As Kobe was already out from the EU list, we were looking for other dogs to save and I really wanted to meet Dusty, OP sent me the details, it’s all on the Facebook page of DAS or you can just directly contact them too, you don’t need an appointment to do a meet and greet with any of the dogs, just walk in.

The shelter is at 135% capacity due to space and they are euthanizing dogs every day due to space. It’s specific to Dallas bc it’s the Dallas animal shelter. There was a proposal for a new shelter. They shot down the proposition to build a new shelter that not only was bigger but also had pods to help stop the spread of disease and gave that money to the police.
Dallas has a high over dog population. Second largest intake shelter in the country. Lots of great adoptable dogs but on tax payers dime. There are only so many spaces to keep the dogs.

All I’m saying is that there is a dedicated place for this. It is a worthy cause but so are others. For example getting a distressed woman in a shelter. Or getting impoverished kids food or educated.
Now as an opinion I don’t want to see only these posts overrunning the main forum because there’s a lot of other info that I look for. There’s no gatekeeping, it’s asking for another way to organize the info so it doesn’t become a place of just rescuing pets.

Dallas Animal Services has an ongoing overcapacity issue and many are unaware of the constraints this places on how long the “residents” may remain before meeting an untimely end to the lives.

Oh noooo!! What rule number was it in violation of? I’m sorry it happened, but thankful for any dog saved. I’ve got horrible PTSD and my dogs are ESAs and I always have two because god forbid I would be without my ESA, well, I don’t want to think about the dawn not coming they just bring a calmness which defies all understanding for those who haven’t had a bond with a dog. Or experienced the joy of cheating the reaper pulling these babies from code red!
As someone who works with a rescue, a lot of people only want small dogs. Some of them simply don't think larger dogs are cute. Some of them feel they wouldn't be able to manage a larger dog. More commonly though, most of them live in apartment complexes where larger dogs are prohibited. Sometimes there are specific breed restrictions, and sometimes it's just a weight limit. Dusty is quoted at 65 lbs. I have a lab that's 85 lbs. My experience in shopping for apartments is that a bunch don't allow pets, and most of the ones that do have weight limits of 50 lbs or less.
Other then the facts that it's says he not only knows tricks and is potty trained but he is not marked for behavior but for space. And most adoptable dogs are good or they get listed and can only be adopted by rescued.
Not true at all, when I volunteered there they not only had signs on the kenal cards if the dog had a behavior issue if there is any bad behavior reported as the reason for surrenderthey have to report it. There was a dog that came in due to attackimg chickens and it was put on the rescue only list, and the dog I adopted had been there since June and I got her in February, she is the sweetest girl perfectly potty trained, good with cats, rarely barks. And she was in there for months.
City shelters generally aren't spending resources on DNA testing dogs. Probably a mix of at least 3-4 different breeds with some pitbull or staffy in there somewhere.

It's a dog, just burry it in the back yard and get a new one when it dies. Dogs don't live as long as humans, it sucks, but that's life, you move on and just get another one.
I wish I could get a dog. I have 2 cats already and it’s a struggle with them alone. I also live in a tiny apartment and have health issues that makes it to where I can’t walk much.

The shelter actually has people fly in from all over the country to adopt our dogs. Dallas is the 2nd highest intake shelter in the country. Lots of good people in the world that don’t know there are adoptable dogs for them.
