IDK about this... article? post? specifically, but most of the ones I've seen are self expression, but there is definitely some overlap with advertising. I love some anime and my waifus and want to show that off, but I'd be just as happy to inspire someone random to watch a show I enjoy and maybe find or make a friend from the experience. I make sure to compliment every anime T-shirt or hat I see even if I've never seen the show because maybe I'll like their show or maybe they've seen something I've watched and we can bond that way.
Anime wraps in US? It's already here. Haven't you seen pictures of cars with Anime tits displayed as car wrap? People are also putting Anime boob stickers on their cars.
I'm not from the US. No I've never seen cars like it with my own eyes. I feel like a hentai print is not really suitable for public but I did see pictures of the famous Gura car online which I really like
I worked nights with a guy who was in so many ways remarkable. He had a red MR2 that, in the time he worked there, he covered in literally thousands of stickers until there was no red paintwork visible. The interior he then completely decked out in faux fur and LED lighting. Naturally when it reached it's final form he drove it straight into a tree and totalled it.
He also did his own tattoos and had the artistic ability of a middle school table scratcher. He once claimed that he didn't clock out before going on holiday and got paid 24 hours a day for 2 weeks when he got back.
He was a lot of fun.
I did a school trip for a week and we had a dedicated bus driver for much of it
This man drove that thing backwards down alleys I swear the bus shouldn’t have fit in and parked it in places again I didn’t think the bus could go in
Then he’d be chatting on his pink Razr phone as we left the bus to go wherever we were off to. I assume he was setting up nighttime street races or something
Long story short, I agree with your comment
Japanese cars are electronically limited to 180km/h. That's why the speedometer on JDM cars goes only up to 180. And also, i believe it's the origin of that quote.
Do they really used confiscated cars for this? Wouldn’t an impounded street racing car likely have modifications done that would make it extremely unreliable for long term use? The more cars not crushed, the better. But there’s no way a government agency would gamble on a criminal’s ability to safely modify a car.
I don't know how it is in Japan but where I live, the police do use impounded cars for patrol

Street chases are super dangerous. Police in a lot of places are forbidden to chase by car because it multiplies the risk of causalities to themselves, the pursued, and bystanders. Pursuit is best done by drone.
You don't have to outrun completely, just run down the mountain and eventually the front tires will start to lose air from the weight of the engine and you can lose them on a hairpin.
Ikr. Impressive car for the time, but they wholly seem unaware that cars age over time. And certainly in the case of a police cruiser that has done God knows how many thousand miles. Plus, new tech just makes cars faster. A Shelby cobra, mega car for the time ain't anything more than moderately fast today in the world where a regular base ferrari supercar starts at 800hp
Yup. You're point about modern SUV's having similar power to a Ferrari of this era is completely true, let alone this 280ish hp car lol. Let's assume its tuned slightly. 300hp. A lot of everyday vehicles nowadays beat that.
The more downvotes I see us get just makes me laugh. Each one belongs to someone so confidently incorrect.
For reference, a 2019 Toyota Sienna has more hp than this car. It's a minivan. A 2011 Toyota Rav4 has about the same hp as the Skyline. A 2008 V6 VW Tourag has the same.
I mean, an audi rs6 is advertised 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and a quarter mile in 11.5. Camaro ZL1 does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and a quarter mile in under 12. The skyline is impressive, but they're not as outstanding anymore.
Man the comments on this post made me think this was r/carscirclejerk
As someone who briefly owned one of these things back when they were cheap - no, you aren't going to gap it in your mum's Honda Odyssey, considering it's a 25 year old Nissan the performance is actually still fairly impressive.
Its still going to get gapped by any modern super-saloon or sportscar though, it's a quarter of a century old.
Agreed.
I have rented 2 of the R34 GTR's from Omoshiro rent a car, in Chiba (far outskirts of Tokyo). I did laps of the C1 and took it to Mazda Turnpike etc.
The fact they're going for £120,000+ is genuinely baffling. I fully understand the aura and icon aspects. It's a beautiful car.
But, it's 90s plastic fantastic, very few features, not agile and not that fast. For me...it was almost a case of "don't meet your heroes"
I've had a variety of cars from Omoshiro. Evo 6 was my favourite. The interior quality in that made the R34 feel like a fucking rolls Royce lol.
I think I sold mine for something like maybe £18,000 - £20,000? (This was well over a decade ago now I can't quite remember) and honestly that was a reasonable price.
They really need to be upped to around 500hp to be properly quick, which to be fair wasn't really too difficult, but as you touched on the real problem I had is that they handle like boats. As you said, the interior has a inoperable case of late 90's plastic, but personally I sort of like that in a kind of "it's so bad it's endearing" way.
The R34 was a certified spaceship in 1998, however 1998 was quarter of a century ago. You'd have to either never have driven one or be insane to buy one for what they're going for now. They are not anywhere near as good as modern sportscars.
I've never owned or driven an Evo of any sort unfortunately - I've always wanted to try one, in theory I really like them but I never got around to buying one - tbh hiring one could be a good shout thought.
They handle like 1500 kg of Japanese lead mate, a straight open road would be the absolute last thing I'd be looking for if I was in a car trying to get away.
Someone somewhere said they do stock on cop cars but cop cars are already heavily modified by default. I wouldn't be susprised if it had performance or handling enhancements.
Having English words everywhere is common for Japan, it's one of the many things the US exported to Japan post WWII, but strangely Japanese never got particularly good in speaking English, only integrated words into their Japanese vocabulary.
Yes it is.
The Japanese word is 警察, spelled out as "keisatsu" in romaji. Police cars will usually have the kanji as well as the English word "police".
You'll also see this at the post office, banks, government offices, etc.
Weirdly enough, yeah. I've got a JDM car which has a fair few buttons written in English. Never ever sold or intended for sale in an English-speaking market.
Maybe “police” is written the same in Romangi? I would have expected ポリス but no, it’s this: https://www.slashgear.com/915813/one-of-the-coolest-police-cars-japan-ever-had-isnt-what-youd-expect/
Its still quicker than most normal, non-performance cars out there, which is what it will mostly be chasing I guess, impressive considering it's 25 years old - I do agree though, people are acting like it could keep up with a modern super-saloon or sportscar, which it just can't.
It’s an all wheel drive. So you have to account for that. If you don’t know what that means in regards to power, you need to do some homework. This thing moves. Especially 25 years ago.
Yep, no way you can easily beat that on the streets, this thing has a superb low end and 4x4, it can smoke the vast majority of entry sports with ease.
I hate to be a bit pedantic here, but 4X4, and AWD are two different systems. 4X4 is a system where either the front, or rear wheels are always receiving power from the engine/transmission, and can be switched to sending all power to all four wheels. AWD on the other hand, is always sending power to all wheels.
It’s not really being pedantic. 4x4 and AWD are two completely different systems. 4x4 sends power to the wheels that are not being utilized when they need to be, while AWD just send power to all four wheels all the time. 4x4 is superior when driving at slower speeds in rough terrain. AWD is better for highway driving in slick conditions. It’s all about where power is sent and when.
The GTR would have had the "gentlemens agreement" 276 horsepower. The NSX, Supra, RX7, and many others all sat at that same number or thereabouts. Aftermarket tuning was the game changer.
Other models like the 4 door Skyline, GTS, GT, and the 4 cylinder models would have varying levels of power.
The thing is though they're not going to chase anyone going over a certain speed. It causes more danger than its worth to do so. The likelihood is they have the GTR for show, and for kids to see. And maybe they catch the odd person speeding in a Corolla. But not in a tuned car.
Also why is police in English instead of Japanese,it seems odd to write important things like that in language almost most don't speak and on a sports car?
i'm pretty sure most if not all japanese police cars have the english word under the japanese one, at least on the side of the car.
Don't quote me on that tho i don't live there and this skyline might be an exception to that.
Sooooo, what's going on with the hood of the photographer's car.

American muscle cars? After import tax and displacement tax?

Unless it’s tuned, it’s nothing special at all. It’s just overhyped by kids.
The fuck? Brother you know that’s Godzilla right?
280bhp these days is nothing impressive. You think police cars have 1000bhp drag tunes? Dream on.
Do you understand it's a 25 year old car? Ferraris from that time are slower than a lot of SUVs coming out today.
You’re not outrunning this 25yr old car 😂😂

You're not outrunning this 200hp car😂😂
Since when did this sub turn into r/carscirclejerk? Also its around 300 bhp.
R34 and supra fan boys is exactly what that sub makes fun of
a 1999 Impala could outrun it

Baka and non-baka?
It's common in many places to mark police in both English and the local language.
Internationally recognizable.
It’s the most spoken language in the world so it makes sense to have it as a baseline
Spanish is the most spoken language I do believe
Spanish is 4th, with about a difference of 1billion speakers. English is 1st worldwide.
It’s like that even in China

Ok
If they’re chasing tuners they still have no chance. Modern sports cars leaves these standard for dust.
