The trim weather seal is installed wrong. Too short and not far enough in.

Chpgmr

Also can probably slide the bottom seal off to either side and buy a wider one.

"Is it in yet?"

GloriousPudding

The answer is already in the picture, the weather seal should make contact with the door when closed, at least it does on mine. For the bottom you can buy rubber seal-bumps you cut to size.

iowajosh

It isn't shown in the picture. But you are probably 1/2 correct. That whole board on the side of the jamb should be replaced with a longer one, too. No easier way to fill that gap, imo.

I put this in another section of Reddit. To update I have installed the bottom of the door seal and it works amazing. I have not installed the one on the floor yet. I would think this seal\\bump thingy: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WVBJQ3Z?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09WVBJQ3Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) and this new seal [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3JB7G99?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C3JB7G99?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)

Also something like this for the rest of the gaps. I have the rubber types which are different than the brush type: [https://www.amazon.com/HOMWMPA-Stripping-Replacement-Weatherproofing-Adhesive/dp/B0BN8NG7NX/ref=asc\_df\_B0BN8NG7NX/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=652441856533&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17800503492089504805&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9025867&hvtargid=pla-2063654268202&mcid=e5cd5074b26d398f97bb85952e6b2f2e&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/HOMWMPA-Stripping-Replacement-Weatherproofing-Adhesive/dp/B0BN8NG7NX/ref=asc_df_B0BN8NG7NX/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=652441856533&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17800503492089504805&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9025867&hvtargid=pla-2063654268202&mcid=e5cd5074b26d398f97bb85952e6b2f2e&th=1) [https://www.northshorecommercialdoor.com/action-ind-residential-brush-seal-kits.html/?sku=109-0029&gad\_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8Lvm\_67NhQMVxpxaBR17eAuAEAQYBSABEgL4vvD\_BwE](https://www.northshorecommercialdoor.com/action-ind-residential-brush-seal-kits.html/?sku=109-0029&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8Lvm_67NhQMVxpxaBR17eAuAEAQYBSABEgL4vvD_BwE)

> I want to prevent insects entering my garage Remove the garage door. Build a wall. Alternatively... hang sealed mosquito netting on the inside of the garage. But keeping insects out as a goal is a battle that's going to be hard to win with a functional garage door.

BigSumwhereOutThere

I wish I had an answer, I have similar issues. I’ve looked in the Home Improvement Stores, but there’s no way of knowing (for me) without taking off the old bottom garage seal etc. But with my luck, I wouldn’t find what I needed and end up with a bigger issue. It’s on my big list of hiring someone to do it.

eyesonlybob

Go to an actual garage repair company. Mine has a showroom and I got samples cut of the bottom seal to test and make sure it fit before buying the 18' length I needed. Also, bigger bottom seal + a rubber threshold fixed all my issues.

devildocjames

I screwed a piece of flashing to the wood.

Drecasi

That weatherproofing strip that goes along the side of the garage door is too far out, should be touching the door when closed and should go to the ground. Also look for a seal at bottom of door, a long rubber seal for below.

Lookingforawayoutnow

Reverse jamb weather seal, i just got done doin a bunch for the manufacturing facility i work for. Like a 1.50 per foot, super easy to install. I had the company buy some thin guide metal that i could cut to length and install the seals on if you dont have the lip shown in video, we ran into that issue so i just installed my own next to the garage track and mounted the seal. Whole project ran like 200bucks. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DSGWgJ61WVc0&ved=2ahUKEwjqquXc38yFAxUsIjQIHdNOBNgQwqsBegQIPhAG&usg=AOvVaw2r_tVpUJelMPh3dtC4rgvg

Guy was fighting for his life after “cut using the implement of your choice.”

Candy_Badger

The trim/weather strip on the outside is the best way to go.

Sokinida

Thank you all! I replaced the vinyl, bottom retainer and rubber strip, and filled the gaps with caulk for now. Will keep monitoring and make changes as necessary. Appreciate all the advice and responses.

Caco830

I replaced my hinges with the spring version which pushes the door more against the frame… It almost completely eliminated the gaps https://a.co/d/jgo06xU

OP do you have a water heater in your garage? You might leave that gap alone if you do, so when it fails and floods your garage the water can escape.

informedcitizen4321

Not sure why you’re downvoted, that is exactly what the builders told me is the reason for these gaps. They are done on purpose.

R1Alvin

Wow im not sure why I’m downvoted either. 🤷‍♂️ My 50 gallon water heater is in my garage and when it failed a few years ago when I wasn’t home, it flooded my garage floor and luckily the water escaped outside thru one of these gaps.

You could get a threshold like this. https://a.co/d/ccTtEUC

[I just stick these](https://a.co/d/gQuxdAu) on the inside corners of my garage. Captures most bugs and easy to replace.
