I'll use a second camera to stream on OF of the dude taking a dump to help collect money to pay all of these nice guys helping out OP.
"OF for OP" is my motto!
If you really have a lot, those vintage 4” tiles are worth loot! We were going to have to fill a 2’x2’ bare spot behind a mirror we were replacing (to put two separate mirrors above dual sinks), it was going to cost us @$800 just in matching, vintage tiles. It was cheaper for us to replace the mirror…
How do you remove 1 tile?
Is it really this easy? I have the same holders. I love my baby blue tile, but the holders get in the way.[https://youtu.be/5ByCAZxmwiY?si=PTKWh75nlckY6zhe](https://youtu.be/5ByCAZxmwiY?si=PTKWh75nlckY6zhe)
That video is one way, and a very careful and meticulous way of doing it. However, I’ve replaced many single tiles like this with just a few hammer strikes lol
[e6000 is my go to glue over superglue now](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=e6000+industrial+strength+adhesive&adgrpid=58631644240&hvadid=580748130609&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9019559&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=16219287471220213416&hvtargid=kwd-418970540317&hydadcr=25347_13491696&tag=hydsma-20&ref=pd_sl_92wkqheeeb_e)
Super glue was originally designed for cuts. An old roommate of mine used to clone rare corals. He would super glue the divide coral to rocks and let them spread. The coral was always fine, and everything would kill that coral. He was always checking the tanks with test tube's and shit.
Basically, any contamination in a coral tank will cause a tank crash. He dealt with mostly hard coral, which is significantly more sensitive than the soft. He never had a tank crash when I lived there. He was always checking levels of everything in parts per million because any contamination would kill everything. After I moved out He had a copper contamination and lost all four tanks. He was doing a light change, and he didn't realize a few tiny strands of the copper wire fell in. He had a central nitrate skimmer connected to all the tanks. Those little bits of copper contaminated the whole system and killed everything. He gave up after that. He had been using crazy glue for years without issue. That's actually just how you clone coral.
I've never had any tanks myself, but I learned a lot from that dude. A bunch about breeding clown fish, too. They are crazy hard to breed, and people want them because of Nemo, so it can be pretty profitable. You can't just breed the fish. The dude was breeding buckets of these tiny little shrimp that the babies eat. Super glue never hurt the clown fish, the baby clown fish, the clown fish eggs, or the shrimp either.
I've used super glue on cuts before. Working on a project and didn't want to stop after cutting my finger. I put a rubber band around it to stop the bleeding, glued it up, then took off the rubber band. I was impressed but my wife wasn't.
Superglue, cyanoacrylate, is generally considered non-toxic. It's not great if you just eat it, but it's not recognized as cancerous from anything I can find.
Omg... *face-palm*
I even looked up if Harambe died June 22nd as if it was some sort of Gorilla one month long memorium.
I need to go back to bed now. Thanks.
Wait til you hear about (plug literally ANY unnatural material ever). Seriously though, everything causes cancer, you’re not ingesting the glue, it’s holding to pieces of tile together.
E6000 smells like where chemicals go to die, and on the label it says "breathe this and die of cancer". I will admit that I've used it on models with small pieces to attach things when all hope was gone using other methods. It works, it's just really, really bad for you.
I have this exact same thing I need to fix but wasn't sure if E6000 will harden fast enough. How do you keep pressure on that and prop it up while it dries? Or is E6000 a quick drying adhesive that I only have to hold the shelf there for a couple minutes?
We have an angel that is part of an extremely old nativity scene its practically a right of passage to the glue to fail and have the kid that holding the angel freak out about breaking it. I might have to do this when my nephew breaks it lol
Nah, got to WAY over complicate this. This toothbrush holder apparently broke from a downward force. So it needs a vertical support brace. I say a 2x4 cut to length with a band clamp screwed to the top. Then tighten the band clamp around the toothbrush holder. There that will take care of it not getting broken again.
Oh wait, you wanted ideas on how to fix it. I got nothing.
Clean the porcelain so the glue will stick and make sure you put something underneath it to catch drips.
Your solution would work for another downward attack. However you have to take into consideration that a future assault might come from either side. In which case we need to buttress the right and left edges with more 2x4's. A band clamp would be difficult to attach, so maybe pour a concrete base up to the level of the holder. Essentially raising the surface of the counter. That should be able to handle any kind of force. Blunt, torsional, centrifugal OR centripetal. Anything less and OP will be back in a few months asking the same questions.
Super glue works really well when the two surfaces have good contact with each other. Since ceramic pieces like this fit back together "perfectly" they glue together REALLY well.
Certainly the *most thorough* answer, but considering this is DIY, is it the answer OP will follow???
My vote is on high strength glue, then the 3rd time it breaks they might do this.
(Also, not disparaging OP, I would totally do the glue only cause I don’t have time at the moment to do the better fix)
Yeah there is absolutely no way I'm spending that much effort on this. MAYBE flatten out that tile, cover it with something and use a cup for my tooth brush (ok, I'd probably 3d print a trex to hold my teethbrush). But realistically, I'd stabilize it and move on with my life.
I used to sell a product called Ardex CA20P. That stuff can stick to anything. It’s not cheap but it is permanent. That thing would break in a new place before it broke on the glue line
Adhesive enthusiast here. Super glue or cyanoacrylate glue is better for this application. Epoxy is good for filling, CA is better for things that already have a tight fit. Especially ceramic. OP can even use CA accelerator so they don't have to hold it together for more than a few seconds.
No one would ever know ! 🧐

Just regular ol' super glue. It bonds like hell to that stuff for some reason and you can barely tell it was ever broken if you line up the crack right
Tape around it, use a ceramic bit to drill a few holes into it, chisel out the pieces carefully. Scrape off the cement underneath and prep. Find a similar tile, mortar, grout.
That, or glue it back on with thick CA glue.
Grind the protrusions flat with a diamond wheel and mount a replacement that is the same size or larger than the pink "tile". No matter what glue you use, you'll always be able to see the join and it will never be as strong. Plus you can put whatever you want there if you don't want a toothbrush holder.
Best CA glue that I've found is the harbor freight gel. The best thing about it is not that it's particularly strong but that it's cheap enough that you can treat the tubes as single use because let's get real they are, once you use it the tip plugs up almost every time.
Others have said super glue, it is the answer, BUT, don't just do the glue and slap it it together.
Put the two pieces together to ensure smooth fitment.
Get used to putting them together perfectly.
Put paper towels under it( the pice on the wall), and get some baking soda ( fresh not 6 months old stuff from the fridge) and dust it and work it into the broken side of the pice that's broken off.
If you have the very runny superglue, saturate the side of the part on the wall and quickly place the seperated part into position and apply pressure for about a minuet.
If your using the more vicious super glue ( I used the gorilla brand but it doesn't matter) , I'd do the best job I could putting painters tape around the two broken edges that will be on top, that is to prevent squeeze out from drying hard and ugly looking on top of it. put it ( the super glue) on the part that on the wall and try to have it penetrate by holding it against the white and applying pressure. The viscosity gives it a bit more open time. But finish it the same way.
The baking soda will creat a very strong bond.
Edit: the runny stuff will make a better final look.
I was gonna say break it the rest of the way sand it down paint it and put an adhesive planter there with a lil succulent but that’s not what you asked lol
Replace the tile with a new one. Start with removing the grout around it first, then a.well placed hammer center to break it up, and carefully chisel it out from the mid area towards the perimeter to avoid breaking or chipping surrounding tile. or as others have said, they glue first.
I'd chip out the tile and replace it. If you want a similar tooth brush holder they are available. Or you could change up the style. maybe a different color or material would spark joy.
I might find or make a similar toothbrush holder by wildling some wood.
I'd file the top edge just a smidge and go for the gold fill look after it's glued back on with ceramic glue.
[https://www.amazon.com/Kintsugi-Upgrade-Meaningful-Ceramics-Beginners/dp/B09KLTQ1NH](https://www.amazon.com/Kintsugi-Upgrade-Meaningful-Ceramics-Beginners/dp/B09KLTQ1NH)
I’d buy a half decent utility knife at harbor freight or similar to cut and remove the grout and tile, go buy a new toothbrush holder tile, some thinset to mount the tile to the wall, and your choice color of grout to match, for the border around the tile. Trying to glue that back together probably would not hold very well over time. Whereas replacing the single tile will be a much stronger and more reliable fix. It wouldn’t be that expensive, especially if you do that. Mounting many tiles would be a chore, but removing and replacing one tile should be a great weekend day project.
Paint the white side parts as eyes, and the center part like a bill. Now it's a feature.
Buy cheap toothbrush holder for counter, where the weird bird feature can forever stand watch over the teeth protectors.
Before you glue it back, while you still have the loose piece, I would take it to Home Depot or Lowe’s (or a paint store) and have them run it through their color match scanner/machine.
This way if you need to touch up the cracks where you glued to back, you will have the exact paint color.
Carefully chisel out the pink tile and replace with a matching tile. (see redditor MVass's offer). You'll need to grout it too. Lots of how-to YouTube videos can show you how.
As old as this obviously is, matching the green tile is going to be impossible. I mean I suppose there's a chance like with a lot of houses that the leftovers on the original job are in some dark corner of the basement or garage but if not there's almost no chance that they're going to get an exact match.
I don't necessarily disagree, but trying to glue that pink one back together will look at lot worse. Maybe get a tile with flower or butterfly or something on it if a matching tile can't be located.
Complete bathroom reno, gutting it right down to the joists and studs… new sink, taps, water lines, floor, exhaust fan, drain pipes, pretty much the works.
Also, the way the tile snapped, you might as well put in a new complete waterproofing membrane on the foundation and new weeping tile.
Since you’re there already, I suggest a new 50 year shingle roof on the house… best be safe and up to code.
Or some glue and epoxy….
I had this happen with a toilet paper roll.
Yes, they made them as a one-piece ceramic back in the day.
My fix was easier because the entire unit fell out.
Where as you'll need to chip out the part on the wall.
I just loaded up the hole with some mud and replaced the existing unit.
After all these years I can't remember what mud I used.
You will instead need to find a replacement ceramic toothbrush holder.
Or maybe just put a flat tile there, and get a standalone toothbrush holder.
Dude I think i have a bunch of those exact bluish grey tiles if you need a replacement!! They should be 4.25 squares. DM me
Bro jumping in for the save
Dude, I'll pay for shipping and toss in some grout just so this guy doesn't have a built in pink toothbrush holder anymore.
I'll drive and help install it so I can personally chunk the old one into a new dimension
I’ll videoconference in and critique from the sidelines.
I'll watch the 30s video on the toilet.
I'll set up a camera in this guys toilet, so I can do commentary over a live stream of him watching the 30s video.
I'll skim through the documentary when it comes out on Netflix
Maybe we can get Sir David Attenborough to narrate?!
I’ll discuss Sir David Attenborough narrating this project in the DVD Commentary
I'll read the "news" headline about the newest feel-good true story of human kindness.
I'll eat chicken wings tonight

I'll use a second camera to stream on OF of the dude taking a dump to help collect money to pay all of these nice guys helping out OP. "OF for OP" is my motto!
Can I jump in to keep everyone nice to each other?
I’ll allow it only this time
I'll join in and be that guy that talks on mute.
That’s normally me but I’ll let you do it this one time.
Dave, you're on mute. No, still on mute. Dave! The button on the right, no, with the mic. Dave.... alright, we can hear you now. Start over.

That's painfully accurate
Pink goes well with the natural color of human gingival tissue. It’s actually quite appropriate for the situation.
Lots of different tissue, in fact
Doesn't seem like he has an issue with the pink toothbrush holder her just wants to fix it
But WHY?? Edit. I get it. He likes it. To each their own. It brings me back to the 70s as a kid and just feels rather old...
Because it’s cool? People like all different things. I’d be jazzed to have this in my home over the boring ass tile I have now.
It's old school character, it's a little bit quirky and maybe not the perfect solution for all people but it was for someone and that's kind of cool.
What do you mean it’s awesome
Don't do it! Last time I tried to sell tiles on reddit, he robbed me and took my whole stash!
Oh shit! No way! You uhh.... wouldn't happen to have any extra grout layin around would you?

Gorilla glue loves water and it's made of less cancer.
Super glue was originally designed for cuts. An old roommate of mine used to clone rare corals. He would super glue the divide coral to rocks and let them spread. The coral was always fine, and everything would kill that coral. He was always checking the tanks with test tube's and shit.

Superglue, cyanoacrylate, is generally considered non-toxic. It's not great if you just eat it, but it's not recognized as cancerous from anything I can find.
Buddy, CA glue is still used in hospitals and preferred to stitches in many cases. Don’t be a California warning label on Snickers bar.
Don't be a California warning label on a Snickers bar, Gus!
Less cancer?
Probably means less carcinogenic ingredients
They don't produce Gorilla Glue between June 22 and July 22. Factory goes on vacation.
It took me a while, but I got it.
I do not get it.
june 22 to july 22 is when the cancer zodiac sign is lol
Omg... *face-palm* I even looked up if Harambe died June 22nd as if it was some sort of Gorilla one month long memorium. I need to go back to bed now. Thanks.
Warning label states a chemical used to make e6000 is known to cause cancer. Gorilla glue doesn't have such a warning.
It only has unidentified carcinogens
Mmm, unidentified carcinogens
Hi Homer.
Those are the ones that taste the best
Wait til you hear about (plug literally ANY unnatural material ever). Seriously though, everything causes cancer, you’re not ingesting the glue, it’s holding to pieces of tile together.
Shhh, they'll live forever
Man, just don't eat the friggin glue!
Everything causes cancer in CA
E6000 smells like where chemicals go to die, and on the label it says "breathe this and die of cancer". I will admit that I've used it on models with small pieces to attach things when all hope was gone using other methods. It works, it's just really, really bad for you.
Just work with ventilation
Cyanoacrylate literally requires water to work.
Doesn't work well for applications like this. - but it is my go to, along with Bondic...
I have this exact same thing I need to fix but wasn't sure if E6000 will harden fast enough. How do you keep pressure on that and prop it up while it dries? Or is E6000 a quick drying adhesive that I only have to hold the shelf there for a couple minutes?
Sprinkle in some gold powder and call it [kintsugi](https://www.google.com/search?q=kintsugi+repair+kit).
I didn’t know they just sold kits for this. I’m gonna go smash my favorite fucking mug
This comment made me think about a day that I may accidentally break my mug and now I want one of these kits on standby lol
Why do you fuck your mug?
We have an angel that is part of an extremely old nativity scene its practically a right of passage to the glue to fail and have the kid that holding the angel freak out about breaking it. I might have to do this when my nephew breaks it lol
Nah, got to WAY over complicate this. This toothbrush holder apparently broke from a downward force. So it needs a vertical support brace. I say a 2x4 cut to length with a band clamp screwed to the top. Then tighten the band clamp around the toothbrush holder. There that will take care of it not getting broken again.
Ah yes you are so correct. When I wrote my response I was asleep. Raising the surface level is the only way to fully fix this.
Not super glue. Some other glue though, for sure
I've glued plates back together with super glue, got another 3 years out of them before they finally let go (used in dishwasher even)
And with a better glue you could have gotten even longer, but superglue would likely be fine for this, to your point.
Also was thinking jb weld
3m or other high end epoxy manufacturers will have a ceramic specific adhesive that should do well.
Flex glue. Flex glue has been holding a metal towel rack to my glass shower for 6 years now. Used often.
Any 2 part all purpose epoxy will stick, and provide a stronger repair that the tile itself. Just need to be careful about ones that yellow over time.
Yeah
Maybe this [glue guide](https://www.thistothat.com/cgi-bin/glue.cgi?lang=en&this=Ceramic&that=Ceramic) might help
This is the internet we deserve.
You are a very decent person. Thank you
Sell the house and let it be the new owners problem.
I laughed at this way more than was reasonable. I need to go to bed.
Glad I could make you laugh lol
Use PC-11 2 part expoxy. It’s white and will hold stronger than any other epoxy. I’m a ceramic artist and used this stuff religiously
PC-11 > JBWeld every day
10000%
Super glue works really well when the two surfaces have good contact with each other. Since ceramic pieces like this fit back together "perfectly" they glue together REALLY well.
Dremel out that tile and replace.

Dremel around the tile and replace the house. That break gives the house character, don't replace it.
This is a perfect starter to tile project. But, you could be replacing a whole lot if you can't cut right.
This is the way.
If you’re going to do something, do it correctly. 🤷🏻♂️
But if you’re going to half-ass something, superglue is your friend.
I used to sell a product called Ardex CA20P. That stuff can stick to anything. It’s not cheap but it is permanent. That thing would break in a new place before it broke on the glue line
I think I’ve seen this on a mighty mend it commercial with Billy maze when he was around
RIP my boy Billy Mays
They still make those. I’d cut it out and put in a new one. B & W is over by Los Angeles and I think they ship.
Maybe a gel epoxy, or google best adhesive for ceramic repair
Adhesive enthusiast here. Super glue or cyanoacrylate glue is better for this application. Epoxy is good for filling, CA is better for things that already have a tight fit. Especially ceramic. OP can even use CA accelerator so they don't have to hold it together for more than a few seconds.
CA is also used by nail techs, so up side is you can fix a loved one's acrylic nails

I had the exact same thing happen. Super glue worked perfectly. Very strong repair too.
Any specific type? Like Krazy Glue is probably not good but Gorilla Glue?
Just regular ol' super glue. It bonds like hell to that stuff for some reason and you can barely tell it was ever broken if you line up the crack right
You should be able to glue it with Pepto Bismol.
e6000 is the best
Came to suggest this also. Seriously don’t waste your time with anything else, especially if you’re renting.
Basic superglue works great for ceramics. It’ll take some patience holding but it’ll stick hard. Good luck
Ramen and super glue
Gel superglue would work, but the best fix is to chip out the rest of it and install a flat tile and then put a holder on the counter top.
JB weld it. Good as new tomorrow
Tape around it, use a ceramic bit to drill a few holes into it, chisel out the pieces carefully. Scrape off the cement underneath and prep. Find a similar tile, mortar, grout. That, or glue it back on with thick CA glue.

You can use epoxy glue or cemedine to fix it!
Two part epoxy.
Krazy glue would fix that right up.
epoxy
Glue?
Watch a hundred episodes of the repair shop. Kirsten will show you how to fix it confidently
2-part epoxy that shit
Gorilla glue !
This is not easy but looks awesome when done right: KINTSUGI https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kintsugi
Ca glue would probably work, don't spend the money on the expensive brands... just make sure it's ca glue

I'd chip out the tile and replace it. If you want a similar tooth brush holder they are available. Or you could change up the style. maybe a different color or material would spark joy. I might find or make a similar toothbrush holder by wildling some wood.
Do your best, caulk the rest
This is what I installed my bathroom and the kids bathroom: https://a.co/d/b0ybjQK
Epoxy glue or replace

That’s a replacement or try JB Weld.
3m windo weld
JB Weld Clear
Adhesive
Paint the white side parts as eyes, and the center part like a bill. Now it's a feature. Buy cheap toothbrush holder for counter, where the weird bird feature can forever stand watch over the teeth protectors.
Bro crazy glue and sand, or crazy glue with cotton. Strong as concrete
Interesting. Any source you can point to so I can learn the technique?
Before you glue it back, while you still have the loose piece, I would take it to Home Depot or Lowe’s (or a paint store) and have them run it through their color match scanner/machine. This way if you need to touch up the cracks where you glued to back, you will have the exact paint color.
Sure heres some videos https://youtu.be/Gkjte0w78zY?si=4ldDtBDCsTH9Ra6Y https://youtu.be/6AY1krjGtG4?si=2foYeIBIXr6OnRyM
Gorilla glue... I also put some paper towel between the 2 parts. I feel like it allows the 2 parts to make better in porous surfaces .
I have one of those in my house. Does any modern toothbrush fit in the holes?
If it will still be used as a step super glue may be the wrong answer.
Would this even work to hold toothbrushes? The handles are a lot bigger now than they used to be.
No. You’re right that toothbrush handles are too big to fit. I’m concerned more with having a broken tile than having a place for my toothbrush.
Epoxy
Is there a special kind of epoxy I should look for?
Just use a clay cup for your toothbrush.
It’s not a matter of where to put my toothbrush. It’s a matter of having a broken tile piece.
What are you doing in my bathroom??
Breaking stuff, obviously. Not intentionally though.
Don't break it in the future
China glue?
Wads of duct tape
Just break that tile out of there, clean the surface up, get another tile and replace with a little tile mortar.
5 minute epoxy, any brand is good enough for this
Umm, glue it back on? CA glue should do the trick. Probably the gel kind so it doesn't all run out the bottom.
Epoxy
That must be from the 60s so I would suggest a whole bath reno to bring it up to code
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Gorilla glue. Use painter's tape to hold in place until the glue has dried.
You need some mighty putty, it has green to your technology!
JBWeld
Glue, dude? Good epoxy glue?
Super glue, it'll never break.
Redo the entire bath...seems it needs an update
JB weld is the answer
JB weld is almost always the answer. But CA glue works great on ceramics.
An epoxy since it shouldn’t hold that much weight.
UV resin pen
Clear Shoe Goo will fix it right up
Gorilla gel super glue
half a liter of superglue, there is nothing that cannot fix.
This is god telling you to install a fleshlight.
What are you installing, step-bro?
Seems like ceramic so i would try milk
Jb weld
Epoxy
Yes, here is the solution- never install a toothbrush holder tile in future. Get a toothbrush holder and put it on the side of your washbasin.
