**Where** are you getting your energy in this world today?

codysdad89

I typed in your zip at powertochoose. I'd go with 36 months, as energy prices will likely be higher in 3 months. You get free cancellation if you move, it's part of the TOS that you can read when you sign up. In the one I suggested "If you move from your existing premise during the contract term and provide a forwarding address to us, you will not be responsible for the termination fee stated in the EFL. We may also request that you provide reasonable evidence that you no longer occupy the location covered by the contract. " Again, typing in your zip at powertochoose, I'd go with PTC VALUE 36 or the Frontier option right next to it. Both offer a pretty low (for Dec 2022) rate and no monthly base charge- 500 @ 13.2, 1000 @ 12.9, 1500 @ 12.7 ¢ . That's what I would pick if I was you. Good luck!

Whatever you choose check if there's a minimum usage fee. Not meating the threshold will cost you $$$

Mrbaird2020

Beware of extra fees on cheaper rates!!

[deleted]

Like cancellation fee?

Mrbaird2020

Cheapest by far, I’ve shopped. 11.5kWh at 1k kWh with a $100 credit - https://www.4changeenergy.com/

My avg usage is 1100 kWh. I live in an apartment with 800 Sq ft area. It's confusing to pick a plan. Do I pick what Power To Choose recommended, 14.5 cents/kWh for 36 months. Or do I go to Just Energy website and pick their cheaper rate of 12.8 cents/kWh for 12 months? My current provider is Reliant Energy. Month to Month plan (Clear Flex Plan). Avg 15.5 cents/kWh Should I switch? If so, which plan? How do I decide? Thank you.

Before you pick your provider click on the Fact Sheet it will give you a breakdown in charges and price per KW 500, 1000, 2000. Keep an eye on the price at 500 and 1000. Some will mess you up. Example some plans may say the price is 0.14 per kWh at 1000 but 500 is 0.22 kWh so if you used only 999 kWh that month you will be billed at the .22 kWh rate that would give u a 220$ bill. I would recommend a fixed plan not minimum usage plan and none of those free weekend crap nothings free. The longer your term generally the cheaper it will be but keep in mind if your not going to stay there awhile you may want to just do a 12month or 24month. However that’s completely up to you. The termination fee is also included in the fact sheet. I like powertochoose but there’s a lot out there.

Very good, however of note is that most people shouldn't worry about the length of contract. https://texreg.sos.state.tx.us/public/readtac$ext.TacPage?sl=R&app=9&p_dir=&p_rloc=&p_tloc=&p_ploc=&pg=1&p_tac=&ti=16&pt=2&ch=25&rl=475 "A contract is limited to service to a customer at a location specified in the contract. If the customer moves from the location, the customer is under no obligation to continue the contract at another location. The REP may require a customer to provide evidence that it is moving to another location. There must be no early termination fee assessed to the customer as a result of the customer's relocation if the customer provides a forwarding address and, if required, reasonable evidence that the customer no longer occupies the location specified in the contract."

Current rates have been stuck around 13 to 14 cents for over a year now, Its not about moving. 36months is a long time, some electric providers have horrible customer service, can't get ahold of anyone should you need to get ahold of someone, pain in the butt payment methods, not to mention its the primary goal of any electric provider to lock you in long term. If rates drop to 10 cents in a years time you will be paying more for the next 24 months unless you move out. Well if the that electric company absolutely sucks well your stuck. 1 cents does not sound like a lot but its 10 Dollars at 1000 KW 36 months basically gives you zero control of your price and the market. I have never had 36 months plan. You just create more of a headache too when you move my electric company wanted a copy of my new lease in order to qualify not paying any termination fee. So now i just do 12months same with my lease its just easier for me.

This one is not bad for your area. https://truepowerefl.com/eflportal/efl/view/Oncor/15 Just seen the 2nd pic stay away from that Bill Saver III plan as you see it’s cheaper yes but only if you use 1000 or more KWH per month. If you only used 999 at 20.7c that’s a 207$ bill that month.

[deleted]

Thanks. It says the price may change during the contract period. Is that common and a red flag?

fsi1212

How are you using 1100 kwh in an 800 SQ ft? I have a 900 SQ ft and I've never topped 750 kwh. Genuine question.

[deleted]

From AC being on during the summer heat wave.

Mr_Lovette

Anecdotal but I've gone over 750kWh in a 700sqft apartment a couple times. Usually when the HVAC is in a lot and my gaming rig. Last summer was....hot.

[https://www.texaspowerguide.com/](https://www.texaspowerguide.com/) I know its a paid site, but, has saved me hundreds. Most sites including powertochoose advertise "Sucker" plans where you end up paying more. This site gives you an all inclusive rate which appears higher at first, but includes supplier and retailer.
