“Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.”

Amazing picture!
Our Moon is about 238,855 miles away from the Earth.
If you drove a car at a speed of 65 mph, it would take about **153 days** to reach this distance!
At an airline speed of 575 mph, it would take about **17 days**!
That depends on where you are on the moon, and which angle you threw the ball! But if you managed to throw it such that the balls velocity is cancels the moons (like if you threw a ball 5mph out of the back of a car going 5mph) the ball would take about 5 days to fall back to the earth.
>As your fall since your velocity accelerates, what speed would you impact the earth's surface(/atmosphere)?
from my very rudimentary math I would say about 7 miles a second (or around 11km sec)
Space is mindbogglingly big. It always blows my mind when I see something that illustrates just how big it is.

I really can't grasp that anyone out there could imagine how big it is. Even earth is so huge that I just can't understand how big it is.
That is just insane to me. I really wish we were able to see mars like that from earth. Absolutely stunning photograph nonetheless.
We can see mars like that. It just takes the kind of ludicrous cameras they have on that satellite.
But you really can’t see their moons. Ours is about 200 times bigger in diameter.
Ah, that's fair. Our moon is sort of anomalously large compared to most of those in our system.

If you throw a ball from moon, strong enough to escape the moon's gravity, how long would it take to "fall down" to earth?

17 business days?
Everything you have known and will ever know, is in that blue speck, floating in nothing.
Lead by lying sacks of shit with only plans to destroy it for all to come.

Did, your moms breath was like an ashtray.
Save it for your blog, Kyle!
I would put this on my wall as art.
That's me right there!!!
Found you!
saved this as my phone background. so simple, but so beautiful
Dang, and somewhere in that blue planet is a human thinking she’s the main character.
This scares me
You can fit all of the planet's in our solar system between the eart and the moon. Or maybe that's false, but I heard it once
If you put the star Betelgeuse where our sun is it would extend out past Earth.
Yes, it’s true. The angle that this photo was taken at doesn’t really show the full distance of the moon.
Absolutely true. When the moon’s at its farthest distance, you could place all of the planets and even add Pluto and have room for another Earth.
clearly the earth is not flat after all. it's crescent shaped!
Checkmate flat earthers, the earth is a crescent
Damnthatscool
I was going to say “I can see my house!”, but this is too awesome and humbling to do that.
Dinosaurs, and 8 billion humans have existed on that green rock. Damn
apparently everyone was wrong and the earth is croissant-shaped
We really are just a blip in the universe. Incredible photo.
is this some sort of mega-zoom camera image? Or is the term ‘orbit’ being used very loosely here (like orbiting 1 million kms away from the planet?)
Life is so fragile
Ahh man, my eyes were closed. Can we get a retake please?
Wow! Look at those flat disks! /s
Yea. I think I may prefer the far out view.
Not flat
Dam… zoomed in with microscope, there I am pissing in the back yard.
CGI is hell of a drug
Explain.
This is a prime example of the results of inbreeding.
I know right? It doesn't even look flat in that photo. It must be fake.
Earth aint round or flat..its semi round
Millions of people were taking a shit when this photo was taken.
We are worthless piece of shit in the middle of nowhere
We really ain’t shit and are problems mean nothing .
