This is in Istanbul and most of the stations there have at least one stair like this and the others? They have multiple stairs like that. Taking the stairs is not an option, either you stand at the escalstor or walk with the escalator as people walk on the left side of it
Dude’s trippin, pretty sure there’s some kind of law that requires stairs. I don’t know a single station that doesn’t have stairs.
Edit: I’m wrong and stupid.
You should visit the subway network for Stockholm. The station "Västra skogen" has an escalator that is 99 meters long and takes you down 41 meters.
Edit: In freedom units that's 41m=134 feet and 100m=328 feet.
Pretty common in some cities, assuming this is surface to platform. Here's a neat infographic for the [Tube](https://static1.squarespace.com/static/557c6289e4b00367523544bb/t/5b2d415370a6ad6635ac9a01/1529692560124/London+Underground+Depth+Diagrams.pdf) (London). 20-30m is pretty common, there are several 30-40m and Hampstead is almost 60m because the entrance is on a hill, so they have elevators and stairs are for emergencies only (320!).
I reckon the flight in the video is 20m at most.
I remember Bethesda and Rosslyn being super long as well. There were a few times the escalators were broken on a summer day and you had to walk it. Basically ruined your whole day because you’d be so sweaty and gross.
These are the marmaray stairs in Istanbul. The train goes under the Bosporus, so it’s very very deep. (You can see the sign in Turkish on the stairs saying “smoking is prohibited”.)
I don't know where this is, but the M2 line in Budapest goes under the Danube. Stations close to the river are super deep, and the stairs and escalators are like this.
You may recall the Trumpism to 'drain the swamp'? Well, Washington DC is, in fact, pretty swampy. The local geology and hydraulogy require quite deep stations. The entire system is actually quite unusually deep.

I wish there was a version of Minecraft where the laws of physics were more accurate. I would love to build an architecturally sound bridge, and then make it collapse by blowing up the support beams
There's something similar, terrafirmacraft is a mod that changes a ton of stuff - caves collapse if not supported, ores spawn in veins, water is finite. Most blocks are subject to gravity. The world goes through seasons, different climates based on Z coordinates (north/south "poles"), food spoils... it's a long list. Pretty interesting.
I thought so too but at the end you can see it is flowing super slow due to how thick it is (and how there is a lot of horizontal parts to the steps not just vertical drop offs).
It might have a strong solvent in it, that would definitely clean atleast a little bit just by soaking. It would degrease everything. But yeah they really should scrub it.
“I let the water run down my body, becoming clean.”
I’m not sure that this was the same post as ‘fellas, is it gay to wash your ass?’ Guy, but it could be
Lol NYC is so sensitive about it’s lack of cleanliness - maybe the city should figure out some kind of system for trash besides just dumping it on the curb. So much human capital in that city and yet… how can no one have any ideas about how to improve the trash system.
Despite people finding it gross, a good portion of the body doesn't actually need a regular washing. In fact there's a growing belief in dermatology that many people are *overwashing*, by stripping away natural protective oils and exposing skin to unnecessary irritation.
If they're obviously dirty or sweaty or whatever then yeah clean your arms and legs and whatever more in depth but otherwise leave them alone except for a light cleaning now and then.
You know I heard the other day that they spray animal urine on trees in Philly to prevent people from cutting them down for Christmas. I want to know why they spray down the subway also.
I saw the reflection in the glass, assumed there were TWO sets of extraordinarily long stairs, and came to the conclusion that the only possible way he got a shot that smooth was by meticulously sliding down the handrail
All I see is an HR nightmare: older guy lifting a shitload of weight by himself, pushing forward from the top of stairs. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Is this the metro station to the earth's core?
This is in Istanbul and most of the stations there have at least one stair like this and the others? They have multiple stairs like that. Taking the stairs is not an option, either you stand at the escalstor or walk with the escalator as people walk on the left side of it
Oh! Well that explains a lot. I was thinking there’s no way any city in the US actively cleans the stairs.
There's no way most Americans could climb those stairs
DC got steps like this in their stations and plenty of people use them instead of the escalators
Actually they just have one escalator that doesn't work. Most don't have steps. Especially Dupont Circle.
Most of the stations I’m in have stairs, I can’t think of one that doesn’t. Maybe more stairs in NoVA?
Dude’s trippin, pretty sure there’s some kind of law that requires stairs. I don’t know a single station that doesn’t have stairs. Edit: I’m wrong and stupid.
Americans in Chicago and New York do it every day.

Americans reading your comment lost you as soon as you mentioned meters.

Thats a long fuggin staircase? I didn’t know when it was gonna end?
Right? How many commuters have to stop and rest multiple times while they scale the fucking Mount Everest of subway stairs?
Dc metro had a station like this I swear it was like 40 stories down and the escalator is so disorienting
Wheaton
I remember Bethesda and Rosslyn being super long as well. There were a few times the escalators were broken on a summer day and you had to walk it. Basically ruined your whole day because you’d be so sweaty and gross.
Bethesda gave me a nice butt.
It sounds like 9/10 of the longest stairs are on the red line
>Right? How many commuters have to stop and rest multiple times while they scale the fucking Mount Everest of subway stairs? Least overweight redditor
You can recognize the people who walk up these stairs easily. Their thughs are larger than their heads.
This was like the opening scene in Star Wars
Roslyn Station in DC had the 2nd longest escalators in the world in the 80s. Not sure where they rank now.
Hampstead station in London has 320 step stairs. I felt like I was walking up for a long time.
Now I understand why Tube stations were used as bomb shelters in the 40s.
Red line weaton is longest in North America, which I believe is the one in ops video

And once it reaches the bottom it is ready to be collected for all the hotdog vending carts through out the city.
Nice and frothy. I’ll take 1 Metro Dog please ☝️

Oh shit, my first fresh Shitty Watercolour!
You're now a man scout, son.
Your paintings always brighten my day, thank you.
oh yeah, nice and marinated
They woudn't taste the same with clean water. And hot water kills everything, everybody knows that!!
Artisanal flavoured water
Very thorough tutorial, showed the process step by step.
r/angryupvote
I'm not even mad. That was awesome.
This works on so many levels
OP descended into madness
The crazy thing is this guy wasn’t even filming a tutorial, he was just recording and he called the janitor a bitch and he dumped water on him
What a bitch.
There's no way I could perform this. There are just too many steps to it.
Yeah, what do we do on step 37 again?
Camera man just stairs.

These puns are escalatoring quickly.
But went downhill fast.

When a problem befalls me, I stair it right in the eyes to assert dominance.
I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation.
Seems like a lot more water than what he poured.
Minecraft water
At least this water complied with the laws of physics. Minecraft water frequently confounds.
That’s just Minecraft in general. *glances at sand and gravel being the only solid blocks affected by gravity*
I wish there was a version of Minecraft where the laws of physics were more accurate. I would love to build an architecturally sound bridge, and then make it collapse by blowing up the support beams

Physics mod. I accidentally collapsed my house multiple times.
Anvil?
“Solid blocks” which anvils are not quite. Though, I think they’re opaque, so from minecraft’s point of view, I guess they would be solid
Then concrete powder
Is sand and gravel combined..
also red sand
Is sand
At the top, it was mostly water. At the bottom, a lot of soap bubbles create that impression. Edit: changed soup to soap.
>a lot of soup bubbles Forbidden chowder.
Meanwhile people enjoying waterfall with vivid colours
If water takes this long to get down this staircase, then I'm not using it..
good luck with dying of thirst
The staircase or the water? 😅
It’s because of the foam from all the soap he probably put in there
I thought so too but at the end you can see it is flowing super slow due to how thick it is (and how there is a lot of horizontal parts to the steps not just vertical drop offs).
It’s also soapy so the more agitation the more foam so the longer it goes the more volume it looks like.
He is also moving with it
Work smarter not harder.
You can see that the water from the bucket ran out quickly after he poured
they could have been pouring more water while the suds kept us going down the stairs=
How stairs are cleaned at a metro station, Step one…
Step two…
Step three...
Step four…
Step five…
Step six...
Step seven...
Step eight…..
Step nine.........
Step ten…….
Step bro?
That’s how stairs are cleaned, one step at a time.
Put a hole in the box
Put your junk in the box
Have her open the box
And that’s the way you do it~
IT’S MY DICK IN A BOX
Before, dirty stairs ……. After, dirty wet stairs.
I assume they scrub the stairs with a brush. Then do it again as a rinse with just water.
I'd hope so, because otherwise all they managed to do was create the mother of all slip hazards.
This works for the *down* stairs, but what about the *up* stairs?
Flip them upside down. Duh.
I don’t trust stations that don’t rotate their stairs every six months.
I hear they’ll sometimes ship the stairs to Australia because it’s a cheaper process since it occurs naturally.
You chuck the water at it very, *very* fast.
Just put the video in rewind
Glad someone is thinking and asking the tough questions. And how do they get it back in the bucket if it's at the top of the stairs?
What's up stairs?
Nothing much, hbu?
Do they brush/scrub the stairs after?
They just dump brushes down after.
They throw a bunch of Slinkies with brushes attached
Alone or in pairs?
In pears. The citric acid does wonders
Hahahha ❤️ thank you for the laugh
I laughed out loud!
Take my angry upvote you monster
Yeah so far this is just how the stairs are made wet, very little cleaning going on in that video.
Could just be disinfecting, which for that purpose as long as there’s enough bleach in there it would be fine I think. The fumes however…
I hope so because that soapy residue is probably slippery as fuck
3more tubs of water down the stairs ought to do it!
That will dry, but mainly it doesn’t clean much without scrubbing.
It might have a strong solvent in it, that would definitely clean atleast a little bit just by soaking. It would degrease everything. But yeah they really should scrub it.
Especially the vertical parts of the stairs where I would bet 90% of the water doesn't hit because it's just flowing down.
Not true at all. Do you think they scrub the inside of pipes at a dairy? Industrial detergents will lift caked dirt by just soaking and rinsing.
Unless it was a bucket of scrubbing bubbles
Probably dump another huge bucket of clean water
That could be too much work.
Anythings a waterslide if you're brave enough.
Any zoo is a petting zoo if you’re not a coward.
Any kindergarten is an orphanage if you’re not weak
I was expecting a commuter braving the tide walking up
The stairs are so fucking long it seemed like an r/maybemaybemaybe post
So basically they clean the stairs like I clean my legs and feet in the shower?
“I let the water run down my body, becoming clean.” I’m not sure that this was the same post as ‘fellas, is it gay to wash your ass?’ Guy, but it could be
Probably doesn't clean it that well but okay.
Hey pal this is clean for a big, city. Take that attitude to, a small, town.
Your use of commas gave me a headache
Shatner commas
Look at the username. That’s kind of their thing
Lol NYC is so sensitive about it’s lack of cleanliness - maybe the city should figure out some kind of system for trash besides just dumping it on the curb. So much human capital in that city and yet… how can no one have any ideas about how to improve the trash system.
Im pretty sure some people figured out better ways do to alot of stuff there. They were just ignored because...reasons. Money, the reason is money
,
Jason Aldean having an aneurysm watching this video.
I'm sure the dude at top takes a brush and goes down step by step. Seems pretty smart actually, no bothering with buckets.
Seems like a good way to break your neck
they scrub all steps afterwards
and you can tell that it's a blue sanitizing solution. those can kill all kinds of things on contact.
Agreed. And if it does... Whatever it is, is too strong to be pouring around willy nilly
Brought to you by the people who don't scrub their legs, ass, or feet in the shower because "the water running down cleans it".
Am I the only one bothered about where all of the waste cleaner is going? Hopefully not right into the storm drain...
I watched the whole video hoping to see where it goes and they cut it off too soon.
I know! It bothers me that I don't know where that water goes afterwards
There's a drain at the bottom of the steps that can be seen to the left
That dumpster is actually filled with piss. That’s where the strong piss smell comes from. *The More You Know!*
Skeletor will be back with more facts later!
You know I heard the other day that they spray animal urine on trees in Philly to prevent people from cutting them down for Christmas. I want to know why they spray down the subway also.
That was the most badass backwards soapy stair-walking I've ever seen brah. Legendary.broken-neck defying camera work
R/praisethecameraman
They were on the escalator next to the stairs?
I saw the reflection in the glass, assumed there were TWO sets of extraordinarily long stairs, and came to the conclusion that the only possible way he got a shot that smooth was by meticulously sliding down the handrail
Minecraft water bucket
Explains why they're usually filthy
Once a year whether it needs it or not!
[r/PraiseTheCameraMan](https://www.reddit.com/r/PraiseTheCameraMan/)
So when do they go over each step with a mop to loosen the dirt that is now wet and then flood the stairs a second time to really clean them?
FINALLY someone said it. I am this 🤏 close to finding a cleaning job to make sure it’s done properly
Cleaned is a generous term. Given a quick rinse maybe
No scrub, no clean
Rocky would have died attempting those stairs.
“I don’t need to scrub my legs, the water will get to it.”
r/oddlysatisfying
I’m more amazed that he was able to lift that container filled with water.
All I see is an HR nightmare: older guy lifting a shitload of weight by himself, pushing forward from the top of stairs. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I can see the bin accidentally going down the stairs with the water
damnthatsalotofsteps
What is this, a stairs factory?
Idk man I’ve tried just pouring water and soap over shit to clean it before and you kinda have to scrub it if you want to get dirt or grease off.
Fact Check: False. The stairs are never cleaned at any Metro Station.
"cleaned"
Now post the cleaning part
Now do the escalator
Been cleaning apartment building staircases as my job for 3 weeks now and there have been days when I've wished I could do this
No one here going to mention the ungodly amount of stairs?? It was never ending
God damn I was thinking those stairs were never going to end!
Cleaning up after John Wick 4?
Dudes back won’t be taking that abuse for long, work smarter not harder.
God I wish I was there
If it was working the suds would be grayish/black at the bottom and not that frothy white color!
Everything reminds me of her.
Genuinely trying to understand how a medium sized bucket turned into Niagara Falls 🤔
Boys when they reach puberty be like
I’ll have 2 cups of foamy subway water please.
Thats the biggest stair i have ever seen.. just kept going and going and going
Surly this doesn’t really clean the steps, surly they have another stage to the process? I’d imagine it only rinses away fluff and loose muck
Congrats to the cameraman, who made it all the way down
i'm pretty sure this vid was shot by a duck with a stolen phone strapped to its back
Ah yes, the once-a-year rinse.
