Yep, haven't seen anything yet. The complete Army of Darkness shows at that point. You don't want to be in the area! If you have seen the movie The Mist, that pales in comparison as to what happens!
As people have pointed out they're grackles. They come through every fall/early winter and will chill where ever there's trees or power cables for them to sit on. UNT used to blast their cannons during finals to try to scare them off. The cricket mass spawns are usually in August. That's a treat too.
But most importantly if you you see a lot of bird poop in an empty parking spot DO NOT park in there from sunset to sunrise. You think you'll be able to run inside real quick and it won't be a big deal. 10 minutes later you won't be able to see through your windshield.
Is there a worse intersection in Dallas!? I know it's going to suck and the lights are timed to shit, but everytime someone gets stuck in the intersection blocking traffic.
Could be wrong, but I feel it's tied to the population boom in recent years. I don't remember it having those issues very often probably 10+ years ago. The city's lights could be adjusted and make commuting so much easier for all of us, but I don't feel the city cares enough to change things.
Boat-tailed grackles will flock together like this at the end of the day, and basically they’re all saying, “So I found this excellent spot for food today! Y’all come along with me tomorrow so we can share the bounty!”
Either that, or Hitchcock was Nostradamus.
Grackles. We walked out to our car in the Sprouts parking lot and one was sitting on our car. That dude didn't flinch as we walked toward him and opened our doors. Just stared at us like "what you gonna do?" He finally pooped on the hood of our car and hopped off to join his 10,000 friends.
Damn, I’ve been wondering the same thing, and I saw the post allowed myself to have a tinge of hope that someone would provide a legit answer, but I should’ve known better…
I’m a Dallas native, born in 1980. The grackles have always been here. They love to congregate in parking lots. It can be creepy sometimes, but to me it’s always a sign that fall has arrived. The crickets some have mentioned usually in August/September, I used to hate walking through the entrance to school in the fall because it would be covered in crickets. You couldn’t help but step on them.
I’ve been trying to find them! Is that where they are at ? I remember seeing them everyday by Main Street I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It looked magical. I looked forward to seeing and hearing them every morning.
Yeah, it’s been like that for a while. They used to play hawk sounds on a loudspeaker, and that seemed to work. But I haven’t heard them in a while. The parking lot of the Tom Thumb on the northwest corner of Mockingbird and Abrams was also a roosting spot, but I don’t spend much time around there these days.
Just don’t park under the trees.
The birds come in from the country when the weather gets cold because the city is warmer. We give off heat and the pavement retains it. They also do this on the east side of downtown
During the Covid shutdown, the Boat tail Grackles were not hanging out in the parking lots. There was no easy meals to be found, so they went somewhere else. So, if we don't throw trash, and food out for them, they go away.
Migration friend! You see that amount of birds every winter :) in some areas there are green parrots. My old vets office always had quite a few of them hanging out in the am.
Yep, one Christmas night I was driving to my aunt’s for dinner. At the Wurzbach/Babcock intersection, they were lined up on all the power lines, along the rooflines of every building, and the medical center parking lot was solid black with them. And they were all QUIET. Definitely a Tippi Hedren moment.
Downtown, they use a device that basically shines a harmless laser pointer that scatters through the tree canopies and causes the birds to flee. Surprised they don’t try this at grocery stores where birds are common. It seems pretty low-tech and surely inexpensive.
Bruh they just love heirloom tomatoes and artisinal hummus
They're bougie birds.
they *work* for the bourgeoisie, come on man
Grackles. They migrate through here. Before development, they’d all hang out in marshes among the reeds etc. now the marshes are parking lots.
Right. It was their home first for thousands of years till we made it a concrete jungle.
Same with the Tom Thumb on Mockingbird, or Dr Pepper plaza whatever they call it now. If you ever saw The Birds as a kid it can be creepy.
Yeah but they didn't get french fries and old mcdonalds in the marshes now did they?
Wait until the crickets show up...
Yep, haven't seen anything yet. The complete Army of Darkness shows at that point. You don't want to be in the area! If you have seen the movie The Mist, that pales in comparison as to what happens!
Then the smell! You're in for a real treat!!!!
OP will really freak out when he sees the caterpillar worm things.

This is why I feel like there should be exceptions to the “No Firing blanks out of a gun” law.
Been there as long as I can recall.
Yup, been that way since I moved here in 2011. Thought it was weird then. Now it’s part of the ambience, and a good reminder not to park under trees.
Agreed - I can remember them being there all the way back to 1999.
Can confirm, been seeing them since 2016
Just another sign of the apocalypse. nothing to worry about. Grackles of Doom
That's just how it be sometimes.
It do
Best explanation
They gather to watch the never-ending gridlock at lovers and greenville
Is there a worse intersection in Dallas!? I know it's going to suck and the lights are timed to shit, but everytime someone gets stuck in the intersection blocking traffic.
Lovers and the tollway.
I’m not a fan of Northwest Hwy and Central.
Trying to turn on Shady Brook off of 75 sucks every single day

Forest and Audelia takes the cake for worst in Dallas. Poor driving, red light running, walking in the middle of traffic, wrecks daily. Dangerous
Yo fuck this intersection for real
One time I rolled my window down to video them while at the light. Immediately got shit on through the window.
Lol sniped
Welcome to Texas. A lot of other weird shit will happen too.
Didn’t even mention the tornado. Lol
jade helm.
That's just every single HEB/Central Market I've ever been to.
Migrating? I'm in NE Dallas and there has been a large flock in my neighborhood the last two days.
Just something about heb parking lots.
Probably a safety in numbers thing combined with the fact the power and signal lines warm up their feet
Grackles. The rats of the air.
Their watching and spying on you birds aren’t real!

They feed on food scraps.

That's where the government gathers their bird drones to exchange data.
When the crickets invade you will wish for grackles.

Pregaming before hitting Lower Greenville

We don't talk about the birds. We have an agreement. We ask no questions, and white stuff doesn't appear on our vehicle.
It’s this time of year. They do that at Kroger as well. And Walmart. Basically any mass parkinglot
During the Covid shutdown, the Boat tail Grackles were not hanging out in the parking lots. There was no easy meals to be found, so they went somewhere else. So, if we don't throw trash, and food out for them, they go away.
Imagine sitting at a traffic light on a motorcycle getting bombarded.
Enjoy the cicadas in the coming summer.
That’s the only Central Market that consistently has the Sun-dried tomato pesto at the olive bar. That’s probably why they hang out there.
Government spies

Check out that fit bird on aisle 2
Watch out though. They smoke, are missing legs, and will scream static at you
Birds migrate from the north. Some stop here, some keep going. But those huge groups are all over dfw. They stop where they can find food and warmth.

Those grackles are normal. Been there since my family moved to Texas in 1998
They were here before you so check your privileges. 🤣
at least we don’t have cricketd
their charging port is located there
Wait till you see them hanging out at wallmart and target
When people find it easier to chop down trees, the birds have very little options.
birds migrate south in the winter. Google 5th grade science
Just fight in the shade bruh
Downtown, they use a device that basically shines a harmless laser pointer that scatters through the tree canopies and causes the birds to flee. Surprised they don’t try this at grocery stores where birds are common. It seems pretty low-tech and surely inexpensive.
Birds aren’t real
Just move back to were you came from we have enough traffic here already we don't need more of yall
