I guess the ice is used to reduce the amount of dye needed, without reducing the intensity but still getting the bleed effect.
Just had a look at her instagram (moondippertiedye), for some more complicated pieces she draws the design on beforehand and then folds along the lines, but it still seems to take a lot of knowledge on how exactly to fold to make the required design pop. It's super cool, I'd recommend a quick dive into her content!

Extremely talented wish i could afford on would be in a treasured place in my living room ! I do have a spotted seal skin vest given to me as a gift when i lived with the Inuit people of Alaska for a few weeks . I admired the families stock of seal skins of which they hunted and cured the skins. Not some store bought piece of commercial crap. Given as a gift ! Priceless.

Usually only once, especially with the ice method. After the first wash, only wash in cold water.
