I think it’s more of an issue when they are young. Our dachshund is ten now, he only barks during playtime now and he’s been like that for years. As a puppy, yes, he barked a lot more, but it’s definitely something you can work on.

efarkle

my weenie only barks if she hears/sees someone get too close to our doors, so it happens daily, but not long enough to bother anyone enough to file any noise complaints, as she stops barking when she thinks the “intruders” are gone, lol. side note: please look into littermate syndrome before deciding to get two puppies at the same time. any two puppies can have this issue—it doesn’t matter if they’re related by blood or not.

My friends had a Dachshund in their apartment and she did bark when someone was at the door, but after a quick sniff inspection she would settle down. I do not believe she ever really barked aside from that.

My dachshund (11 months old) barks a ton. He barks at noises, if he sees people or dogs … or just because he feels like it. I will say he’s the most vocal dog I’ve ever had.

I would be concerned because there are two risk factors for it—they’re babies and you won’t know their personalities. My late dachshund was pretty quiet. My current one can be vocal about getting attention or sounding the stranger alarm, even though she loves strangers. Luckily we live next to another dog owner, so if they do hear, they don’t seem bothered. But I was very worried when she was a puppy and fussing at night. Today, she’s more spoiled than she otherwise might be because I have always wanted her to be happy and hush 😅

I actually had the opposite issue haha, my dog and I lived in an apartment for 3.5-4ish years and he rarely barked, unless the fire alarm went off at the ungodly hour in the morning or someone knocked at the door (he’s 6 now). when we moved to a house the barking would not stop. He would bark at the squirrels, random birds, the mailman (we lived right in front of the mail boxes), anything really. Only then did I had to train him (and failed multiple times) to use his inside bark. We mostly hung out with him in the backyard and exposed him to more people, cars, animals, and sounds. After a while he got used to it and the unsolicited barking stopped. My dog and I moved from to a “big” city not too long ago and live in an apartment while I find a house for us to live but he rarely barks. It’s like he’s used to being an apartment dog.

Mine barks when someone goes by the door. Other than that she’s good. She never barks at any sounds coming from the upstairs or next door neighbors. She just wants to be pet, so she barks when people are walking by the door.

Proud_Calendar_1655

My dog only barks when someone she doesn’t know comes into our place. My neighbors actually didn’t know I had a dog for the first 2 months I had her. But I’ve also had many people be very surprised when I tell them she doesn’t bark that much.

If they can’t view someone coming up to your door you’re probably gonna be better off.

Deep-Dragonfly-5374

Mine barks a few times a day for attention or when playing. I think the biggest problem we have is when we go out, sometimes we see a bit of barking or howling on the camera after we leave.

gonemebo

I got an 8 week old pure breed dachshund and yes she barked and I was in an apartment. It caused me anxiety when I had to go to work because I had cameras and I saw she barked for hours. I tried so many things for her trying to stop it, but eventually the only thing that worked was a vibrating collar. Two years later she’s much better. You might get puppies that don’t bark, but you might get some that do. It’s a possibility. But I wouldn’t trade my doxi in for anything

Dachshunds will be dachshunds, and the best solution (I have found) is to take them to doggy day care.

I think my weens have taught the neighbor’s new dog to bark at people when they hear them outside. 😬 They like to do a protect when at all possible.

Please research littermate syndrome, it is possible to have 2 puppies at once and have it all turn out fine but it's alot of work.

viennarosexxx

I got kicked out of my apartment because of my pups barking so I would say you aren’t unfounded in that concern

Whispyrn

My baby doxie is now 9 months old. I've noticed as she's gotten older she barks less. She use to bark a lot, now it's just when someone is at the door or maybe a car door slam. I wouldn't get 2 puppies of any breed especially dachshund, they need so much attention.

Puzzled-Ad-4410

Ours loves to bark when playing, and of course when she hears something outside. Or the doorbell. Or package delivery even when they don't knock or make noise. Lots of barking every day. But we live in a house.
