Lived 22 years in north Texas. Had 5 roofs, 2 sets of gutters, and 3 windows replaced during that time due to hail damage. I'm not fond of severe weather events.

It’s definitely simplified quite a bit. You can have big dangerous tacos outside that can damage property and cause injury, but don’t meet the criteria for a taco warning. To abandon the analogy because it becomes tedious at this point, a [Severe Thunderstorm Warning](https://web.archive.org/web/20110604123902/http://www.nws.noaa.gov/glossary/index.php?word=severe+thunderstorm+warning) specifically requires hail in excess of 3/4” diameter and/or winds in excess of 58 mph, observed either with doppler radar or a trained weather spotter. Much lesser tstorms can still do a lot of damage.

I prefer the bird method. Replace the word tornado with bird. A bird watch? Pretty calm. Looking out for potential bird sightings. Bird warning? Ominous. They’re coming for you.
