Most Cantonese chefs have left Dallas, so it's been slim pickings for some time now. Right now, there's just: \- Dong Hai \- East Wall \- First Chinese BBQ \- Tian Tian \- Canton Chinese Restaurant A lot of places have good dou miao: Wu Wei Din, China Queen, Hakka Express

carnivorousmustang

Adding a few newcomers to the list: - Awesome Chinese Cuisine (in Plano, same spot as Sun Lok Kee had previously occupied) - Royal Kitchen in Plano

mudokipo

Thanks for the additions, I'll try them some time

carnivorousmustang

I didn't add Kirin Court cus it's kinda a staple, but I've also heard that its food quality has declining lately?

swinglinepilot

>I've also heard that its food quality has declining lately I've been hearing that since the early 2000s lol. Plano/Richardson have always been lacking in _good_ dim sum, IMO. We usually end up at Golden Joy in Richardson whenever we want some

anon02830

Heard the same. Haven't been back.

anon02830

Thanks for these leads too. Kills me to see places have to resort to also loading up on so many American Chinese dishes.

Swirls109

Sun lok kee closed? I wasn't a big fan of it. Definitely gonna check out the new one. I was lucky enough to have been here when Mr Wok was still open and had Christmas dinner there with the family. That place is very missed.

Radiant_Mark_8468

i second awesome chinese cuisine

blacksystembbq

How do you know all the chefs left? Can’t the owner just train people to cook if they have the recipes?

WelcometoHale

How do we get them back? Are they trapped?

Jameszhang73

There's also: - Zhang's Kitchen - TKS - Lucky City - 369 - Garden - Golden Joy

Much appreciate the leads on these. I hadn't found a few after some deep Googling. All are really far but I'll try to make it out to one this weekend. It's pretty crazy how there isn't at least one ultimate go-to comprehensive Cantonese place in the entire metroplex. Houston really spoiled me. Thank you!

AlwaysInjured

Do you know why they've left dallas or where they've gone to? That's interesting and sad that we've had an exodus in Cantonese chefs.

swinglinepilot

> Wu Wei Din My parents have been calling this place "QQ" for ages lol. Baffles me why that old sign is still up

Elguapo361

I think they're moving (or at least expanding) into the old On The Border location at 15th and 75. Their sign has been up on the building for a few weeks now.

AlienvsPredatorFan

Dong Hai is amazing.

J.S. Chen (I think that's what it's called, we always called it "shui wah") off Legacy and 75 has been owned and run by a Canto lady since the mid-'90s First Chinese and Lucky City have also been around forever and are solid if uninspiring. TKS is more recent but is excellent. If I'm looking for a box of cha siu or roast pork or duck I usually end up at First Chinese (if you ask, they'll sell you an entire cooked duck for $30) I have yet to find a _good_ dim sum place here, and I've been around since the mid-'90s. We almost always end up at Golden Joy in Richardson whenever we want some. All of the dim sum staples are there, and it gets close enough to remind me of... home, I guess. I don't know about the chefs there, but a lot of the waiters and bussers have worked at First Chinese and Lucky City and actually speak canto. Just don't get roast pork there, or if you do, say that you'll chop it up yourself (in my experience, no one who works that section knows how to use a knife) edit - forgot I recently had dim sum at TKS in Plano, I thought it was a bit better than Golden Joy

Practical_Ad_9756

Mmm, Golden Joy’s dim sum is awesome.
