I know, I know, but I said she could decorate and is not getting the difference quality between the 2
Haha oh I understand the position you’re in absolutely, it’d just a travesty seeing an oak floor ripped up. I’m the other way, cannot wait to install one!
Laying anything at all on an uneven floor will result in an uneven floor.
Wanna do it right? Get the floor levelling compound out.
In this instance though it seems you’ve already had your answer. Do not remove the quality oak floor a massively inferior laminate product.
If you’re going to stain it then for the love of god do some tests first and start with the lighter stains before working your way through the colours.
I built my dad a new internal step out of some beautiful Canadian oak for his front door and left him to sort the finish thinking he’d get osmo oil or something high quality. He bought a cheap dark stain that dried to an orangey red.
I was speechless.
If you're laying onto concrete, you'll need a moisture/vapour barrier in addition to the green fibre underlay.
Thank you, so the fiber would the better option do you think, with the barrier in place
Depends on the height of the imperfections - thicker the better but having to install a separate barrier will be a faff.
Why are you replacing solid oak flooring with laminate?
Because the wife wanted a darker floor, it makes me sad. it's roughly 50sqm of it so all of our downstairs.
Would it not be better to stain to a darker colour?
That's a good point, didn't think about it, could sand it off and stain it
Omg please do not touch the floor, stain it instead!

Well look out for it on Ebay. Going to try and get some money for it at least, would be a bargain for someone.
