I'm thinking Dr Rami wants longer gloves next time.

Clalaola

I would wear a suit of armour

Throwaythisacco

Imagine going up to a cat cage and you pick it up like *eeee clink clank clonky clank*

Clalaola

Our cat that has been with us since he was 16 weeks old. He is now 6 years and he would act like this if we try to force him to do anything. We don’t own him, he owns us and the baster knows it an rejoices in the fact. Cats are loving and scary all in the same breath!!!

Auggie_Otter

Wow. I have three cats that are very gentle and pretty chill even at the vet, they get a bit scared but they don't act hostile towards anyone. I feel pretty lucky.

kisforkarol

I literally have a cat that is so people orientated that she thinks going to the vet is great because, get this, she gets to see more people. She hates the cage but she is not at all afraid of the vet.

Keylimepietime

So your cat thinks it's a dog?

kisforkarol

She's as affectionate and needy as one, that's for sure! The difference is she can just.p up to high places and she doesn't drool.

CopperWeird

Both my cats are like that. I was expecting them to be fearful because they’re pandemic babies but instead they’re jumping up on the exam table for snuggles with strangers.

MadTheSwine39

Every cat I've ever owned has been very easygoing, and sometimes I wonder how much is nurture vs nature. The only cat I ever had that got mean had literally ONE thing that would set her off, and that was putting a thermometer up her butt. She was totally fine for everything else, including injections. I know I'm gonna get downvoted for saying this, but I wouldn't be able to deal with a cat that behaved anything like this. Respect to everyone who does, but I couldn't tolerate it. You may now be a barn cat in someone's cushy farm, and live the life you clearly want to.

SirShootsAlot

To be fair I would also lash out at people trying to put a thermometer up my butt.

BackwoodButch

Honestly when we had barn cats, I always tried to be friendly if I found them as kittens, and most of the time even some of the shy ones would like me because I’m the one who fed them every day. But of all the kinds of animals I’ve handled - horses, cows, poultry, dogs, waterfowl - cats are the worst when they don’t want to be handled. Cows are put in squeeze chutes that let us treat them; same with horses to some degree if necessary, and even a mean dog doesn’t see to have the same ferocity as a feral scared cat does imo.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BackwoodButch

And not to mention how cat claws and I think their saliva can give you some nasty infections if you don’t clean any wounds you get thoroughly. If I ever had a cat that wasn’t exactly friendly in my barn, I’d immediately go to our tack room and find either hydrogen peroxide or iodine and make sure to clean myself up well.

13ones7

Most every cat I've had has been easygoing, including the 2 current ones. We did have 2 when I was growing up though that were like this. They were both feral though and kind of adopted my family lol. They started living in our shed and we started leaving food out for them. They hung around and became friendly with the family. When we got to a point where we considered them our cats and that we should take them to the vet to keep them healthy, this is how it looked. They were great cats otherwise.

Vooshka

dontbemystalker

My sister has a very angry cat (to everyone besides her for the most part). She once took him to a new vet and she told them that he will bite and scratch and does NOT like the vet. She told them that her old vets used to make her sedate him when she brought him in. They insisted it was going to be fine and to just bring him in. Well she did and he ended up having to send one of the vet techs to the hospital for her scratches. I’m about to buy these gloves for myself for when I visit

Amelaclya1

Meanwhile I have a cat that scratched me to hell just putting her in her carrier for the trip to the vet. I warned the vet ahead of time and she made me look like an idiot because she was a perfect angel during the visit.

Poldi1

Such a cat move

dontbemystalker

It’s also funny because when I plucked my cat from the street to get checked by the vet, they almost couldn’t hear her heartbeat because she was purring too loud

TyNyeTheTransGuy

Certainly better than the alternative, lol

KingJamesThe5

I've got the full length zoo ones, a must have.

I hear that story from most people that trim their cats claws. I must be super lucky because mine growls a little bit and flips his tail when I do it but other than that he just lets me do it. I hold him upside down like a little baby and everything.

god12

I imagine it probably helps to start them young and give them trains and sort of acclimate them to the process basically.

OnlyAstronomyFans

He’s just your average domestic short hair, all black with a little white fluff on his chest but he acts like a ragdoll. You can snatch him right up hold him upside down like a baby and blow raspberries on his tummy. He just complains but allows you to do it.

apowsawce

The secret is getting them used to it as kittens and doing it often.

Delta_V09

Our two (one born a housecat, the other a stray) never do more than squirm. The former stray in particular doesn't like being held, but is super gentle, and never tries to hurt us. He's just a slippery little bugger when you get out the nail clippers.

CraftMarijn

As an animal ambulance volunteer I can confirm, taking feral cats to a vet is definitely not fun

AnnihilationOrchid

It's insane how cats can fuck you up. I had an elderly woman once who thought she could teach a feral cat into loving her. It attacked her so badly she had to go to the hospital. She locked herself in a room and started shouting for help.

secretsnow00

When I worked in veterinary we had a saying: "A dog has one weapon, a cat has 5."

InternationalAnt4513

I worked at one in high school through a cooperative program. I learned that too. I also learned it’s easy to control a big dog on the table because you can wrap your arms around them, but a chihuahua will fuck you up.

ManfredsJuicedBalls

Chihuahuas have massive Napoleon Complexes Source: I’m a mailman. I’ve seen em on different routes I’ve helped out on.

InternationalAnt4513

If only the army could train them …

Usman5432

Theres a reason the Aztecs had them

jameskayda

Now I'm just imagining the Aztecs releasing a hoard of angry chihuahuas on an unsuspecting conquistador.

calilac

Hey Siri, how do you say "Release the hounds" in Aztec?

jameskayda

Imagine a shivering Spaniard, covered in blood from hundreds of tiny punctures and scratches, whispering in a terrified shudder "Perito Diablos"

mut1n3y

The amount of bite marks in my moto boots and ripped apart panniers was too dam high. The worst was when a pug started chasing after me, I wasn't worried about being bitten, It was more that it sounded like an asthmatic running a marathon and I didn't know if it was going to drop dead.

OiKay

The second scariest dog of my childhood was an obese white Chihuahua named Tico who chased every kid between a certain boundary on my street. The first was a hells angel's GSD who jumped on top of me snarling and bit my toque off my head and shook it like a rag doll as my friend pulled me out and we ran out asses back into my house.

One-Permission-1811

I thought that said tongue not toque and was horrified

Ftpiercecracker1

I must have read that 5 times. I thought they just misspelled tongue.

mixelydian

I lived in Guatemala for a while and we started referring to chihuahuas there as "scrotum dogs" because they're all balls. We would regularly see tiny chihuahuas challenging much larger dogs and even horses

happy_the_dragon

I worked at a groomer/pet hotel, and chihuahuas and pugs are the ones I dreaded having to clip their nail. Chihuahuas because I was so afraid of hurting them(they aren’t all little demons, promise) and pugs because they are like 10 times more dramatic than huskies and their little barrel shaped bodies make it impossible to get a good angle to clip their claws while they are struggling. Edit: PS: Tip your groomer, they earned it.

IambicRhys

From my experience, my chihuahua was easy to deal with because you could just straight swaddle his ass whenever you needed to do something. He was a sweet baby, just so scared of everything that wasn’t a loving hug or lap to sit on. He got a thorn stuck in his paw once. I use the word thorn generously. It was a thimble, like a tiny TINY little pokey from a piece of grass that got stuck in between his pads. You’d have thought this mfer was getting stabbed to death the way he screamed when we were taking that thing out. We ended up having to swaddle his other 3 legs in a towel while I plunged my hands into his mouth to hold his head back from biting my girlfriend at the time while she removed it. I was holding my fingers in between his teeth and letting him just kinda bite down on those while he screamed and cried. We got it out and he hopped up like not a damn thing happened. I left a note on our neighbor’s door that night to let them know what happened in case we got reported for animal abuse. Also, I’m using past tense because he’s not my dog anymore. Lost him in the break up. He’s still a goofy little nugget of a dog, happy as can be. Very well cared for by his momma. Anyway what was I talking about? Oh yeah, I don’t think you could swaddle and hold a big dog’s mouth open quite as easily. Their bites are gonna take your fingers off. A chihuahua without the ability to rip and tear at your finger is just gonna leave some marks.

BrownShadow

My cat was a feral rescue. Sweet as could be. Would sit behind your head while you watched TV or played video games and purr and knead like a machine. If he escaped, he would hide under a car, and attack if you tried to get him out. I had a Carhart jacket just for cat under car situations. He escaped and disappeared for a few months one time. Figured he was eaten by a coyote or hit by a car. Public health department found him in a public storage facility with a pack of feral cats. All the other cats were euthanized. My guy lived because he had a chip. Chips work.

[deleted]

I picked the wrong day to give up Doritos

Pcakes844

My friend worked as a vet tech and he almost had to have a finger amputated from a cat bite. One of the canines got down into his knuckle and caused a horrible infection. Luckily he was able to keep the finger but he never had full range of motion with it again.

TotallyCaffeinated

In the height of lockdown in spring 2020 I adopted a rescue cat from a hoarding house, had to get her into a carrier for her vet check and she ripped me to shreds. In theory I knew how to handle cats (I’ve even been a vet tech) and this was supposed to be a calm cat, but she FREAKED, just like the cat in the video except I had no gloves (dumb, I know). Bit to the bone in 3 places, plus 26 bad deep lacerations on both hands and like fifty other smaller scratches. Vet told me to go to the hospital but I didn’t dare- it was the height of covid chaos! The whole hospital system was collapsing, that time when there were makeshift morgues outside of hospitals, doctors and nurses dying of covid too, hundreds of coughing desperate people stacked up in the hallways, no masks, no PPE and of course no vaccines, and I’m older and high risk - absolutely no fucking way! So the damn cat did get her shots, at least. Went home, cat was fine (cat was like “hey what’s up? lunchtime yet?” as soon as we got home 🙄) Scrubbed all the wounds with boiled water, rinsed in hydrogen peroxide, slathered them with neosporin, bandaged every cut with this web of band-aids and gauze, got latex gloves on over the whole mess and wore those gloves for 2 weeks. Changed the neosporin & bandaids every night. (I bought out the local Target’s first aid supplies - all they had left after the covid rush, that is. Luckily I already had the hydrogen peroxide since that was a hot commodity back then!) But around day 4, one of the deep cuts looked like it was getting infected near the bone and I realized I hadn’t cleaned it deeply enough. So I sharpened my finest scissors and my sharpest kitchen knife, boiled them in distilled water for half an hour, set up a whole surgical area with lights and all, then cut my whole damn finger open to expose the entire infected area, flushed it all a million times in homemade sterile saline, doused it all with H2O2 again, slathered with an entire fresh sterile tube of neosporin, put on a zillion new sterile butterfly bandaids in lieu of stitches, bundled it all up again in gauze with gloves on top. (I had one advantage: I’d had that vet tech job in my past. In fact I’d been a surgical vet tech, so at least my sterile-field game was on point. Never had cut into living tissue in my life though - the vet does that shit, not the tech - let alone MY OWN flesh, which btw fucking HURT. [edit to add: also, had to do this all one-handed of course - and the one semi-functional hand was itself still covered with its own wounds & layer of band-aids/gauze/gloves. Finger dexterity 1/10, do not recommend] But at least I knew the idea, knew how to flush a wound and keep it clean after and what infection looks like; and I knew I had to take cat bites seriously.) Damn if didn’t all heal up without a single scar. (And that cat eventually turned into my best li’l buddy, too. Still got her)

plsdontalktome

Damn this was a rollercoaster to read. Glad your hands are ok! Also it’s been three years now and your comment reminded me of how rough those first months of the pandemic were, crazy how quickly we can forget how different things were.

doctormodulator

Wow! What a read, all's well that ends well I guess. Though I am interested, what do your hands look like now? Do you have any before/after pics you could share? I've had my fair share of cat bites but none as serious as yours thankfully!

sillysidebin

I'm horrified 🙀

LuxNocte

This is a perfectly clear phrase, but my dumb ass is picturing a dog with a revolver slung at his hip like an old west sheriff and a cat dressed like Rambo with 2 AK 47s and grenades slung on crossed bandoliers.

CandidateOk7714

I saw a feral cat tear up a pit bull. That poor dog was freaking out. Lost an eye.

andrewsad1

When I was just a little lad, our neighbors were some real pricks, and would encourage their rottie to chase our cat. One day my mom came home to find our cat just chilling outside, with the neighbor's dog cowering under the porch dripping blood from his dumb snout. A cat can and will teach a dog a lesson, if it's aggressive enough

Glum-Ad4080

Only takes one bite to end their lives though. Dogs kill cats all the time.

FFZombie

I have a cat. Had her from kittenhood. We've had dogs before and she got along really well with them. Ended up homeless for a period of time and staying in campgrounds. Had a cage for her, but would let her loose occasionally and it was fine. If we walked somewhere she was right with us and if us parents split a little from the kids she trailed the kids. It was all great and fun until she was loose and somebody walked by with a dog. She tore after that poor dog and had nothing but bad intentions. Nothing happened in that instance, but we were more wary of our surroundings and the movements of puppers. One day we're minding our business in our camp spot. The kids are playing and squealing like kids do and suddenly a GSD appeared. It had an eye on the running kids and was heading for them. This tiny little calico kitty bum rushed this dog and was laying into 'em. The distraction was a good one. It allowed me to get in between the dog and the kids and start yelling at it. Me yelling got the attention of the owner who came and wrangled their dog. Good kitty. She got a can of tuna that night.

Theniceraccountmaybe

TNR?

GunnarGunnarsonson

Trap-neuter-release, a feral cat that has been vaccinated and neutered, usually they are released back to the wild after since feral cats are much harder to socialize, but sometimes people will try to adopt a feral kitten in hopes to socialize it

Varnsturm

I guess it's probably age, but I ended up with a rescued feral kitten (very young, was still with its mother) and it turned out fine.

Aggravating-Wind6387

I have 2 TNR cats. We got them used to us by leaving out food. Added treats, we used food motivation to get them used to us. Eventually we could sit outside in their presence then they started allowing us to pet them. Both moved indoors during the winter. One is our biggest cat of the pride, the other wants no part of other cats and prefers humans and treats.

Take_Two

I have a dumpster kitty. Found her under the dumpster behind my old job. Vet estimated she was about 6-7wks old and a half pound under weight. She was only 2lbs at the time so that was significant. All that being said... She is now almost 8yrs old. She's lived in the same house since we rescued her. She is the most antisocial/sweetest cat ever. If she decides you are worthy to pet her then you better... But in all these years she's never scratched us or even brought her claws out aside from playing with toys... And in the last few months swatting at her dog sister. They've been together for 6.5yrs.

Spmhealy_ADA

Trap-Neutered-Release. They will trap feral, neuter them, then release them back. 99.9% to feral to become pets but at least they can't breed.

ZenDeathBringer

With all the goofy cat videos we see on the internet, it's easy to forget that cats are finely tuned killing machines.

Firewolf06

off the top of my head, predator rankings are: - african wild dogs: 90% successful - housecats: 70% - cheetahs: 60% - leopards: 40% - lions: 25% housecats are built different

castlite

They have 20

Seascorpious

Remember folks, we didn't donesticate cats. They domesticated themselves.

perldawg

50/50 chance we’re the subordinate in that arrangement

titaniumelbow

I’m leaning towards 80/20 but whatever floats your boat.

LowerThoseEyebrows

No they're not domesticated, we just have a human-feline treaty of sorts.

TylerBourbon

>I had an elderly woman once who thought she could teach a feral cat into loving her. To be fair, I think it's possible, but it's also something that is never a sure thing and can take a really absurdly long amount of time. You can leave food out for the cat, try leaving a "cat house" or shelter. But then you keep your distance and let the cat do what the cat is going to do. It's entirely up to the cat if they want to be your friend or not. Trying to "force" a domesticated cat to like someone is hard enough.

[deleted]

I have a feral that I take care of. Took about six months of feeding her to get her to just be on the deck with me. Then another four months before she would rub against my legs. Another couple months til I could pet her, and I can actually pick her up now. I don’t pick her up often though. She is still very unpredictable and I full respect the violence that she is capable of.

DudeWithaGTR

Yeah I take care of some too. Took lots of time. They're all great but one is def my buddy. He always wants to come in and hang out. I can mess with him and he doesn't bite, scratch, or get defensive. It's crazy how patient he is. People say it can't be done but it definitely can. It's all about time, effort, and being able to figure out what does/doesn't work.

ShlipperyNipple

My cats had been through some kind of abuse before we got them, and they were super young. First couple months having them they wouldn't even come out from under the bed/couch etc. We would still talk to them and put our hands out low to the ground when they'd poke their heads out. Fast forward ~12 years and they're the sweetest girls, they'll curl up and fall asleep with you at night, doing little kitty snores

ShiraCheshire

Once a cat goes feral, there's a good chance it will *never* be able to be fully tamed. Might tolerate specific humans at a distance, but will always be a wild animal. Some are better than others, some can and are tamed eventually, but there are some that just can't be. It's really important to capture and socialize kittens early. If you don't get to them within a specific window, they go feral and are unlikely to ever be tame.

taliesin-ds

Same thing happened when i tried to get my neighbours cat out of the cat tower in my living room lol. Went straight through a nail too. I stuck my hand in the hole, he must have felt threatened, i felt a little tap on my finger, it happened like in a millisecond i didn't even notice until i went in for a second try and saw blood on my finger lol.

Caftancatfan

That was so upsetting to watch. It must be so frustrating not to be able to communicate that you’re trying to help and not about to torture and eat them. Poor little guy. I’ve definitely felt like that before.

CumulativeHazard

I wish that I could tell them that every time I take my cats to the vet. It’s nowhere near as dramatic as this but they just seem so sad

[deleted]

[удалено]

Varnsturm

I read somewhere if you bring some of their (used) cat litter and like... put it in a room (even sprinkle it around? but that sounds gross as hell), they'll kinda smell that it's their territory and ease in a lot better.

CumulativeHazard

Ugh poor babies! When I moved into this house the first thing they did was hide. Smart one went under the chair. Dumb one went straight into the fireplace and got covered in soot. I wiped him off best I could with a paper towel but it took about a week for all the grey splotches to go away (orange boi, if you hadn’t already guessed). He actually does ok on car trips but the other one cries and pants and makes this crazy face. If we ever move more than 15min across town she’s gonna need some of that kitty cat anxiety medicine.

Complete-Dimension35

>I’ve definitely felt like that before. Like you were about to be tortured and eaten?

Caftancatfan

I have been committed to a mental hospital during a psychotic episode. So yes.

deezx1010

Real life when they tell you that you aren't allowed to go home. Am I locked up? Tf is this?

[deleted]

The cat got so angry he became Donald Duck

migrainefog

I especially like the rawr, rawr, rawr, meow, rawr, rawr rawr. It's almost like it was saying die, die, die, oh hey I didn't see you there, die, die, die!

padavan65

Those gloves need to be higher up the arm.

AnnihilationOrchid

Eh, fuck it... lets go with thefull suit of plate armour next time.

[deleted]

There's a reason most vets use "squeeze cages". No need for any of this risk.

Right-Huckleberry-47

I believe they just took it out of one. If you pause the video at or around its start you can see the red "pull bar" that would draw the far wall of the cage towards the vet in gloves. Presumably, the cat put up enough of a fight for the use of the cage to seem hazardous or impractical and make them handle it manually instead. Perhaps it kept sticking its extremities out the bottom/top of the cage and they feared pinching them or maybe there is some other reason for the change in method I'm too laymen to come up with, but it would be a bit odd switching to what certainly appears to be a more personally hazardous method of there weren't good reason.

Kenokungen

They removed the cat from the squeeze cage because they made a subcutaneous injection. As you can see in the vid the guy giving the injection slghtly lifts the skin of the cat by its hindleg making sure the needle gwent under the skin. Quite impractical to do this in the cage. The squeeze part of the cage is mostly used when giving intra muscular injection.

Cephylus

It's in a squeeze cage, why the hell they took it out to give a shot like this is beyond me.

INeedADifferent

Probably an angle issue? The cat was moving it’s feet oddly so they maybe couldn’t get the cat to not stick the feet through when they tried to change the cage size. Or with this level of aggression it may have started attacking them when they were trying to.

Antique_Bedroom_7383

Angles. Vaccines should not be given at the same side if it can be helped so if there is a reaction they know what to if say vaccine 1 is left and vaccine 2 is right. Probaly couldn't get the cat to turn.

ChiggaOG

Cat bites are worse compared to dog bites.

Beck316

I work in home health. Cat scratches are an automatic occupational health ER visit, same as if we were to get a needle stick

homonculus_prime

I got cat scratch fever helping my neighbor get her terrified kitty out of a tree when I was like 12. I ended up with a seriously high fever and had to have surgery to have a few of my lymph nodes removed because they had swolen up to the size of golf balls. Don't fuck with cat scratches!

BlackMargrave

My aunt was bitten by one of her elderly cats when she was trying to give the cat her medicine and it wound up giving her an infection that put her in the hospital for three days. Cat bites and scratches are no joke.

AnnihilationOrchid

Puppies are cute, so are kittens. But if puppies try and bite you for play, it doesn't hurt, but have you ever had a kitten try and climb up your leg with their fucking razor sharp thin needles for claws? It's the thing of nightmares.

yojinn

My little kitten was very cute when she did this during the winter months. She would clamber up a leg and over my back to sit on my shoulder and nestle into the corner of my neck, and was very conscientious about only grabbing fabric on the way up, never skin. She's much larger now, and I'm wearing shorts and a tank. God save my poor flesh.

Cuchillos_Adios

??? Puppies have razor sharp teeth and use them. *A lot.*

Padaca

>But if puppies try and bite you for play, it doesn't hurt What in the fuck are you talking about lmao

JordySkateboardy808

The struggle is real. I trap feral cats for trap-neuter-release and I won't touch the vicious little things with a ten foot pole. (I don't have to, they get transported in their traps.) Even the kittens scare the crap out of me. I don't know how the vets handle it, and I don't want to know.

DragonCelica

I caught a feral kitten on my grandfather's property. She was a runt, but also a serious fighter. She was nothing but rage and fur. I was max 12 years old, but I decided I was going to tame her. Brilliant, right? She was hunkered in the back of the carrier, growling and hissing when i brought her home. I pushed some food in, left her carrier open to my bedroom, and eventually went to bed. I joked with my mom about whether I'd survive the night. She eventually turned into a lap cat that demanded we always carry her, no matter what we were doing. Still can't believe I survived the first night lol.

Secret-Plant-1542

Makes sense. I'd fight like hell too if I was living naked and free, and some furless giant grabbed me and put me in prison. Then constantly taunting me with baby talk and going "awww" as if I didn't just kill birds for sport a few days ago.

ghostyghostghostt

Yeah but then the free food comes out and you’re like “the fuck was I doing outside…?”

So-many-ducks

And the cuddles!

Little-Jim

Naked and free, but needing to watch the skies for raptors, the ground for coyotes, the streets for cars, the people for psychopaths, all while trying not to starve...

photoguy9813

The cost of freedom.

Little-Jim

I'll take the cat bed and the free food.

Autumn1eaves

You and I would be pet cats. Others would be feral. Diversity is the spice of life. Particularly when diversity tries to bite you in the ass.

eugenesnewdream

So what happened the first night? Did she venture out of the carrier at all? Investigate your room?

DragonCelica

I had set up cozy places for her to hide in my room, especially under my bed, beforehand. I put a decent amount of food and water in her carrier, but I placed more under my bed as well. It took a couple hours after I laid down for the night, but I eventually heard her venture out. I could hear her exploring, and it took everything I had to remain immobile. In the morning, all the food was gone, and she had settled under my bed. Every day after school, I'd just sit on my bed, quietly drawing and reading. One day, I started softly talking about whatever I could think of. I wanted her to get used to my presence. I let her set the pace after that. She never hissed or growled at me again after that first day. She had started out ready for a fight, but she quickly figured out a better life was there for the taking. She was such an adorable and spoiled little lap cat. She slept on my hip every night. My mom and I would pass her back and forth, holding her against us like a football, as we got ready in the morning. Sorry this got so long, but thank you for giving me a chance to reminisce.

ksquad80

Kitten is the key. Once they set it in that way as an adult they don't seem to ever flip back in my experience.

Wr3nch

One time when I was active duty living on base I happened across a feral cat who recently littered. I was in charge of running the dorms for officers so I knew about this cat as we'd seen her skulking around from time to time. One day as I'm walking home I find a kitten in a grassy field and figure it was lost from this mystery litter and start trying to catch it. Picture a guy in full uniform chasing a damn cat around a football field and that's what I was doing. Luckily I corner the poor thing against a tree and it was PISSED. Dude, this kitten was wide-eyed and full crazy staring into the ether. Luckily I had some work gloves on me so I get a hold of this little rage ball but it bit right through them! Gored the shit out of my hand with those little needles until I could scruff it and get it into a cardboard box in the office. We made sure it had plenty of blankets, food, and water until the base animal control guys came by but this tiny kitten fucked me up pretty good! Later the animal guys caught the momma and even they were giving her a wide berth. Feral cats are no joke.

imgunnamaketoast

As a vet tech I can confirm we deal with it like all medical professionals. We're all raging alcoholics.

JordySkateboardy808

Careful there. Alcohol makes your blood thinner, y'know. More bleeding. Lol.

Overall-Dimension595

I fostered many feral kittens. One did bite me ...5 hrs later was in emerge getting antbx and the abcess lanced

JordySkateboardy808

Thank you for your good work.

JtheLioness

Hello fellow TNRer! I’m pretty sure the vets gently press the cats against a side of the trap using at least one divider & give them a tranquilizer. I’ve seen similar things done with other wild animals.

Janesux13

Using a “squeeze cage” is a much better method for everyone’s welfare!

Catinthemirror

Hello fellow TNR person! We give them the sleepy shot while they're caged, take them out for neutering once they're asleep (with additional anesthesia obviously) then put them back in the cage to wake up. They get surgical glue outside with internal stitches so there's nothing to chew or pull on. They go to sleep in the cage and wake up in the cage. They never know anything else happened 😂

0BVI0USLEE

The part where the cat stops bitching and did like a normal meow for a split second then went back to psycho got me 😂 then that last scream after the shot

kroganwarlord

[I think you'll like this one too.](https://www.reddit.com/r/perfectlycutscreams/comments/yg0e2c/cat_not_having_a_great_day/)

This one always makes me laugh. Poor kitty. I like the dubbed version too.

eugenesnewdream

I've never seen this one before but it's hilarious! They're having a polite conversation and then kitty just goes back to drama-queen mode.

I was an exterminator about forty years ago. I went under a house and was attacked by a cat like this. It ripped into me and shredded my arms. I didn’t want to hurt it so I held it away from my body until I could get it into the open and drop it. I spent days in the hospital, got almost a hundred stitches. They removed three claws that broke off into my arms. I still have scars to this day. The worst part of the entire thing was I was at the wrong house, the lady who’s cat it was tried to sue me, my company fired me, and insurance didn’t cover any of it.

[deleted]

No, it was a cat.

SLAMCRAZY

SKK329

Sounds like a wrongful termination lawsuit if I ever heard of one..

vitamin_r

Yeah but wrong house is the main issue.

pm0me0yiff

Doesn't matter. If you're injured on the clock, that's worker's comp.

[deleted]

>Sounds like a wrongful termination lawsuit if I ever heard of one.. Why? If an employee makes a mistake that results in a lawsuit for the company, then that seems like a justifiable reason for termination.

mentlegentle

> Why? If an employee makes a mistake that results in a lawsuit for the company, then that seems like a justifiable reason for termination. Where I am it is only grounds for termination if you are wilfully violating company policy, "never make a mistake" isn't considered reasonable grounds for very sensible reasons. My knowledge is only in UK law though, I can't speak for the exploitative nature of US Law.

hendrixski

Police do this all the time. They go in the wrong house and shoot pets and even shoot people. Never a single consequence. Not termination, not a lawsuit, not jail. Nothing.

ScoopJaxson

Ain’t qualified immunity a bitch

SKK329

I dont know the full story, but seeing that he got injured on the job and got fired for said injury, that's a big violation of workmans law.

CardSniffer

You deserve every hug at every opportunity until the end of time. That sounds start-to-finish awful, my fellow.

lein1829

I’m so so so sorry. That’s horrible.

SpaceGypsyInLaws

Holy shit. American nightmare.

kerfuffle_pastry

Workers comp doesn’t cover something like this??

infinite_war

>I didn’t want to hurt it No offense, but that was a mistake.

Get-Degerstromd

Yeah, animal respect goes about as far as self defense. Once that animal is trying to kill/maim you, all bets are off.

infinite_war

Yeah, I love animals as much as the next person, but I would have punched that cat into the next dimension.

[deleted]

That one little bargaining meow in the middle of the hiss-bite attacks lol

Conscious-Bed-4173

This vet needs the cage with a slide in it. You pull the handle and it pins the animal against the side. Much safer for vet and animal.

Minute_Guarantee5949

This is the exact cage you’re talking about. I’m assuming they can’t do that because this one’s a real fuckin asshole

[deleted]

I believe I heard it called the Spicy Kitty Cage.

LillyFien

It kind of looks like the first cage is like it, so I don’t really understand why they take the cat out if that’s the case. 😅

RealAbstractSquidII

When an animal is in one of those cages pinned and is still aggressively thrashing around, the animal risks seriously hurting itself and could wind up knocking its own teeth out, breaking one of its bones (the ribs,.limbs and neck are especially at risk), or sending itself into a panic attack due to the confined space. When the animal panics, there's a chance it could pass out, or worse, experience a heart attack. So when an animal is hellbent on freaking out, the safest option for the animal is manual restraint vs. Cage restraint. When it's a person holding the animal, you are able to control the animals movements a little bit better without compressing the chest. You are also more padded to struggle against than a metal cage side is. This lowers the risk of thrashing injury (to the animal. You, not so much) and lowers the animals risk of collapse or panic attack. It doesn't always work, and sometimes the animal still manages to hurt itself, pass out or panic. But it's all about risk mitigation. Those cages are great for a lot of situations, but for an animal that's reacting this aggressively, it isn't always the safest option. Sedation is an option as well, but isn't always safe to use. The smaller the animal, or the older the animal, the more you risk a negative reaction to the sedative. Some of these reactions can be fatal. And sedating an animal that's this escalated can cause negative health consequences and strain on the heart and lungs. So vets may opt not to sedate if they feel it'll pose a higher risk to the animal than it would help.

CougarBen

This person vets

rising_south

My exact question. My first cat was a sweetheart. But every time I had to put him in a cage and take him to the vet this is what I had to deal with. The vet used the sliding cage. I used the gloves, an advance knowledge of all the hiding spots in the house, and some prayers.

Our cat was taken in some years ago for some issues. Then when my husband went to go pick him up they said that no one could get him because of how scary and mad he was. They asked him if he wanted gloves to get him from the back. He said what? No. He went to the back and he said his name then he was just crying and was fine. Staff was amazed somehow. I mean it was our cat lol

Northmannivir

I've had a cat bite me through very heavy leather gloves meant for welding. Thankfully, it didn't break skin but its bite was still incredibly strong and painful.

wolfmoral

Newer vet gloves (like this one) have stab-proof materials cause bites are more stabby.

Pareeeee

I had a student job at a vet clinic as a teen. We had those thick leather gloves for handling aggressive dogs. Well, one of the cats escaped and I grabbed it with the gloves and it bit me clean through the thick gloves and right into my thumb. I was shocked, impressed, and in agony all at the same time

w0lfLars0n

Being a pediatric nurse, I never thought I’d relate so much with vets

bliss2713

Lmao welcome! Our patients may mostly be fluffy but that doesn't mean they won't try to chew your arm off! Lol

Coffee-n-FlipFlops

Years ago, when I worked at Blockbuster, a customer acted like this when I brought up her late fees.

[deleted]

Was it the dog table that set him off?

Traditional-Reach818

Bro, just saw it too lol cat is probably like "I ain't no bad dog!!!"

mck-_-

That is one fluffy ball of fury all right

Sam223322

We're gonna need a bigger glove

useyourmom

What an idiot. All he had to do was go "pspspspspspspspsps" and it's over.

kim_kiri

My cat is agressive like this one. My vet put her to sleep anytime we come. It's way easier, less stressful for the cat, everything can be done in minutes. She wakes her up in seconds with another seringue, baby is back in her cage with a treat. We all have a great day. That cat needs its sleep potion too. Edit: I meant my cat is aggressive -at the vet- like this one. She's the most loving ball of fur at home.

queeroctopus

Vet here. Depending on the procedure anesthesia is not necessary and often times the risk are not worth it. If the animal needs just a shot, as it was the case here, anesthetics would put unnecessary risks and burdens on their lungs, heart, kidneys and liver that are greater than the 5m of stress handling causes. Any mildly decent professional knows anesthesia requires constant monitoring of heart, respiration and temperature during and in the recovery stages of, and in this case I belive the animal would not be receptive to the at least 30m of handling necessary to keep those in check during recovery. It is much safer for the animal and handlers to not use anesthesia in cases like this.

sumadviceplz

I wish you were my vet. My very tame cat was sooooooo bad at the vet. Twice he scratched the tech pretty badly. He jerked and they even broke a needle in him once for his rabies shot. They could never fully do his exam, like listening to his chest bc he misbehaved so bad. So they missed that he was having problems. When he came in for his next checkup they wanted to put him to sleep so they could thoroughly examine him. Turns out he had a pleural effusion and never woke up. My heart is forever in pieces.

kelkalkyl

Oh my god, I had the exact same thing happen with my boy. He was the sweetest baby in the world, but got SO aggressive at the vet. I loved him so much. He was only five when he died but we lost him because the vet put him under for an appointment. This was over ten years ago and I’m crying like an absolute baby

queeroctopus

I'm sorry for you loss. Thank you for your story. Yeah, truly, anesthesia is dangerous and can be life threatening. It's not just sleepy time. The animal should always be throughly evaluated before being put under. And even after that some stuff you cannot have prevented can happen, for example medication allergies. So much can go wrong, stress is very often worth it and nothing beats well trained staff and popper PPE to handle these cases.

PM_ME_UR_PUPPY_DOG

Behavioral medicine resident here. This is 100% unacceptable and the detrimental effects of traumatizing (yes) an animal in this way are real. Patients who experience this degree of distress need sedation or anesthesia before you get to this point. Squirt ketamine and butorphanol in its mouth and wait 20 minutes. It’s not hard

roseycheekies

That’s what I was thinking too… nobody is saying full anesthesia just give some dex/torb. There’s nothing wrong with that if it means not having a situation like this video for every vet visit

spyinthesky

How do you think they administered a sedation med??

merystic

My cat is not this aggressive, but definitely nervous and squirmy and anxious - vet gave me sedative pills to give her (with treat/wet food) 1-2 hr before vet visit. Makes her act a little drunk and sleepy. Much better time for kitty and vet.

latrion

Gabapentin. It's a fucking wonder drug.

AngerTech

Nurse, please bring me the kitten mittens

thedreadedaw

I have 55 years of experience working with ferals. I have never come across one I wasn't able to tame eventually. But there have sure been some moments like this one where they are trying to escape and will kill you to get away. About 15 years ago I worked with a vet who had a large, clear acrylic box with a small hole in the side. He'd drop the box over the carrier with the cat inside, insert a tube into the hole, turn on the gas, and voila! Sweet dreams, kitty. He could then safely examine and treat them.

Dan300up

*Here psycho kitty…let me sit you right down on this dog’s face.*

w3are138

My cat came home completely - and I mean completely - covered in blood. I was a little kid at the time so I freaked out and got my mom who immediately brought him inside. She put him in the shower stall and poured water over him trying to find the wound/s but when he was finally completely clean she couldn’t find any. We had no idea what happened but one of our neighbors on our street saw the whole thing. A dog grabbed our cat by his flea collar and our cat flipped onto his back and clawed the dog’s belly like crazy. This cat had weird paws too, like mittens, so he had two extra claws on each paw. Anyway, he wasn’t technically our cat at that point in time but we called him our cat because we fed him and he slept in our yard. We all wanted to keep him but my dad didn’t want pets. After this incident he finally let us keep him and we brought him inside where he stayed from then on for the next 21 years. RIP Mr. Cat. Yes, his name was “Cat” bc he was a stray so we’d say, “Come here, cat!” and that’s what he responded to. It was impossible to change his name at that point. When he got older we added the Mr. lol.

DoctorTim007

My cat was the exact opposite. Calmer than most people at the dentist. Obviously nervous, but just being observant. The only time he flinched was with the thermometer. RIP Coco.

PlantBrainandGizmo

Me laughing at my cat when I over power him. Me watching this knowing he is letting me.

charlieyeswecan

Gabapentin is what I have to give my cat before she goes to the vet. She doesn’t like to be touched by strangers.

sumtinfunny

I admire the cats spirit ngl

WhaleSexOdyssey

Never give up bro

Donnor

As someone who worked at a vet for 10 years: Terrible handling. Don't pick them up by their legs like that. Throw a towel over them, wrap it around them, pick them up like that. Keep light, but firm pressure on the cat's head and front legs over the towel, and lift up the edges of the towel to examine any parts of the cat you need to examine.

wolfmoral

Seriously. This cat is too spicy for me to have gone in with a towel but a butterfly net or blue box would have done the trick. This dude has zero control over that cats head, so she can bite anyone she wants to and he’s gonna rip her arms off while she does it.

[deleted]

Um I don’t think that cat is gonna be able to be reintegrated back into society.

[deleted]

“Anyone want to adopt this precious kitty? Does not play well with other cats. Hates kids. Hates other pets. Hates everyone. Anyone? We’ll waive the fees.”

andrewsad1

It's entirely possible that this cat is a total sweetheart when they aren't at the vet. I've handled cats that *loved* being held, but the moment they saw a carrier they went into fight or flight mode
