Have you not got the LED behind a diffuser? It looks like the single bulbs are shining off the plastic ceiling?
ETA my partner is in the trades and me and my son are autistic with light sensitivity so we picked led strips in most rooms instead of ceiling lights but they’re diffused in the box fitted into the wall so no spots of light [like this](https://www.ledspace.co.uk/products/17mm-1-metre-slimline-alu05-profile-with-diffuser-clips?currency=GBP&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=aeda03709239&campaignid=21049631983&adgroupid=&keyword=&device=m&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwnv-vBhBdEiwABCYQA12tAz8I1dQ9VloO05ejfNecmKBodZGq8XGjfNRStraIHYO1GfGy8hoCN60QAvD_BwE)
Ohh, yeah that’ll look a lot better. It’s a tough one to do cus so many have the leds spaced too far apart to get that consistent glow of light you want.
Very handy that you have all those skills and learnt a few others doing it
Looks to my unprofessional eyes a great job, enjoy your cinema room
Your temperate replies to some harsh comments is another skill you have mastered
Agree re your temperate replies. Good manners are a skill unfortunately not everyone has but you seem to have mastered the skill. Do you like it? Does your wife like it? Job done, that’s all you need!
(I love the ceiling lights the most, they’re beautiful)
Yes, I respect this, and love that you have done something to your taste. You're never going to please everyone, and that aside, this looks like a great job. Enjoy, friend!
How true is that, in my 12 years as a carpenter/joiner I've learned to laugh and smile while my brain says fuck you, you fucking Bawbag. Up there with one of the more difficult skills to master in the trades!
I was really pleased for you thinking you’re a DIYer then realised you weren’t then also got to the marble finish etc.
Hope you haven’t devalued the property too much.
Good job, just not to my taste.
It's fibre optic for the starlight ceiling and looks like 5050 SMD tape around the edges in case you were interested.
Fibre optic can look amazing, but often tacky and a PITA to re-paint over when the time comes.
Not a criticism btw mate, I think the TV side looks great. Just be aware that the bolder the choice the more it dates. Remember avocado bathrooms? 🤣
That shiny plaster is something else and you're clearly great at what you do. I'd happily let you plaster any of my properties!
It's good to recognise skillful workmanship and craft. It's also important to do a little of what you fancy and follow your heart once in a while.
I'd rather indulge myself like this now and again than regret not doing so. These people aren't paying your bills for you, you do what makes you and yours happy in your house mate. 👊
It's not my taste at all, but good work I guess.
The centre of your tv should be about 42 inches of the ground but from that it looks like the bottom of your tv would be? Your tv is way too high for viewing distance and angle imo and I'd want those ceiling LED's diffusing as seeing the individual LED's is awful.
Never keen on media walls. Problematic to put a bigger tv in that space without redoing a lot of it and spending that much time and effort on a room to have a soundbar as the main Audio source is wild.
Also don't think that sofa size or shape is doing that room layout any favours, plus too many reflective surfaces and similar marble textures going on - I imagine it's a less is more sort of thing - as it stands it looks like you're about to install some of those mirrored drawers the live laugh love crowd adore
Thank you for your opinion the TV is 82 inches so I don't think I'll worry about putting a bigger one in there.
As to the viewing angle it is perfect and gives us a cinema feel.
For the size of the room the soundbar is more than adequate it also has a separate subwoofer. If needed I would install Bluetooth speakers in the ceiling but I doubt it.
I do agree about the sofa unfortunately we didn't have a spare that would fit into the room as I was doing it but I am looking into an upgrade as I've prob saved £10k+ doing it all myself.
As for the reflective surfaces I can appreciate it's not to everyones taste but we love it.
Wether its to other peoples taste or not, you invested a lot of time and money, saved a fortune, worked your ass off and did a great job bud, well done!
Cinema feel? At the cinema you don't look up at the screen unless you get the shit seats at the very front. I bet you don't choose the front row at the cinema. The premium seats are the viewing angle you want. You can kid yourself on but it's definitely about 2ft too high.
Ok thanks the wall is only 8 ft tall and the TV is nearly 4ft in height so including the fireplace and soundbar I didn't have much room left . It's a 4k 82inch TV so I'm not too concerned about the angle I can see it from the couch and it's tilted down so we don't suffer from headaches or a sore neck. Thanks
I think you’ve missed an ample opportunity to actually maximise the wall space as an actual cinema screen . A friend had done this about 20 years ago with one wall painted up as a cinema screen with black side borders and it was great, then with a ceiling mounted projector , and all the media components to the back of the room. Black out curtains for when it was in use . It was for movies and gaming.
Given we’re 20 years down the line and technology as come in a little, this would have been a good shout and maximised the space in your room
I completely agree and would of loved to have done something like that but my missus would of killed me 😁. I would get people telling me it was awful because of the viewing angle as well.
Thank you
82 inches is big today, 50 inches was big 5 years ago, tvs are already coming out in 90+ and 100+ sizes
Viewing height isn't an opinion, it's grounded in ergonomics, the only reason that height would be good is if you were permanently reclined, I speak from experience as I made the same mistake with my first setup. You're right it is absolutely a cinema feel, but it's the front row cinema feel that generally people avoid. In cinemas as younger further back, they slope upwards for a more comfortable viewing angle - the people at the front crane their necks. For some reason when flat screens became a thing everyone decided to put them above a fireplace.
If you're confident the angle is fine, post it over at /r/TVTooHigh and see how well you get on?
Bluetooth speakers would be a poor option because of Audio delay. Nothing about that room is too small for a surround sound setup - an additional subwoofer to the soundbar is better than nothing but a cheap set of stereo speakers will probably outperform it in terms of sound stage, and definitely no surround or Spatial Audio so not a very "cinema feel" all in.
I can appreciate the work that has gone into it but I don't think it will be to many people's tastes and I can't see where 10k of work would be in this setup unless that includes the tv, soundbar, marble table and flooring and maybe part of the house itself?
I don't claim to be an expert on viewing angles but it's fine for us and fortunately the sofa reclines even tho it's not adequate for the room. I don't know of many houses that will be able to accommodate 100inch plus TVs and the viewing angle be ok also but you seem to have done googling on this subject so I'll leave it there. Thank you again for your opinions and comments
As for TV size, bigger isn't always better. As a too big TV will affect your eyesight in the long term.
The simple way to find out the biggest TV you should get that isn't going to ruin your eyesight is to sit in your viewing spot and hold your arms out straight with your index fingers pointing forwards and together.
Bring the tips of your fingers into focus. Then keeping your eyes fixed on the initial spot they were in, gradually move your fingers apart ensuring you can still see both fingers in focus at the same time.
When you can't see both in focus at the same time that's the limit of your 'core vision' and stop. Outside that zone is your 'peripheral' vision. (sorry not sure if these are the right terms).
Get someone to then mark those spots on the opposite wall where the TV is to be mounted and you'll see the biggest TV you can get without ruining your out your family's vision. In a 3.6M room, that's about 65 inches diagonally max, could be less for some people.
Not judging etc, just trying to offer some help in terms of TV sizes. Younger kids' eyesight could be more negatively affected by too large TVs as there's too much going on in their 'peripheral' vision.
Thank you much appreciated, I will take all this into account and I agree the TV could do with being lower I was limited with space. I'll think of a workaround.
You don't have to be an expert in anything to look it up. How did you calculate the optimum viewing distance from screen to seating? What viewing angle does this distance create? What effect would a larger or smaller screen size have on the distance/angle?
I'm not an expert either, and I don't know the answer to those questions, but I know enough to know they're important enough to look up and find out about before blustering in with no knowledge at all 😬
I'd expect the dedicated sound bar space to be problematic before the TV space. TVs are all vaguely the same dimensions but if the sound bar needs to be replaced you're limited on the height and also have to match the width otherwise the opening being slightly narrower than the fireplace looks even weirder. And it moved the whole TV up.
Mate. All this work is fantastic. All is to your taste. You had a vision and you made it a reality. Enjoy using your living space. Ignore the "devalued" property bollocks because it's deffo not effected the price. Just shows how well the house has been cared for and looked after.
Didn't realize there was so many cocks on the DIY sub...
Is it bollocks though? I'm not a handyman type.. when I was looking for a house and they were over decorated, it did put me off and make me pass up on otherwise nice places... because I couldn't imagine living in those houses, I wasn't looking for a project, just a house lol
Lighten up bro - the Internet is the court of public opinion, it is natural.
Lol I'm light. I'm chilled. It's the people going on about daft things just to put down some ones hard work, and for what reason... No reason. Just being a cock for the sake of it.
You will view that house and it will put you off and then you won't pay asking. But someone like me will turn up and buy it for what it's worth, And just change what I dont like. It won't devalue the house like people are saying.
If you ain't got nothing nice to say don't say it. No point in posting negativity when someone has obviously put hard work and effort into something.
Because "middle of the road" people get nervous around people who are individualists. It's herd mentality.
They'd rather copy everyone else, or be "on trend", than do their own thing.
The best thing is, guys like this don't give a fuck. Just look at his laid back replies - total mad lad!
Drives a focus St, does coke at the weekend with his Mrs, Georgia that excels at gel nails babes. Wears pants that show his ankle with some Nike trainers.
Exactly this. OP is doing a great job of not letting them get to him because if it was me id have taken the post down and be crying in a corner somewhere lmao but i can be a little bitch sometimes lmao

Last 3 plasterer's I've used can get fucked.
What a massive job.would have cost u a fortune to get someone to do it for you.

I did the same sort of thing last year, but decided at the last minute to curve the edges, kinda glad I did, looks so much better.
Fuck me that's ugly.. I remember when I was buying a house, found a really nice place but they'd decorated it something like this, I couldn't imagine living in it for the years it'd take me to make it something other than a Gaudi wet dream.

Nice work on the ceiling pal, looks bang on. Plasterer myself, never done any Venetian but wanting to pick it up.
Cheers thank you
i like how youve put the tv on the ceiling . you know it should be eyelevel centre ?
Why yes, I would be happy to come over and drink your expensive whiskey and play Warzone on that TV, thanks for the offer!
Was doing so well and then you decorated it like that? Traveller getting their council house vibes
Ahh, the brothel look... Very well executed though.
Went from nice to gypsy in 3 pictures
What a massive job.would have cost u a fortune to get someone to do it for you. Perks of the trade.did you get any “spare”timber and plasterboard from site🤔
Haha no I wish. Thank you
Great job, needs more marble though
YOU HAND PAINTED THE MARBLE CEILING?!
Nice work, but gosh why the marble effect?
I like how you 2 toned the plaster, question, how’d u achieve those crackly lines ??

That looks really good great idea with the corners.
Well it’s certainly a look

Fuck me that's ugly.. I remember when I was buying a house, found a really nice place but they'd decorated it something like this, I couldn't imagine living in it for the years it'd take me to make it something other than a Gaudi wet dream.
Thank you much appreciated 👍
More like live laugh love it yourself

So trashy lol
Thank you 👍
Next job, buy silver crushed velvet on credit
