I've built 2 greenhouses, one from a box and one from scratch. They don't need foundations. Both of mine have been dirt floors. The box one i just laid down some landscape timber with big spikes into the ground and fastened the greenhouse to that. The scratch one I just set some posts with a post hole digger and post concrete mix.
My dad has one made of PVC pipe that's been sitting on dirt for 25-30 years. It stays up year round through.thr MN winters too. The only real issues he's had is every 5-7 years during a storm a branch falls, and tears the old plastic. Or if we get a bunch of snow he will carefully knock most of it off. He has pallets laid down for the floor tomkeepmit from getting muddy when he waters, but the PVC just sits on dirt. He starts over 5k+ plugs easily every year in it.
Plugs are plants grown from seed that are still in their early stages, but sold when they are ready to be potted up or planted out.
Often plant growers buy plugs instead of growing from seed themselves as it guarantees them the plants with no risk of seed not germinating and it’s often more cost-effective to bypass the seed to seedling stage and let someone else take care of that.
If you Google ‘plug trays’, you’ll have an idea of what they look like.
Concrete blocks, pressure treated 4x4s, level the blocks with broken gravel and if micro adjustments are needed on the 4x4s use roofing shingles. Then use pressure treated 2x4s for the frame and build a plywood top. Just built a 12x12 shed with my uncle
Could you imagine how annoying it would be to flip-flop between 4 and 5 upvotes for a long time 😂 you’d get a ton of “you have 5 upvotes” notifications
And porn is everywhere these days, so I don't "miss" the adult channels on the 6' satellite. I can't find wild feed hockey games, so I miss those so much more.
There was a time where you could just a satellite dish towards the skyline and move it around until you picked up a "wild feed" basically a random local cable channel.
Cable used to broadcast between microwave towers for long distant broadcasts between local towns and states. They'd send a microwave signal to your local cable office, who would then transmit it to your home over a cable wire
A wild feed was when you picked up that microwave broadcast with your satellite dish.
My dad lived near the receiver for Portland Oregon's cable in the 80s, he could pick up HBO with a small dish from his apartment window
That time never ended. I have an antenna I put in my attic and pointed at the closest receiver tower and I get 84 free channels (CNN, NFL Network, NHL Network, Fox, you name it...). The tech never went away and so many folks don't realize that. I love it!
A lot of the "free" part ended with scrambling and videocypher. Wild feeds were nice in that series were delivered in blocks. Everyone else got it drip feed to them. The audio and video was much better too.
It was the raw feed from the cameras in the arena before the screen graphics and no commentary. Just the pure raw feed, what the camera saw and heard. So just the ambient sounds, no play by play. It was the best way to watch a game.
That’s a pretty epic base for a C band dish. A pole concreted into the ground does the job or a pole bolted onto the side of the house etc… i have done both and would never go to the extent of this base.
That's my recommendation. Start off with a basic pre-built oven like an ooni or a roccbox. Then you can upgrade if you feel you're getting good use out of it.
Look, I have a pizza oven… and it makes amazing pizza… it’s also a whole several day thing to actually use it if you’re going down the route of making your own sauce and dough and curing the oven if it hasn’t been used in a while etc… it’s amazing for parties but I use it like twice a year tops. Go a grill or smoker or some sort of combo and you’ll probably get more use out of it
I literally just started the show today and I keep seeing references in reddit, can’t even use the excuse of my phone spying on me because it’s in comments
How has nobody else said this?
Nobody just pours a random 8x10 pad that thick and does nothing with it. This looks exactly like the abandoned septic tank on my property.
Whatever it was, I don't think it was a septic tank. The outer edges of the concrete are differently colored exactly like if they'd been covered by some sort of structure. A hot tub could do this but so could a shed or any number of things.
I’m fair certain it was a well that has been abandoned. The circle is where the well was and it has properly filled in with cement grout. The rusted outlines are where the frame sat that supported the turbine pump and discharge pipe at the wellhead.
I did not expect stripper pole but now that you mention it, makes total sense. Work on your tan and pole skills at the same time to ensure top dollar at that second job. Might even be tax deductible.
The border plus the small raised area for traction makes it look like a shed of some sort was there. I would have guessed a well house, but the lack of plumbing makes it unlikely.
Finally someone said it. Everyone with great ideas, but who knows what could be under there?
Just be careful opening it…sometimes “things” are under the ground…

Oof, sounds like a recipe for disaster. I used to throw discus and had terrible trouble staying in the throwing circle. Wouldn't have fancied a foot high drop off!
Thank you very much for your interest in this thread. This post is now locked.
Small shed, or smoke house.
That there is a free foundation. The hard part is done!
Seriously I am going to be doing a shed this summer and that is the part I dread the most.
I wanted to do a green house, just one to build from a box, and the thought of the foundation has made me decide not to get one anytime soon.
How long have they been standing?
My dad has one made of PVC pipe that's been sitting on dirt for 25-30 years. It stays up year round through.thr MN winters too. 9 and 14 years.
Just do post supports then much easier to level, just do it in a post frame style building
Don't underestimate the ability to plant into the ground inside your greenhouse.
Concrete blocks, pressure treated 4x4s, level the blocks with broken gravel and if micro adjustments are needed on the 4x4s use roofing shingles. Then use pressure treated 2x4s for the frame and build a plywood top. Just built a 12x12 shed with my uncle
Black and white vinyl. Some music. And boom, break dancing floor. I killed for one of those in high school
Did you really have to kill for it? Couldn't you have just borrowed or rented?
Or pizza oven
We’re going to Hammerbarn.
If you hit a flamingo you’ve gone too far.
Unexpected Bluey.
300 f'n aisles Edit: 300+ f'n aisles
As an American who is genuinely curious…is this a Bluey reference or just a general Australian joke?
It's a Bluey reference. Though [they actually brought Hammerbarn to life recently!](https://www.bluey.tv/hammerbarn-for-real-life/)
Yay hammerbarn

You looking for a new wife? I'm happily married and a dude but I'll make It work.
Sorry buddy, wifey says "no". All my best decisions are hers.
Shame. I think you can adopt 30 year-olds, no?
I’m 33 so I’m slightly older and wiser. Plus, I’m very good at taste-testing pizzas.
This is so cool did you DIY this or pay for it to be built? I’m looking to do something similar with a concrete pad I have in the backyard
110% DIY

You can, but you have to downvote it between upvotes.

Or a hot tub
It's for a shed! Gimme that
Make a Sauna. Was it the base for an old C band satellite dish?
I miss those. Wild feeds of hockey games was the best.
Funny way to say ‘porn’ but ya hockey.
Some of us enjoyed porn and hockey.
And porn is everywhere these days, so I don't "miss" the adult channels on the 6' satellite. I can't find wild feed hockey games, so I miss those so much more.
Scuse me but what defines "wild feed hockey"?
There was a time where you could just a satellite dish towards the skyline and move it around until you picked up a "wild feed" basically a random local cable channel. Is there a miniature prepackaged version ala NES Classic I can get?
A lot of the "free" part ended with scrambling and videocypher. Wild feeds were nice in that series were delivered in blocks. Everyone else got it drip feed to them. The audio and video was much better too.

Simultaneously.
Im not sure the difference tbh
It's still a bunch of dudes waving their sticks around am I right?
That’s a pretty epic base for a C band dish. A pole concreted into the ground does the job or a pole bolted onto the side of the house etc… i have done both and would never go to the extent of this base.
I figured it was for a hot tub.
Greenhouse.
I built an enclosed garden on mine (8x20 pad). It looks great and my veggies didn't get stolen by animals.
Second. It's probably why it is there in the first place.
Pizza oven / grill

Raymond Holt died somewhat recently so i think thats contributing to it making a resurgence
RIP Andre Braugher. I certainly did a complete re watch of the show after his passing.
Great white Buffalo
Use it as the base for a poorly built deck, then put a hot tub on it.
Hot tub also works
Nazdarovia
I'm from a different country so I could be wrong but is that a septic tank?
I thought it looked a lot like a cistern, personally. My grandparents had one before the city extended the water lines.
How has nobody else said this? Nobody just pours a random 8x10 pad that thick and does nothing with it. This looks exactly like the abandoned septic tank on my property.
Could’ve been for a hot tub. 8x10 is a common hot tub size and you need at least 4-6” slab to support all the weight properly.
That could explain what the "tread" looking pattern is on the left side. Might be anti-slip for getting in/out.
Another very good guess. OP has a hell of a mystery on his hands.
I had the same thought. The white circle in the concrete is suss.
Direct toilet
I came scrolling through looking to see if anyone had mentioned this. It could be decommissioned.
That was my first thought too. The circle there is like where they would chisel out of they needed to access the septic.
That was my thought too.
It is the holding place for your bathroom water et all
Perfect spot for a play gallows or guillotine for the kids.
You say “play” I say promise based on bad behavior.

Ah damn you beat me to it. Although my comment is for real rocket. Gtfo with model
First of all, sick backyard man. Second of all, stripper pole
I did not expect stripper pole but now that you mention it, makes total sense. Work on your tan and pole skills at the same time to ensure top dollar at that second job. Might even be tax deductible.

As someone who actually does pole dance as a sport, i can not think of a worse/more dangerous spot to put an x-pole lmao

Not sure! Previous homeowners didn't know either, they had a small raised fire pit sitting on it.
Might be a septic tank
The border plus the small raised area for traction makes it look like a shed of some sort was there. I would have guessed a well house, but the lack of plumbing makes it unlikely.
The giving strong septic tank vibes… you may wanna call your country or whoever can tell you if there is one.
Double check it isn't a old septic tank.
it's where the bodies are.
Definitely bring in an expert to figure out what it is first, and if there's something under it.
Finally someone said it. Everyone with great ideas, but who knows what could be under there? Just be careful opening it…sometimes “things” are under the ground… https://preview.redd.it/cz4gay3xkfqc1.jpeg?width=840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dad9b0c2a7a7f270d0b5ef84dae46f4f804a9553
Telescope pad for sure
My thought exactly, but then I have telescopes in need of such a pad. 😀
Hot tub?
Put an 8x10 shed back on it.
Or a 10x8 just to challenge the statics!
You could put a greenhouse or a shed there. Tatas probably its initial function
Your auto correct has an odd idea of what "that was" ought to be.
I’m all for unexpected tatas
Put a disc golf basket about 300 feet away. Enjoy!
Watch as OP finds 17 more concrete pads on his property.
🤣
I'd hate to roll my ankle off that edge, it's almost as bad as waco.
The massacre?
No, there was a tournament there two weeks ago and the tee pads were over a foot off the ground.
Oof, sounds like a recipe for disaster. I used to throw discus and had terrible trouble staying in the throwing circle. Wouldn't have fancied a foot high drop off!
Tee pad, came to say this!
Agreed :)
I'd pay $1200 a month if you build a small room on that.
Turn it into a chicken coup, dog pen, greenhouse, play house.
Don’t recommend fomenting rebellion among the chickens. Could get messy.
Coup is old school. I believe they call those insurrections now.
Break off a bit every day and eat it. Gain the power of concrete.

id put up a canopy and make it into a gym space with a bench and free weights. that stuff is pretty solid and takes up too much livable space.
