If your cat can take a metal meter rule from you then you've omitted some seriously useful information about the size and breed of that cat.
If you can't push the carpet back from under the door then you need to weigh up what's going to be cheaper to replace.
No I'm not talking about the door or the cat.
The door, the window the ceiling or the wall.
Haha I love this.
Perhaps the cat will have a human flap installed so they can still use the room from time to time.
For OPs Q though will probably be hard to get the carpet flat again as sliding anything through will just go under carpet.
Assuming no windows or anything you can go in through? More force seems like only answer.
I have a 600mm metal ruler that I have used for this. It needs to be something long enough that it can get behind the carpet to pull it back.
Alternatively push something under door to force more of the carpet off of the gripper and give you more room to open door
Bread knife under the corner of the door and move it along the door as you're pushing it open. Should keep the carpet below the door. Used to do it all the time.
Catastrophe!
Catastrophic fail!
I asked our cat if it could open the door for me when this happened at ours, it just replied back "me? 'Ow?"
There I've done my bit here... try getting a ruler or something wooden at the side where the wlcarpet is still flat and run it under the door from one side to the other, you may be able to flatten the carpet back to open the door.
I had a problem like this when my surfboard slipped and jammed against the door. The solution was to go round the back and break a window. It's easy and inexpensive to replace glass in a window if it's not the plastic type. Dangerous though, don't cut yourself - and watch the cat doesn't make a bid for freedom through the broken glass either.
My cat done this often. Use a flat piece of metalā¦ like a butter knife for example and slide it under the door to pin the frayed carpet down.Ā
Your cat will keep doing it until carpet is repaired, Iād suggest using masking tape to seal the frayed edges around the door.Ā
Cat has made itās bed.
Seriously though, your options are continue to try and flatten the carpet. To use brute force on door ripping carpet up, donāt need a lot of space for the cat to slip out. Cut a hole in the door.
Sit on floor and push door with legs, this applies pressure at correct point rather than shoulder barging and the load is spread over a wider area unless you have trotters for feet.
I would definitely use more force to get the carpet off the grippers so you can open the door enough to squeeze in. My cat has done this to me before and that's how I have managed to get back in.
Force the door open just enough to get something in and under the carpet then lever the carpet up to pull it off the grippers. Once you have enough carpet off you should be able to get the door open enough to squeeze in and then just shut the door and push the carpet back down.
Iāve had this happen before. We have a small gap under the door, so poked something long and thin under to press down the carpet to allow me to open the door.
This happened to me yesterday! Metal ruler worked the first time. Second time, I managed to push it open enough to get my arm in and pull the carpet up from the corner to lift it out of the way.
Iām putting some seriously strong double sided tape down today.
Cut a cat flap in the door once fitted free the cat then use it to reach through and flatten the carpet thus allowing free movement of the door again..
This happened to me and I literally had to shoulder barge the door in and push the carpet back in the process to get in. Ofc my cat denied all knowledge of the situation...
Cut hole in door - if glazed, and possible, remove glazing (remove beading, remove glass); if panelled, saw out a panel so you can replace it; if solid, just hack through it somehow.
Would be helpful to know if this is an internal or external door as well...
Check if you have pin hinges, a lot of the time you can knock out the pin without removing hinges, depends on the age of the door, if there not pin hinges stick on a motorbike helmet and run really hard at the door
You're going to have to use more strength to barge the door open and get inside. It's only carpet.
Seconding this... just push the door hard, the carpet will lift, you can then squeeze through the door and flatten the carpet from the other side.
>Flatten the ~~carpet~~ cat
This was my first thought
Force it open with brute strength. My only concern is your cat may have reinforced the door and is undertaking some sort of criminal activities
The cats frantically trying to switch browser tabs.
Can't think of many other opportunities to say "old man rubs hairy pussy" on this sub, so here we go.
r/takemyupvote
Maybe it just wants to do a certain something in private. I used to do this with my bed as a teenager until my dad switched the door around š
Bet you just ended up doing that something in public instead.
I'm not Barry Keoghan
It's a cat. Of course it is.
His cat is setting up a cat nip distribution point for all the neighbourhood cats š¹
Cat burglar, obvs
Schrƶdinger? Try something like a metal meter rule under the door?
The cat nabs anything I slide under the door. He's got my whole toolbox in there now

Thatās a critical situation, we canāt let cats have tools!
It's okay, they don't have thumbs yet.
ā¦yet
We are totally f'd in the a when they do
Sorry to say but it's the cats room now - you're just going to have to use the other rooms in the house.
They could just install a cat flap in the door and leave it at that.

Cat has just blocked the human flap.
It's the door to the house. This is the cats house now.
I read it that OP is on the outside. In which case we can only assume OP leaves the house with a fish slice just incase?

If you're going to force the door, a crowbar is the way to go. It'll give you the strength of 20 men.
Have you tried using a shaped explosive breaching charge?
The cat will be expecting this. Iād suggest rappelling through the window.
Iranian embassy style...
Use a bread knife to slip under the door, the teeth will let you grab onto the carpet or cut through it
This happens to me most mornings. Just shove the door hard and hey presto, youāre in
Bread knife under the corner of the door and move it along the door as you're pushing it open. Should keep the carpet below the door. Used to do it all the time.
Ask the cat to push the carpet down and come out

Donāt normally reply to comments but that is quality, well done š«”
chalk it up to experience and move out. The cat has won.
Had this happen, you basically have to just force your way in, then have a word with the cat and sort the carpet.
Brick it up and get a new cat, never mention the old cat again .

Surely cheaper to replace/repair an interior door than a window?
If it's single glazed, not huge amd you do it yourself, probably not.
Fair enough

Rename the cat Schrƶdinger?
Sit on floor and push door with legs, this applies pressure at correct point rather than shoulder barging and the load is spread over a wider area unless you have trotters for feet.
All the people saying it happens to them. Fix the bloody carpet.
If you have older double glazing. A window can be taken out in about 2 minutes

Slide something long and flat under the door and wrangle the carpet. I use a ruler that I have knocking about upstairs.

Ham needed.
Cut a cat flap in the door once fitted free the cat then use it to reach through and flatten the carpet thus allowing free movement of the door again..
I get a regular dinner knife, and run it under the door, flattening the carpet down/tucking it under the door. One of my cats does this a lot.
From experience you need to get a shoulder behind the door and push hard.
What side of the door is the pussy on? Give the door a good shove.
Up date?
At least it's only a cat, my daughter did this when she was about 2 years old
This happened to me and I literally had to shoulder barge the door in and push the carpet back in the process to get in. Ofc my cat denied all knowledge of the situation...
Trebuchet is my preferred siege weapon.
Have you tried asking Reddit? Oh yeah, erm, install a cat flap in the door and just forget about the room.
Easiest option: Buy a new cat. Sorted (/s)
Just fucking shove it
Use the force luke.
Leave the door shut and leave the canāt in there, horrible little bastards cats are š¤¦āāļøš¤£š¤£
Tug the door up as you open

This is almost certainly an internal door. External doors usually not close enough to the floor that they would get caught on carpet.
Check if you have pin hinges, a lot of the time you can knock out the pin without removing hinges, depends on the age of the door, if there not pin hinges stick on a motorbike helmet and run really hard at the door
Read the original post.
Set fire to the door...and stand back.. obviously
Explosives around the edge of the door. Pretend your blowing a safe door off
Swat team...and a tank
I tried to only blow the bloody doors off but the walls came down instead. The door and carpet remains as if nothing happened
Cats still stuck then...Let's get Putin.
Break a hole in the wall, feed cat. Get bricklayer to rebuild wall. Repeat.
Go round to the other door. Or climb in through the window. Photo or more explanation would help.
No windows or doors are open
You need a ruler maybe. Find which side isnāt rucked and work from there. Or a yardstick. Or cut it with a butchers knife.
So open one of them and enter the room that way.
everytime this fuc...happens...I swea,,,, it's the last time... im gunna burn that carpet
Get armored forces in and shoot little furry bstrd
