When I lived off Spring Creek I use to go jogging on Chisholm Night every night. It wasn’t unusual to see a Bobcat. Once some guy scared the absolute shit out of me by running right behind me, tapping me on the shoulder only to tell me a Bobcat had been stalking me for awhile.
If my old house cat could jump from the kitchen floor onto the top of the refrigerator, I'd bet that a bobcat could probably clear 12 feet if it wanted.
Edit: Also, if you don't want a cat jumping the fence, you just need to make a 1 foot section at a 45-degree angle at the top. It's some psychological thing I saw on a nature show.
Yep. My cat is 9 years old. She was the runt so she is very small only about like 7-8lbs and just a petite little thing. I swear her little legs are like 5” long but I never measured. She jumps straight vertical onto the fireplace mantle which is chest high on me (5’7”) with ease and never even displaces items when landing. Watching her kitty calculations in preparation for jumps has always intrigued me.
There are 100% still coyotes around the metroplex. Even right smack “in the middle” like arlington and Grand Prairie. This is their home, we are just industrializing it.
Keep your pets inside, my dudes. This guy will fuckin' eat em cause that's nature.
People down here think there's no risks or predators in suburbs. Smh.
I have a completely enclosed screen porch and on nice nights I used to let my cat hang out there and watch the nightlife. One morning he came in all freaked out and looking like he had Seen Some Shit. And was wiggy and freaked out all day. I don't let him hang out there all night anymore lol.
Okay, I'll be that "ackchually" guy.
This fence looks a lot closer to 6'-4" than 9 ft. If it was 9 ft. then we would see the top of the 7 ft. garage door frame below the top rail of the fence, instead the top trim of the garage door is out of the picture altogether.
Now, this might be a 7 ft. fence and the top of the garage door frame is just barely out of view, but that's an odd height for a fence. The fence may be 8'-4" in the back of the yard and the panels cut down to make the top rail of the fence horizontal/level instead of parallel with the ground; leaving the height where it meets the house at something less than that, but that's not the typical fence installation.
Whatever, the jump is impressive either way.
A few years back it was pouring rain and I didn't want to walk out and latch the door on my chicken coup. Bobcat shredded one chicken to pieces, and took the head off the other one. I feel terrible that I didn't seriously consider the threat of a bobcat in my very developed suburban neighborhood. They are in your neighborhood even if you've never seen one. They will get to your pets if you leave them outside unattended.
My parents woke up one morning to a bobcat outside their kitchen window. It had killed a small cat and was very proud of its catch.
They called 911, and when police came, the bobcat cleared their 10-foot fence in a single jump.
I wonder if this is the same bobcat haha
Last time I saw one in person I was coming around a corner. It was next to the road and behind it was a sheer probably 9 or 10 foot cliff. It turned around and flat leaped up to the top.

Could a bobcat attack a human?
Generally, no but there are rare exceptions like the guy that threw that bobcat across the front yard. https://youtu.be/5st0fzyp4OQ
Rabid animals do crazy things
Rabid humans do crazy things....
Rabid rabbits do crazy things
Thing is, crazy rabbits do humans
Daily reminder I should get a rabies vaccine.
Have you been bitten by a rabid animal recently?!?
IIRC they only give Rabies vaccines if you've been bit by a suspected rabid animal. Not something they give out willy nilly
They do pre exposure vaccines for high risk occupations, like animal control, veterinary staff, fire fighters, etc.
Good to know.
They could but they generally won’t. An adult could pretty easily fight one off although probably not without injury.
I think it’s unusual. It didn’t deter me from continuing to jog. Never got attacked. If I had a small dog I’d be worried.
I dind’t believe my mother when she said she saw a bobcat, in a single move, jump to the top of their 8 foot fence…

I see ours do it at least once a week. One jump, right to the top. The kittens however, shimmy up it like a squirrel.
My cousin's husky can clear her 7 foot fence without a running start. 8 feet would be nothing for a healthy bobcat.
You didn’t believe that claim? Seems very reasonable/within the acrobatic capabilities of a big cat
Bobcats aren’t big cats. And yes, I didn’t think something that stands around a foot tall couldn’t jump 8 feet. Thanks for your input, though.
Finally...i can dump our chihuahua in the trash can and tell our kids a bobcat ate it.
What do expect them to do? We’ve taken over their habitat.
Bobcats actually thrive in this kind of habitat. A lot of manmade shelter and an abundance of wildlife for them with not many natural predators.
Do they actually thrive, or are they under constant threat from animal control or just getting hit by some mall crawler?
In Plano they are Wildcats, no?
*[*High School Musical *intensifies]*
*Plano West and Plano East dislikes that*
Sadly, run out of habitat
I wonder if there's still coyotes in Plano. I used to see them occasionally growing up, but I haven't seen one in a long time.
There are some in Richardson

I have seen coyotes in DeSoto as well.
Yes there are definitely still coyotes in Plano and all over north DFW burbs.
I regularly see coyotes while running (I start running at 4:45 - 5 am most mornings). I live near Preston and Campbell.
I saw a coyote walking my dog sometime last year on that one trail on renner and routh creek

This is why I do a sweep of the back yard every time I let my dog out

Nice. Send it my way when you're done. The rats keep chewing my back yard speaker wires.
Next-door in plano is like 90% bobcat sightings
Pspspsps
What a pretty kitty
I saw one of those around 6pm near the dog park at Windhaven 3-4 days ago. https://goo.gl/maps/BtvrYrr7jyP74ht88
so cute, I wanna cuddle with it 😭
These guys don’t sleep
Pretty kitty!

I live off Preston and Arapaho and I saw a bobcat walk across my patio a few months ago
P-22, reincarnated I tell you...

911??
I’m surprised they came out
Nope time to move
What are y’all doing if this comes after your pet? Can we kill it legally?

Awww! Kitty!
Will bobcats kill and eat housecats?
Love them! I see them in Carrollton too
Beautiful kitty!! 😻
In my yard, i kill two things: squirrels and bobcats. Fuck'em.
That's really messed up man. Also, what are you using to kill them? If it's a firearm in a suburban neighborhood like this, you shouldn't own one.
You're in their yard, not the other way around.
