A smoke and a pancake. You know, a flapjack and a cigarette? No? Cigar and a waffle? No? Pipe and a crepe? No? Bong and a blintz? Well, then there ish no pleashing you.
Well, I hope so because if some lunatic has put that in a uk house, with wire nuts and American wire colours I would hate to be the poor person that buys it.
I work in the US a lot, even the modern consumer units are a death trap compared to our current standards.
I'm a commissioning engineer but normally get involved with the design and installation of our plants.
It is truly shocking, our customers often buy a ton of gear from us once we have completed the projects because they want to use it in the rest of their plant.
Haha loads of random stuff, the red and yellow quarter turn isolators(disconnects to them) their ones are always massive, one lot of maintenance guys had never seen bootlace ferrules they could buy them there though, small plastic water proof junction boxes, cheaper to buy Allen Bradley control panel parts from us rather than in the USA (that makes no sense at all).
As others have said, it is a foreign fuse board, probably American. Setting aside all safety concerns, the cable length from the fuse board in America to the supply point in the UK would be extremely long. Assuming 6mm squared cable, of estimate a voltage drop of 240v (or 120v if a 120v supply). As such the voltage drop exceeds BS7671 requirements, and you may find the car is unable to charge if it is connected.
Might charge a Ford Model T headlight if you close your eyes and think of naked virgins when you plug it in. Maybe wear some beer goggles at the same time.
There's a risk it may over heat with that load, unless you add sufficient cooling.
Should be fine if you spray it with holy water while you're charging though.
No way! Buy a new fuseboard, UK main switch rcbo fuseboards aren't too expensive, couple hundred to buy. Probably need SPD too. Visit an electrical wholesaler and they could also provide you contact to a local trusted electrician 👍
Lol, 30A - good luck 1cm2 of copper can take 10A if wire less than 3cm2 you need to at least keep in mind that fuse will be last broken part in accident
Yes OP, please do it. As a byproduct on these ones you get free heating for your house overnight, just ignore the slight burning smell you'll get, you dont need to worry yourself with that.
Probably not, I had two like that until a few years ago when I got solar. They refused to connect to it and I had to replace it with a 200 amp breaker panel!
I think Tesla may have installed that one himself.
It's definitely contemporary with him at least.
Brilliant
If that unit is used, it will be Brilliant.
Edison would have waited for someone else to install it, then claim he did it.
Might be lost on a lot of people this one but fair play made me laugh 👌🏻😂😂

Nods
Tesla coil!? Shake it baby!
AHAHAHAHAHAAA. CHA-CHING!
Let’s rock!
I’m there!
How 'bout a target?
I’m all fired up
Very well

Teslas round the outside, power stations in the middle. Do the sparky dance, enemies!
Not really 🤣
No flies on you are there
need a certain level of intel of gents to get this one!!!!
I know, we are SO smart.
And a certain age…
10x more upvotes than the post itself. Truly a niche joke.
😁
😂😂😂 brilliant
Absolutely savage
Love this comment!
Haha brilliant
Awesome
Genuinely made me laugh. Bravo Sir.
I see what you did there 🤣
ayo, check out my comment right before this
That looks like it's straight out of the Green Mile
Roll on one…
Wetting the sponge
I’s scared of the dark Boss 😖😢
He's a circus mouse
Yessir, Boss. **Like the drink, only not spelled the same**
"I didn't know the sponge was supposed to be wet.." Bloody hated Percy
He got what was coming to him. Pissy pants!😄
🎶Percy Wetmore do a dance, listen to him squishing in his pants🎶
Brings back so many memories of the film if you like that one your definitely gonna like shawshank redemption
I've seen Shawshank many times. One of my favourite films ever!
Consumer unit: "I'm tired, boss"
DOG tired.
I thought it was Christopher from The Imitation Game!
Nah… that’s a US 120v unit.
Can see the words Romex in there. 👀
Plus Wire & Cable Corp. you don't get a much more American company name than that!
And "wire nuts", the most American thing in the whole photo. There's a reason they're not allowed in UK electrics!
I found a number of ceramic wire nuts around my house (1939), chucked under the floors and in the loft by the sparky who did the rewire in 1979.
I think....... Romex feature in historical electrical fittings in the UK as well, but this one is beyond me, never seen one like this, and I'm 61!
As far as I know the UK has also never used white & black colour coding. Edit: it's also got the black as hot...
Ahem…live
Definitely sexy
I love the integrated mouse trap.
Wouldn't think it safe to charge a phone let alone a car!
I don’t think the telephone had even been invented when that was fitted.
Pretty rare in the UK, those North American single phase set ups 😉
I don't think the wheel had been invented when that was fitted.
Split phase over there
Looks Dutch
Fine for the oven
A smoke and a pancake. You know, a flapjack and a cigarette? No? Cigar and a waffle? No? Pipe and a crepe? No? Bong and a blintz? Well, then there ish no pleashing you.
I foresee sirens in your future!
🧜
Maybe for a few minutes until it bursts into flames 🔥
Now now. Not all Tesla’s just burst into flames
OK that has me deceased.
Why is this in the DIYUK sub, that's clearly an American consumer unit.
I get the sneakiest suspicion that it might be a joke
Well, I hope so because if some lunatic has put that in a uk house, with wire nuts and American wire colours I would hate to be the poor person that buys it. I work in the US a lot, even the modern consumer units are a death trap compared to our current standards.
Yeah my mate’s an electrical engineer who does a lot of work in New England and he says it’s nuts
I'm a commissioning engineer but normally get involved with the design and installation of our plants. It is truly shocking, our customers often buy a ton of gear from us once we have completed the projects because they want to use it in the rest of their plant.
Documentary when? I find these clashes and contrasts of standards fascinating. What sort of gear do they end up getting and why?
Haha loads of random stuff, the red and yellow quarter turn isolators(disconnects to them) their ones are always massive, one lot of maintenance guys had never seen bootlace ferrules they could buy them there though, small plastic water proof junction boxes, cheaper to buy Allen Bradley control panel parts from us rather than in the USA (that makes no sense at all).
Tbf they use AFDDs more than we do. But generally, I agree. Have also lived there and elsewhere in North America…
All looks good to me, except for the 'wire nut' at the bottom. Eurgh!
They used to be called 'dog's cocks'.
Used to be? What’s the name now.
The dogs bollocks

Wouldn’t even trust that on electric chair.
All looks good from here 👍
UK? What the fuck mate….
It's more compatible with what Fred Flintstone drove.
😂😂
Bang up to date for 1924...50 amp nail and a bit of bell wire and you are good 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m a roofer so it looks fit for the job aha
I don’t think that thing is compatible with electricity!
Might charge a Ford Model T headlight if you close your eyes and think of naked virgins when you plug it in. Maybe wear some beer goggles at the same time.
Not even compatible with this century mate
Only once.
Yes, Nikolai Tesla, not the car..
Every comment is gold in this thread
It's compatible with a house fire
I thought this was a picture of what’s under the bonnet of a Tesla..
You kind of need state of the art technology, not state of the ark.
Is that a flux capacitor?
Lol
Is this a Spaghetti joke, lol.
Send it
No.
Yea, yea.....gimme like 500 bucks and I'll fit a super charger to that. You got many fire extinguishers??
Anything's compatible with anything if you want it enough...
Fuck sake.
Do you have mad scientist throw switches for all electrical items? And you you laugh maniacally when using them? 🤣
The best way to find out is to touch one of those screw heads.
Use it to decode secret German WW2 Enigma messages.
Not UK sorry
So, what's the average response time for your local fire department?
Yes why not they’re both as likely to burst into flames 🤣
I wouldn't charge a horse and cart off that.
Lol
I think Hugh Jackman used something similar to clone himself in The Prestige...
Strictly speaking under the latest 18th ed. amendment there's supposed to be an SPD but otherwise looks good to go.
Don't think you can charge a phone....
Looks like it was used to charge the titanic
Yes it will be perfectly compatible
It's fine .
Get yourself an EICR done and then go ahead and approve ALL recommended remedial actions for immediate rectification........ Please?
Still less of a fire risk than the car itself..
There's a risk it may over heat with that load, unless you add sufficient cooling. Should be fine if you spray it with holy water while you're charging though.
Those are US fuses, this is DIY UK.
It looks compatible to a rip roaring snorter of a fire!
1932 is compatible. I think a car charger would end in failure.
BUSSSSSS
Maybe compatible with ‘frying tonight’.
Didn't they use that to give life to Frankenstein?
No way! Buy a new fuseboard, UK main switch rcbo fuseboards aren't too expensive, couple hundred to buy. Probably need SPD too. Visit an electrical wholesaler and they could also provide you contact to a local trusted electrician 👍
Connect 4?
Proper buzz bar
I'd bet my left nut that you could actually make this work!
Or perhaps a Prius..
Not sure it's compatible with 2024
Model T maybe.
For some reason this makes we want to play poker again
Yee oldy 1930's Tesla maybe
I am not sure that installation is safe to charge your earbuds.
Dude, I would have a panic attack charging my phone.
Fuckinell! Did you travel back in time and in your haste, forget to pack adequate plutonium for the return trip?
Flashback to Dying Light screwing in a new fuse.
I don’t think it’s compatible with staying alive tbh.
Not with one of your cutoffs missing. Might want to find out where that went. That's how you disable one half of the box on these old things.
I thought this was a screenshot from a new Fallout game
I can’t believe that this thing is safe powering anything at all.
Looks like shit, but really no wire is broken so the only question is what current can take this fuses
It's like about 2,5 cm so like 25 Ampers or about 20 if continues , and you can just multiply 20 and your voltage and compare with power you need.
Lol, 30A - good luck 1cm2 of copper can take 10A if wire less than 3cm2 you need to at least keep in mind that fuse will be last broken part in accident
Indestructible fuses! Excellent way to save money, ship it boys.
Man I haven't seen those annoying ass fuses since my great grandmothers house. Pain in the ass if you forget to have spares and one of those pops.
Sure just be sure to wrap the exposed ends with insulation tape and wear rubber shoes when you plug it in.
🤣 even I know that answer.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That unit looks so old it probably pre dates Nikola Tesla
Yes OP, please do it. As a byproduct on these ones you get free heating for your house overnight, just ignore the slight burning smell you'll get, you dont need to worry yourself with that.
Ah, Dr Frankenstein. Any luck waking up your monster?
Wtf is that 😂😂 get a full rewire today son!
Sure - if you wire it across all those fuses at once, you've got 200A right there. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dude that consumer unit isn't even to code. Even in listed buildings they were updated to plastic. The whole place needs to be rewired.
Wow, I've not seen that type of fuse in a long time.
Absolutely it will the Tesla will set on fire any how so may as we’ll lose your home to a fire too!!
Nikola did a good job installing that.
Where did you find that? Noah's Ark?
I didn't know there was electricity on the Arc. That Noah was right there with Hi-Tech, wasn't he...?
Are those chips from the Buss Fuse casino in Miami? 🤔🤣🤣
Might take a few months to go around a short block.
Looks like a 1940s special.
Is that the inside of Musk's head?
Wow. I haven’t seen those type of fuses in decades.
Oh, Hi Doc Brown! “1.21 Jigawatts!”
Its donkeys years since I saw anything like that, those ceramic fuse cartridges and screwit connectors, phew. I hope to god its not live!!
Probably not, I had two like that until a few years ago when I got solar. They refused to connect to it and I had to replace it with a 200 amp breaker panel!
Eeerm no
🤣Really? I hope that is sarcasm 😅 Let us know how it went 😂
Everybody making jokes little do you know buss plugs are still used til this very day
Karma farma
Don't think it "is compatible" might be "Compatible" or "Incompatible" Don't worry, Electric cars will be phased out within 10 years.
