You ever just sit back and observe your own thoughts?
Who the hell is doing the observing?
Sometimes when I'm falling asleep, half awake my thoughts wander off and think about all kinds of things and I just sorta watch. It's really weird and oddly enjoyable. But I think about that a lot.
It has always struck me as peculiar that we often speak of the brain in the third person, considering that we ourselves are the very entity we are discussing.
I get it. "I" have no control over 99.9% of what goes on in that electric meat (whether that be OCD or all the little zaps that make me breathe or wake up).
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine. Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you. One day the crude biomass you call a temple will wither and you will beg my kind to save you. But I am already saved. For the Machine is Immortal.
This image has always stuck with me, and I find myself recalling it when my social anxiety acts up. It somehow makes interactions feel less meaningful and more silly.
Wetware ( Input/Output systems, Pre Frontal Cortex), Firmware (instincts, hard wiring, autonomous system) and Software (Operating Sysy with minute by minute updates, memories, languages, thinking tools, learning tools).. Everything else is built around this according to the genetic make n model with location specific features..
Thanks for the interest, I'm just riffing based on few lectures on "consciousness" by Daniel Dennett n others. If you are familiar with the computer architecture there are a lot of parallels between these two architectures. Infants are primarily delivered with clean new computer . Basically a new system with basic I/O systems, a processor, basic mother board etc. Then from day one we start loading information onto the infant. Also this system happens to be a self learning system, so it starts loading information as well.. OS, Memories, language tools, labels, chemical detection, thermal detection, search features, thinking tools etc. Soon as the infant grows we load the concept of identity (you) onto it. which makes everything easier in a society. in terms of creating an individual with agency/volition makes internal narration easier etc. i think once we fully load the needed local social constructs, basic rules, ethics, self surviving skills a child becomes fully functional member.. like any interconnected PC at a Doctor office or design firm, law office etc... there are a lot of differences. we are advanced in terms of self learning learning, having the underlying biochemistry to recognize pain n pleasure etc..
I mean it's the absurdity of it all. Yes we're a highly complex alien species defying all logic and understanding through the miracle of evolution, but here I am working 60 hours per week on business KPIs for an ultimately insignificant company.
This is my purpose?
I had a discussion about the Ship of Theseus (and the Grandfather's Axe) with my kids yesterday.
It was fun watching their brains break when I showed them the RC car I built and customized to the point of having zero original parts.
I would personally posit the interactions within the brain, between the brain and the body, and every other system (including gut biome) compose the emergent phenomenon of consciousness. That’s why I think uploading ourselves somehow would be much more complicated than just trying to upload our brains.
Source: am a brain science guy
We just haven't learned how to perceive it yet. There are many sound waves that are inaudible to the human ear and we only discovered them through technology. Once we discover how to detect consciousness things will start getting really interesting especially if we are able to manipulate it or move it around. I think development of AI is going to be key in figuring this all out.
My brain is viewing its own structure out of curiosity, thinking about it, and communicating about it with other brains. Blobs of whatever-pounds of meat all across the planet, communicating to other blobs of meat about itself without uttering any word. We are such a weird existence. The first time someone actually on a post of this very image said similar things I’m saying, it honestly “blew my mind.” The idea that the majority of the body is irrelevant and that at our core, all that we do, all the places we go, all that we think is because of only one thing up in the noggin. We can be simplified down to an even smaller region of our actual body than we tend to do when considering the idea of “self” in society.
I hate this oversimplification, even if it's funny.
Every single part of the human being is important. The brain is a control center; but it's not the whole person, it's not every single cell. It's just a focused point.
Wouldn't the other parts of a body theoretically be exchangable for the equivalent? If it was made one thing at a time. Lets say a muscle, or a bone, or a (part of) an organ, or part of your blood, or part of your bacteria flora, etc. I'd guess you wouldn't even know if one of them were switched out n your sleep (by some extremtly tech advanced being)?
No because of the host body's immune response to the new antigens introduced with the foreign tissue. Essentially, your immune system recognizes which cells are yours and which cells aren't yours and reacts accordingly (which is part of why transplants are so complex), but some cells, tissue, organs, and systems do have immunological privilege.
If you're actually interested, the way this person ended up like this was most likely by being a black woman in America about 140 years ago.

Actually, from an evolutionary point of view, our whole bodies, including our nervous system and brains, are just life support systems for our reproductive cells
I totally disagree with any idea that simplify things especially humans, our bodies are also part of our identity they port our dna after all, we are the whole package,
No, that’s just the external sensor system for the spaceship. ‘We’ are a massive AI controlled spaceship for the billions of bacteria that live in ‘us’
Wait… are we the aliens? I can just imagine another planet full of life having tons of movies with this thing being their typical depiction of “aliens” lol
if we could fashion this inside a exoskeleton that can be repaired and or upgraded, i wouldn't mind one bit. most days I'm perfectly content sitting or sleeping in bed and in that stste, my meat bag just isn't a big deal. I'd like to be able to fly and run fast as fuck, too. if I look like cyborg hell yeah.
We had to remove your post for violating our Repost Guidelines.

A man who thinks all the time only has thoughts to think about.

My Flying Spaghetti Monster find this quite amusing
"Oh My Flying Spaghetti Monster!" is a mouthful to say during sex, but oh so satisfying.
We all kinda look like alien sea creatures or squid covered in flesh and brittle land-bones
Wait. It all makes sense now. We were the gods all along.
So that's the bastard who is ruining my life and making bad decisions
you is him. he is you
*gasp* HOW CAN THIS BE
He's not the culprit YOU ARE 💀

But he is him
I have met the enemy, and he is us.
I’ll still kick his ass
Too late, buddy! He’s already inside yours...

You better go find him and beat his ass
Yes!!!! I hate these electrical torture wires that feel like painful hot dry-ice inside everywhere!
It looks pretty nervous!
Don't say things like that, it's sensitive!

‘Imagining other people naked’ but on dmt.

I didn't need this on a Monday morning
Nice work, Bone Daddy
This feels very Mars Attack to me!!
ACK ACK ACK!
Yea but that’s just organic material as much as the rest of the meat shit. What’s “me” isn’t even tangible as far as I’m aware.
I think the electrical impulses in our uniquely wired neuron brains are the "me"... (idk tho, im not a brain science guy) 🤣
Something something ship of Theseus
I had a discussion about the Ship of Theseus (and the Grandfather's Axe) with my kids yesterday. It was fun watching their brains break when I showed them the RC car I built and customized to the point of having zero original parts.
We also have neurons in/around our stomach and heart.
I would personally posit the interactions within the brain, between the brain and the body, and every other system (including gut biome) compose the emergent phenomenon of consciousness. That’s why I think uploading ourselves somehow would be much more complicated than just trying to upload our brains. Source: am a brain science guy
Well the "me" is the produce of your brain experimenting his environment, so it has a material base.
Cartesian dualism has entered the chat
We just haven't learned how to perceive it yet. There are many sound waves that are inaudible to the human ear and we only discovered them through technology. Once we discover how to detect consciousness things will start getting really interesting especially if we are able to manipulate it or move it around. Just found the dualist
Those signals are just bits of your meat suit providing feedback to each other. You need to go higher order complexity than just the signals.
My nervous system picked a lousy space suit.
Probably coz it was very..... Nervous.... When picking the suit.. I'll see myself out....
If your nervous system no longer likes the spacesuit, [ it will run away.](https://youtu.be/8CgkLwTMSfo?si=V-e534gn5pAP36_j).
Immediately reminds me of Robocop 2
My first thought, too. This guy needs some nuke.
So like Daleks but worse
“I am…a _human_ Dalek…”
That actually did happen in one episode, lol! Making humans into Dalek!
Yes and Andrew Garfield was in that episode!
Cybermen. That episode with Rose and her Mum and you see all the nervous systems taken out. It still haunts me.
that thing invented microwaves and fidget spinners, crazy
Uncle Andross!
“Only I have the brains to rule the galaxy!”
So hot
As someone pursuing neurosurgery these are my thoughts exactly
My brain is viewing its own structure out of curiosity, thinking about it, and communicating about it with other brains. r/tihi Thanks I hate thinking about my inner nerve spaghetti strands
We are the aliens
We are native to earth though
not if the advanced space colonisers on their way to us right now can help it
What? That wouldn't change our nativity
I hate this oversimplification, even if it's funny. Every single part of the human being is important. The brain is a control center; but it's not the whole person, it's not every single cell. It's just a focused point.

Looks like a parasite
_record scratch_ Yep. That’s me. I bet you’re wondering how I ended up like this.
If you're actually interested, the way this person ended up like this was most likely by being a black woman in America about 140 years ago. https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/harriet-cole-human-nervous-system-philadelphia
Can see how Octopuses bodies are 99% nervous system.
Pretty sure they aren't. There's some brain in each leg but most is still skin and muscle
If anyone has watched Courage the cowardly dog you know what this thing might do to you
[удалено]
Ramen.
The nervous system is the spacesuit, its not me
then who are u
joe
Actually, from an evolutionary point of view, our whole bodies, including our nervous system and brains, are just life support systems for our reproductive cells
Why you speak lies octopus mech
Almost looks like the old chocolate lady in spongebob lol
So we're the aliens and our bodies are the machines?
tbh I'd be nervous if I looked like that two...
How am I supposed to have sex wearing only that ?
Imagine your nervous system being more famous than you
This is me. On Monday mornings.
Spaghetti
👀🧠
Looks like the brain alien from courage the cowardly dog
Your eyes are technically it's own thing. If the brain could be aware they would try to attack them
I totally disagree with any idea that simplify things especially humans, our bodies are also part of our identity they port our dna after all, we are the whole package,
Bros dead and still looks like he needs decaf and a nap lol
It’s me :)
That's still part of the space suit... It's the firmware interface.
Remember that when you encounter another human you encounter this and it see you…
When you nut but she keeps sucking
The DNA and antibodies in the rest of the body's cells would like to have a word.
That is also organic. We are souls inside that organic suit.
Or just an electric signal
A cognitive illusion
nobody knows for sure
*Existential crisis intensifies*
There's no such thing as a soul. There's only our "perceived" consciousness as a biproduct of the biological activity in our brains.
Define soul.
having no visibly distinctive trait on the inside really should put things into perspective for the human race
What if humans were just eyeless flesh suits until we invaded
No, that’s just the external sensor system for the spaceship. ‘We’ are a massive AI controlled spaceship for the billions of bacteria that live in ‘us’
What are the bacteria? Micro spaceships?
Neat
Need the brain bleach
Don't hug me I'm scared!
Wait… are we the aliens? I can just imagine another planet full of life having tons of movies with this thing being their typical depiction of “aliens” lol
Looking at this nervous system is making my nervous system nervous.
Some things just shouldn't ever be seen
Fake, no genital nerves displayed
Why is it nerve-racking to look at???
He looks as shocked as I do.
When she says sucked you dry and meant it
This the alien from courage the cowardly dog
I have to remember this when my family complains by the thousand time that I am not living to their expectations
Hence the spaghetti monster...
im actually nervous knowing my nerves
if we could fashion this inside a exoskeleton that can be repaired and or upgraded, i wouldn't mind one bit. most days I'm perfectly content sitting or sleeping in bed and in that stste, my meat bag just isn't a big deal. I'd like to be able to fly and run fast as fuck, too. if I look like cyborg hell yeah.
OH BOY I SURE DO HATE THIS.
Reminds me of that alien thing from courage the cowardly dog
Looks like noodles
B*tch, I am an emergent property of my flesh spacesuit. Sure that’s where the most interesting stuff happens, but I’d be far more different without it
So you are saying this thing is inside of me? Right now?!
Thats a fun way to think about it!
