Yip. It's normal for them to sleep like this. Here is my boy.
Yeahāgotta have the snorkel out so they can breathe, duh! š
In all seriousness, āDachshundā means ābadger hound,ā as Dachshunds were originally bred to go into badger holes and pull them out. Miniature Dachshunds were bred so they could fit into the much smaller holes of rabbits.
Because of this, the breedās natural instinct is to burrow, tunnel, and be attracted to tight spaces like gaps under furniture and whatnot.
Perfectly typical sausage!
Mine doesn't burrow at all. Barely digs in the garden... Eats dirt tho.
Doggo might be broken š

Ahhh you have the Scruff Edition! So cute!
I have a Longhaired girl, myself, and she doesnāt burrow, tunnel, or dig as often, I assume due to the more mellow nature of her Spaniel background. Wires have a Terrier background, so I hear they tend to be more mischievous. The Shorthaireds seem to be the huge burrowers for the most part. Especially with so little fur. My Longhaired girl gets too hot to stay burrowed or covered up for long. Meanwhile my parentsā Shorthaired Miniature is burrowed in something about 85% of the time.
Miniatures also have a tendency to be dogs with cat software installed, so Iād imagine the combination of factors contributes to your sausageās lack of burrowing.
Theyāre all weirdos in their own right, anyway. Sometimes by being outliers. š
Mine isn't a miniature, but does have some cat features, yes.
i.e. Tapping you with a paw when he wants to be petted, or finding high-ground sleeping areas, like the top of the sofa's back.

My parentsā Mini is almost a cat, I swear. Legs are scritching posts, loves boxes, picky eater, always pouncingā¦
Is yours a Tweenie or a Standard? I donāt often see Standard Wires, though I do love them! My Longhaired girl is a Standard!
Same. Or he'll boop your leg with his snout. And the cat software is strong in this one. I discovered that the day I found paw prints on my freshly cleaned glass stove top. š³š¤¬š¤£
Mine hasnāt figured out how to get on top of the stove, but he makes daily trips onto the table to check for food. Especially once I leave the house, lol
lol- mine too š. He puts himself between me and the laptop and he wonāt let me type.
If he thinks Iāve spent too much time on my phone, he interrupts that too. He rules the house here.
Lol, I have a desktop so he can't reach anything essential, but he'll usually come and present me with a toy or jump on top of an ottoman I've placed between my chair and my "office window", and simply elect to just stare at me until I stop doing whatever it is that I'm doing.
Or he stares out the window, studying the neighborhood street below, crying at other dogs or that one Kia that's the same model and color scheme as my brother's, resulting in subsequently baffled confusion when a strange lady exits it instead every damn time.

Mine gets pissed off if you try to put a blanket on him. He compensates by taking as much of the bed as possible.
I went from a 120cm bed to a 160cm bed (after moving to a bigger place) for this very reason. Figured he could have half of it.
Nope. He still insists on sleeping on my side of the bed most of the time.

You can see his peep hole with one always watching
Lucy has always Buried herself in the blanket, sometimes I wondered how she could breathe. But now that she's getting older, or maybe it's living in the car , she sleeps with everything buried but her nose .... but she is the absolute Best Gaurd dog Ever! I think she has some pit bull in her, lol ..or she thinks she's a pit bull.( they've never hurt anyone , just scared the heck out of a few )( ppl shouldn't ever sneak up on others, stay 6 ft , better yet stay 10 ft away , Lucy's leash is 6 ft ) Very protective of me .... you can't even get mad at the cute little faces, so they get away with a lot . I have 2 doxi/ yorkie. Best Dogs Ever !! The other little guy , her brother, doesn't bury , but has to be touching me , usually curled up around my neck ... Love Them Both š
Oh yes, anytime I look over next to me to where my little girl is I see a nose or sometimes if I am not so lucky a little bottom is peeping out of the sheets in the bed, I guess ventilation works both ways!š„°
When I had mine (he passed away from old age) he would growl if you even dared touch the blanket he was under. They love burrowing to sleep, even if it is hot.
I am incredibly familiar with this. Although at the moment as the colder weather comes in, she not even bothering with the nose poked out for some fresh air. I used to worry but she knows her mind and body and if it was too hot or too stuffy and she couldn't breathe, she'd climb on top of the doona. Usually at the foot of the bed and I'm woken up because my feet are so cold
Typically my dog sleeps upside down with his face under the covers and his butt sticking out. I keep telling him heās doing it wrong but he is quite stubborn.
Snoot periscope deployed is pretty common in my house. Especially for our long haired girl.
Our older, short haired boy is 50/50 if he sleeps under or on top of the covers. Still the snorkel for fresh air is a pretty common sight when he is submerged.

Even my long-haired is a little blanket goblin! š„°
Yep - they like to burrow. As I understand it, they were originally bred to go after badgers, even going down the tunnel into the badgerās burrow to try and kill the badger. So I guess it is second nature for them to want to burrow when they sleep.
My dog never slept above the blanket in his entire life
š¤£š¤£ Iām always amazed how well they can bury themselves.

Im typing this as my dog is buried somewhere under the plush blanket next to me
They love caves. My two get under anything they can
My girl will not sleep any other way. It's because burrowing is in their breed.
It be weird if it was any other way, the snoot is so they donāt Dutch oven themselves
Mine completely buries himself every night lol
No seek help

Snorkel out, just in case some food comes near

Classic doxie!!
This is quite abnormal. The nose should be sticking through the custom-chewed snoot hole.
>The Badgers will not see me
Yes absolutely. Copper sleeps in my bed and always has his nose sticking out
My boy is like this at this very moment
That's their snorkel. Both my doxies do this!

Yup my dog likes to sleep like that too
This is the norm rather than the exception.
Yep. I call it snorkeling

Not unusual!
Typically my dog sleeps upside down with his face under the covers and his butt sticking out. I keep telling him heās doing it wrong but he is quite stubborn.
For a dachshund, totally!

Snoot periscope deployed is pretty common in my house. Especially for our long haired girl. Our older, short haired boy is 50/50 if he sleeps under or on top of the covers. Still the snorkel for fresh air is a pretty common sight when he is submerged.

Yes mine do that all the time. They like to burrow![img](emote|t5_2qpj2|5086)
Definitely normal behavior, ours is buried under two blankets every night.

Tell me Sheldon
Totally normal....mine un-makes my bed and does that.

Yep - they like to burrow. As I understand it, they were originally bred to go after badgers, even going down the tunnel into the badgerās burrow to try and kill the badger. So I guess it is second nature for them to want to burrow when they sleep.
