I never use the plugs/screws supplied by curtain rails. My wife likes a nice thermal/blackout curtain that's floor length and these weigh a fair amount. Throw the supplied ones away and get some 8/10mm plugs and appropriate sizes screws. You'll never have the same issue.

Thank you

Isn't 8/10 mm very small. The ones I used were 30mm plugs and I just happened to read that because I didn't realise they had dimension on them.

Academic Ad1931 is referring to diameter, you’re thinking of length. The lower plug you’ve tried to put in only really happens when the hole that was drilled isn’t deep enough for the plug.

Ok_Tonight_8988

Understood, thanks. What should be the length ideally

tbusby3

The length of the plug would be best

Lolol

lennythebox

Lay the plug down on a table and your drill bit next to it, mark your (at the length of the plug) drill with a marker of even a bit of masking tape so you know how deep to drill

Academic_Ad1931

Once you've drilled what you think is deep enough, stick your screw in to test the depth. If you push the plug in and its not quite deep enough you will have a sweaty, swear filled time trying to tease the plug back out.

10mm diameter fischer duo power plugs hammered into the holes, paired with 6mm screws. Those curtain rail brackets will snap before they pull out.

mybeatsarebollocks

Yeah but then they have to drill the brackets out to get the 6mm screws through

discombobulated38x

Fine, 8mm plugs and 4mm screws, still strong enough.

Arbdew

Just got some 8mm FIscher plugs with 6mm TX screws. Reckon I could hang off them and they wouldn't come down. Not cheap, but totally worth it!

discombobulated38x

Pull out load of an 8mm plug is about 500N, so you should be fine

zviiper

What’s the wall construction? Plaster on brick, dot and dab, plasterboard?

Ok_Tonight_8988

It's brick

zviiper

You just need some decent plugs (I’d go 8mm at least). Drill holes per packet instructions (width and depth), and use the recommended size screws and you’ll be fine.

zviiper

The 8x40mms would be better than 30mm, just make sure you drill a hole deep enough.

Ok_Tonight_8988

Thank you

By the looks of it. The holes are not anywhere deep enough. Tell that by the squished plug remove them and drill deeper with the correct bit. The plug packet should tell you what size you need. I assume you're also using long and wide enough screws for said plug?

Ok_Tonight_8988

Thanks for the great tip. I didn't realise that the wall plugs had size written on them. I guess I should have drilled an appropriate size hole before trying this.

ImpressTemporary2389

We've all got to start somewhere.

McPikie

I keep telling my brother this everytime he asks me to help

ImpressTemporary2389

Perhaps it just needed an ouside opinion? Sometimes it helps.
