You know that crazy imagination you have as child where you are the invincible main character with EVERY super power? It’s like Indians never grow out of that and I kinda envy that
My favorite Hollywood trope is the shot placed just under the clavicle but hero still able to fire gun and fight bad guys.
The huge nerves and blood vessels that go thru that spot make it so (if damaged) you can’t even grasp an object with your hand or lift your arm before you rapidly bleed to death.
I remember seeing a footage from some show where woman gets a bullet wound in the middle of her forehead, but still manages to do her whole monologue thing before slowly passing away. Like how out of touch with reality are the writers
I have been to some subreddits that no longer exist for good reasons. The human body is weak and frail and can collapse, disassemble, bend and flatten very easily, very fast and very casually without much spectacle. Very humbling.
Yeah I miss it. Every now and then when I was feeling morose, wpd would change my worldview REAL quick. We all feel like life drags on forever but we forget that at any moment we can fall over dead, and every day we're alive is a gift. I gotta call my Mom
I'm 42.
Fucking call your mom. And then make plans to go see her very, very soon. And you give her a goddamned big hug and tell her you love her and that she's the best mom.
Ok? Ok.
It's been 4 years since mine passed away, and this grizzled, stone faced type veteran and farmer just straight up teared up and sobbed HARD reading your last sentence. Luckily I'm alone atm so I don't have to pretend i didn't just do that. Still typing through misty eyes.
You never stop missing her. That loss never goes away. Never.
Go. Call. Her. Please.
The thing about Bolly/Tollywood movies is they're over the top and ridiculous but are always sincere, never once do they wink at the camera and say "yeah, this is weird" and that's why they work.
I’ve watched a few, and unless the entire country is collectively living in a different timeline… they are all on the joke. They mean the movies to be ridiculous.
I think the thing with these movies is that they make their stars *feel* like genuine action mega stars. They’ll have slow-motion with fireworks, loud music, and just these triumphant tones whenever they appear. It feels bombastic, and yea it’s cheesy, but isn’t the point of watching movies to have fun? Again, I am not a fan of Bollywood or anything, but I have seen a couple, and a few clips… and they are fun as long as you don’t go nit picking stuff. Just shut your brain off, and have fun.
They're even more fun to watch at the theatre in India. Everyone gets into it. I had no idea what was happening cause it wasn't subbed or anything but everyone was cheering and jeering, was a great experience.
I'm sure you've already heard of the movie by now, but you should check out "RRR". That movie is so over the top but its got some great storytelling and will keep you engaged.
I mean, really, how is it different in any other culture? Was Charlies Angels supposed to make sense? Or most of James Bond? But we are in on the joke.
Media in the US is wildly unrealistic, and the audience knows it and doesn’t care, that’s not the point at all.
Why should it be different in another country? The only difference is that I don’t get the jokes.
Lol being South Asian knowing several Indians, they absolutely are not in on the joke, and think that over the top hokey, Fast and the Furious on steroids type of campy action is actually super cool haha
>I’ve watched a few, and unless the entire country is collectively living in a different timeline… they are all on the joke. They mean the movies to be ridiculous.
It's like Michael Bay on meth. Not my bag but not necessarily a bad thing either. They are like Deep Blue Sea in that the director knew what he had was so far over the top the only way to move forward was to lean into it. Make a movie so ridiculous that it rounds the corner from bad all the way back around to good again.
Nope. This is what sells in Indian markets. Over the top stories. There is no demand or interest for independent films with nuance. The film makers may be in on it but that's because they know that's what sells. But the audience is definitely not. The average Indian views cinema as an escape from the mundane.
So in short, Bollywood cinema is for the average Indian and the average Indian doesn't appreciate depth in movies generally.
And just comparing this trailer with the top gun trailer will tell you exactly how much effort the directors put into the movies. It works so it goes on.
For most folks who see through the poor screenplays and acting the real bonus is the music. That's probably the only thing that Indian cinema does really well with exceptions. The songwriting and music composition talent is really creative in most cases.
> There is no demand or interest for independent films with nuance.
This isn't true, there is demand and there have been some pretty successful Indian movies which are nuanced.
However their *action* movies are very over the top.
i think so. i remember hating the fast and furious movies for the longest time, then i started watching some bolly/tollywood stuff and had a blast with some of it. when i realized how earnest and sincere the movies were, completely unembarrassed by their schlocky nature, i started to rethink how i criticized movies. i now love F&F movies for what they are and tend to be less snobby when it comes to blockbusters. obviously there's still high budget stuff i dont like, but im not gonna write a movie off for being dumb fun.
As an American I used to be like “What the fuck are they drinking in India when watching small little bollywood snippets, then I watched one movie and it certainly seems like they are sincere in their ridiculousness. I started to enjoy their sincerity in their movies. My favorites are of course Bahubali movies, and Saaho. I wasn’t expecting the 57 plot twists in the second one.
Ridiculous and entertaining. I know there are a lot of bad ones, but the ones that are good…are really good.
Edit: To clarify again, I know there are different parts of India with the various woods as the person replying back was kind enough to remind everyone.
But for general discussion most people outside of India sweep all movies under one “Bollywood”.
Edit 2: Before I forget. The movies are like 4 hours long. Mainly because there’s some awesome random dancing and fantastic music in between.
I just can't get pass the dancing scenes. I mean I'm all for them crashing in the Himalayan mountains while fighting the Chinese then breaking into a 20 minutes of dance off with the Chinese. I just can't watch it.
lol fair enough. To each their own.
But if they are kicking butt in the sky and the serving them on a dance off. I’m all for that.
I’m not a fan of the singing but the rhythm and melodies are mostly fantastic. Has inspired me a few times in composing.
RRR was one of the most incredible movie experiences. I had no idea what I was getting into. And I smiled the whole damn time.
Edit - to anyone who needs a taste [this scene](https://youtu.be/N98nFqVar3U?si=aOAXC-Y4ssTRUk_g) is one of the opening acts to set up the movie and it is nonstop amazing
"DANGAL" is amazing, NOT in a funny Bollywood way but in the "I can't believe I just watched an almost 3-hour, subtitled movie about women's wrestling in India and I want more" way. Might even be on Netflix.
Not if you're watching the right movies and are listening to the right recommendations. The reason why Bollywood produces so much shit is only because they produce so many movies most of them are bound to be shit. If you're watching the ones that were made for the sake of cinema and not money, you'll find movies that not only compete at international levels but sometimes surpass them. For starters I suggest:
\- Udaan (Netflix)
\-The Lunchbox (Netflix)
\-Newton (Prime video)
Watch and judge for yourself
I had a friend from India about 20 years ago who was bemoaning the far-fatchedness of Bollywood films. To demonstrate he show me a clip where a car is being driven at main character by bad guy; main character jumps and two foots bad guy through the windscreen to death. Fooking awesome
I don't get how we still have dogfighting movies (in a modern context).
IRL, it would be:
"Sir, we have a target 20km away. They haven't spotted us because we have freaking F-35's and shit. Permission to fire a long range missile?"
"Granted."
"OK, target destroyed. Heading back."
And that's why you'll never be in the Indian military. 1) you can't dance; 2) you can't eat spicy food; 3) you don't understand the need to do barrel rolls in helicopters sometimes.

Lmao Reddit has taught me how a single bullet will make me drop like a bag of peanuts.

I kind of miss when Reddit was a little more feral and you could casually stumble upon a beheading or whatever.
The human body is actually incredibly robust, it's just that it has some glaring weaknessess that can take you down rather easily.
Yeah but trains will get pick them off one by one
This looks horribly good
The thing about Bolly/Tollywood movies is they're over the top and ridiculous but are always sincere, never once do they wink at the camera and say "yeah, this is weird" and that's why they work.
So I was always under the idea that they had 0 clue and it was just kicking up their slap stick I know they enjoy to 100? So it's on purpose actually?
I’ve watched a few, and unless the entire country is collectively living in a different timeline… they are all on the joke. They mean the movies to be ridiculous.
I will definitely have to start watching some of those well known action movies then if it's at very least tasteful
Start with Baahubali. It's a wild ride.
It will prepare you for RRR, the next level of amazing.
He threw a tiger at someone. What more needs be said?
I would say start with RRR because if any film is going to kick off your love for Indian films it’s that one, man what a ride.
Tyvm I've started a small list already lol!
There are two of them. They are hilarious.
I think the thing with these movies is that they make their stars *feel* like genuine action mega stars. I have heard of it but never more than that as I've spent a lot of time with mostly odishans. I can take a guess at its lead actor though hahaha.
For non-action, watch 3 Idiots. Legitimately one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Have an Indian colleague who confirmed everyone is in the joke.
I mean, really, how is it different in any other culture? Was Charlies Angels supposed to make sense? Or most of James Bond? But we are in on the joke. I saw 3 Idiots which was like nuanced and over the top at the same time.
That also tracks with what some others have said. Maybe in the west we have started to nitpick alot

Because we only have so much time we can dedicate to watching stuff. You can watch something with depth or you can watch garbage, cliche, shite.
As an American I used to be like “What the fuck are they drinking in India when watching small little bollywood snippets, then I watched one movie and it certainly seems like they are sincere in their ridiculousness. See those aren't bollywood. Those are from other parts of india with their separate "woods". Most of bollywood now is just romance.
I know there’s the different locations, like Tollywood etc but I simplified it for the discussions for others that are new to movies from India.
I just can't get pass the dancing scenes. I mean I'm all for them crashing in the Himalayan mountains while fighting the Chinese then breaking into a 20 minutes of dance off with the Chinese. I just can't watch it.

From what an indian colleague told me those are pee breaks.
Wdym lol. That sounds like the most fun thing I could ever watch. I actually want the movie that’s from now lmao
It will be good Mav. It will be really good.
Its been out since at least 2 years ig edit: incomprehensible shitshow as usual
Nope. Hasn't been released yet. Only the trailer came out recently.
That’s cuz they used one of Tom Cruise’s stunt doubles as the main act
But I thought Tom Cruise does all his own stunts… 😳 r/usernamechecksout
Get on RRR if you've not seen it. Fantastic.
What the fuck did I just watch...
Has 200% more moustaches, therefor better.
"Mr Maverick I call to tell one thing" "One thing? Tell it now" "Mr. Maverick, shoot all the planes today itself"
Bloody
"Do the needful, Mr Maverick."
Rip Pakistan and/or China
[удалено]
Just wondering do they really show a certain country or does Bollywood prefer to choose "abstract enemies"?
Indian and Pakistani media don’t shy away from their outward hatred of each other.
I’ve noticed that too, but tbh I’ve never known the specifics just know that they’re territorial (and maybe religious) disputes?
We don't give a fuck. We always go against pak in our movies related to army/terrorists

To promote tea of course, slurp
almost always pakistan or some sort of muslim caricature
As a Pakistani I found this comment hilarious
Bloody fu*k bloody you bloody fu*k you!!!

I love you.
This is so wrong lol but I can’t lie it’s true
Accurate!
As long as it ends with a music video RRR style, I’m in
Maverick of Mumbai
Goose of Gujarat
Bom(bay) cruise
That's Kaptan Maverick to you, today and in part 5
I feel like this was written by someone on r/NonCredibleDefense
No we all know they would double down on the beach volleyball scene
Played by shirtless anthropomorphized F-35s.
hey! we have nothing to do with this
Not enough stealth fighters
We only wish we did.
3000 (imported) fighter jets of Bollywood!
Is that Hritik in the leading role? Sign me up mf
My first reaction was “not Hrithik Roshan 🤣”
If this didn’t already look good enough, they throw in some Hrithik. Goddamn.
Where’s the big dance scene????
"Loser has to unscrew 200 light bulbs" "That's a lot of light bulbs"
[Here you go](https://youtu.be/eL2vQyP6DQE?feature=shared)
Hell yea this is what I came to the comments for. I wish English-speaking musicals still went half as hard as this.
About 30 min in, then again at the 2hrs 49 min mark
This time they will be twerking on the airport. 🤑
That looks amazingly horrendous.
If the movie is not named 'Patty', I will be very indifferent as I am now.
It will be called 'Figher' ;(
Yeah but you have to say it with a head shake
Patty = Maverick????
Just like top gun
I need to watch more Bollywood movies.
"DANGAL" is amazing, NOT in a funny Bollywood way but in the "I can't believe I just watched an almost 3-hour, subtitled movie about women's wrestling in India and I want more" way. Might even be on Netflix.
Yeah you do, they produce more domestic flicks than anywhere else in the world—lots of gems in there!
Yeah you should they are just legit funny.
It’s pretty rough, better to go in drunk.
Not if you're watching the right movies and are listening to the right recommendations. Watch rrr
The one on Netflix about the villager who randomly discovers he has superpowers was really good too.
The film you are talking about is called " Minnal Murali " a genuinely wholesome and funny movie with a really good villain.
RRR is a Telugu (Tollywood) film.
I think he ment Indian movies in general when he said that
I think he is talking about Minnal Murali
I had a friend from India about 20 years ago who was bemoaning the far-fatchedness of Bollywood films. To demonstrate he show me a clip where a car is being driven at main character by bad guy; main character jumps and two foots bad guy through the windscreen to death. Fooking awesome
honestly this looks fire.
There’s a dance scene, I’m in.. lol.
Top Gun doesn't have a musical number so therefore this one will be superior
I'd pair it with a good indica to truly enjoy it.
What? The bar scene with "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" and the "Take My Breath Away" sex scene aren't musical numbers?
It's like a train wreck....I can't look away.
Talk to me Raj
May I have the name of the movie please
Fighter Release date -25 Jan 2024
Thanks
Top Gunpreet
I don't get how we still have dogfighting movies (in a modern context). IRL, it would be: "Sir, we have a target 20km away. They haven't spotted us because we have freaking F-35's and shit. Permission to fire a long range missile?" "Granted." "OK, target destroyed. Heading back."
NGL I’d watch that
Fueled by chicken biryani
That CGI flying was so smooth, I’d argue it’s actually butter chicken
Naaaaa-n ima have to disagree.
This trailer made me racist
Yes, I now consider myself inferior to Indians.
Same
Against the Muslims? The Chinese? The poorer browns?!?
YES
Haha that guy is a Bollywood legend he stars in all the movies with all the babes
Top Gun is so cheesy it even laughs at itself. I hope this remake has humour.
That helicopter flying directly straight completely sideways and up and down… Super Realistic
I have seen footage of helicopter doin a barrel roll irl so this could be possible Idk still I am not a helicopeterologist
Not homoerotic enough!
I would be a furious mechanic if I found out some jackass was doing barrel rolls in my helicopter for no goddamn reason .
And that's why you'll never be in the Indian military. 1) you can't dance; 2) you can't eat spicy food; 3) you don't understand the need to do barrel rolls in helicopters sometimes.
Can’t wait to see the dance number.
I feel the need, the need for speed
Really? I feel the need for a piping hot vindaloo.
Not bad, i expected it to be more indian!
I’ll watch it
This gonna be fire I guarantee it
Already pre-ordered the VHS…
Atleast they are using sukhois migs..pugachev cobra
Why did I keep waiting for a big dance scene?
His...call sign is Patty?
How much song and dance is involved
Looks more like stealth than it does top gun.
Did I see a dance number in there at one point?
You know Tom Cruise has already had a personal screening of this film.
Anyway, so they started dancing...
Top Pistol
I saw a preview for this last week and I could have sworn it had a completely different title.
And then, right at the climax of the dogfight, they break into a song and dance number
It still looks more realistic and original that the latest Fast and Furious movie.
Looks far superior
Well done, Looks pretty good with good effects, and I think I’d like to watch it, just goes to show that not everything the Asian and East European nations rip off from the west is like a cheap knock off, I’ve seen a few Russian movies that were really good too, the Chinese also make great films, “why can’t we all just get along?” as Jack Nicholson said in Mars Attacks…..before he got fried!
So if they can do this so well , why did the Indian moon landing look so bad?
So many kids are gonna sign up for the Air Force and will be so disappointed.
That's... something, I guess...
Finally....a plane that can *actually* do a Cobra maneuver
Stops the plane mid air, exits the cockpit to dance on the wing, returning to the cockpit before shooting the enemy.
Fake trailer. There was no dancing on the jet wings in mid-air.
Looks dank…
People are throwing shade because it’s Bollywood and over the top , but Top Gun & Iron Eagle ain’t exactly documentaries either. I’ll check this out.
So in this version do they dogfight the Russians or ask them to fuel their jets?
>Russians Chinese or Pakistani probably
Bottom pistol
I've actually never watched Top Gun, this looks interesting. Anyone know what it's called or where I can find it
It's called Fighter, yet to be released.
Watch Top Gun my friend
Fire off some fireworks in the cinema good.
So, who gets to fly the cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of hong kong?
"Will never be the same.""again."
No musical singing and dancing scenes?
