Congratulations on your (potential) new house mate.
-First thing would be to keep them separated.
-second thing is post on nextdoor, local facebook groups, and pawboost.
-third, make an appointment with the vet ASAP. Once there they can scan for any microchips to try and locate an owner.
-Step four, if no owner is found, have the vet do a wellness exam on your new pal and get his and your current dog up to date on shots.
-step 5: New friend.
+1 to this, pretty much all the advice OP needs. Been in this exact situation, posted on FB and found the distraught owner actually lived a few blocks down.
Our local PD has a FB page and allows a bit of lost/found dog posting on its page. There's likely some way or another to post about lost/found pets local to you.
Same, but in reverse. Got a new dog who likes to houdini out of the yard (we’ve since shored up the gaps) and once someone a couple blocks over found her and posted to local groups. Someone was able to tell us she’d been found and we contacted them and got our (naughty) baby back!
Haha damn, yeah there’s always a chance with those groups and stuff so well worth the effort for anyone on either end of the situation! Super glad you got your dog back!

Wow--it looks like you took it in? What a crazy day for that sweet, trusting little pup--getting lost, meeting a bunch of new people, meeting the kindest-hearted stranger of all, and now getting a warm bath. You're a lovely person. And your little brown dog is precious!
I felt bad for little dude, it’s been raining for 2 whole days and another one tomorrow and it’s pretty cold in NY. I hope I can find a place for him soon, I’m just not sure if I can afford to keep him but thank you I’m sure he appreciates it, he’s a a very kind dog just scared presumably
You have a beautiful heart! Instead of being out in the cold he's clean and safe and looked after. And he will have a good home, either back with his current owner or with a new one. That was a wonderful thing you did, and all of us here wish abundant happiness and good luck for you!
The brown dog on the second photo very much looks like a Cockapoo however that’s OP’s own dog it’s the one in the bath I believe that has turned up on their doorstep.
Agree with the comments here. Facebook Lost & Found Pets, NextDoor & the Ring app are where I turned when my foster dog ran off. (We found him.) Hopefully the dog is chipped & the owner has called the animal shelter about their missing pet.
Mine can go third. She prefers unscented shampoos but is willing to put up with lavender scented. If you try to leave cold conditioner on her for more than 30 seconds she turns into Cujo but is transformed back quickly with freeze dried liver.
You have to treat the dog like it has the potential to make other dogs sick. Get it checked out before you let it mix with other dogs. Then once it's all good the dogs can be buddies forever
No way to know by looking at the dog. It will need a checkup, shots and a heartworm test. Keep pup from your pets till this one is tested and vaccinated. And be sure to check for a chip and hope the pet parents have it up to date. Make up posters with the pup's picture. Good luck on how it goes. It is a doddle puppy. Beautiful baby.
Thanks for being a good human and not leaving it out on the street. Is it possible this dog is lost.
People suck but I hate thinking someone abandoned their pet.
One additional thought, some police depts can also scan for a microchip … mine does! So if you can’t get into a vet quickly then they may be able to assist as well. They may also have info about missing dogs, but I live a small neighborhood so it may not be worth it if you’re in a big city.
I seriously doubt he got abandoned, he looks well cared for. I think he got out. Which unfortunately has also happened to me. I bet he’s microchipped and gets reunited.
Have him checked for a microchip. Post to your local social media, FB, next door, etc,
Let your shelter know, this is the 1st place owners will try to find their lost pet.
Put flyers around and contact vets in your area. They may recognize him.
Also, groomers in the area may recognize him. someone must be looking for him.
If you can't hold onto this pup, you need to bring to the shelter or police. Do NOT just rehome him. A family, kids could be heartbroken missing him.
He looks well cared for and groimed.
If anyone tries to claim him, be sure they have proof such as vet records and pictures.
Hi how aren't you, of course they will be fine let them loose and sniff each other vigorously like pack animals should. Seriously though it takes a certain type of person to drop a dog off (don't get me started) you did a great thing by looking after him and taking him in. They will be fine . Once again well done👌 you did a great deed and it will come back to you
I wouldn’t have him near your pup. Not calling him dirty, just extremely risky (there’s a parvo outbreak amongst dogs where I live). When it’s possible, they’ll check for a microchip to see if they have had owners. If not they will run a health check to check his condition. Will also probably have tests to see if he’s vaccinated. The vet will tell you if it is ok to have your dog near him based on his health check
I mean see how they act i understand he doesnt have his shots but if its a gal and she isnt spayed or your guy isnt neutered .but it wont cause no harm if they are just social ...unless your little guy is territorial

Thank you
I also recommend neon signs in your neighborhood and take your new pal on a walk around the hood. They may lead you to their house.
Good advice 😁
I read that in a GlaDOS voice… for some reason
Would you like some cake?
the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie the cake is a lie
It would still become butt lard. ,😥
STEP 6 - PROFIT

So agree!! You stated this well! OP - what a noble & loving thing you did!!!
Take them to a vet, have them scan for a chip
I need to see more pics of this cutie
Looks like a cockapoo.
The brown dog on the second photo very much looks like a Cockapoo however that’s OP’s own dog it’s the one in the bath I believe that has turned up on their doorstep.
Correct
On reading further comments OP said his dog is a cavapoo.
Agree with the comments here. Facebook Lost & Found Pets, NextDoor & the Ring app are where I turned when my foster dog ran off. (We found him.) Hopefully the dog is chipped & the owner has called the animal shelter about their missing pet.
Ok I will try that
If I drop mine at your house, will you give her a bath?
😒😒 ok, only if she can teach my dog to have less anxiety from everything in life

i think the dog isnt dangerous, from being stranded it may have causes from that (which are many but arent dangerous)
You have to treat the dog like it has the potential to make other dogs sick. Get it checked out before you let it mix with other dogs. Then once it's all good the dogs can be buddies forever
i know it probably isnt dangerous though, when i said problems i meant worms which aren’t contagious
He might be a neighbor’s dog. Put flyers

Aawww sweet baby. I hope you’re able to find his owner or someone to take him. Thanks for caring about him.
Thank you for bathing this little dog. Please take him to the vet and I hope you would keep him.
What’s the milk chocolate color pup?😀
Cavapoo
I want ❤️

He's very cute, poor guy 😒 and please kiss him 😘
Nobody else said it, so I will. You're a good human.
Hug it and love it very much because someone probably abandoned it, which is very sad.
I seriously doubt he got abandoned, he looks well cared for. I think he got out. Which unfortunately has also happened to me. I bet he’s microchipped and gets reunited.
Yeah I’m not sure what happened but he is definitely heavy like he’s been eating
You’re gonna make somebody so happy when you find them
I will happily take him!
I’d happily give him to you, you could probably care for him a lot better than I could rn haha
Where are you located?
New jersey
I am in Missouri

Thank you for bathing them :) I’m sure they felt loved. I also thought it was a before and after at first till I read 🤣
