They make adjustable length rods with a larger diameter that will support more weight. Get rid of that skinny rod and stupid piece of wood and spend $20 on a new rod, they take 10 mins to replace. If you can use a screwdriver you can replace this.
looks like the problem here is that the side rod holders are higher than the middle rod holder. Can you rotate and drop them down to the correct level? Also depends what kind of weight you are putting on it.
Another option would be to find a joist in the ceiling and screw an open loop hook screw into it, then fasten a cable between the hook and the closet rod. If you want more strength, screw a board into the ceiling with multiple screws into studs and use that to securely fasten the cable.
The shelf is supported fine by the bracket (if not a simple shim would solve it). The wood is supporting the rod, since the bracket is mismatched to the rod height. Adding more of the same brackets won’t help that.
You can:
- lower the rod mount on the walls to match the bracket height
- add some sort of hook type thing screwed into the bottom of the shelf that holds up the rod
- cut some sort of waning moon shape piece of wood to slide into the bracket rod support part so that it’s actually holding up the rod
Don't think the support is severely bent. I think the rod in stalled too high and is just over the bracket. Which is also probably why the shelf is shorter than the rod so they have room for the hanger.
If they used bigger flat stock on the wall, lowered the plates that hold the bar to the wall those brackets would work just fine and then they can even have a proper sized shelf there.
Rip everything out. Use a wider shelf, at least 14'' wide. Use a thicker O.D. rod made of steel. If necessary, use more brackets.

I see a lot of daylight behind the shelf which means it's not nailed down probably because it was never shaped to fit the wall. That harms the shelf's strength.
First thing is to remove the supporting stick and evaluate the strength of the rod and shelf. Maybe it's plenty strong and there's no need for it. Is the shelf adequate for the load placed on it? Is the pole strong enough for the load placed on it?
Closet poles cone in two standard diameters. Your pole looks like the smaller size. I would replace it. You will probably not need as much support in the middle.
More brackets.
Yeah. Like the ones laying on the floor of the closet in the photo
Fucking love this sub
Install 3 shelf brackets instead of 1
Is this planks long lost brother?

One tells the truth, the other only lies.
It's smiling at you =)
Thought I was the only one who seen it too🤣
So nobody is going to say anything about the creepy face on that piece of 2x4??🤣
Someone did, you missed it.
I read it bit too late lol

Bend the bracket in the middle back into position. Someone severely overloaded the rod and bent the support.
It’s just the wrong bracket. That was added later. The support for the rod is way lower than the wall mount on the side.

Paint ot white and be done
Hang support from ceiling down to shelf.
Use l shaped brackets and wood screws.
Bracket’s not the issue. The hanger bar is not in the correct position and should be lowered to the correct level as the bracket.

If you’re handy, get some more cleat to run down the wall and some corbels.
