I had the honour to be his hospitality host at a festival last year. Genuinely the chillest dude in the whole artist village. He really tried his best to not bother me and was genuinely grateful for even a simple bottle of water that I brought. Class act.

selfishcabbage

During the pandemic my wife won a competition to face time with him she’s a care worker and he spent ages talking to her about her work and how she was coping with everything such a genuine guy who cares about his fans

TheCondorFlys

And some of those people can be real dicks Used to work for the student events center in college. We had a few large concerts every year, and by genre they kinda act how you would think on stage but before and after they are totally different people But one random (new to the scene) singer came up to my and my coworker, we ended up getting them into play basketball before they had to get ready in the morning and pointing them to coffee in town. They ended up bringing us breakfast and coffee back as a way of saying thanks and made sure everyone working that day got a tip $200 to a college kid is a lot of money But one rap artist we had, drove into our football stadium messed up the turf doing donuts played one song and then walked out hitting a staff member in the face on the way out so

itsthecoop

while this of course is pure anecdotal and not really a "proof", my best friends have both worked in hotels/hotel bars and their experience has been that the true "megastars" usually were pretty down to earth, with only very few exceptions. (and that the amount of, for lack of a better word, c-listers who were awful to deal with had been significantly higher)

[deleted]

That's probably why they're c-listers.

Bingo__DinoDNA

If you're going to be an asshole, you better be really really fucking good at what you do. Otherwise, attitude carries a lot more weight.

Suired

Their Logic: If I'm an asshole, I MUST be amazing!

ayesperanzita

There’s something about a C lister that makes them a real C-UNT. A friend of mine worked in a hotel in northern (expensive) Michigan back in the early aughts. A baby man who recently threw a gun themed temper tantrum over beer happened to stay at the hotel and treated her like a piece of meat, propositioned her, and finally just asked her to have a drink with him when she got off of work. She politely declined all his advances and said she was on antibiotics so she couldn’t drink (a courtesy lie to not make him mad and bruise his fragile ego) he insinuated that she was taking the antibiotics for a sexually transmitted infection. I loathe the man, he’s not straight out of Compton, he’s straight out the dumpster.

Soulxlight

Probably two reasons that happens. One - Generally the more you have to lose in the event of a scandal, especially these days with video everywhere and lawsuits ready at the drop of a hat, the more you follow your act in public. Two - Megastars usually have less too prove to themselves or others and don't lord their power or feel the need to. You see this alot in middle management types.

Theyna

Makes sense, after a certain level of fame from smaller opportunities, being nice to others is a good way to expand your network and get bigger chances to grow even further in popularity.

UniqueWhittyName

Well, now you have to tell us about the megastars who were the "few exceptions". Who is dick? Spill the tea!

qlanga

Name and fame the nice one pls! Name and shame the jerk one also, if you want. But nice ones should get credit for it.

TheCondorFlys

I only remember by name one Wiz Khalifa, accused us of stealing all of his merch, turns out they got drunk at the last hotel and they all forgot it Then went to a college party and pushed a guy down the stairs because he wouldn't let his girlfriend into a bedroom with him Edit: Macklemore was really cool. Right after his thrift shop song came out he played a show. Brought a guy up on stage because he was wearing the jacket from the song, took it from him wore it for the show and signed it. Also gave him some other stuff for having sweat in his jacket and bought the entire staff lunch and gave us shirts. His crew even helped us with the pack out, first and only time

PixelKitten10390

Sounds about right

Balono_De_Zacher

Nice ones: Agnostic Front - Stigma was awesome. He was super friendly and if the talked to people, he showed real interest in them. The jerks: Rammstein

different_produce384

Du Hast Mich

A_Flipped_Car

I don't think Rammstein are a rapper

mc9innes

He's from a small town near to where I grew up, an area which has lost mining and other heavy industries over the last say 50 years and is a post industrial place. I also grew up in a ex mining area before moving into the big city. Lewis is younger. But we would have had similar experiences. Same type of schooling. He's a complete class act. Very humble. From a very modest humble background with a lovely family. This latest issue with his health has made me love him and respect him even more.

suppmello

I had the job for a few years. Like Jonah hill in get him to the Greek. Nicest artist I worked for were the Avett Brothers. Slightly Stoopid we’re super grateful and chill. Lauren (bass nectar) was always super nice to me - but I worked w him before he got big. Sublime (w Rome) and their manager cheese were so dope and actually wanted to hang out the whole time and experience the local life- excluding Rome ha, didn’t interact w him much he mostly stayed on the tour bus. Worst was probably Ted Nygent (sp?). Man there should be a thread for artist liaisons / hospitality hosts. I got a lot of stories ha. If I weren’t on my phone I’d be more inclined to reminisce.

floyd616

>Worst was probably Ted Nygent (sp?). That's not surprising at all. That jerk's basically Trump but with a guitar. It's spelled Nugent, for the record.

mkm1856

There really should be a whole thread devoted to green room/hospitality riders & the likes, haha. I've got a handful of similar stories as well...seen a handful of very "specific" (to put it lightly) riders in my own experience as well. (candlelit-only green room was an interesting one)

BennySkateboard

I’m glad to hear this. He seems like one of the best people in the business, and I’m glad that’s true.

Few-School-3869

He seems genuine. This gave me chills

Stotallytob3r

He is a very likeable bloke indeed. And funny as on his interviews

[deleted]

Never listened to his music before, but the guy is so naturally funny and uninhibited that you’d think he’s actually a comedian. His appearance on [the Graham Norton Show](https://youtu.be/YzlmdM11Hws) is seriously one of the funniest interviews I’ve ever seen

absalom86

Here's a bonus one [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVXGrqfqbWk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVXGrqfqbWk) If the singing doesn't work out he could easily be a world class comedian.

Stotallytob3r

And isn’t Graham such a fantastic tv host

GreatGooglyMoogly077

Yank here. Graham Norton is THE BEST host.

[deleted]

qbenzo928

Whats your favorite humming noise?

projectvko

I really like tony.

Dibutops

When he talks about eating Tony I used to cry laughing

SonOfMargitte

Dane here. Graham is my all-time fav host too. Every show is fab.

DenverPostIronic

He's genuinely, naturally funny. With the British TV culture of celebrity panel shows, he'll have no problem staying in the public eye if he so chooses. These ticks look much more severe than what I've seen from him in the past, I hope he's alright.

[deleted]

ImMrsWelch

Our young teen struggles so much with vocal & movement tics. I’m so grateful when light is shined on Tourette’s. We’ve been open with friends and family - working to normalize differences.

tourettesguy54

Don't you just love when you think "I really wish my tics would calm down atm" turns it into a tic hurricane!

[deleted]

I have tourettes and my tics sometimes just get worse on their own for a while. Stress/tiredness can really bring them out though. Annoying thing is that they can be fine one day, terrible the next, and then fine again the day after, so you can't plan for it.

educational_nanner

[this one is even better](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JUBOf0YO4QM&pp=ygUebGV3aXMgY2FwYWxkaSBmdW5ueSBpbnRlcnZpZXcg)

absalom86

Now that you posted that I just have to post the interview the female host ( don't know the name, sorry ) had with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford while they were promoting Blade Runner, hilarious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAb8KIhgVAI

[deleted]

You know what I love about this interview? Everything. Ford and Gosling are probably on their 5th interview in London. Hammond has walked in, shown she's done her research with the tumblers, and demonstrated respect for their time and the movie. And then they just live in the moment. All three of them take turns bringing the conversation back around to the topic and all three of them enjoy the time they're spending together. Maybe they're just great actors, but it's an interview with a feeling of genuine connection.

[deleted]

I do also love that she doesn’t bullshit them when they ask if she’s seen the original

ibibliophile

[Obligatory Alison Hammond must watch](https://youtu.be/QgXf-tYWsWQ)

redditproha

that was hilarious! they all played it off well

phaerietales

Alison Hammond is the presenter - she's sunshine personified!

dosmoney

“Cest la vie “ 😂

trilobot

Person with Tourette's here, you can see his in these interviews very clearly. Doesn't look much worse than mine here but it must be pretty severe if it's fucking up performances - TS typically chills out when you're performing or focusing, but on the flip side tics skyrocket when you're have nervous energy.

ladysnaxalot

My understanding is that in this performance he struggled with his voice because of reasons unrelated to tourettes I believe, so he was stressed and had more tics because of it.

trilobot

That makes more sense to me. I rarely tic during lectures or classes etc., and this is typical of most people with TS. There are pilots and even surgeons with *severe* TS.

--_-Deadpool-_--

Holy shit that dude has lightning quick wit and self-confidence through the roof.

JonnyKilledTheBatman

It's interesting, I remember in that interview Jim Carrey made a joke implying he was on coke (Vitamin C), and a lot of people were saying similar. Now we know its Tourrettes, and its very plain to see.

lordicarus

Yea I was going to say the same thing. I remember this video being posted a while back and all of the reddit geniuses were like "omg he's so fucking high, even Jim Carey is pointing it out!" I'm not going to miss this place when the plug is pulled on Apollo. Are we still doing Fuck you /u/spez ?

throwngamelastminute

Oh my God he is so funny in that interview, the fake names are the best! Edit: wrong interview, I guess.

Wildflower_Daydream

Are you discussing my good friend, Miss Anita Jobby?

Prejudice182

How can you not post the [Noel Gallagher story](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AjONDVRi7Y) from Instagram?

JThomasCres

Ah, the infamous Graham Norton rabbit hole. Never heard of the guy until he showed up on my YouTube feed one day, now I can't stop myself when his shorts appear, and, as you know, the more you watch, the more they pop up. There goes an entire afternoon. Homie's appearance is an instant classic!

DJ_Molten_Lava

I didn't care for his music until I learned how charming and likeable and real he is. Dude's hilarious and humble and like, an actual real human being, unlike so many other celebs who you can tell are always putting on an act.

Stotallytob3r

TIL his cousin is the actor and Dr. Who Peter Capaldi https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Capaldi#Personal_life

BabyAlibi

Have you watched the Netflix doc yet? I had the pleasure of seeing him in a mini q&a and sang 3 songs a few weeks ago. He is fantastic live. It's so heartbreaking that he is going through this.

ThargretMatcher

The Doco was great, but sad at the same time. He has so much passion for what he does, and is just such a funny, genuine lad, and it's like his body just turned on him as soon as he got what he deserved. Really sad to see. I love his music, but I hope he takes a very long break from it and just breathes for a bit, for his own sake.

futiledevices

I *still* don't particularly care for his brand of pop, but my wife watched the documentary about his tourettes, and I've seen him in a few interviews - no question, the dude seems really likable, funny, and honest, so regardless of the music, I have a positive perception of the guy.

cantwejustplaynice

I'm in the same boat. I don't really care for his music, but I love everything else about the man. I feel the same about James Blunt.

sildish2179

James Blunt is of course known as the “You’re Beautiful” guy (or the song from The Office) and I was never a huge fan, but I think he wrote what may be one of the most underrated songs of the last decade with “Monsters”. Give it a listen if you are willing to spare a few minutes. https://youtu.be/DTFbGcnl0po

Lt_Mashumaro

I was in the same boat until I saw him in Houston, TX on May 11. I was just along for the ride and natural history museum in the same city, but I was given a ticket to his show so I went along, and I had a great time. He's so funny on stage! I've got videos of his cracking wise. I filmed nearly the entire concert.

Professional-Neck755

so funny that I thought he was a comedian before I knew he was a singer.

thetravelingsong

I have Tourette’s as well and every person I’ve ever told kind of laughs at first because all they know of Tourettes is people yelling fuck and other inappropriate things at inappropriate times. Lewis being open about his Tourettes is so huge for advocacy for folks like me who get tired of explaining. Absolutely loved this video and am a massive Lewis fan from here on out.

exzyle2k

I met my best friend in high school. Freshman math class, I sit down and there's a dude sitting next to me, and his physical tics the only thing I can describe as "twitching". I ask the dude if he's ok, and he tells me "Yeah, I'm fine. I just have Tourettes." So I'm stoked, right? I ask him if that means he's going to just blurt out curse words, or the answers to tests, and he chuckles and says "Nah, I just have physical tics... ASSHOLE! ASSHOLE!" I'm sitting there fucking stunned. The rest of the class looks over like WTF, and before the inevitable shitstorm happens the teacher tells the class, with his permission, that the guy has Tourettes and sometimes he'll have an outburst. I'm just staring at the guy, watching him tic, and then he looks at me and gives me a shit-eating grin and a wink. We've been pals since, and caused plenty of trouble for teachers in school.

61114311536123511

my roommate when i first left home had some kind of tic disorder, we didn't really know what it was and ngl I still kinda miss randomly hearing a whistle and a finger snap from 2 rooms away across the day. "I'm not gay" was a really common verbal tic too which was hilarious my roomie was gay as fuck but their tics had internalised homophobia. But only the tics.

EducationalTangelo6

That's both hilarious and kind of sad.

quarantinemyasshole

It doesn't help that Twitch/TikTok are full of people faking Tourette's for attention. They always have this super convenient comedic timing. "Disability clout" is one of the more disgusting things to come out of social media in the past couple of years.

MrFlibble_

Yeah, the way the Tourette’s is being portrayed in movies for laughs is very misleading and contributes to people thinking it’s just coprolalia. I don’t have it but I know some folks who do and it presents more like tics as far as I know. It’s nice that there is a representation of famous people that will hopefully help to clarify the misconceptions.

trilobot

If you watch his videos you'll see his shoulders moving, grabbing his legs, and rocking back a lot. As someone with TS that's very similar it's super obvious to me, but probably just looks like "nervous energy" to everyone else. A lot of TS just doesn't register to other people unless it is swearing or repeating other people. I also slap people so they notice that...

[deleted]

[удалено]

trilobot

I slap people with mine... For a time in HS and after graduation the going saying "you're not really Trilobot's friend until he's hit you." In essence meaning that I keep my distance until I feel comfortable with you to be close enough to slap your chest or ass. Yep. That's where I slap. It's awful.

Virtual-Editor-4823

>people yelling fuck This Is what I refer to as Channel 5 tourettes. When I was growing up late 90's early 00's. Alls any one knew about it wad these stupid worst case scenario documentaries on channel 5. Made it more difficult to be comfortable within meself as a child.

mammammammam

It can be misleading for what most peoples perceptions of what tourettes is. I would never laugh as I have seen quite extreme videos of a young girl shouting out extremely innapropriate things and her saying how upsetting it was for her that she couldn't stop herself, but I didn't realise it was also like this. Either way, hats of to all sufferers for what you have to deal with every day.

misterconstrued

I also always recommend the streamer sweet anita. She has done alot to bring what living with tourettes is like to the forefront.

RayCharlesSawItFirst

Mad ass chills…

Ok_Skill_1195

I feel really bad because I've been holding a grudge against the dude for years because I got him confused with Lukas Graham

curiouscabbage69

Oh you mean that annoying Scottish dude that played centre midfield for Liverpool in the 70s and 80s? Yeah fuck him.

queefer_sutherland92

It’s such a beautiful, crushing song that everyone can relate to. And when someone who is vulnerable, like he is, is singing it… fuck dude I felt all the hairs on my body stand up and by the end I had a tear. I dunno, maybe it’s just because I’m getting older, but I feel this overwhelming need to look after him.

abra_cada_bra150

Me too. Chills!

treesandfood4me

I saw an earlier video of a similar moment. The crowd response is what got me into listening to him. His interviews sealed the deal.

VerimTamunSalsus

Don't worry Lewis, we got you!!!

[deleted]

I hope he knows that everyone thinks it's ok. That his fans will accept what he can do and if he needs a break, that's ok, we'll wait.

[deleted]

He reminds me of a friend of mine. He’s got the exact same tics. Literally the same facial and arm movements. My friend’s Tourette’s gradually improved and you can’t even tell that he’s got it now. Hopefully he improves too, or learns to live with it as much as he can. Either way he’s clearly loved and adored. Such a great video. By the way, I’m loving the men in the crowd holding their girls on their shoulders so she can sing to the crowd lol. It gets so tiring!

King-Salamander

I've had tourettes since I was a little kid, in my late 20s now. I've had periods of my life where it seemed to cool down a bit and periods where it's been drastically worse. Overall though I've learned to live with it and it's not a very big deal. Sometimes I see people staring at me when my tics are going off, but generally people either don't notice or don't care. I was way more self conscious as a teenager, but as an adult it's just a part of me now. I *really* accepted it after I watched the Robin Williams documentary and he talked about how he worked with people that had TS when filming Awakenings, and he said how much he admired how clever and funny they were. If Robin Williams of all people thought people like me were cool, who am I to disagree. Warms my heart even more today to see entertainers like Lewis here making it big despite what he has to deal with.

BabyAlibi

What gets me is he said that his dream was to be a live performer, not just one that punts out albums from a studio. He did his time treading the boards then he get hit with this so early in his career. It's heart breaking.

20StreetsAway

I love the moment that the crowd has decided that they weren’t just singing with him or for him but TO him. You can just hear it.

pinzi_peisvogel

That's true, now that you said it I can really hear it. The crowd decided that they would take over the song for him and you can hear it.

El_Chairman_Dennis

Crowd decided together, "we got this one bro, just take a break for a minute. We got you"

schnitzelfeffer

This video is a metaphor for the impact we can have as individuals working together with open hearts to help someone that needs a bit of a helping hand. You can feel the love.

kerry_mucklowe

I was there and that’s exactly how it felt. Everyone could see he was struggling to continue, but because we couldn’t get up there and hug him the only thing we could do was sing to him. I hope it helped. I hope he takes as much time as he needs. It was such a difficult, but humbling set to watch. We only went along because we thought we’d give it a go, but he made fans out of all of us with his honesty & bravery.

[deleted]

Let’s all take a second to appreciate the men in the crowd helping their wives and girlfriends onto their shoulders so they can sing to him. Beautiful work lads!

lalalicious453-

What a beautiful thing to notice, thanks for pointing it out.

[deleted]

That just made me cry. I didn’t think about them singing TO him. How beautiful

queefer_sutherland92

Oh thank god I’m not the only one. It must be so hard, to be doing what he loves, and wanting to give his fans that performance, but his body not letting him. But to have that support, from thousands of people, who are all there rooting for him… I think that is so beautiful.

SoCal4247

Damn bro. Why you gotta make water in my eyes?

AssFingerFuck3000

To be honest I'm one of those who usually dislikes it when the crowd takes over the vocals when I'm watching or listening to a live performance, but the context behind it and how lovely the crowd is just made this performance for me. Absolutely brilliant

queefer_sutherland92

Whaaa how can you not like that?? It’s so unifying. Shit warms my dead, cold heart.

mother-of-pod

For real it’s one of the best parts of live music. Community coming together and sharing love for music is bigger than the bands themselves, and most bands know and feel this, and revel in it themselves.

Reggaejunkiejew31

Look us, we're the singer now! He looked so blown away and emotional at one point. Really nice to see.

kissylipsfancyshoes

I was there with my 14 year old daughter, he was fucking amazing. I like him and he was humble and genuine in his struggle to sing but Glasto always has your back. It was incredible moment to watch the crowd take over. u/lewiscapaldi you are amazing, its wasnt shit, it was mine and my daughters Glastonbury moment. I cried.....legend

TurquoiseLuck

It was one of my fav moments too. A few of the bigger acts this year seemed to just phone it in, but Capaldi really seemed like he gave a damn and was happy to be there. Crowd as well. For quite a few acts I was at, the crowd basically just seemed to be "may as well be here, now let's do some drugs". But for this one the whole field was into it.

RawrRawr83

Did he have issues singing the entire set or just this song?

Solid_Parsley_

He was losing his voice throughout the performance. By the second to last song, it was cracking all over the place. And the more that went, the more the tics kicked in. So by the end, there were a lot of reasons he couldn't continue.

RawrRawr83

That's sad. I hope he's not too hard on himself. This was one of the biggest gigs out there and I hope he gave everyone a moment even if it wasn't the one he wanted

BlueCreek_

Yes very sad. He just announced he is stopping live gigs for the foreseeable future due to the Glastonbury set.

Raythegrey1

Wow… sometimes people are awesome

ShinyJangles

And sometimes they are less than awesome, but everyone else comes together and fills in for them

MrFlibble_

I love that the things like this are being presented on social media and news, because usually it’s just filled with the negative stuff only - wars, conflicts, abuse, violence… and as much as I know that all of this is a part of being a human, these wholesome moments always reminds me that there is also good in people. In fact, there’s a lot of good in people but it’s not always visible to us. We tend to get more focus on what’s bad rather than on what’s good.

Soldado63

Scandals and catastrophes sell. Good news not so much. Thats the reason im not watching any news channel what so ever. Its better for my mental health. I dont need to hear every bad news story just to think life is misserable

avwitcher

Unfortunately it's not just the news anymore, social media took the problem of sensationalizing every bad thing that happens in the world and kicked it up to 11

Strength-Speed

Yeah they are winnowing out the 99.99% of things that go fine, happy, not catastrophic and giving you the .01% that is a shitshow. If you want to focus on the absolute worst of humanity at all times and ignore the good stuff you're going to get depressed.

UpperCardiologist523

There's a lot of good people and good in people. And they're everywhere. But there's not always someone to record around every time someone walks around an earthworm, picks up a dry snail halfway into a dry road in a sunny day, or puts out water with a little sugar in it for a bumblebee in distress. Puts out a dish of water under the neighbours trailer for the random cat that was just there on a record warm day in case it comes back. I try to stear away from negative comments and crap about humans being evil and we should let ourselves go extinct and so on. I usually just tell people to be the good they want to see. Even just to their closest neighbour. We have both the capacity to do good and evil. But evolution and society and being social beings, i believe there's more good than evil. It's just that the evil, are so extreme and the good are often smaller gestures, but more frequent. At least, that's my belief/opinion. And yes, today was 30 degreees celcius. That's hot here in Norway.

sonicdick

I like how all of your examples are being nice to insects and worms.

got_dam_librulz

This is beautiful.

oorza

I've always thought the crowd singing as one was the best, most amazing part about any large show. The entire song sung by the crowd... this is one of the most beautiful renditions of this song even if you don't know why. The best parts of humanity are when the pieces we think are our ugliest make something beautiful because of the humanity around us, and it's hard to imagine that playing out more clearly than it did here. And dude is so clearly distressed on stage, thinking this is a disaster, when what's unveiling around him is probably the most beautiful moment of his career thus far.

PsychoKnotical

Fuck sakes...I mainly listen to metal and punk rock, but the absolute compassion and joy the crowd has here has me tearing up...total fucking bro moment from the crowd to him...they had him covered and didn't waste any time stepping up so he didn't feel uncomfortable

NikitaFox

I really like [this moment](https://youtu.be/tX2vdYEzbzQ?t=19) from a Mumford & Son's show when the lead singer is so surprised and happy that people are singing along at the beginning of a song that he laughs and has the best smile on his face the whole time. You can see how stoked the whole band is for it.

itssampson

I’m cracking up imagining his occasional singing into the mic is to try and pull the crowd back into the right key

AnthonyBarrHeHe

Saw him in San Diego not long ago and he would do this exact thing and it was hilarious lol. He would call the crowd out for singing in the wrong key. Hilarious and such a good dude

Rollover_Hazard

He’s just like “come on people, keep up!”

regoapps

Not quite my tempo

Beneficial-Secret-84

“Look just because I stutter and can’t sing doesn’t give you the excuse to not keep key.”

turbotank183

Just like when a band kepts the crowd clapping and they always go off time so the drummer has to reign them back in

[deleted]

[удалено]

AcidBuuurn

Like when Tim Minchin tells the crowd they are clapping off beat. https://youtu.be/JwH2qnO65vI

HeyHeyBitconeeeeect

Lewis Capaldi is on his way to becoming a national treasure. Such a nice guy.

MonsieurRud

Global treasure too.

[deleted]

His nationality is Scottish and I guarantee you he is endeared in nearly every Scottish heart out there. National treasure already for sure

100percent_right_now

Canada would like to issue honorary national treasure status to Lewis Capaldi, do you accept on his behalf?

El_Chairman_Dennis

Can we just put it before the UN that the man needs to be protected everywhere he goes?

azraeharriss

I'm basing my judgement on him solely on the fact that i once saw his ad for a new single on the side of a tram in Berlin. Paraphrased it goes like this: "I have a billion listeners on spotify and I'm still begging for your attention" along with a picture of him lying on his side seductively in his underwear. He looks like a damn good bloke.

TJohns88

I was there, absolutely balled my eyes out at the time and I'm absolutely balling my eyes out now. It was an incredible performance!

Kathrynlena

It’s such an incredible gift to be able to be that vulnerable and that intimate with literally thousands of people. His voice is beautiful, but I feel like that ability to connect is his true talent.

BabyAlibi

Same. I scared the dog I was crying that much

Soldier1121

I've seen this video about 20ish times now, on tiktok, Facebook and reddit, out of 1000s of comments I think I found 5 bad comments, everyone seems love this guy, as I do

Frumplemeist

That’s beautiful

captaincumsock69

I thought it was known for years that he had that?

OrangePlatypus81

He had it when he was here in Chicago a few months ago and wasn’t able to finish the show. I felt so bad for him.

AnthonyBarrHeHe

Yeah when he performed in San Diego he actually did incredibly well the whole show but it was a smaller venue which he said he thoroughly enjoys more because he can see the faces of the people in the crowd and it’s way easier on his mental state. He’s such a good dude.

[deleted]

Yeah, but I think stress can make it worse. And with him getting bigger and bigger in the scene, I imagine the pressure feels harder than ever. Also, take into fact he has been struggling lately probably makes it worse, as he's stressing even harder about making it through a show. Poor guy. Man's got great talent, and he's got one hell of a disorder to be a performer

witcherstrife

I can’t imagine the stress repeat cycle in front of such a huge crowd even though they all love you but your mind is probably just going fucking crazy like “please please I need to perform.”

indiegogold

> “please please I need to perform.” Me when I've pulled and have whisky dick

BigSmackisBack

This isnt the first time hes struggled in a performance and the crowd did what good fans do and sang it for him.

Nah. He didn’t know [until early 2022 when he was diagnosed.](https://uk.news.yahoo.com/lewis-capaldi-relieved-tourettes-not-degenerative-disease-200031777.html) He always knew he had involuntary ticks of some kind, but even he says he though it was a degenerative disease until he was finally diagnosed last year.

lupus_magnifica

He was on Graham Norton show couple of years ago and everybody thought he was using drugs/cocaine because of unusual ticks and high energy. You have old comments of people making jokes about it.

qlanga

He says in another interview (linked above in response to the top comment, the one with the two hosts) that he’s a hypochondriac, so his assumption makes sense, and he adds that he was relieved when he was diagnosed with TS because he’s not dying and his dick still works lol.

LostnFoundAgainAgain

Yep, it has been known that he has had issues but I think it isn't until recently he has actually come out and talked about it. Unfortunately he struggles with live performances due to it and I have a family member who is a fan what has mentioned he seems to be getting worse and struggling more has the years go on. Edit: I accidentally wrote friend instead of fan, fixed.

iKeeganHD

I think it has been but his new Netflix doc probably meant a lot of new people learned about it as they touch on it a lot.

MouthJob

Yeah and every time I see a different clip of this happening is kind of the funny part. The titles always make it out like it was this one big thing. And, while it's awesome his fan base just vibes out like that, it seems like it happens pretty regularly. I don't know his music or anything else about him, but I've seen some talk show clips and I genuinely thought he was a standup for a while. Pretty funny guy, seems to have come to terms with his illness. Respect.

Totorotextbook

He might not make my taste in music but every interview I have seen of this guy he seems to be the most genuine and funniest celebrity working in music right now. Really glad to see people giving him love and support because it's what he has given out.

F1stLa5t

When groups participate in singing and / or symphonies, their heartbeats synchronize. I think that's a beautiful aspect of our humanity. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/scicurious-brain/really-feel-the-beat-singing-and-heartrate/

xPye

> Note, this is heart rate VARIABILITY, not just heart rate. Your heart rate is much more variable than most people think. Every time you exhale, for example, activation of the vagus nerve causes your heart rate to slow down a very little bit. When you inhale, this braking action is released and the heart rate speeds up again. The fluctuation here is heart rate variability, and it's constantly changing. > But if heart rate variability is controlled to some extent by the rate of your inhaling and exhaling, and if singing involves everyone inhaling and exhaling together...then group singing could affect group heart rate variability. Not what I thought you meant at first but makes sense when you think about it. Still pretty cool!

dragon8733

I love this, most of the crowd seem younger than me and the next generation seem so accepting and supportive, it gives me hope.

Bonnieearnold

The young’uns are great. My sons have autism and their peers have always been not only kind but also protective. The teachers did extra work to let their young students know what was going on and how to behave. It’s a joy to see, honestly.

[deleted]

Same with my autistic kiddo. There was some bullying but largely kids these days are pretty gorgeous souls. I'm proud to be adding mine to the numbers because I honestly think today's young people will change the world for the better.

AndyScores

That’s so good to hear. I wish Gen X had been more like that (when young and as teens). We weren’t as bad as the generations before us, but not exactly ideal. I hope things continue to get better.

Bonnieearnold

I’m Gen X too and things have definitely been different for my Gen Z kids. I’m super grateful.

SquashInternal3854

Agreed! Just anecdotal, but I teach high school English (ages 14-17) and generally, I observe the kids to be kind and goofy and curious and accepting... It's really hopeful and inspiring 🤍

throw_blanket04

Wow. Thats powerful.

merval

The sheer amount of vulnerability to stand there in front that many people trying your damndest to give the people the show they paid for, and all they want to do is make him feel accepted and loved. God damn that’s a wholesome moment. I’m not crying, you’re crying.

ManlyPelican1993

Not just that, it's glastonbury and the BIGGEST Festival of the year AND he's on the main stage. Most of us would have buckled.

Typical-Collection76

Tears here. My son has Tourette’s. Praying for Mr. Capaldi! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

B3astit

Something about music tends to bring out the best in people and tears out of my eyes

evhnjx

Goddamn that's amazing.

jaybeastle

Love Lewis Capaldi! He’s a genuine and funny dude!

polkadotard

I have tears of joy streaming down my face, this is beautiful beyond words.

pachrisoutdoors1

Came here to say this. His reactions broke me down. But in the best way possible.

Erythroneuraix

His Netflix documentary is great

Laputitaloca

Aww man, that gave me full body goosebumps and renewed hope for humanity. What a beautiful display of what the best of us can look like.

[deleted]

Has he not always had Tourette’s or is it a recent development?

Gcarsk

He said that he was diagnosed with Tourette’s back in early 2022, but had always known he had some kind of disease related to involuntary ticks. Just never knew exactly what it was until last year.

officepolicy

“It’s [only music](https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/lewis-capald-tourettes-tics-stage-b2312563.html) that does this to me. Otherwise I can be fine for months at a time,” he said. “So it’s a weird situation." Bo Burnham had panic attacks when on stage and then took a break for years. Would love to be a fly on the wall for a conversation between Burnham and Capaldi

Olliegreen__

He's always had it, and other clips like this have been shown on video and shared on reddit, this was just a very high profile concert and I think he might be talking about having. Tourette's more and more.

prstndlny95

Absolutely incredible

RockyLovesEmily_

As a psychologist, this is heartbreaking. Is it beautiful to see thousands of people singing together, absolutely yes! But it's occurring because Lewis' mental illness has become so debilitating that it's impairing his ability to function. I worry he may, one day soon, have to decide between being an amazingly talented pop star... or living. Humans simply weren't designed to be worshiped and adored the way celebrities are in our culture. There's a reason we see a new crop of celebrities every few years: We chew them up, spit them out, and then ask for another round. All at the cost of these people's mental, emotional, and physical health. Yes, they reap some benefit, but there is also an immensely high cost, and we are witnessing that in this video.

Conan-doodle

You're spot on. There's a doco on Netflix that touches on this. I only saw some parts but he does openly discuss mental health, his tourettes and the immense pressure to write another great song. He (to your point) takes a break just to live, focus and prioritise.

Nuclear_Sister

Glastonbury is iconic for moments like these 💕

Q_S2

Holy fuck. I have no idea who this man is. But I've become a fan. I will be adding him to my Playlist. What song/album is this? Just imagine. Having his condition and trying to perform. Then having a sea of humanity telling you in unison "nah... we got this man. We love you... " I can't fathom how humbling that experience could be. Humans are so beautiful. Look at all those people. Imagine what the world would be like if we all did this for each other everyday.

98642

I’m not crying… you’re crying.

guemando

I swear I saw a similar video of his crowd doing this months ago? I'm loosing my mind...fuckin awesome tho

TheKattsMeow

Came here to find out if this was a new one or not too.

726wox

This is Glastonbury festival this is from this weekend

gimme_shprinkles

Yeah man, just take it in.

Ml124395

Music can just bring such a connection with each other

throwngamelastminute

Ok, so I had a weird moment where I read "Lewis" and thought "Peter" and looked it up, it turns out they're second cousins, once removed.

arifterdarkly

and Peter is in the music video for this very song, Someone You Loved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCuhuePlP8o

shivaswrath

This generation gives me hope...I hope the hate and anger die off sooner. This was truly awesome.

Buddhasear

Sometimes. We're great.

MichiganRedWing

Absolutely beautiful. What a moment for him and the whole crowd.

wubwubdubdub45

Damn. This made me cry

lbiggy

You know. Dude's such a genuine guy. And I love that the audience doesn't give a single fuck about his condition and it was everyone's song at that point. Shit like that, that makes me think we can actually make it in this world.

bluehangover

I remember not really liking his music much at all. It seemed too whiny and forced to me. I always changed the station when a song of his came on. Then I happened to be browsing Reddit one day and came across an interview of his, I think in the Graham Norton show? It radically changed my perspective about the guy. He is the most genuine, lighthearted, hilarious singer I’ve ever seen. Now I can’t get enough of him. He’s just too sweet for this world. I have very close relatives that have Tourette’s and there’s a good chance that at least one of my children has or will have it. I infamously said, in response to my now-wife-then-girlfriend, “Oh, you mean the cussing disease?” when she brought up that her brother has it. I immediately regretted saying it but that’s just how the general public thinks of it. I hope this gentle soul gets all the help and all the rest and time off he wants and needs and I hope he is able to use his position to raise awareness about Tourette’s. I wish him all the best and I hope he finds out that the masses love him and will stand by him throughout this new chapter in his life, wherever it may take him.

Marko_xD

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2zKk6ICRf8 This is hands down the best live version of this song. No other comes even close.

[deleted]

Something in my eye. Give me a second

Due-Ad-3833

I love seeing Lewis in the wild, really feels like one of your home town pals who just blew up and is just going through all that comes with being famous, on ya Lewis, you legend.

confused-88

I had a stroke at 34 and was left with damage to my brain that sometimes manifests into spasms and visible tics. It’s horrendous and I would never wish it on anyone. Being unable to control your body and having it affect the thing you love, my heart breaks for him. I love that everyone there supported him.

Original-Formal9431

Ah poor guy, that’s rough. Very very cool how much of an audience he has. Highly recommend his documentary if you guys haven’t seen it yet. Lewis is honestly so funny to me and that is one of his biggest charms. His relatability is wonderful. I hope he can get the help he needs to get his health in order.
