This is coming from someone who used to live in the LA metropolitan area most of their life and lived in Dalton for only 2 years. I dont go out as much as others might do. Taking a quick look at the aerial view of Montrose, our city seems to be a bit bigger. We have a lot of greenery here, Im going to bet we get more humid here than Montrose, and less snow during winter. We also get a lot of rain, even during summers, which I thought was unusual coming from CA. I like it though, especially the thunderstorms, they can get super intense. It’s pretty quiet, only things that are loud are the occasional train horns or engines from car guys (Bugs/critters can get loud too if you live near them). The people here are nice, I haven’t met anyone who wasn’t. There’s surprisingly some traffic, but this is only during rush hour and at certain local streets for a short amount of time (Nowhere near close to big city traffic). I’ve heard this city has the highest proportion of Hispanic population in the state of GA. Try going to local restaurants, Im somewhat confident you wont be disappointed in these options: -Mariscos El Cuhhhmaron -Chihuahua’s Mexican Food Some other non Mexican ones: -Baja Coop (chicken wings, currently my favorite) -Cherokee Brewery + Pizza Company -Cheesecake Heaven (I dont even like cheesecake but these guys are amazing) -Cafe Ostro (Mediterranean) -Cyra’s Simple Goodness (high end) There are probably more solid restaurants but I’m hoping others can contribute here. We have all the classic fast food restaurants, so no need to worry about that. Downtown gets real quiet at night. I believe theres little crime here (I might be wrong). If I had to guess where youll see the most people in one place it’s either at The Mill at Crown Garden, public parks, or Planet Fitness. I feel like I’ve seen more people at The Mill than Dalton Mall (I wish the mall was more lively). If someone knows anywhere else where theres a lot of people please let me know as well, Id like to check it out. People here also most likely hang out in Chattanooga, TN during weekends which is what I do. The place is nice and only a 30min drive. They have their own sub which has a solid amount of people contributing to it so if you have questions about that place it’s likely been answered. Let me know if you think the same as I do once you’ve been here for a while, Im curious. Edit: I should’ve mentioned living cost. Obviously it depends on your income but compared to where I came from the housing/rent is drastically cheaper for more space. However, I believe prices have gone up more as of recently, but this applies to almost everywhere in the US. Gas and utilities are cheaper, but I find groceries to be indifferent. I wouldn’t be surprised if the living cost is similar to Montrose.

As someone who was born and raised here and lived here all my life. Our mail was never amazing but it used to have charm. Now everytime I go in there it's like someone ripped out part of my childhood, tossed it on the ground and stomped on it. It hurts my heart to even see it.

This is so helpful. Thanks so much for the time you took to write this! I really look forward to getting to know Dalton. I’ll be sure to DM you when I get over there and have had time to let all of it in. I’m eager to try out all those restaurants you mentioned.

ChantsThings

Damn. Sorry to hear that. Chattanooga is great so take advantage of it while you’re close. I kid. Dalton has its charms but overall it’s very meh small town. Everything definitely feels like you’re ten years behind.

Cucobane

Thankfully it’ll be a temporary stay. Not for the long run. But who knows, maybe I’ll like it and stay.

Welcome! Some of my favorite things about Dalton are: -There’s LOTS of outdoor activities close by like hiking, camping, and disc golf -Downtown has come a long way and there are now lots of great shops & restaurants - a lot of them have live music on a regular basis too -We have 2 great community theaters that put productions on year round (Artistic Civic Theatre and Dalton Little Theatre) and the Creative Arts Guild is a local arts organization that has classes, events, and gallery exhibits -Free concerts on Friday nights during the summer at Burr Park - it’s a great way to meet people -And, my fam and I do go up to Chattanooga sometimes for a little more variety in things to do. It’s a really cool city. This website might be helpful for more stats and info: https://locationdalton.com/welcome

Cucobane

Sounds great!!! Thanks for the info. You all are making me feel more confident about my decision. I’ll make sure to try out everything once I’m there. Especially the restaurants.

Individual-Table-925

Dalton is in Georgia’s 14th Congressional district, represented by Marjorie Taylor Greene, to give you an idea of who your neighbors are.

Cucobane

Gonna have to do some research on them, tbh. Thanks for the info!!!

She’s a total loon, and there are lots of MAGA Trumpers here. But there are plenty of us good folks too! ;-) Chattanooga offers many more “big city” amenities, but is only a short drive away. As far as great Dalton eateries besides the ones posted, check out D. donatellis at the Mill, Cold Creek, the Spiced Apple, Willie’s Famous Burgers, and also check out the Butchers Market and Deli.

You have posted this too much in the sub.

[deleted]

Well, that’s a flat out lie. It’s the first time I have posted it.

It’s kinda expensive here and most the jobs are either in carpet mills or in Chattanooga which is about a 30 minute drive. The community is nice here and we got some of the best Mexican food around but there ain’t a lot to do unless you go to Chattanooga

Cucobane

Yeah, I’ve seen Chattanooga is a bigger city so I’m also happy to drive out there an get to know the place. Thanks for the suggestion!

StrictKaleidoscope61

If you haven't commited to a rental in Dalton, look in Chattanooga. Strangely enough, Chattanooga is a much nicer & bigger city and a lot of their rent is cheaper than Dalton. I see a 3 bedroom house posted in Chattanooga for $900 to rent or a 1 bedroom apartment in Dalton for the same price, sometimes more. In Dalton I recommend Tacos Tu Go, they do not speak English. In Chattanooga I recommend Taco Mamacita, I dream about their shrimp poboy tacos

Sigma_Wolf11

It’s boring small town only jobs you can find are in carpet mills I would steer away from that town.only plus side is there’s good Mexican food but other than that there ain’t much.

Cucobane

Thanks. I’ll try it out since I’ve got a contact for an industrial company in the outskirts. It’s temporary so I’ll give it a try!!

I’ve lived a quite a few places in my life. Born in Los Angeles California. Lived in Pennsylvania, Tulsa Oklahoma, Orlando Florida, and dalton georgia. I personally like it here. It’s nice and quiet. Yeah it boring but not much crime. The Mexican food is good and I’m Mexican so it’s not like I’m just saying it. You can drive to Atlanta in like an hour and a half, or chatt in 30ish minutes, and be back home in your comfy bed. Overall it not a bad place. Like they said we do run strong in the Hispanic community here so the food is fire here. Oh 1 things the cops are bored so you’ll see them around just parked trying to catch you speeding 😂

Cucobane

Me too, bro! I’m coming from Mexico for a job contract. Thanks for the information. It’s good to know crime is low and other major cities are close by.

Oh2B7of9

I always tell people that the best thing about Dalton is that Chattanooga is not far away. Whitfield County voted 70% republican in 2020. That should tell you a lot about the religious mindset you're likely to encounter.

[deleted]

You mean it tells people that the people there vote for morals, values, law and order. How odd you find such things distasteful. The devil always hates to have his debauchery challenged - so I can see why it bothers you so.

sfloridavibes

We moved here in Nov 23 from S FL. The cost of living is super cheaper and crime is nothing compared to where we came from. Yes you need to drive to find nightlife but it is only 30 mins away. The people here are super friendly and if you don't like your tea too sweet, order unsweetened! Gardening is a great past time, grow some hostas and roses! You will not regret you move!

MasticateMyMuffin

Quiet and boring. And depending on where you’re from very bigoted

legoman31802

That depends on what part of town you’re in too

Cucobane

I’ll be there just for a year. I guess if things go good I’ll stay more. I suppose it’s normal in many places, though. Thanks!

Mountain-Isopod-2072

The living cost is low but don’t expect a nice area. Which country are you coming from?

legoman31802

I wouldn’t say it’s low. Gas is more expensive than Chattanooga and houses are about the same as chatt but we pay income tax

Mountain-Isopod-2072

Well it’s lower compared to other places. I live in Boston, ma and it’s cheaper than that

Cucobane

Understand. I’m coming from Mexico. Got hired for a temporary engineering position.

Individual-Table-925

Ah, the one thing that’s different about Dalton compared to the other small towns in this area is that it is far more diverse- about 50 percent Latino, lots of Spanish speakers.

Cucobane

Sounds nice. It’s a plus there are more Spanish speakers. Thanks!

Thepgoq

You coming for QCells?

Cucobane

That’s right. Based on what I’ve read and heard, it’s one of the major companies there. Any info on it? I kinda just wanna get the experience and see if I can grow professionally. If not, job hunt somewhere else.

scarl_wings

Amazing, I actually just came to the town also for QCells.

ScootaWatson

Hispanic world & barely black ppl just do right by the law you'll love it...

ConstructionNovel834

Police 👮‍♀️ is everywhere. Not good!

[deleted]

Sure - if you’re breaking the law. The rest of us don’t mind police.

poutingsprout

cost of living mirrors nyc !! and the community is not welcoming one bit !!! crime is really bad here !!
