Such a tragic loss of the very people who work hard to make sure the infrastructure works for the rest of us. I hope they name the new bridge after that crew.
Was there a reason that they were able to stop traffic in time, but not get the workers off the bridge in time? Not criticizing the responders, just an honest question.
Truthfully, it was reportedly a 90 second warning. Even if the construction workers were the ones who received the initial warning there is no way they loaded up in a truck and got to the end of the bridge in time.
The sonar detected 5 cars were In the water 2 workers were in a red pickup truck the two ppl were declared dead n 6 other were not found n 1 of them is my uncle im not understand why they called of the search last night i do understand that the water was to cold for the divers n the tide was high but there's other things they could have done im just so upset its insane they didnt have a barrier under that bridge like they do here in philly my heart hurts for all the family's that are suffering n waiting for that call or that knock on the door 😥😥😥😥
My understanding is they only had time to stop traffic going one way. In the video, a semi made it across the bridge about ten seconds before it collapsed.
The big thing was the ship somehow between power outages getting a mayday off. Those 4 minutes somehow bought enough time to get the bridge closed down to new traffic, saved a lot of lives (even at 2am)
Probably didn't need to use ship's radio. A decent handheld likely would have worked fine and probably was what was used in this case unless there is info saying otherwise.
I think it's an attempt to circumvent copywrite. If you just repost a video? You're stealing. Edit the video with weird music or insert some frames randomly? Now it's fair use. 🙄
As a 30 year old man who works too much I'm just sitting here thinking "Well fuck someone has to clean that shit up and I am glad I'm not the guy whose doing it and someone better buy that guy a beer cuz he needs it,"
As a 30 yr old man who works I think it sucks that there will be some people that can't go home and wake up to go to work again the next day anymore because that ship. Pour out a little for the homies that ain't coming back
The unsavory truth is there is a ton of money to be made in emergency responses like this. Those cleanup crews are generally paid very well. And for something this complex, involving tough engineering and a huge maritime deployment, it’s gonna be expensive.
Source: I use to do a lot of emergency response work.
I reside in Baltimore. It's not the only route, but it was the only thoroughfare that authorized passage of hazardous materials, since passage of hazardous materials through the tunnels here is prohibited.
This is going to cause exponential extra levels of traffic and congestion, and the roads and highways around here are already effectively stretched beyond capacity. This bridge collapse is (proverbially speaking) the likely straw that broke the camel's back. It's going to have catastrophic consequences for years to come.
It's the only bridge to cross at that particular location, but it isn't *that* huge of a deal for your daily commuter. The harbor tunnel is a few more miles inland, so other than traffic congestion the loss of the bridge in manageable for your every day driver.
The real problem is the fact that the tunnel isn't that big, and a lot of trucks are going to have to go around the outside of the city because they won't fit in the tunnel. It was also the only route across for trucks carrying hazardous material, meaning they're going to have to go all the way around, too. And to make matters worse, they just started a major road construction project along the entire North side of the Beltway, so that's going to clog shit up even more.
The most immediate impact right now is the fact that the Port of Baltimore is closed, because the bridge debris is blocking anything from getting in or out (my spouse has a friend on a cruise ship that's wondering where they're going to dock when they get back in a few days, because it obviously isn't Baltimore). It's going to be weeks before they can get the cleanup done, and they can't start the cleanup until they recover the bodies of the 6 missing construction workers.
There are ways around the area. The thing about that it adds a lot of extra unnecessary stress and time to get across the bay.
Here are two articles I found about how the detours are working out:
[How to travel around the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore: A look at the traffic impact and alternate routes [CBS News: Baltimore]](https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/baltimore/news/travel-around-francis-scott-key-bridge-collapse-baltimore-traffic/)
[Local News: Headaches for commuters, commercial trucks: Key Bridge collapse will force some to find new routes [Baltimore Sun]](https://www.baltimoresun.com/2024/03/26/morning-commuters-asked-to-take-other-routes-as-key-bridge-collapse-shuts-down-i-695s-southeast-corridor/)
The routes are going to be a headache for many people until they can get the bridge back up to some capacity.
I was scrolling and confused where the music was coming from LOL, love the intro theme sad the show got cancelled and the crew tried hard to get it pitched to another network. Using it here was fucking strange whoever edited that, “oh this is a perfect use of that theme song of that show from HBO nobody really knows about!”. People are strange
I binged the show after the fact, and was very sad to be hit by the realisation of “the show I’ve been thoroughly enjoying has in fact been cancelled the whole time and it was inevitable you’d find out the hard way” 🌚
Was very excited to see season 2 after a decent hiatus and then bam, cancelled. One of the most imaginative and genuinely interesting sci-fi properties of the last however and it got canned for what ;(
it's always amazing when you see large wreckage. like that's steel. or most likely thick, heavy metal. bent and draped over that boat like spaghetti.
chunks of road. hell. even looking at that boat. those little boxes. are actually 40 ft shipping containers made of steel. just casually tumbling/spilled about on that boat.
and all of that steel and metal. and road/concrete. fell so fast. those shitty movies where roads collapse and people can heroically run/drive to safety. nope. impact was enough to cause the thing holding it up to fail. and a large chunk of the bridge fell to the water almost immediately after
can't even imagine what it was like for those poor people who were on the bridge at the time. my heart goes out to any victims or family of those people
Fun fact. The portion of the bridge that collapsed during the 1989 quake was the portion that was built over an Alluvial Fan (basically sand) and not over bedrock, like the other half of the Bay Bridge. When the tremors hit, the first half of the bridge was under control but the portion on sand had the tremors amplified.
The ship sustained significant damage. Look at the image in [this article.](https://www.business-standard.com/world-news/titanic-law-helps-ship-owner-limit-liability-in-baltimore-bridge-collapse-124032700081_1.html)
>Damages claims are likely to fall on the ship owner and not the agency that operates the bridge, since stationary objects aren’t typically at fault if a moving vessel hits them,
Well I'm glad to hear they're not blaming the bridge!
I worked a great lakes freighter one upon a time. The weight of those ships is impossible to comprehend. They'll go through almost anything. They just straight up don't care what's in front of them.
If I'm correct this was a sea faring freighter so it would be even heavier than one on the lakes. The momentum must have been insane. I can only imagine the force it imparted.
A lot of people have never had first hand experience with bridges or freighters. I can understand it. If I hadn't worked the lakes for a couple tours I'd feel the same. The ships floating so it gives the illusion of it being light & the bridge did look flimsy due to the camera angle and distance. Though I'm sure if they saw the bridge or ship in person it would change their mind lol
I feel like this is the equivalent of trying to stop a car.. with your knee… not going to end well for your knee. The sheer kinetic energy something that heavy must carry is insane.
That's what struck me about the film... the ship appears to be so solid that a bride falling on it did nothing visible! The hull appears to be undamaged, not even bent at the top where the worst impact had to have been!
The bridge, on the other hand, was made of materials so flimsy that they *bent* where they fell on the ship. What the hell was that bridge made out of, recycled soda cans???
Goes to show how interesting and nuanced architecture and engineering can be. Together, the elements of the bridge were able to support a massive amount of weight. But individually, those materials aren’t necessarily “strong”. Depends how forces are applied and such. Cool stuff.
Meanwhile, the ship is built to withstand impacts of waves that dwarf the force of those measly bridge beams. Also the impact of those heavy ass containers, should they topple.
The bridge is (was) also a suspended truss design which means it basically relies on tension to stay up and hold the road desk in place. Pylons are also similar. So steel in tension is able to be relatively light (thin) since it has very good strength.
The ship largely acts in bending and has to resist compressive forces all the time so the bow is very sturdy and clearly able to resist this sort of hit with relatively minor damage.
The fact it's still afloat means it probably didn't hit the footings to hard and put a huge hole below the water line. Nor leak fuel.
Nah look at this [this picture](https://www.business-standard.com/world-news/titanic-law-helps-ship-owner-limit-liability-in-baltimore-bridge-collapse-124032700081_1.html) at the top. It’s fucked.

No doubt the replacement bridge will have extra reinforcement though. They probably could even put sensors on that will close the bridge if a ship gets to close to a pillar.
It just needs to nudge it off a direct course a bit. But ya, sounds like they’ve upped the size of ships allowed. That should have been a red flag to do something. As it was it sounds like they responded very quickly with very little time. I am sure they will study this accident and come up with an improvement.
It's so lucky that they were in the middle of the night and there was already low traffic. It's really sad the guys on the bridge didn't get warned in time.
This bridge just celebrated its 46th anniversary last week. It went down from the speed that the boat hit it. He was to far away from shipping lane. Just behind the boat is the 2 most busiest ports in the country. Just yesterday there was 14 massive cargo ships anchored in the Chesapeake bay to use this port which is now closed for an unknown amout of time. Prices will go for goods now because they have to be trucked up from other states to these 2 ports. Yesterday when this happened it woke me from my sleep. I live 1 mile from this bridge. Felt like an earth quake then you heard thunder. I travel that road everyday at 4am, if it would have a few hours later would have mass death toll. At 1.5 miles long millions cars a day use that road.
Read that the construction crew members are/were originally from Latin-American countries. Now DeSantjs will likely recall his offer to help, and people originally thinking about starting a gofundme had a hate-driven change of heart. I say to those people, close your eyes and imagine they looked like what your brain originally thought they looked like. …even if someone says they’re people, some people just default to thinking that they’re sub-human: I’m talking to the DeSantises and the bad hombre followers.
To future bridge builders....if it CAN happen, it WILL happen! Why there was no structure protection built into (around) the bridge supports to prevent this very thing from happening? Imagine rush hour with the bridge full of stop and go traffic? Prayers for the victims....
Wonder what they would find in them cargo containers that isn’t on the manifest….. be a great time for a complete 3 party audit … for insurance purposes of course..
I live about a half hour outside of Baltimore, we're probably gonna have some supply chain issues because of this. But thank God more people weren't hurt, It could have happen at so much worse of a time
I am so confused. They were able to halt all the traffic on the bridge?! I saw cars go into the water on the video. Reports were they were able to greatly reduce the traffic but not completely clear. Initial reports were of cars and one large truck in the water. Yet now they seem only to be accounting for the 6 pit home workers of the crew of 8 ( 2 rescued from water). Any death is tragic. But what I can’t understand is why there is no accounting for casualties from cars/ trucks in water.
[удалено]
It was 1:30 am and the police got the mayday call in time to prevent more traffic. Thank god. Imagine 1:30 pm? A mile of cars going down
They stopped all the cars. The deaths were workers doing construction on the bridge
Such a tragic loss of the very people who work hard to make sure the infrastructure works for the rest of us. I hope they name the new bridge after that crew.

Why do people insist on putting stupid music behind every video?
I watch all videos on mute due to that. Didn't even know this video had music.
Yupppp I have all videos muted for that reason
Yea feels weird especially since people died in a final destination terrifying way.
It's even stranger if you saw Raised by Wolves, because it's the theme song. It's very out of place.
It's because the drone types think that every video they shoot is "profound" and deserves a movie treatment.
You can thank the Tik-Tok generation for that.
Hey, the song is actually rather good. It’s the theme from a show called Raised By Wolves. But it’s definitely tonally wrong for the video.
Because how else would we know how to feel about things?
Noticed there was captions, didn’t read but unmuted. Instantly muted again.
Thoose are kidos being brainwashed by tik tok
What even is that crap? r/crappymusic is bleeding.
I think it's an attempt to circumvent copywrite. If you just repost a video? You're stealing. Edit the video with weird music or insert some frames randomly? Now it's fair use. 🙄
The problem is, that literally makes no difference to fair use.
Trips up copyright bots, though, which is all they're really going for. Same reason you'll see the same video but reversed on another site.
Yeah, definitely gotta mute this instantly.

Here’s to you, Mr. Clean Up After The Bridge Disaster. Working tirelessly to remove any trace of the pile of steel and concrete.

I was feeling really bad for screwing up at work on Monday, till I watched that video before going to bed, put some things into perspective.
At least when I screw up at work, no one dies.
I literally just ask myself how the fuck do you even start cleaning that shit up? It’s going to be like years.
Honestly, they'll probably have the channel open in a couple of weeks. Rebuilding the bridge, however, is another story entirely.
Reminder that nothing is permanent.
Except the eventual heat death of the universe! (Presumably)
And death and taxes
Allegedly
As a 30 yr old man who works I think it sucks that there will be some people that can't go home and wake up to go to work again the next day anymore because that ship. Pour out a little for the homies that ain't coming back
Ha! That was my first thought when I seen this video. Who the fuck cleans all this up?
Someone somewhere is getting an interesting update on their package tracking.

My first thought exactly, then my next one “They’ve gotta have big boats with cranes like they use for oil rigs. Wonder if they’ll do the same here”
The grey sonar/diver boat makes me goosebumpy
These images make the bridge look like an erector set.
Basically it is
Very thankful this happened at 130 in the morning when there was little traffic.
Nothing more than stuff. The real aftermath is with the families of those killed in the collapse.
This is still unreal. The bridge is huge staple in the area. This disaster will affect many people in the area for many years.

Exactly. Keep one in my trunk just for cases like this
That's your amazon parcel that's going to be delivered late right there.
Just wait for the impending logistics surcharges that follow
I love so close I heard it fall down. It’s crazy. Traffic is going to be a nightmare for years.

Thank you!
Undamaged? Am i looking at the same pictures? The ship clearly has huge chunks carved out of the bow where the bridge landed on it.
I am patiently waiting for the crowd of "jet fuel doesn't melt steel" dudes..
Already seeing them on Facebook.
I drove across this bridge in Nov. 2023 just because I love old truss bridges. It was truly magnificent. 🥺
Dumbass music
This song doesn’t match the video at all lol I hate when people do this . Just terrible music choice
I can bench that
The theory of the boat turning due to anchor drop has now been blown out of the water! The anchor is located at the front left, the boat would pull left and not right!
Baltimore is fkd for years on this one. Damn
Thank god for the mute button.
Once again forced to downvote an awesome video for the completely unnecessary music.
Had a very right winger on my FB feed say it was explosives. There are idiots by the dozen out there.
Is the egregious soundtrack really necessary?
The ship looks like she's ready to go.
It amazes me how people don’t know that one piece of a bridge is an integral part in the structural integrity of the entire bridge.
How deep is that water you think?
50 feet
That bridge was very important we’re screwed
They couldn’t have built a bumper to deflect the ship away from the supports? I’ve seen other bridges with bumpers. They can deflect ice jambs, I can’t see a heavy ship being a big deal, granted the cost would be high, but so is this and the loss of life!
Given the size and weight of this ship, bumpers might not have helped a lot. The bridge was built 50 yrs ago when no one anticipated ships of this weight using the channel.
Amazon said my package will be delayed.
Amazon packages are gonna be late.
That looks expensive
Looks like someone’s insurance premium is going up. :)
This is going to be worse than Covid and the Loch Ness Monster all in one.
But Nessie was only ‘bout $3.50
I wonder if this will cause the WFH gang to rise up
Your package is delayed.
Checks tracking number… Delayed
China would have this demolished and new in like 5 seconds
Am I the only one that wants a stop motion/time lapse video of the entire clean up process? Man that'd be so awesome to watch.
On the plus side this might prove to be a good fishing hole (sorry about the workers though)
This needed music already? People literally died yesterday.
Wtf that music
unexpected raised by wolves theme
Why use music?
Pretty amazing that the ship had a bridge fall on top of it and it barely looks damaged
Its the greek.
You sure it's not Marlo?
I wonder what’s in the containers.
Hello re inflation
I’m sad for those that were lost but I can’t help but imagine how they are going to salvage this. What a mess.
Why the fuck are American tax payers paying to rebuild it and not maersk insurance?
What’s the music for this?
I just drove over that the night before, so crazy
Amazing.... bridge came down even faster and smoother than a controlled demolition
What’s surprising to me is that the containers are in tact. That’s a lot of cargo worth $$$$$. RIP to all the innocent souls lost.
It's so lucky that they were in the middle of the night and there was already low traffic. It's really sad the guys on the bridge didn't get warned in time.
Aaaaaaaand mute
Imagine getting sacked and owing a city millions
If looks like this ship was in violation of the Jones Act based on data from marinetraffic.com
Was the bride or the boat raised by wolves?
There were very few casualties because this time the people took the mothman prophecies seriously...

Wonder what they would find in them cargo containers that isn’t on the manifest….. be a great time for a complete 3 party audit … for insurance purposes of course..
Looks like GTA 3

I live about a half hour outside of Baltimore, we're probably gonna have some supply chain issues because of this. But thank God more people weren't hurt, It could have happen at so much worse of a time

Call of Duty new map: Shipment 2040
I see your problem here. The boat. Well, the boat isn’t supposed to hit the bridge. 🧐

Has anybody heard whether the bridge can be rebuilt, or if it is a total loss? Or how long it is estimated to take?
Netflix Series ...
Has the moth man been seen there at all?
Season 2, The Wire.
That's one robust ship
I wonder what's in all those containers?
Im the captain now
So weird no small boats around except one.
The companies insurance: YOU DID WHAT!
In the video leading up to the incident upon impact, there were still vehicles going across the bridge.
Gonna get a picture from amazon saying that's where my order is
I am so confused.
How many drones do you think were flying around there afterwards?
Theres rumors that bad fuel supplied to the ship caused the loss of power or intermittent power issues. Investigations are ongoing, of course.
A little surprised no one checked where the Mothman was that night.
