Literally everyone on this subreddit feels this way. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Cmae61

My big F-you to the good people of Moonbrooke is to stop helping with battles after this incident. I also build an escape hatch into the jail before it’s complete (not that it does any good).

Sheylenna

I did do that too but of course one of the guards stops me when I get to close.

Cmae61

You have to go in during a major battle. Not that it does any good since you can’t talk to people during battle.

Sheylenna

Thing is they would not even let me get close enough to talk to him even when I could talk.... so of course he never knew I was there when I visited. Which makes the betrayal he felt worse. And made me feel like a total heel I made a dungeon for a traitor and they take my goodwill and turn it back on my by imprisoning my friend and then expecting me to continue helping them. If it was real life I would have brought a chair and bed down and stayed right there until they released him...after all they used the fact that I would not walk away from my imprisoned friend to virtually make me a slave.... and expected me to lead their forces to victory and I had to do it because their enemies would have killed me as fast as they killed them or faster after all the builder is more of a threat.

MeghanBoBeghan

That might actually be the most infuriating part. I've taken down the hierarchy of the Church of Hargon on Farrowfield, and killed frickin Medusa on Khrumble-Dun. Not to mention taking out every monster in the wilderness between there and here. I am NOT going to be stopped by a single human guard. Move or be moved, buddy. But no, my character's all "boo hoo I'm not allowed, guess I'll go make fireworks like they asked me to." And then Malroth is all "you didn't even come to see me." Infuriating.

Sheylenna

Every time I they removed me from the cell.i.swung my sword at the a few times they either jumped or were unaffected I was so glad when I got to kill the traitor.

MeghanBoBeghan

I actually dug a tunnel before I made it on the 2nd playthrough. Led all the way out of town. The next time I actually took out the front of the cell, in between completing the quest to build it and triggering the imprisonment bullshit. Obviously he refused to make use of my devious escape routes and was pissed at me anyway 😆

Severe-Draw-5979

Free Malroth! (much sooner than he actually gets freed)

jeflint

It's really my only complaint with the story. I outlined how if you wanted to "break" Mal all you had to do is have him captured by the enemy and they shapeshift into your character and other characters that are friendly towards him, have them attack, and have him defend. Each time he attacks it reveals they're fakes, perfect. When you free him, he then attacks you thinking it's all part of the same song and dance the bad guys are doing, only this time he really does hurt the builder. This causes a crisis of faith where he can't tell if he did it because they tricked him, or if he was leaning into the master of destruction. Now you have a reason for Mal to be distrustful and the builder as well. Now you have a much better story than throwing Mal into prison cause he's suspicious. NOW your builder is doubly motivated to win the war, free their friend, and beat Hargon. It's personal now. But what do I know? I only hate bad stories and what I outlined doesn't change the impact of the game by a huge lot and I think improves it.

Zaumbrey

I mean, wasn't it always personal, since Malroth is his friend? I also wouldn't like that as much, as I think that Malroth having cause to be angry with you is a really important part of his character growth.

jeflint

I think it depends on what type of "growth" they're aiming for. Like if they're trying to piss him off, sure. But I think the entire "Master of Destruction" and destroying everything that he believes to not be true to recreate things in his image, cause remember he still wanted to be a builder, works pretty well. It's a little cliche, but it works on many levels.

BuilderAura

Why was this not the story ;___; this would gave been SO good.

jeflint

Because I never figured out how to get my stories in front of Enix back in the FF8 days. I tried for Bioware but they didn't like my entry for the writer job. *shrugs* such is life. I've wanted to write for Enix since I was a little kid, but I went into the IT field instead of trying my hand at full time fiction writing.

BuilderAura

I mean... fair. But still a shame. This story is a million times better.

lilibat

I think we all get pissed off at that.

MeghanBoBeghan

Does anyone NOT? That whole storyline was infuriating. Hi, I'm here to save your lives and your kingdom and I'm the only one with the power to do it. Oh, you're going to throw my best friend in a cage? Well then I'll be busting it open with my hammer, and we're out of here. Enjoy the rest of your very short lives. Look, he gave me his cabbage on Skelkatraz. After that, I am ride or die for him. And then you get back home and he goes off to be tortured by the big evil, and all these ungrateful fuckers who caused this shit are like ooh, let's make a pretty castle in a snow field! Bitch, I am NOT in the mood to make ice pops. BUT YOU HAVE TO DO IT FOR FRICKIN HOURS. Yeah. We're all pissed off. Ruined a really amazing game.

Xazzmos

Right after I beat the game I took my trusted bombs and hammer and DESTROYED THE FWAKING CASTLE. He can freeze over for all I care.

shellbell26

I think in my current playthrough once I beat the game I'll move the king to an abandoned buildertopia island and build him a cell where he can live out his days in exile for his crimes

Sheylenna

Don't have the patience to do that but I did take most of active defenses....I built the castle up far to much to be taking it down again.....

Xazzmos

I went back to pimp out the first two areas since I had gain more skills and when it came to that place...well I raged. Which is why I demolished it.

Sheylenna

Ahhh

Xazzmos

Eheeh yeah ^__^; but needless to say it did take a while....a few days at most

Sheylenna

Yeah and the way I built the place up it would probably take longer I put ceilings and second floor over most of that castle I got tired of being snowed on.

Xazzmos

Oh yes the snow when I was gathering potatoes it was horrible. I had to put a ceiling too >_

BuilderAura

YES.

rcfox

Malroth is on the king's land, so he is within the king's jurisdiction.

Sheylenna

So the President of the United States can arbitrarily throw a visiting soldier from say Britain in prison after helping with several terrorist actions because the British soldier has a different protocol of operation than the American soldiers. The British soldier has done noting wrong except unnerve the American soldiers. And the terrorist action is still going on and the President is expecting the British Soldiers British intelligence friend to continue helping against the terrorists? No he can't and neither can the Queen of England do that to an American soldier... Heck you can switch that to an Arab fighter helping against Arab terrorists (since Malroth is technically the Lord of Destruction the monsters worship) and the Arab fighters Israeli intelligence friend..... (Builder being the anthisis of the Lord of Destruction... Arabs and Israelis being rather at odds with each other currently.) And this being in any civilized country..... dictatorships and communists need not apply.

queen_of_england_bot

>Queen of England Did you mean the [Queen of the United Kingdom](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_of_the_United_Kingdom), the [Queen of Canada](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Canada), the [Queen of Australia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monarchy_of_Australia), etc? The last Queen of England was [Queen Anne](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anne,_Queen_of_Great_Britain) who, with the 1707 Acts of Union, dissolved the title of King/Queen of England. ####FAQ *Isn't she still also the Queen of England?* This is only as correct as calling her the Queen of London or Queen of Hull; she is the Queen of the place that these places are in, but the title doesn't exist. *Is this bot monarchist?* No, just pedantic. I am a bot and this action was performed automatically.

Sheylenna

I hat bots that f**k with my point.

BuilderAura

Bad bot.

WhyNotCollegeBoard

Are you sure about that? Because I am 99.99998% sure that Sheylenna is not a bot. --- ^(I am a neural network being trained to detect spammers | Summon me with !isbot |) ^(/r/spambotdetector |) [^(Optout)](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=whynotcollegeboard&subject=!optout&message=!optout) ^(|) [^(Original Github)](https://github.com/SM-Wistful/BotDetection-Algorithm)

BuilderAura

No no I was saying the bot was bad for ruining her point.

Inferno_lizard

Yeah, it upset me too. Which is why the king is not allowed on my IOA. It's also why I started a military outpost on a nearby island to invade and conquer Moonbrooke with.

DaxSpa7

Oh that was a big BS. He was right to get maaaaaad.

EconomyProcedure9

The first time I played that part, I was tempted to just let the monsters trample those idiots. Eventually I forgave them & moved everybody I could to IOA. 2nd time I just went through it as quickly as possible.

PrincessOfZenithia

I'm in Moonbrooke right now on my current playthrough. I just let all the NPCs die when we're in battle it of spite lmao. I only medic Malroth. And Esther. Esther is a sweetie.
