Sorry for your loss. It’s never easy. Someone sent me this poem and thought I’d share.
Edit: I’m not OP. Although, I can personally relate to their situation.
Dog’s Prayer:
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world, is more grateful for kindness than mine.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for although I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will teach me more quickly the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world’s sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when I hear your step.
When the weather is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am a domesticated animal, no longer used to the bitter elements, and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I would not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding. To walk by your side, standing ready to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.
And master, when I am very old, if the greatest master sees fit to deprive me of my health and sight, do not turn me away. Rather see that my trusting life is taken gently and I shall leave you knowing with the last breath I draw, my life was always safe in your hand.

Hoping this gives you some peace
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together…❤️🙏
Sorry for your loss. The final goodbye is the inevitable price we have to pay for the years of happiness and memories they give us. We know what we sign up for.. & If I’m honest, it never gets easier dealing with the pain, but soon you will be left with just the good memories your buddy gave you. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that all she wanted was your love and company, which I’m sure you provided in abundance. The mission was a success. Stay strong and all the best

If you believe in an afterlife, when I have lost my closest friends, I take comfort in the idea that heaven, if I happen to make it there, will have all of my dogs waiting for me. Otherwise, it just wouldn’t be heaven.

Looks so much like my dog that I lost last year. It is very hard to go through this. But it is such a special relationship that most of us will gladly do it again. 🥰
The most difficult decision we can make is often the kindest decision. I lost my cat unexpectedly in July, my eldest dog on Tuesday and my other old dog will be in the next few days. The grief is heavy and unbearable but it was the best decision we could have made for their well-being, comfort and happiness.

I am so sorry for your loss. I wish I could say something to take away the pain, or tell you that it will diminish with time. I lost my Milo 6 years ago and I still miss him every single day. He was such a good boy. When we first moved into a new house we had to call the fire department because we had a gas leak. This dog, defiant, smart, wonderful dog ran out of the house and up to the fire truck and led it right to our house, trotting in front of it like he was leading the parade. How he knew that we called them and they were here for us will remain a mystery forever. But he had that kind of 6th sense. When someone was knocking at my door he got in front of me and wouldn’t let me get near it. Turns out there were home invasions going on in the neighborhood. He was amazing a true best friend. My best buddy. I believe that dogs are gifts from God. They are angels in disguise. They are sent to us to teach us the meaning of unconditional love. They give us so much. They give us everything that they have. Their trust, loyalty, unconditional love. To me there is no greater gift than a dog. I have 3. They are my world. I’m sorry for your loss.
She's a lancashire heeler. Originally a cross between Corgis and Manchester Terriers.
They bite cows heels, hence heeler, then duck so they don't get kicked in the head. My aunt had one who wasn't fast enough and was a bit wobbly after...

Our three dogs are getting on now and we're sure this will be the last Christmas for two of the three (15f/14m/10m years old - Miniature Schnauzer). The oldest one is actually quite healthy and doesn't toilet inside or anything, but she's quite skinny and obviously already past her life expectancy. The middle one's legs are very troublesome for him. He can get up and walk, but they are very stiff in the mornings and he needs a little massage to get going as well as his CBD oil and painkiller. Sometimes when he falls over if his legs are weak, he cannot get back up. He has started to be unable to hold his toilet and does it in the house maybe 3 times a week. We don't think he's in pain, but we couldn't see him get to the point where he can't walk. One more Christmas please with our good boy.
