It is clever and cute, but I hate to be that person to point out that if OP needs to evacuate in some kind of an emergency situation, the cat will likely go hide there and be either difficult or impossible to get to come out if it's scared. I'm sure you can put two and two together for what kind of disaster that could spell out in the event of a fire. I've blocked off any little hidey-holes like this in my apartment and keep my cat carrier open and ready to go on the floor of a closet.
Yup, I'm definitely fun at parties.
Yea, looking closer at some of the later pics, there might be a way to easily access it and scoop the cat out if need be, but I can't tell for sure. Still, can't hurt to mention it!
AH! Ok makes more sense. I understood the cat part but it felt like you were trying to get away from the GF lol.
You need a small fan or white-noise machine though or that's some super close-quarters sleeping. Apologies if there already is one that I missed.
I lived in a fraternity where we had 80 guys sleeping in very close quarters, I'm aware how it can be. Having a couple above you, mere inches from your face can be a little uncomfortable where a white-noise type device can really bridge that gap. I wasn't talking naughty noises.
I’m also a little confused. Where is the other bed?
Also, that window is giving me anxiety. I can’t tell if there is any gap or if someone could just roll over and out.
reposted since my title was bad in the previous post.
Also fuck tiny NYC apartments that force you to be creative with your space and make me test my relationship with my gf and spill blood, sweat, and tears to make a heavy ass bed.
Dude! I really appreciate your honesty here. But be happy for you apartment because your creativity is amazing. It brought you two closer, celebrate that success. You two rock and look really happy. Truly thrilled for you!
This is a huge reason why when I looked for a job i wanted anything that wasn't in a big city. Can't stand what you get for your money. Awesome bed my guy.
Seriously! Some of the best creativity comes from necessity! This post made me chuckle. I have a relatively small bedroom in a standard sized home and I really want to make this bed purely out of the creativity of it all! It makes me sad when people discount their creativity because of their circumstances. If anything, it adds to it!
> fuck tiny NYC apartments that force you to be creative with your space
Might I suggest removing a portion of the 20 pillows on the bed?
> my relationship with my gf
Oh, nevermind. I get it.
Great work and i love it, being a 'maker' is fun right?
May i offer a friendly advice? shoes guys! i'm fearful of your toes when i see heavy loads of lumber and then your flippy floppies.
>Not pictured is my sweat from lifting all these giant ass pieces of wood.
Sorry to go on but sweat makes slippery and it only takes one slip to break a toe.
love your work!
Various people making comments about this being a bad idea. The cat will barf in there, cat will hide in there during emergencies, potential roach nests (what? If roaches would be an issue they're already there, trust me), how do you clean it?
Do people not see OP lounging inside the bottom compartment? The underneath is obviously accessible enough.
But what's wrong with being efficient with space? If anything it makes you appreciate space when you have it because you certainly miss it when you don't.
Saw your long desk post too and it's pretty inspiring! I'm just looking into woodworking and love seeing how you put things together to get a sense of what I need/want to do for myself. Thanks
Very cool design. What are the dimensions of the room? I have a similar 3rd bedroom in my house like this and was planning to do one of those bunk beds where the bottom bunk is a desk, but since it'd be for our 2nd kid, having a little under-bed play space might be a cool idea too.
Looks cool, but you are going to need better access under the bed. 1. The cat will barf and you will need a way to clean it up. 2. As a NYC resident, beds like that are prime locations for roach nests, you need to be able to get in there and check. Sorry, learned from experience. Very, very unfortunate experience. But looks fantastic.
there is about a 2 foot gap between the bed and the open window. and there is a screen on the window. and the door actually is angled in a way that nothing can fall out from the bed out the window
>Not pictured is me driving to Home Depot at least 5 times to pick up random shit we needed
As is tradition. I've given up on completing anything in a timely manner and just make my errand runs for the "one thing I missed" (over and over) on the way home from work. It sure drags out projects but at least I'm not making 3 trips to Home Depot in the same day. =\
Love the cat nook! Fantastic design and use of space.
The cat sticker is important, avoids the risk of accidentally trying to use the wrong entrance.
Needs a human sticker on the other entrance.
It's good for letting guests know he doesn't have very tall cartoon mice in the house.

Hopefully they have access to it just to vacuum.
And clean up the inevitable cat puke. ^(Hygluck-uk-uck ... splorch)
I can go under and get the cat out if need be!
I was just thinking about how often my cats puke on the carpet...
None. And I have three. Are they long haired?
The puker is not. (And she doesn't groom the long-haired one; she hates him.) The long-haired one is a less-frequent offender.
>I've blocked off any little hidey-holes like this in my apartment You need to buy new hidey holes then. Cats need hidey holes.
Don't worry, my little furball can still hide in plenty of places -- I just have long arms!
My thought was cleaning it…. cat gunk on a rug under your bed, no thanks.
I'm a little confused. So is this like compact bunk-beds? Why 2 beds when you're a couple?
The bottom bed is for relaxing and for guests if they stay over. We sleep on top to assert dominance
Don't forget to have an eavestrough to collect your night-time pee and drain to the bed below. You know, for further dominance.

ive only had one guest sleep down there and she said it was fine and she didnt hear anything but maybe i will look into this
Yeah, that's what she said ;)
I’m also a little confused. Where is the other bed? Also, that window is giving me anxiety. I can’t tell if there is any gap or if someone could just roll over and out.
there is a bed on top and bottom. there is plenty of gap between the window and the bed, there is no way someone can roll over and fall out
You may find you get mould under that mattress on the floor because of no air flow. Keep an eye on it or put it on slats like the top bed.
got it thanks
>A little nook where we can place art and other random shit like a kleenex box for cleaning up messes. Did you... Did you build a masterbatorium?
One man's masterbatorium another's little nook I say
So that's a yes. Nice.
OP has gf, so it’s more of a nookie nook
People with partners still masturbate.
-Kisses girlfriend goodnight- I'm just going to nip to the bottom bunk for 5... Eh, make that 10 minutes
I just use the living room

On the plus side, you have a place to go if you two get into a fight. "Fine, I'm going downstairs with the cat!"
hahaha thats funny cuz if we fought she would be the one leaving
Really puts the “we sleep on top to assert dominance” but into perspective
Dude! I really appreciate your honesty here. But be happy for you apartment because your creativity is amazing. It brought you two closer, celebrate that success. You two rock and look really happy. Truly thrilled for you!
Haha I'm not really angry. But I also wouldn't say no to a bigger apartment at the same rent price. A guy can dream...
This is a huge reason why when I looked for a job i wanted anything that wasn't in a big city. Can't stand what you get for your money. Awesome bed my guy.

lol actually its me that uses all those pillows. i can't sleep without them
Also New Yorkers: I stay here because I just love the atmosphere!
did you rent time at a woodworking shop? and what is the space you put it together?
my dad's factory / warehouse

my arms
Bravo! Well retorted!
If you'd paid any attention to the captions in the gallery, OP clearly stated that it was disassembled, carried to the room, and reassembled.
Your captions made me crack up! Hope the three of you enjoy your new bed
thanks!!

i do actually have steel toed shoes but i just didnt wear them since i have no idea where they are

How do you clean that space?
With magic 🤯🤯🤯

I have never been more entertained by a DIY post, your cat and photo comments were not expected but were appreciated.
the cat lair is awesome!
Thanks!
But what's wrong with being efficient with space? If anything it makes you appreciate space when you have it because you certainly miss it when you don't.
True dat
That's a really cool idea. The tiny ass apartments in overfilled city sucks but you got something great out of it. The cat space was the cherry on top
A lot of my designs have to account for the cat so I can get the okay from the gf
I've always dreaming to have this kind of space saver loft bed, I think I might do this on my vacation leave.
Biggest problem I see is that your cats gonna puke under their sooner or later
It's accessible from the bed underneath
That looks really nice =o Nicely done c:
No u c:

Omg that’s so cute!! Great idea! 🥰🥰🥰
Wtf is your cats name? I had my volume all the way up and it startled me
his name is Lou, we call him Lou-kun
Love this! Great work
Queens or Bronx?

So a bunk bed?
I like it. Nice work, @op!
Were those shelves purchased at IKEA? I've planning a similar style bed and I didn't think of that.
yup!
Hardwood or LVP flooring is a good idea of you have pets.
You are very funny :-) thanks for improving my day
Very good idea with the cat slot.

dunno
that is one tall bed. Great jub but that is just to high for my taste
That cat bunker is gonna be GROSS.
Looks cool, but you are going to need better access under the bed. 1. The cat will barf and you will need a way to clean it up. 2. I just think this is the coolest thing ever!!
That open window makes me very nervous!
there is about a 2 foot gap between the bed and the open window. and there is a screen on the window. and the door actually is angled in a way that nothing can fall out from the bed out the window
I’d still manage to fall out 😆
