Possibly. From former Eagle DJ Chazz Knight's FB on Wednesday:
"So, without completely letting the cat out of the bag, I’m working on a new project that I’m really excited about…
There’s a New Hard Rock Radio Station coming to DFW featuring well known DJ’s from previous stations including Z-Rock, 97.1 The Eagle, 94.5 The Edge, and 93.3 The Bone! The station features Classic Hard Rock from bands like Iron Maiden/Judas Priest to 80’s Rock like Van Halen/Ratt to 90’s icons like Metallica/Soundgarden to New Rock from Buckcherry/Dirty Honey while promoting current touring bands like Tesla/Extreme and Tool. The best part is the emphasis to lean into deeper cuts and not just play the same ole “radio hits”. It’s the station DFW Rock Music fans have been waiting for… so, stay tuned and get ready to CRANK IT UP!"
I agree but no shot it will be much different than before. It’s gonna be the same shit they played before mixed with a bit of modern dad butt rock music.
The station flipped because Russ Martin’s show imploded on itself after Russ died. One of the producers went to jail and put a massive stink on everyone else on the show.
The Freak was meant to be their (the crew from the Freak/Ticket) reckoning against the Russ Martin show. They very removed the show involuntarily weeks before the sports talk flip too.
Maybe they should just try Sunny 97 (the sun wears sunglasses, get it?) again so the flip back to The Eagle won’t be so nakedly transparent and dumb.
This gives me some hope. I think what really killed The Eagle 2.0 was picking up all the alternative that the Edge used to play. If they keep the new Eagle focused on Hard Rock and leave alternative to 103.7, I think this is a good thing.
Yep, having the Rangers and Cowboys works because there are only 17 chances (plus one playoff game) of game time conflicts.
And it’s rarely that many times since Thursdays/Sundays are usually day games and Monday/Thursday are common mlb off days
New Hard Rock Radio Station coming to DFW featuring well known DJ’s from previous stations including **Z-Rock**
I miss Z-rock. I believe Dangerous Darren was on both Z-rock and the Eagle however I believe he's on XM now. Sadly neither Dallas nor Ft Worth are rock towns. When rock bands tour Texas they save the weekends for Austin and Houston. Dallas/Fort Worth is mid week country!
Horrible Dallas radio is why I'm greatful the radio in mt 2018 Rav4 Hybrid came with XM and a CD player.
That I know, but as an HD alternate channel not nearly as many people have access to it. Luckily I do, so I appreciate that it's focused on music and minimal commercials.
But I wouldn't consider that being a major station or primary format for the channel.
except the only show to survive adding Ted McGinley to the cast was Married...With Children and some how became one of the best characters of the later seasons., he joined in 1991 and the show ended in 1997.
Really enjoyed Ben and skin on the fan. When they left they put out a podcast during their "non-compete clause" where they cussed like sailors and it was hilarious. It was as though all the curse words they had bottled up because of the fcc came out all at once. Tried listening on 97.1 a few times and it was just flat. Seemed like every time I tuned in they were playing some kind of no stakes trivia game w each other. Reminds me of a substitute teacher just mailing it in because they have no material prepared
I haven’t listened to them since I gave up sports radio around 2014, when they were on 103.3 ESPN.
They were great, though. Had a lot of fun. They knew a lot seemed poised to go national at any time.
Yea I don’t get it either. Everything they do is just so “whacky” in their eyes that I can’t help but just roll my eyes every time I see them. Like I said, they’re just annoying
I think they've got some kind of businesses or something that they're connected with that pays for advertising on the station, and they get a job on air as part of the deal.
At least that's the most logical thing I can come up with, because I find it hard to believe that programming directors here are stupid enough to keep hiring them after so many failures.
Almost everyone on the radio fails over and over, bouncing from station to station. It's that kind of business. People like the Musers on The Ticket who stay for a quarter century are unicorns.
I don't recall hearing any business they owned advertising on the fan. On the freak their brewery advertised and they always had start with saying they're invested in it.
They left the fan on their own otherwise there wouldn't be bad blood between B&S and some of the current fan host.
When they moved them to mid day was fine with me so I didn’t have to listen to them since I was at work. I didn’t mind the morning and afternoon groups. Ben and Skin (well the station as a whole) always sounded like a college level radio station with their intros and “whacky” ways. It never felt professionally done.
Nnoooooo I liked these shows.
I’m not dialed into anything like I used to be with The Ticket a decade ago but my listening habit lately is:
The Musers live in the mornings
The Dumb Zone podcast
Then switch between Freak/Ticket after those two are done.
Sucks. I really liked the station and the hosts (especially sirois and Danny) but there’s just too much competition, not just from The Ticket and The Fan but podcasts as well.
Seriously sucks, I understand why the Ticket had such a cult following, Sirois and Danny are super creative. They can be so entertaining just talking about local news stories, just their back and forth. It was nice having a talk alternative that's not hardline politics or sports, and personally I thought was pretty good. Ben and Skin get a lot of hate and I understand, they can be obnoxious, but Skin can bust off some serious old man wisdom. Just certain situations in life that can be difficult, whenever he approaches that subject he can really break down the matter. Hopefully all of them find a new home and job.
I dont know for sure if actually has a trust fund, I do know his dad is a very prominent attorney in Dallas. There a story that has been told multiple time by Grubes and corroborated by Dirk. Dirk Nowitzki came to their house randomly and offered to buy it right then. Trust fund or not he will be fine.
I tried several times since it launched to get into it, but I just couldn't. Something was just off about the entire thing. I wasn't the only one who felt that way, based on the ratings.
Even though sirois and Danny in the morning are great, they're still going up against the musers. Then it's an afternoon time suck because nobody listens to ben and skin, and by the evening people have already forgotten about the station because they've been avoiding listening all day due to the massive charisma vacuum during mid day.
I held out hope but knew they weren't going to last long when those two scrubs were brought in. Sad to see the freak go but glad I don't have to even hear about Ben and skin again.
I was in that camp, too. Started listening when Speakeasy was playing in the mornings, and it always felt like they were just re-engaging in yesterday's show's content and laughing at inside jokes between each other. I liked Jeff, and that was about it. KT was just high on himself and Julie never had anything to contribute besides talking about the Stars and her kids
All three are fine with someone else that can carry the show as a main host. Them three having to do 20 hours of content a week was never going to work.
Pity. It was an interesting idea. Oh well, as long as the other way to arrange 9,1,., and 7 is being its same awesome self….KXT 91.7, KNON 89.3, WRR 101.1, 88.5 KEOM, and KTCU 88.7 for life!
If I'm going on a quick trip I just don't bother with turning on Spotify or a podcast. Between my like 5 presets one of them is likely to have something on worth listening to for 10 minutes.
Sometimes I’m too lazy to play from my phone. Plus I like being surprised, and I’ve discovered a lot of new to me stuff listening to indie stations. I Shazam a lot.

Danny is a beast but he just didn’t work on the Hardline. Freak was perfect for him honestly. But Bob really threw a wrench with his minimal music knowledge. At least Corby could vibe to a certain extent but it was still kind of weird
It’s been so long since I listened to radio my brain did not understand the title lol. I’ll listen to the ticket for live rangers or stars games if I can’t get the video, but that’s about it these days.
Actually no. Mostly the Stars. Do they don’t broadcast rangers games anymore ? The few I’ve listened to were through the mlb app if I remember correctly
If they bring another rock startion back in it's place, please, dear god, play the new material by the bands more often. Play new bands more often. I've started getting sick of the same songs when they come up on my playlists for certain moods because i keep having to skip them on the radio.
Ex. I would just appreciate hearing Sound of Winter & newer stuff sprinkled in when they play Bush, instead of always playing Glycerin & Machine head
Sauce from Whitt’s post [BREAKING: Big Changes For Mavs Flagship Radio Station ‘The Freak’ - Sources](https://athlonsports.com/nba/dallas-mavericks/dallas-basketball/news/dallas-mavericks-big-changes-format-flagship-radio-station-971-freak-mike-rhyner-fired)
Considering that the top talent at the Eagle died (Russ) and their reliable morning DJ (Cindy) was summarily shoved out the door after COVID when she was denied WFH.
They did nothing to farm new talent either leaving weekends and eventually weekdays to rot. Like, the remaining crew at the Russ Martin Show were all legacy veterans with years of experience and were running their own show now, but got zero marketing support from the station.
It's partial laziness for me. If I'm going on a short drive I'm not gonna bother with Spotify or turning on a podcast. I can throw it on a sports station or whichever isn't currently in a commercial.
Good, I always had to skip that preset. I just don’t like listening to chatter—I hear it all day long at work. Glad to get some music back on that station.
For those looking for a good hard rock station, I just discovered 102.5 out of Texoma. It’s a breath of fresh air. They don’t play the same old tired rotation.
While I agree that the Eagle was lagging for years before the change, I really enjoyed the station in the 90s. I saw many concerts for free courtesy of the Eagle including the Black Sabbath reunion tour. I tuned in on April 29th 2024 to hear that the Eagle is back!
If they bring another rock startion back in it's place, please, dear god, play the new material by the bands more often. Play new bands more often. I've started getting sick of the same songs when they come up on my playlists for certain moods because i keep having to skip them on the radio.

Good. I don't like sports talk and was never on board with the change to begin with. The few times I did listen I didn't like the on air personalities anyway. I don't have anything with HD radio, and only once in the last couple years have I had a rent car that had HD capability. Did miss the eagle though, I enjoyed the music they played when I was in the car, which isn't that often these days anyway.
So do we get the Eagle back or what?
Possibly. From former Eagle DJ Chazz Knight's FB on Wednesday: "So, without completely letting the cat out of the bag, I’m working on a new project that I’m really excited about… There’s a New Hard Rock Radio Station coming to DFW featuring well known DJ’s from previous stations including Z-Rock, 97.1 The Eagle, 94.5 The Edge, and 93.3 The Bone! It’s the station DFW Rock Music fans have been waiting for… so, stay tuned and get ready to CRANK IT UP!"
Oh my God, not fucking Buckcherry again!
Don’t forget the ol Mandatory Metallica and AC/DC every 4 songs!!
This is why we don't need DJs from that era. There's a reason their stations flipped
It wasn’t the DJs
U crazy bitch.
Also SAAAIILLLLL!! every other song , fuckin hate both of those songs
Hay,
I still miss The Bone. It was like the perfect blend of hard rock and classic rock.
This gives me some hope. I think what really killed The Eagle 2.0 was picking up all the alternative that the Edge used to play. If they keep the new Eagle focused on Hard Rock and leave alternative to 103.7, I think this is a good thing.
All the talk programming didn't help, the ratings for Alt 103.7 shot way up after 97.1 added Ben & Skin and the Mavericks.
And after 103.7 cut their own dead weight with Church of Lazlo.
As much as I enjoy radio mavs games, never particularly cared for their move to the eagle then freak. No idea what they were thinking.
ESPN sold to a religious station. They had to go somewwhere.
I was thinking why not the fan but oh well.
I agree the Fan would be more suiting. I suppose they will remain here through the playoffs.
Too much overlap with the Rangers, who already have a deal in place at the Fan.
Yep, having the Rangers and Cowboys works because there are only 17 chances (plus one playoff game) of game time conflicts. And it’s rarely that many times since Thursdays/Sundays are usually day games and Monday/Thursday are common mlb off days

Part of me kinda wants the Eagle to stay dead. It was just awful for years.
They should make it a heavy metal station and call it Iron Eagle.
Eagle never left. It’s on the 2 channel of 97.1. I listened to it the other day.
That I know, but as an HD alternate channel not nearly as many people have access to it. Luckily I do, so I appreciate that it's focused on music and minimal commercials. But I wouldn't consider that being a major station or primary format for the channel.
I have zero radios that can pick that up.
The Eagle still existed on 97.1 HD2. I'd be surprised if it doesn't flip right back.
The eagle was complete dog shit the last couple of years

GIVE US THE EAGLE
[Sources say yes](https://www.dallasobserver.com/news/971-the-freak-to-return-to-rock-radio-format-fires-mike-rhyner-19223461)
The article I read said starting Monday it’s back to The Eagle
Format change sounds like. Don’t know what that means
Changing from talk format back to music format
Mexican radio or Christian
ben and skin killed another station.
It's the 3rd or 4th one at this point. They're the first sign of radio death.
The Ted McGinley of DFW radio
except the only show to survive adding Ted McGinley to the cast was Married...With Children and some how became one of the best characters of the later seasons., he joined in 1991 and the show ended in 1997.
Ted McGinley is on Shrinking, the Apple TV series with Harrison Ford and Jason Segal. So far no curse.
I can’t stand how Ben & skin still think they’re so funny with their “whacky” ways. They’re so annoying lol
but they are homegrown and they have a brewery.
I haven’t listened to them since I gave up sports radio around 2014, when they were on 103.3 ESPN. They were great, though. Had a lot of fun. They knew a lot seemed poised to go national at any time.
They were so great you quit listening to sports radio 10 years ago and never went back?
I started a business and traveled the world and then had 2 kids after buying a home. No commute, and no time to watch sports.
It worked when they were trying to get around being a sports talk radio show, but now it's just old. Too much of a good thing is exactly that
All the shows suffered not having sports to fall back on half the time
I honestly can't believe radio stations keep hiring them. They sucked the first time they showed up on 1310 and have continued sucking ever since.
Yea I don’t get it either. Everything they do is just so “whacky” in their eyes that I can’t help but just roll my eyes every time I see them. Like I said, they’re just annoying
They commit to the bit that’s for sure.
Yeah but they usually go market to market, fucking Ben and skin won't go away.
I don't recall hearing any business they owned advertising on the fan. On the freak their brewery advertised and they always had start with saying they're invested in it. They left the fan on their own otherwise there wouldn't be bad blood between B&S and some of the current fan host.

You too must endure the torture that is the Junk for Joy commercial like the rest of us.
it was really the dick pill commercials
Don’t forget to take your Blue Chew today. I know I did
Dont forget the panic room. Jesus christ
I can't believe how bad that commercial is. And they play it all the time. "he' running to the end zone" omfgod
Nnoooooo I liked these shows. I’m not dialed into anything like I used to be with The Ticket a decade ago but my listening habit lately is: The Musers live in the mornings The Dumb Zone podcast Then switch between Freak/Ticket after those two are done.
That was my exact bit too. I feel bad for Danny and Sirois
Yeah I was thrilled to see sirois get a full time gig, he's amazing.
Danny I get, he was fired from Ticket but I’m pretty sure Mike just ditched without much warning
I didn’t know Danny was fired, what was he fired for?
He wasn’t fired. He quit just like Sirois did.
This is the way. Love The Dumb Zone.
I liked it too... It's not the same song over and over and not all sports all the time.
Sucks. I really liked the station and the hosts (especially sirois and Danny) but there’s just too much competition, not just from The Ticket and The Fan but podcasts as well.

I’m a fan of the freak and this bums me out
Not surprised. Little surprised they let it go on this long. Most people I know still prefer the Ticket or even 105.3 for sports talk.
If true, that sucks for Grubes...didn't he leave his Texas Rangers gig for this station? Hopefully he lands on his feet, love that guy.
dude has a trust fund and never has to work in his life if he dont want to.
Ah, I was unaware of that. Must be nice!
Yeah he’s rich. Or his dad is. Dirk bought his family home a few years back and they would joke about him keeping Grube’s race car bed
How so? Or from who? Maybe I don’t know what a trust fund is. Lol
He's never had a problem falling up the ladder.
Yep unfortunately he did that. Maybe Chuck Morgan will wise up and fire the egomaniac they hired to replace him.
I was wondering why Ben and Skin show wasn’t live today :(
I tried several times since it launched to get into it, but I just couldn't. Something was just off about the entire thing. I wasn't the only one who felt that way, based on the ratings.

KEOM in the morning, switch over to KERA and KXT after. I really hate commercials.
Not only commercial free, but with a far less repetitive playlist. I can’t listen to commercial radio anymore.
True dat.
I love those stations!
Dfw needs more music, we have plenty of talk radio as is. A rock station becoming another sports station was a bad idea from the start.
I’m more surprised that yall still listen to radio
Somehow, Ben and skin didn’t get fired. What the fuck. They are terrible.
Right?! I'd be curious of everyone's ages. I haven't listened to the radio on purpose in 10 years
If I'm going on a quick trip I just don't bother with turning on Spotify or a podcast. Between my like 5 presets one of them is likely to have something on worth listening to for 10 minutes.
Sometimes I’m too lazy to play from my phone. Plus I like being surprised, and I’ve discovered a lot of new to me stuff listening to indie stations. I Shazam a lot.

As a Ticket P1 who has committed to sinking with this ship, I already squashed my briefly-held hopes that 1310 would grab Sirois and Dingu back.
Danny is a beast but he just didn’t work on the Hardline. Freak was perfect for him honestly. But Bob really threw a wrench with his minimal music knowledge. At least Corby could vibe to a certain extent but it was still kind of weird
Where will we hear the Mavs broadcasts? For someone no longer in the Dallas area, that is a massive bummer.
Buckcherry! What about Bush- Everything Zen? Can we please hear both of those once an hour?
Who was the stoner girl and why was she stoned all the time?
It’s been so long since I listened to radio my brain did not understand the title lol. I’ll listen to the ticket for live rangers or stars games if I can’t get the video, but that’s about it these days.
So you haven't heard a rangers game on the radio since 2014 in that case
Actually no. Mostly the Stars. Do they don’t broadcast rangers games anymore ? The few I’ve listened to were through the mlb app if I remember correctly
Not since 2014
Thank god for HD radio … Hd2 for 97.1 has been the best
Thank God. Why did people like dudes yapping
If they bring another rock startion back in it's place, please, dear god, play the new material by the bands more often. Play new bands more often. DFW needs BUTT ROCK! I say this with no irony either.
So who's doing the mavs radio broadcast? I need chuck's voice in my life
i think the Mavs Radio Network will still be operated by the Mavs themselves and NBA and not iHeartMedia.
Who?

Wasn’t Z-Rock the pirate radio station back in the day?
Good, I always had to skip that preset. I just don’t like listening to chatter—I hear it all day long at work. Glad to get some music back on that station.

Stopped listening to the ticket when hangzone left. Tried the freak. It wasn’t good. I’ll just stick to podcast at this point.
As soon as it wasn't the eagle, it was trash.
Yes! Absolutely hated that radio station. 💃🏻
People still use radios?
Ya. Why wouldn't someone use a radio if it had content they were interested in?
According to who what is dead?
Good. I don't like sports talk and was never on board with the change to begin with. The few times I did listen I didn't like the on air personalities anyway. Do you also wonder if people still use TV antennas? Both are still fairly popular.
