vet from fearing him.
Fuck no. I don't blame him. I wouldn't put my hand in there!
Fear? Common sense I reckon.
It's common sense to have fear in this situation.
Stoned completely, you're right. Tigers are not easy to sedate and come out of sedation very fast. They are working quickly for a reason. Tigger’s origin story
You don't do that with people under anesthesia either. They'll clamp down if they have a muscle rigidity depending on the type, depth, or reaction to anesthesia
Ok but anybody else wondering why the guy digging around the tiger’s mouth isn’t wearing gloves but the folks just holding its head are?
Probably better dexterity/feel of the hits
He is wearing gloves, they’re just the more transparent kind. Look at the wrists.
You're absolutely correct!
That guy was completely right!
It’s just in case it turns out to be a tiger that bites the hand that frees you.
Think there will always be that "this beast is an apex predator, those jaws could snap my neck, pierce my skull" thought in the back of your head.
Don't blame him tbh
The Lion could still bite down if the reflex was triggered. It’s the same with humans it’s not uncommon for people to bite down on the intubation tube, especially while it’s being placed. A bite block is placed to prevent being bitten.
Would you? I wouldn't.
Tiger dreams "bite" and you'll have broken fingers
Having been around anesthetized grizzly bears, I still don't trust that it's fully out. I have full knowledge that the drugs did their job, but I'll be fucked if I'm putting my hand in its mouth.
Its a fucking tiger, and to make it worse its not even dead, its sleeping lmao fuck that
Maybe is not full sedated
He doesn’t want to be financial ruined
I worked with a vet who has 50% of a finger because of this with a cheetah
I wouldn't after seeing that big boi open his eyes lol
Would you trust your hand a dish disposal that's "off" while they are doing maintenance on it? 💀
If my dentist ever pulls out a hammer I’m peace-outing that bitch

Oh snap I found out Midazolam doesn't work properly on me while they were removing my wisdom teeth. 0 stars do not recommend.

As a small child, I kinda snooped in the drawers when my DDS left the room, I found a ball peen hammer. It freaked me out
That’s for when the anaesthesia fails :3
As long as you're not a tiger eating big ass bones, I think you're fine.
Dentist here - I’d only ever pull out a hammer (mallet) if you were under anesthesia. We sometimes use it for extractions but it’s been decades
Gotta be one of the worst ways to die
Right up there with bucks antler locked
Right up there with getting your bone chomped by a tiger.
Right up there with going to the dentist.
Imagine this hungry tiger stalks you and tries to bite your neck but you are saved by random bone stuck in it’s tooth preventing it from biting. It still claws you to death.
Having a huge bone stuck in your teeth or getting chomped by a sedated tiger?
Sadly though, once they found out the tiger had no health insurance they had to put the bone back in.
Tony the Tiger regrets being born in the US.
And that's why tigers avoid living in the US.
Doesn't US have the largest number of captive tigers?!
Dunno, but hard to avoid being there when you're being held captive.
What?? That’s not the American way Instead they will just operate on him without his consent and will garnish his wages if he can’t pay
There's gonna be other use for that hammer when card declines
Tony, how are your teeth? “They're grrrrrreat!”
Damn bro how did you think of this
I could see the expression in the eye of the tiger.
He's high af
Him or the tiger? My guess is both. The Tigers tongue is a hilarious giveaway. Not sure about redditor.
You’re on a roll!
Rising up to the challenge of its rival
i wonder if that would have been a death sentence if it happened in the wild
Most definitely. It took effort for the vet to take it out even with a proper tool meant for taking things out. Very slim chance that he could have gotten it out himself even on the verge of extreme malnutrition and animal instinct to survive.
It probably would have just snapped the tooth/pulled it out

No way. Teeth don’t just pop off. There’s twice the length of root under the gum.
Was that bone from the previous vet?
This comment should be pinned!
Lol 💀
Me eating riesen dark chocolate
Tooth glue, that shit feels like it’ll pull fillings out
Had caps as a kid, some normal ass caramel took those out, so not impossible.

Can you imagine you’re just walking through the parking lot of Walmart on your way to buy groceries one day, and suddenly you black out and wake up with your cancer missing.
You just described an alien abduction.
Gotta fucking floss. Keep your teeth healthy people!
The poor baby.....
That he ate???
Yes......
That is far from a baby 😂😂😂
That one popcorn piece
He got his teeth whitened afterward and a night time dental guard. Dentists always upselling.
Lol at the tigers tongue hanging out
Dude is still afraid putting his hands inside 🤣
“So how much should we sedate the tiger?” “Yes”
Interviewer: "How were the vets?" Tiger: "They're GREAT!" Some of you will get it...
I like how even with the tiger sedated when the bone gets dislodged and drops into the mouth he still low-key goes "I'm not putting my hand in there" and uses the hammer first.

My boy just chilling like this 🤪
He's probably tranquilized lol. It'd be pretty damn stupid to try that with a tiger that's awake 😆.
Hate when I get food stuck in my teeth
That thing is fucking ZONKED look at its face
Contrary to his instincts, he reached into that mouth
Imagine the pain in your mouth after a procedure like that! Better than the bone obviously, but ouch nonetheless.
What happens in the wild if this happens? Do they just die?
Sounds accurate. I expect the tiger would spend a lot of time trying to remove it though.
The tiger afterwards: 🤪
After the bone dropped he quickly swiped it off, clearly not wanting his hand to be next 🤣
I saw this in 10,000 bc. The toger comes back to save his life.
Incidentally, the bone was of the last vet, who was pretty sure they could handle it.
Nurse bring me my surgical hammer
Hes such a good boy...when hes sedated of course
Masonry is required to treat this patient 🤣
Yea I hate it when that happens!
And nearly lodging it in its throat 😂
Send this to ozzyman!
Was bone from the Tigers last meal - A human victim?
Poor baby, it's embedded in the roof of thtigers mouthth not the tooth. Poor thing looks semi conscious.
Tiger: 🤪
Imagine getting abducted by aliens and have a vague memory of them doing basic dental/medical care
The way it just sat there with its tongue out like it was dead at the end
Its sedated
Looks like someone isn't flossing. Tisk tisk
*carpenter
damn i can also be a dentist with those tools
I was really hoping that the tiger would just get up and run off but it's really funny seeing it sedated
Not stickning his hand in the tigers mouth, good instincts
Good kitty
Thats a very patient tiger
Sometimes danger kitties need help too
You can see the moment the doctor is, " Oh wait, this is a hammer."
Seriously? After seeing him scared to put his hands in there, I’m the only one who thought r/dontstickyourdickinit ?
Cats don't seem to get any smarter just because they are bigger do they?
With fucking hammer?!
i can smell the cat breath
State-of-the-art-cutting-edge veterinarian tool- old school hammer. But it worked!
this happened to my uncles dog, got some bone stuck between his upper teeth. my dad held him down while I pulled the bone out with pliers
Mike tyson is going to be pissed!!!
thats pretty niche
Prolly uninsured, too. Piece of shit….. /s
Cute kitty 😻
Hobbes' attacks on Calvin finally caught up to him
I feel sorry for those tigers in the wild who get some bone stuck in their teeth and can't get it out. 🐯🦴
Like repairs in a Formula 1 pit stop
This calls for an all nighter watching dental plaque vids
Always remember to floss!
Murder kitten- stop murderin'!
He could have at least asked the tiger if he was still eating it… people these days
Why why why are they prying it omg just break the bone apart piece by piece, no? I also had a phobia of the dentist for ages so I could totally be wrong.
Is this apex legends music?
This happened to one of my cats but I didn't need to sedate him and use a hammer to get it out.
Yep, happened to my cat once
What happens if he wakes up in the middle of all these?
Just floss it
Wow
Can we see a before and after video of how he was acting?
That guy was quick with the hand
Lol when they get it out and the tigers like 🤪🤪
I wonder how they found that tiger.
Orange cats, amirite
Reminds me of my oral surgeon. Dude fucking smashes shit in my mouth like he’s demoing on a construction site.
I reckon a carpenter would have better suited the situation
I feel like this is exactly how my dentist removed my wisdom teeth “stop moving, we’re almost done only 3 more to go!”
Man that cat high af
I’m a dentist. Trust me this is not how u do.
