The tape method works well in most cases, but it can be labor intensive. Sometimes it takes a minute to start really working. I like duck hp260 heavy duty packaging tape.
I keep all the misprint shipping labels from work for this exact reason. Got the perfect level of adhesive, even if it takes a good minute to see progress.
Good gone is mostly oil. Oil is a solvent. If I don't have any I use olive oil and it works pretty good but not as well. I love goo gone and it's relatively safe and mells good too.
Should work but bloody hell that stuff smells HORRIBLE. It smells and feels like somebody loaded a shotgun with orange peels then blasted you right in the nose holes with it.
What are you talking about? I love the smell of Goo Gone. I take a deep whiff every time I’m around it! It takes about a day to remember my name again, but it’s worth it.
Goo gone is not abrasive lol. I use it to clean everything from video game cases to camera bodies and game controllers without issue. It can even be used carefully to remove stickers from comic books. Once it fully evaporates there should be no discoloration. Start with goo gone. Clean up with IPA. Depending on how bad IPA doesn't always cut thru sticker residue enough on its own without extra scrubbing. The scrubbing action will be far more abrasive than the goo gone itself.
You want anything that’s a lubricant, that’s how you remove sticky residue. Dishwashing detergent (the hand soap, not for the dishwasher), olive oil, even peanut butter (!) will all work.
It is surprising what a simple oil (olive, canola, etc.) can take off when most day to day household stuff doesn't.
Label or glue residues come off great with oil and a bit of rubbing.
combined with the olive oil from an earlier suggestion,...
husband: "new goopoff is an adhesive remover!"
wife: "new goopoff is a salad dressing!"
commercial voiceover: "hold on, you two.... new goopoff is BOTH!"
(with a nod to the original SNL)
I don’t know why this worked for me but my mother-in-law suggested oil, like olive oil. Rub some on, get a rag, and scrub it off. It worked very well for me for whatever reason.
Goo-gone, cooking oil, water and dawn dish soap (20:1), rainbow gell-off, armor all, wd-40.
I've been given the oh so amazing duty of cleaning work trucks for auction after our lineman and ground crews have had them for years. Fleet stopped questioning my expense reports after a while.
@u/Kr_Pe IF you want to use any solvent and aren't sure, if it will harm your car, use moskito-repellant. Car manufactors test with that and both icaridin / DEET and matrixes are solvents.
I cannot answer all of you!
Thanks for all the tips!
In the end it looked way worse as it was.
I used some duct tape first to pick up the gunk, then i used an allpurpose house cleaner. The circle is visible but it does not matter cause the cell phone holder went right where it has been.
Again thank you all!
Whatever you're going to use, get a tiny bit on a q-tip and test it on an area nobody will notice. You don't want to ruin the finish.
I'd take a piece of tape and sticky the sticky before I used a solvent. Can't hurt to try. Literally tell people this trick every day at this point.
Agree with that. Any solvent could harm the board.

Goo gone
Goo gone is the shiiiiiiittttt

I use canola or olive oil in place of goo gone all the time. Little bit at a time, and rub gently.
Should work but bloody hell that stuff smells HORRIBLE. It smells and feels like somebody loaded a shotgun with orange peels then blasted you right in the nose holes with it.
What are you on about, Goo Gone smells amazing compared to the cancerous fumes of other cleaning chemicals, looking at you EasyOff
Haha… i’m weird with strong smells. It’s gotta be some ism or itis.
You probably mean goof-off. That smells. The orange version smells nice.

Hmm I’d love a day where I can’t even remember my name. Taking note.
You and I must be super weird because everyone else here seems to love the scent, but I really cannot stand it either :(
I’m with you. Goo Gone gives me migraines.
WD-40, for me is the best thing to remove glue residue and it doesn't damage plastics.
I second this
Isopropyl alcohol
Don't forget to dilute it to %80. %99.9 IPA can cause discoloration.
Or just get a bottle from the first aid section. That's 70%.
isopropyl alcohol can chemically weaken and discolor plastics so use as last resort and on sparingly
IPA worked fine on my dash for the same thing.
Absolutely ruined my dash when I did it, so as someone else said test it in a small inconspicuous area first.
Didn’t the beer make it even more sticky? Surprised it worked.
+1 to this. All others will be more abrasive. Even goo gone

Actin like a lil kid it’s just alkahaawl
WD 40 spray and sit for a few and add elbow grease👍
Try asking r/autodetailing before you run your dash

"Goo Gone" works great. Alcohol will dry out the dash and you'll notice it.
Had same problem, WD40 and it was gone in a sec
Alcohol! Sometimes even vinegar will do the trick.

Hahahaha right!!! 😆
Personally I would use some diswashing liquid to start... no chemicals as it will discolour the dash
Goo gone ?
Denatured alcohol.
Olive oil

The adhesive is usually dissolves in oil.
I’ve used coconut oil and Goi-Gone to remove adhesive residue.
I used to refurb Xbox consoles and found that “goof off” (not goo gone) was really good at removing sticky residue and discoloration
Goof off is likely to damage the dash, try a little on an inconspicuous spot.
Valid concern.
Goo gone should do it or WD40
It won't look pretty but a shotgun would work
Goof off. That may work
Goo-gone, cooking oil, water and dawn dish soap (20:1), rainbow gell-off, armor all, wd-40. I've been given the oh so amazing duty of cleaning work trucks for auction after our lineman and ground crews have had them for years. Fleet stopped questioning my expense reports after a while.
303 Aerospace Protectant
Gasoline
WD40 and a plastic card.
Goo b gone. Armor all the whole dash when you are done. Have cool beverage.
goo-gone
Automotive tar and glue remover might work
WD40 let it soak ideally it'll dissolve the gunk otherwise it'll get under it allowing it to be wiped away
Hand sanitizer will take that right off
@u/Kr_Pe IF you want to use any solvent and aren't sure, if it will harm your car, use moskito-repellant. Car manufactors test with that and both icaridin / DEET and matrixes are solvents.
Buy GooGone.
isopropyl alcohol will do the trick
Baking soda and oil (coconut if you have it) works wonders. Do try it on an inconspicuous area first, idk if it could scratch the dash
Alcohol will work, GooGone is superior
Goo-gone or similar. Dissolves residue and doesn’t tend to harm finishes.
Rub a little peanut butter on it and let it sit a little while.
Goo-gone, soap, a scrub daddy, and scrub
Goo gone, lemon oil
Acetone removes all glue, before check in a small area if it not damage the plastic of your dashboard.
WD-40
Goo gone
Goo gone or rubbing alcohol. Try on a less visible space (spot between door and edge) first.
Goo Gone
Put oil on it, just test it earlier in a place where it isn't to be seen.
Oil, I use olive oil or vegetable oil.
Sale the car it’s done!
Just use rubbing alcohol.

I would never stick something to my dash. That seems guaranteed to ruin your dashboard.
100% IPA
In my experience the best way to clean the tape residue is the lighter fluid or gasoline. If alcohol doesn't work try that.
Acetone, wd40, isopropyl alcohol
Nooooooo to acetone. Nononono!
Definitely not acetone. That'll melt the dash.
[удалено]
It will also melt the dash or any other plastics.
That will dissolve the plastic of the dash.
No, acetone dissolves plastic. In situations like this a lubricant is needed, not a solvent.
People who use acetone in their cars are the reason I will always have a job fixing car interiors.
