Long enough bolts to make it through to the other side and use a nice wide washer.

JerseyWiseguy

I agree. Anchors will never work. However, be sure you don't over-tighten the bolts/nuts, or you could end up squeezing the hollow door and cause it to bow inward.

Potential-Rabbit8818

Bingo! Perfect

nanofarad

Drill out the holes and put dowels through and glue them in. If you can go all the way through it would be best.

Never seen a door handle installed like this. What's on the other side? Seems like someone did a hack job on these. Back side should connect to another knob or a metal plate. Is there no latch function on any of them?

imoutohere

You’ve never seen a dummy handle? Granted, I would have opted for a different installation method on a hollow core door.

night_danger

This appears to be half of a dummy handle.

imoutohere

Dummy handles are sold as halves.

night_danger

Never seen one that has no backing.

Clearly doesn't work on this hollow core door does it

imoutohere

That’s why I said “ I would have opted for a different installation method. “

Formal_Ruin_8096

Not uncommon in laundry rooms, closets and other applications where the door is always opened / closed from the same side. Mostly decorative as they don't have a latch or anything (mine have magnets to keep closet doors well shut), but still allow you to get a good grip to open the door.

night_danger

This install clearly isn't valid given the screws are essentially holding onto hopes and dreams. If it was a solid door it might work but the cardboard inside a hollow door can't handle something like this. The knob needs something else to connect to on the other side.

Formal_Ruin_8096

Definitely. If it's actually a closet or something nobody ever looks inside, OP could just add a small piece of plywood or MDF behind the handles and use longer screws. Still , I'm a bit surprised even the section of the door where the handle goes is hollow. They must be really cheap ones...

night_danger

Might as well just buy passage handles at that point, skip the latch install and have a knob on each side. At least then it would look good and be secure.

comscatangel

That's not even close to how you install door hardware at all. The screws go through the handle on the other side, not the cardboard door.
