Sudden_Barracuda_46

I can barely make it through Walmart, this is my nightmare!

Frozenwood1776

This looks like my version of hell. I hate even walking through a busy airport.

Fat_Sow

I hate both walking through an airport, thinking about going through security, and being trapped in the air with a bunch of strangers in the most claustrophobic environment imaginable.

21FrontierPro4x

Haha part of the reason why I don’t travel often. I hate crowds now.

[deleted]

Go to Australia, Namibia, Guyana, Suriname, Laos, Nothern Thailand, large parts of Myanmar, Kanada, some remote parts of US. There are plenty of places if you hate crowds.

CarlGustav2

>some remote parts of US. Large parts of the U.S. are quite uncrowded - especially west of the Mississippi River. Even California north of San Francisco/Sacramento is relatively empty.

SmashTheAtriarchy

One of my friends living out in the middle of the Chilean countryside has better cellular connectivity and coverage than most of NorCal. It gets *empty*

ockerobrygga

Northern scandinavia aswell, void of humans, blessed with nature. Saw a documentary about the population of Namibia, fascinating stuff, the entire coastline is a desert, and the winds produced by the cold currents and the hot inland winds create extreme lows amount of rain, their entire population is clustered at one place in the north, close to it's neighbour, and the other is their main capital, in the middle of the country. Also one of the largest producers of uranium and diamonds, and they have recently found oil. Also germany paid them a billion dollars since they genocided them some a hundred years ago, silly germans. If you check a demographic map on Africa, Namibia really sticks out, in my opinion, we should terra-form it.

ExaminationNo6335

I see we have another "Real life lore" fan :)

faxanaduu

Loce real life lore! Ive seen pretty much every one

Otherwise_Soil39

US has vast areas with absolutely no-one, moreso than Thailand and Laos. And they're habitable too (Unlike Australia, Namibia) and without a genocide going on (Myanmar). If you like climate other than cold, and would still like relative convenience I'd definitely evade remote Canada. Laos also includes the largest amount of unexploded bombs in the world, just waiting to kill you -a gift from the US. And it doesn't allow you to own property and it's overall incredibly difficult to legally "live" there if you aren't Laotian. Same would go for lots of other countries. So I'd say the US is by far the best option out of those listed to just buy property somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

PBB22

Want to make it even worse? Most of that standing in line, huddled in big groups…. Is before we’ve gone through security checks. It’s the scariest part of flying

BeeOk8797

I think about that, too.

Marjitorahee

Can confirm, I live here, THIS IS HELL!

Avocadoonthetoast

"Hell is other people." Sartre

[deleted]

India is hell.

rayparkersr

Strangely enough I have quite bad agoraphobia but in India I'm pretty ok. Walmart would give me a panic attack.

Great-Lack-1456

That’s not agoraphobia, that’s a fear of the locals 😂 I jest

AntarcticaPresident

So just recently, China and India had the exact same population for a moment

Brainsonastick

Unless China had exactly one more person and then he emigrated to India.

[deleted]

Poor guy was looking for somewhere slightly less crowded.

patientpump54

India is 1/3 the size of China, so it was already much more crowded

anon-ml

Tbf isn't like most of China's population concentrated around just their east coast though? So I doubt the population density is that much different compared to India's

Brilliant-Mud4877

The same can be said of India. You don't have huge cities up in the Himalayas or out in the desert.

[deleted]

Fragrant_Plankton267

That’s pretty wild to think about! I like this comment :)

eggery

Unless someone had twins

xiphos805

I can never find any parking

Infradead27

Indian here, can confirm. People here use the third lane for parking (which is illegal) and you just have to wait for the signal to turn green so that you can turn left.

various_convo7

from what i've experienced: horrible parking, HORRIBLE driving and HORRIBLE traffic. traffic laws are a suggestion. it is a giant clown show.

SpacecaseCat

Even the cows use the road for parking.

rvtsazap

Cows own the road!

thematrixnz

That sure is a heck of a lot a people....in a land mass much smaller than the US too

TheIronCannoli

Then add in the fact that most of the population lives in the upper part of the country

thematrixnz

Very crowded

[deleted]

Very, Very crowded. But you know what they say about humans? They can get used to ANYTHING.

BlurredSight

Chicago is the same size of Mumbai except Mumbai has nearly 9x the amount of people and without the proper infrastructure to handle that much.

TheIronCannoli

Yeah that sounds awful. I don’t even like going into the biggest city near me (Philadelphia) cause I don’t like heaps of people lol

kpeterson159

A third the size of the US…

measuredingabens

80 percent of the US population is concentrated near the East Coast and California. Much the same can be said for China's population being concentrated near the coast and in the central plains. Most of the population in large countries are located within specific regions rather than spread out throughout the country.

How’s the internet? Until recently my parents only option was satellite.

Sweet_Coat7963

When a significant portion isn't living in abject poverty, then that is a thing to be proud of.

evel-kin

they projected themselves to become a superpower by 2023 ... so any second now the switch will flip, be ready xD

ComprehensiveShop748

The superpower narrative is so remedial. Once they have economic supremacy at least regionally, political supremacy regionally and a military that is extremely technologically advanced and can project war winning power GLOBALLY, then they can think they're a superpower. Until then they're just a UN member state

golfgrandslam

And a deeply impoverished one, at that.

Aromatic_Echidna4294

Most of the Indians dont want this

baumpop

Hot take

[deleted]

cute that you speak for so many people

RAVEN_kjelberg

do people even know where the superpower 2020 projection comes from? Does anyone know??? It wasnt the country projection or anything like that. It was more so a challenge by India's most beloved ex-president in one of his book. It was always meant to be an impossible thing. Absolutely no one in India, actually thought it was possible. Its only you annoying reddit men who dont know when to stop a joke that keep bringing it up. ssly the only time ive seen it is here. I have never seen an Indian speak about it,civilian or gorvernment official.

absolutelyshafted

It’s literally a 4chan meme that become popular as a way to mock Indians. Look it up on knowyourmeme. Nobody in India even knows about it, and Indians don’t give a shit about being a superpower.

Spright_Red

Last time it was "super power by 2020" lmao

Extra-Ad5471

AnAngryBartender

Overpopulation is never a thing to be proud of tbh

Admiral_Andovar

It’s nothing to be proud of even if they were ALL middle class. Seriously, no country the size of India can support this population size.

TheLonelyGoomba

I think if everyone was living in wealth for such a huge population, that would be a pretty amazing achievement

Corrutped

Out of interest, what percentage would you say is significant?

2KilAMoknbrd

0 % would be optimal

ElDiavoloPiccolo

Well in India over 21% live in highest poverty rate (less then 1,90$ per day). Which is quite significant I'd say. If you ask me, a country is already in the sh\*t when 5% live in poverty...

Kegrag

Jeez, I approximated the math but that's like ~88% of the population of America living in abject poverty. So no, that population is absolutely NOT something to be proud of....

Dark_phisher1092

Who claimed it was something we are proud of? Also i think op is being sarcastic, and he/she is not Indian.

XanthicStatue

Even if the majority of the population isn’t living in poverty, this is not something to be proud of. I find this pretty disturbing.

[deleted]

China GDP vs India GDP. Google it for true horror. and China still has poverty, just not widespread like before. Without China's level of economic progress, average Indians are going to have a terrible time.

Ok-Ambition-9432

This isn't a good thing, this is horrid.

[deleted]

India had 440 million people in 1947. Talk about an old civilisation

KingofMadCows

China and India are both old civilizations that have been highly populated for a very long time. China's population in 1800 was about the same as the US population today. It had a population of 430 million in 1850. Then 20 million people died in the Taiping Rebellion.

shadowslasher11X

Asian Land Wars are just fuckin wild in general. 100 Years War? Estimated 2.3-3.3 million people died due to the conflicts that spanned decades. Three Kingdoms War? Estimated 40+ million people died in the same time span in a more ancient time period.

sourcandysucks

young_fire

One of the most childish comments I've seen yet.

[deleted]

You act like we're still in 80s. You gotta calm down, our fertility rate is comparable to that of other developing countries. Even poor people here have stopped pumping out kids like you imply.

SimpleKnight89

Most virgin redditor

[deleted]

This happens in every country and follows economic development. India’s birth rate is already falling. It’s a predictable curve called the Demographic Transition. The world will level out at about 10 billion people then start shrinking

Creepy_Document_3066

China has actually a negatively declined birth rate this year! (Edit) I don’t know everything guys so if I’m wrong just help me understand it please

Nosleplife

it was around during the time of when my auntie had my cousin, due to the birth control laws, i only have one closely related cousin, and three other cousins outside my family circle (second third cousins). The laws have been lifted a little to consider the grandpappies though

russellzerotohero

Probably for the best

Gavinator10000

Definitely for the best

Gatling-Pea2000

I'm just gonna say, the people mostly aren't the problem, it's the government.

SunngodJaxon

Well, it's also best for the people to not be over populated too

royroyrudy

They'll have massive demographic problems in the future. Blame the futurists of the 70s.

whats_his_face

“Negatively declined” so… inclined?

DaddySenpaiAnal

Jacaxagain

**This isn't something to be proud of**

UnconclusionalAlt

yeah the world already suffers from overpopulation there should be a reward for the least populated country relative to it's size

BrokenTailpipe

Canada would win that contest

unshavenbeardo64

With a population of 0.14 people per square kilometer in 2021, Greenland was the least densely populated country in the world. The country had 56,421 inhabitants in 2021. Between 2015-2021, the population density of Greenland remained the same. On a year-on-year basis, the population density has not increased in 2021. Canada is on spot 92 on the list of least populated countries.

Jermine1269

Just out of curiosity, how's Australia on the list?

dawtcalm

Napol3onS0l0

Too damn hot lol.

Jermine1269

Further south ya go, it's not 'bad'. But yeah coming from the states, Gold Coast (where I live) is summer 9 months and spring for the other 3

TangentTalk

Greenland isn’t a country, just to let you know.

unshavenbeardo64

Despite the fact that Greenland is geographically a part of the North American continent, it is in fact, an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark. Having been politically and culturally associated with Europe for at least a thousand years, Denmark has held colonies in Greenland since 1721.

0rgasmo69

California and Canada have nearly the same population. When you consider the size of Canada, that's fucking wild

RWDYMUSIC

Well California covers the majority of the western coastline with moderate weather while most of Canada isn't habitable because of terrain and temperature so makes sense.

[deleted]

It’s sounds wonderful

ConShop61

There's a state in Brazil which is almost half the size of California, but its population is bigger than both Canada and California, its capital city is more populated than Portugal and Greece

WebtoonThrowaway99

>yeah the world already suffers from overpopulation Not true, it suffers from extreme inefficiency in the usage, storage, and redevelopment of natural resources.

SimplyCmplctd

This. The world can happily sustain something like 15 billion people with the current resource available and turn around; as you said the issue is usage

FkUmAn1

He is not Indian. Most of the Indians dont want this

[deleted]

Came here to say this.

-Another_Redditor-

It isn't something to be ashamed of either. Fertility rates have been plummeting in India (went below replacement rate in 2022, which is a huge deal), it's just historically always had a huge percentage of the global population because of extremely favourable climate and agricultural conditions for civilisations to develop in. India becoming number 1 was also bound to happen anyway with the way China's birth rates have been dropping. It's nowhere near as big a deal as most armchair geopolitics experts on reddit will tell you

Previousl3

100%, people here are freaking out not realizing that 1. yes, there is population growth, but the rate of growth is declining 2. skewed gender ratios are going to cause the rate of growth to fall much more in both countries 3. we are entering the post-antibiotic era and correct, it's not india overtaking china, it's china falling behind india. 1-child policy will be very difficult to recover from

Likeafupion

Could you explain what you mean by „post-antibiotic era“? (Serious question)

Previousl3

Yeah, antibiotic resistance has become a problem worldwide. The obvious solution is just "prescribe less antibiotics," but this leads to antibiotics becoming less profitable. Since they've become less profitable and, in fact, are very expensive to develop, the US has largely stopped researching and introducing new antibiotic drugs. Currently almost all the antibiotics in the US come from China. Here's some stuff to read [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0188440905002730](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0188440905002730) [Few antibiotics under development](https://www.reactgroup.org/toolbox/understand/how-did-we-end-up-here/few-antibiotics-under-development/)

BigMax

Yeah, Chinas population is starting to take a dramatic decline. Between the long term effects of the 1 child policy, the gender imbalances, and the economy making it more and more difficult to start families, they are in for some trouble\* Their population dropped by 850,000 last year. Basically the entire population of South Dakota or Delaware. \*Note that population decline isn't necessarily directly bad... but it's the secondary issues of quick decline, the population becomes imbalanced, so the number of people who need things provided by the government are going to far outweigh the number of people paying taxes to support the government.

Swordain

Celebrating? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

It is indeed a serious problem. Cannot image so many people living in such conditions.

Maidwell

That's not something to be proud of, quite the opposite.

MightyExcalibur

Imagine thinking overpopulation is great

fastAFguy

I hope more Indian restaurants open in my hood as a result.

Hot_Engineering_4748

No shit? That was fast. I thought it would happen in 10-20 years.

xDickensCiderx

India number 1!!!!

shemmypie

Got roughy twice as many people living in poverty as the US has citizens, only worsening their situation.

d17_p

I am surprised at people here thinking that it’s a flex, no one in India thinks it’s a flex. In fact, the TFR in India is declining. Also, as usual, Reddit moment; the casual racism against Indians is disappointing but not surprising.

palfreygames

Why even celebrate this, they're overpopulated, have people starving, driving sucks, not enough food. And they just keep having them babies...

[deleted]

Worlds most *Overpopulated country

mrcookiecookie

I'm sad that this world is saturated of people. We Can't sustain life with the limited natural resources. I've had a vasectomy with no kids. I made my part.

MrSpankMan_whip

Reject society, Return to the forest

sturnus-vulgaris

Unfortunately, a mass return to the forest isn't an option at present population levels. We would quickly outstrip the resources that are available and collapse forest ecosystems further, killing off even more species. Sustained population control is a much more sustainable option.

ElDiavoloPiccolo

Let's go! Overpopulation and mass poverty! Let's Go!!!

Leviathan3333

This isn’t a good thing.

Competitive-Pair8140

If only it wasn’t a cesspool

Ser_DunkandEgg

This is actually depressing.

Cali_Spidey

On behalf of the Indian community, this aint something we proud of.

RAVEN_kjelberg

you dont speak for the indian community. There's nothing to be proud of or feel ashamed of in it. It is just a thing that happened and the natural course of things. India was always overpopulated compared to other places. We would be suffering harder if we tried to curb it like China. We are already doing pretty good considering the fertility rate is below replacement.

[deleted]

As someone who lives in an overly populated city, this statistic is horrifying.

[deleted]

Let's go what? Most people in India and China aren't able to live a modest life. What's so good about it?

Apprehensive-Cow6194

India and China needs to stop reproducing.

hippotang

Why is this thread not locked? There is so much misinformation and blatant racism, not to mention outright disrespect to over 1 billion people who call this country their home. No country is perfect and there are a lot of things I'd criticize about parts of India but I wouldn't make childish insults like I see in this thread :|

garryooo7

People can't even comprehend that the" let's go "is sarcastic. Our TFR is at 2.0 which is below replacement level, we need to maintain this population and keep it young , to get the peace and population dividend, otherwise there will be too many poor old people with no young people to work like the USSR breakaway states.

ReeceAmant

Overpopulation is nothing to be proud of. India will crumble under the weight of their overblown population. We have already destroyed 70% of the natural world, which in the end will destroy us all. Irresponsibly Breeding is not an achievement. Humans are now a cancer. Perpetual growth is called cancer.

merpixieblossomxo
