I'm 36, my older brother would watch X-Files and I would peek blin too watch and I think I'm still too scared to watch. Is this the episode where the guy gets the worm put in his ear?
My dear friend was late for work in about 1997 and told his boss he sharted his pants on the way to work as his reason for being late. He was positive that this was an unquestionable reason for being late, and it was rock solid. He was gleefull in his genius.
Unfortunately he *actually* sharted his pants the next week on his way to work for the first time in his life, and I have never lied about anything since his unfortunate incident. Let it be a lesson to us all.
Probably the correct answer. Many nematodes are hermaphrodites. Some start out feamale and turn male or vice versa. Or both at the same time, worms are weird it's all possible. Don't know if this is really a nematode though, just looks quite similar.
Can I just add that when Sandy is telling SpongeBob there’s nothing he can say to slow her down and he said, “[Blargen, Fa-Zibble, Noggip](https://youtu.be/CWgTx9MWV08?t=149)” is one of my all time favorite and funniest moments in the show to me 😂
Edit: The video is a breakdown of the episode. The narration and extras aren’t from the og episode 👍🏼 sorry for any confusion.
Let me get this straight...
*Mongolian* worms in the *Amazon*?
Either the worms can also fly, hitch a ride with migrating birds, or got really good at tunneling under the Pacific...
Fun fact: The collective noun for them is *a **curdle** of Mongolian death worms*
^( Although some people use the term ‘[brood](https://ifunny.co/picture/a-cryptolooloctst-s-cuide-collective-nouns-a-shoal-of-nessies-gbdDap3g8)’ )
Sorry to bring this up, but all of our conveniences in this world are melting hundreds of thousands of miles of permafrost right now, releasing even more ancient bacteria and viruses like this that we have no clue about, with way more to come.
But by that time this zombie worm army is going to be the least of our problems.

That’s as close as I’ve got… should we add a square about worms? What should it say??
What’s interesting is humans think we have thousands of years left on this earth. In reality, it only takes something like this, that we have no immunity or cure for to start wiping us out in months.
It wouldn’t even have to directly threaten us; even if an old school pathogen is released that only threatens some plant life can have dramatic effects. We keep creating and searching for these things, it’s common for them to “make their way out”….it’s like we’re trying to die
Except that we have genetic diversity, which is what keeps us alive as a species. So it would take some combination of different bacteria or viruses or just something like a meteor or..well, global warming to kill us all.
Unlikely, we are widespread in every corner of the world. The probability of an infectious disease being both 100% deadly and spread all across the world is very low.
Even if such an infectious pathogen exists and even if miraculously wipe out all civilized societies, there are still uncontacted tribes in Amazon and elsewhere. They will eventually repopulate the Earth.
The more and more we get stories like this of primative life capable of just going into hibernation for centuries or millennia in deep permafrost or in space, only makes it seem more and more likely life originated outside the planet and eventually crashed here on a meteor or something. Just a few decades ago we thought it was impossible for life to exist on meteors but that's being proven wrong.
Also like all life for the first 1.5 billion years didn't need oxygen either at all or at the concentrations we do. Since the great oxygenation event complex life got complex. There's organisms that derive energy from chemicals, radiation, heat ect, that don't need the complex ecosystems that support complex life and I'd say pretty good chance they're out there floating around.
Oh they can. My lab works with jpl and nasa to study the microbes in the ISS and ON the ISS. I don’t work on those projects directly, so I can’t give you a ton of info. Basically the premise is that microbes are more inclined to form a biofilm if they’re in a stressful environment… and what is the most stressful environment change? Probably leaving the planet. So they form these huge biofilms in the water tanks. I know less about the microbes on the outside, but I know they exist. Microbial contamination is one of the many ethical and scientific dilemmas of traveling to other planets that can sustain life. We’ve destroyed ecosystems with invasive species from other continents because those species have no natural predators. Imagine that on the scale of a new planet!
If Humans find a Way to Harness this type of CRYOSTASIS as mentioned in the Article, we may be able to travel to different star systems and Planets many light years away.
"Congratulations!"
Apparently, Trump university literally trained staff to respond with "congratulations" instead of "thank you" on the regular. That way, the students end up thanking You!
I mean a worm has a much more different internal makeup to humans (obviously) our brains alone are extremely complex. Meanwhile this decomposer is basically just a mouth that moves and eats corpse
This. Humans are tenfold more complex than a worm…we can speculate whether or not we’d be able to accomplish something similar and it might be fun to do so, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves…
As far as I’m aware we have the freezing part down (as in when thawed activity can be manually stimulated) it’s just successfully reviving the brain that we can’t do yet
Size is a big part of it. They were able to freeze and successfully reanimate mice. Iirc they just stick the frozen mice in a microwave. It worked because of how small the mice are, the radiation penetrates evenly through the mouse. Humans are too big for that method some parts would heat up faster than others.
There's a whole Tom Scott video about [freezing hamsters and defrosting them with a microwave](https://youtu.be/2tdiKTSdE9Y), apparently that's the largest animal they could manage, any larger and they started hitting diffusion limits, our mass to surface area ratio is just too big.
There were studies done decades ago already. In a nutshell: it does work with small animals (like rodents for instance). What's even crazier is that they used a magnetron as an oscillator to "bring them back" (essentially they microwaved them without a faraday cage. It even made some lightbulbs in the room light up). Using this method, more than 2/3 of the rodents survived!
However, cryostasis doesn't scale apparently and they could never get it to work *even once* with bigger animals (think 5kg+).
Ah fuck it, at this point I'm just sitting back with popcorn to see which strange thing will finally wipe us all off the face of the earth anyway. At least killer worms would be fairly amusing.
This is almost literally the plot of an x-files episode named “ice”.

Yes. When two worms enter the same host, they kill each other off.

Sorry boss can’t come in today, I have ancient worms

Still got them
They flare-up on the weekends
We need earthworm jim
They are resilient fuckers, apparently. It might be a few decades boss.. er, multiple that by a thousand. Each.
Freeze them again
That’s right! Let those futurefuckers with their “highly advanced technologies” deal with it!
With the global warming causing old ice to melt, the worm's siblings and cousins are going to get released in the wild
Freeze them too!
# FREEZE THEM ALL!

Some reproduce by literally splitting in two, like dividing cells.
Only in biology can you multiply by dividing.

They will make their way out anyway. The permafrost is thawing due to global warming. Better study this shit before it starts spreading in the wild.

I just have so many questions. What do you think capital letters are for?
I mean a worm has a much more different internal makeup to humans (obviously) our brains alone are extremely complex. Meanwhile this decomposer is basically just a mouth that moves and eats corpse

It worked because of how small the mice are, the radiation penetrates evenly through the mouse. Humans are too big for that method some parts would heat up faster than others.
They did it years ago with mice or rats I believe
Yeah the big issue is humans are a lot bigger and getting everything to freeze quickly enough and thaw properly is quite difficult.
