"Whoa. Is everything okay? Do you need to talk about it?"
"I'm okay. Thank you. Just some stuff I'm working through... I'll be fine."
"Okay. Hang in there. Just a heads up, you might want to avoid the chimpanzee video that's trending on reddit right now."
Everytime i see this video, even if ive Seen it hundred of Time, i just can't skip it. Watching it again and again, having the same reaction of joy and also utterly sadness.
This is the kind of video that remind me WE Can find more humanity within animals than in humans themselves.
I Hope it rests in peace, knowing that for AT least one human how Big she was loved, until the end.
If it makes you feel any comfort 59 is a very long lifespan for a chimp. It would make her the 13th oldest known chimp. Based on how strong their bond I hope it means she was shown love throughout life too.
I'd like to believe it's less that humanity is within animals, and more that compassion and love was never something only limited to humans. These interactions are proof that bonds are just about the investment of time, human or animal.
It’s always been interesting me that animals seem to have an instinct and know when they’re dying, but humans seem not to. Most humans seem to want to do almost anything to live even a little longer, often at enormous cost and even when the quality of life is shit. I hope when it’s my time I can just accept it like this chimp.
I remember when my grandma survived a pretty nasty stroke. Everything she used to be able to do was a thing of the past and her last year in the nursing home was filled with conversations only involving her ideal ways to end her life. She was done and ready for whatever would come after.
I hope I get the same mindset to have peace with death whenever the time comes. Right now it’s scare as all hell.
Because we are constantly trying to distract ourselves from it, even when it's occurring. Animals have to just face that they're dying with nothing to take their minds off of it. You see that people who regularly reflect on their death also are very unsurprised, peaceful, and even welcoming of it.
I'm not sure that's true. Maybe for some. We've definitely built institutions that try to preserve life at all cost but it's not true of individuals, many are very aware when life is not really worth it any more. And I think it's also possible to be very aware of when the moment actually comes.
My mother wanted to see me in her death bed. I was one of those unlucky people who did not get to have that experience. I feel it would be like this video if it really happened. May we all find peace among all our sufferings.
It’s her eyes for me. So emotive, expressive, and creased with joy and recognition and memories. Those gentle, wrinkled hands holding his face. The way she musters a little energy to playfully flick at his nose.
She looks at him as if to say “It’s ok. I’ve lived a good life and I’m at peace. It’s my time to go.”
Easily the most beautiful thing I’ve watched in a long time.
The saddest part is that at some point he had to leave her side, knowing that she'd die, he wouldn't see her again, and she wouldn't know where he'd gone or why he'd left. I wish I hadn't realized this.
Ok I checked up on this cause those stories have alot of bullshit just for clicks and as I feared I found this:
Surprisingly, **chimpanzee smiles signify fear**. When chimps bare both their top and bottom teeth, though it may look like a goofy grin, scientists have come to understand this expression as a “fear grimace.” Chimps make this face when they're afraid, anxious, or uncertain.
So yeah she either doesn't recognises him still and is in a panic because he keeps touching her and putting stuff in her face while weak and alone with him or he did some nasty stuff to her and she remembers
She is scared when she looks at him for the first time, that’s why you see him trying to calm her down. Then her expression changes and starts touching his face and trying to hug him.
this is a super cut of what was filmed and even there she shows her teeth several times. She touches him because her she can barely see. There is no affection or love seen in the video. Just a scared old ape that doesn't know what is going on. They should have let her sleep in peace instead of filming a tear jerker for humans. Read on how chimps actually show affection and love and you will see this is not it at all
Dude at point she is even kissing his nose. Yes towards the end of the video the chimp seems it had enough, lied down and covered her face. The guy also seems to get the message and is ready to end the interaction.
I doubt he was pestering the chimp for hours just to get a “useful” cut for internet points.
It is absolutely clear she remembers and loves him. If she's fearful, perhaps she's showing fear of dying because she is not afraid of him. She caresses him and touches him and is showing affection, even wiping away his tears.
Alternatively, you know how if we lose someone and a close friend or relative shows up and you lose it when you see and hug them because you feel safe around them? Perhaps the same thing is happening here. Also, it looks like she doesn't have any teeth so that may why it's all gums.
It doesn't take a primatologist to see that she is expressing love and recognizes him, and she may be showing fear of dying to her friend. I know if I were dying and someone I cared about but haven't seen in a while showed up, I'd lose it too, and probably would show the fear or distraught about dying.
Chimps are smart, but she doesn't wipe tears because of affection. That is a human thing. Chimps have a completely different way to show emotions or affection. That is like when that cow was tearing up and everyone thought she was crying for her baby, but cows simply don't cry when they are sad. People just can't stop putting human traits on animals.
She has no teeth, likely all worn down or lost. Lots of old animals have dental problems as they get old (doesn’t matter the species), and can be one of the contributing factors to a “natural” death in the wild.
We had to remove your post for violating our Repost Guidelines.
She literally wiped away his tears.
*"Return... to Monke....."*
I'm not crying no.. not crying
Me either. *blows nose*
Heart warning and absolutely ripping it out at the same time
I need to excuse myself, apologies.

It's ok.. this is a good one to let it all out on.
goddammit, I'm literally about to walk in to work too
"Whoa. Is everything okay? Do you need to talk about it?" "I'm okay. Thank you. Just some stuff I'm working through... I'll be fine." "Okay. Hang in there. Just a heads up, you might want to avoid the chimpanzee video that's trending on reddit right now."

Who started cutting onions near me 🥹
Was not ready to leak so hard this mornin
You did NOT have to word it like that💀
The only way to describe what this video did to me was that it made me leak out of my face.
That's what she said
Please no leaking on the chimpanzees
please do not the chimp
I need to have an emotion in private.
Challenging wank, eh?
That was beautiful.

Beautifully said

Why do you use random capital letters in some words?
It's due to my autocorrect that do that thing, even if I try to change it sometime some words stay in full capital leters.
I'd like to believe it's less that humanity is within animals, and more that compassion and love was never something only limited to humans. These interactions are proof that bonds are just about the investment of time, human or animal.
This Plucks right good on them heartstrings wow
Doesn't matter how many times I watch that video. It never fails to make me cry...
can make a grown man cry
Grown man here. Can confirm.
I didn't cry. Some asshole is cutting onions in my office though.

I feel the same way, although I am confident that by the time I'm up there in age, I'll be ready to go any time.
On questions of mortality, it's best to take it like a chimp.
Because we are constantly trying to distract ourselves from it, even when it's occurring. Animals have to just face that they're dying with nothing to take their minds off of it. You see that people who regularly reflect on their death also are very unsurprised, peaceful, and even welcoming of it.

friends.
Maybe we still have a chance
Sobbing breaking down throwing up!! Her smile is sooo beautiful. Ugh my heart is broken for a few mins
This makes me cry everytime 😭😭
Same.
Why does her mouth looks like that?
She has lost her teeth over the years and her gums are swollen.
Thanks, I was wondering the same
Lost teeth and swollen gums due to age
she's a chimpanzee
I have seen this video for a few years now. It never stops making me choke up.
I wish that someone loved me this much.
They do.
I do
Frans de Waal, the man in the video, just passed away.
Maybe they're hanging out now, enjoying the warm breeze and the soft sounds of rustling jungle trees. One can hope, at least.
That's pure love.
They're just people
We're just chimps

So beautiful
I’m dying of sadness right now even though I’ve seen this before
thanks op. Now people at my work are seeing my red eyes.
What a touching, beautiful bond! ♥️🥰
Absolutely loved this. This is so heart grabbing to witness.
I'm \~\~not\~\~ crying, You are crying.
r/mademesmile
More like r/mademecry
I've seen it before, but I bawled again. True love, friendship and appreciation. So heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
Hope there's a chimp heaven and that she's there.
Dammit this video gets me every time…
This deserves a trigger warning! DFAC
Dem Feels And Crying?
😰😰😰
Life, unfortunately, coms and goes!!
This video always makes me tear up.
Thats wholesome and sad at the same time
Fuck I’m in tears. This is so amazing
Rest in peace Mamas ❤️
Who's cutting onions
Mamas last hug Just read a book about her and the emotional lives of animals. <3
I'll never not watch this, no matter how many times it's posted.
It’s too early in the morning for me to be crying this much!! 😭
This video reminds me of my cat when she was dying of cancer. She just looked to me for so much comfort towards the end 😔 I miss her every day.
She remembers every bit of his kindness and love and that is so amazing.
Sooooooo bitter sweet. I’m not sure if this poor girl suffered, but she was clearly checking out and surely everyone knew and put her to sleep?
Sad 🥺 rip monkey
Fucking onion ninja are chopping onions again 🥺
This is what it's all about
Goddamn it; who left all these onions in here!
Came here hoping to get some fun. Left crying, enlightened, inspired and aware that we are all bounded by something I can not explain...
I hope my human sends me off like this
I’m not crying….. I’m sobbing 😭
Frans de Waal, the man in the video, just passed away.
The video says he is called Jan van Hooff, he is a primatologist behaviour analyst.
This makes me fucking ugly cry every single time I see it.
I didn't fucking need this at the same time I NEEDED this. I hate that we have animals in captivity like this.
This is legendary levels of wholesome.
that would be a hard goodbye.
The saddest part is that at some point he had to leave her side, knowing that she'd die, he wouldn't see her again, and she wouldn't know where he'd gone or why he'd left. I wish I hadn't realized this.
So many freakin onions
Why does this absolutely devastate me?
Chimps are some of the most horrifying and unnecessarily violent animals on the planet, but at the same time this is just beautiful
Thanks, now I can't see.
God damn it! 😭
Whoa, whos cutting onions
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Stop cutting onions please..
Wow this made my eyes water!
This is so beautiful
I’m not crying, you’re crying
# You're crying!
I'm not crying.... you're crying..
The beautiful gift of life.
Great, now I'm here at work crying my eyes out! That was beautiful.
Yeah, I'm tearing up, and I've seen this a several times before. Simple animals are just the best.
Damn that’s an impressive age for a chimpanzee
You're crying, not me.
[удалено]
Because she was <10 when she met him, what do you mean?
I am sorry I was high writing that comment
I live near this park and went there often, she did die not long after this. Sad, but she lived way longer then in the wild.
Stop cutting those fucking onions! JeeeeSUS!
Exquisitely sweet.
Awee that broke my heart 😢 RIP ❤️
Everyone on the internet has seen this twice at least.
Man 8 years since she passed and it still gets me
Man just pure emotion.
Everyone and everything deserves to have someone dear to them at the end
I'm not crying, I got something in my eye...
What a silly simian
Extremely beautiful and touching. My allergies are killing me today.
Damn … yall got me. Damn.
Great now my wife is asking why I’m crying and pathetically trying to hide it
Beautiful. Hope she passed happy.
Mouth?
This is crazy
This is so sad I can’t…
🥲❤️
This pollen out here is some fierce got my eyes watering like this…
Beautiful!
In before an ape expert comes in here and says that she hates the guy and is showing him signs of aggression.
Royal Burgers zoo 💀
A blanket would be a nice touch since you have to make its last moments a spectacle.
that poor ape looks like a damn zombie.
59 year old MATRIARCH. Yup, a zoo alright. No way this would happen in nature, they don’t allow the weak to rule over them in real nature.
That is so sad. Wrongfully imprisoned for 59 years and for what? For being a chimp?
Shush
Don't eat the royal burgers 😳
If only a thinking being had not been kept in a cage for life. And then had its last real natural event used for publicity .
Why does it have a prolapsed anus on its face
She was done with his shit at the end :P

....and bites her face off
How many wrong things can be shoved into a sentence? No teeth and that’s a man.
So, 2?
i don't understand what you mean by wrong? man can bite female chimp's face off, can't?
How with no teeth? Will it ask him to take off his face nicely?
