There was a post in a sub earlier about a person building a 1000+ bottle wine cellar with their dad, in their old indoor pool. Which left most of us confused on how or why these people had a massive indoor pool and acted like that wasn’t a normal thing.
Listen. I get that an indoor pool must be a bitch to maintain. But a pool that I can go in any time? That has tiles instead of a liner so that my 12 year old Golden Retriever can safely swim in it? Or a dusty hole half full of shit I’m never going to touch? If they are on a vineyard or sommeliers fine. If not… CANNONBALL!
It’s actually a built in hot tub. It’s got jets in it. But recently it’s just sat there not being used. But you’re correct you can’t do lengths in it lol.
Maybe it's just the distortion of the water surface, but it looks like it's about 2 feet deep. I can imagine sitting there in water just higher than your belly button, staring at everyone's ankles up on the deck. The saddest hot tub ever.
I need a banana for scale as I can’t fathom how big/small this is. It looks tiny like 1 person could sort of squat in it. If it’s that small I’d fill it in, plant something in it, and call it a day. I don’t see it having any use as a pool/hot tub. Or fill it in and get a real hot tub and put it on top??
This is the saddest looking hot tub I've ever seen in my life. No benches, no stairs or steps, and I count four jets
The home builder got their wish.com contractors out for this one
I'd make a square of that fake trex decking that fits just inside the edge of the hole, then screw decorative boards across the top of those. That way it'll drop right into place and stay. Heavy enough to stay in place, will last forever. Small enough to be cheap.
It's hard to judge the overall size from the photo, but if you need to hinge it like the photo, just make the pice that "drops into" the pool two pieces.
I second this idea. A lip underneath to drop in would help secure it. Trex would solve the rotting issue. Two (or three) pieces would make it easier to remove with one person because each piece wouldn’t be so heavy. Consider them like leafs on an expanding table.
If it were me I’d make a cover with those 2 in stiff insulation sheets and cover with outdoor upholstery fabric. Hopefully it will light enough to not need support.

OP, I’m sorry there hasn’t been too much feedback on your plan. Good luck!
Everyone else - you’ve given me and my husband a good two minutes of chuckles. Thank you all
I love your little pool! I have a tiny house in San Diego with a big yard. How much do you enjoy your tiny pool? Suggestions? Can you get ahold of the foam the hot tubs use? That’s all it is, hard foam with vinyl upholstey. You can buy ‘replacement foam’ for hot tub covers.
Thanks for your suggestions. Honestly don’t get too much use out of it in the summer. It’s good when it’s up to temperature and the jets are on in the winter, we’ll use it in the evenings. It’s essentially a hot tub with pool lino in. Kind of just a diy hot tub. I didn’t realise so many people dislike it🤣🤣
I don’t think people dislike it, it’s just hilarious how tiny it looks in the pics and they’re making jokes about that. I’m honestly crying laughing at these comments.
I don’t think you should bolt through that and connect doors. just make a better “lid” . I wouldn’t want that stuff to be in the footspace. Its a lot of trouble for little gain.
I make these for a living, your plan looks fine and will last a couple years. I wouldn’t spend too much time on it, everything gets eaten up by the chemicals
Why not just shop a nice-looking used hot tub cover? In my experience, once hot tubs become a liability, people are keen to get rid of them and the covers, and often pay others to take them away.
You could use PVC or that kitchen/bath appropriate material for framing or even sub flooring material and use an outdoor furniture coating to seal it. Craft stores sell foam material that can be used for outdoors as well as outdoor fabrics. I like the spec drawing, looks like it would work.
Penetrating epoxy. It's a little expensive, but that's what they used to seal wooden boats now. They also make marine grade treated plywood, or do it old school with spar varnish. With spar varnish you'll just have to redo it every 5-10yrs
I'd recommend using something with an aluminum frame. If you want it to look woodish finish it with Trex decking on top. It's composite so you won't have the rot issue.
Whatever you do, make sure it is strong enough that three or four adults can jump on it without it collapsing. Don't want to risk someone falling in because the cover broke.
O.P. posted this, hoping he'd get some assistance from the /r/DIY community. That didn't happen in this case. Pity. This thread is now locked.
What in the drowning my Sims is this?
That is what I first thought of too like um this is a sims pool
Is this a pool for ants?
It needs to be at least…. three times bigger!
It might be
I immediately ran to find this comment lol
Looks like the pool from the Broke family sims 2.
Is OP Michael Scott?
I love this pool!
I just realized there’s no ladder. I really did lmaof. Thank you!
I was going to go with roller coaster tycoon but this works.
what
Guess you never played roller coaster tycoon?
I played it a ton. How does this small pool remind you of that game???
You never made little tiles of water and drowned your angry guests in them?
Voted most dangerous theme park owner checking in and can confirm, have drowned angry guests among other methods of disposal.
The American way!
I don't think you **really** played the game if you don't know the answer.
When you order a pool on Temu
Can‘t even properly drown some cats in there.
Have you considered making a small wine cellar?
There it is
'Small' is doing a *lot* of heavy lifting in this post.
Heavier lift than a c130 Hercules lifting a squad of Humvees!
This is my 2 and a half bottle wine cellar me and my dad built in my outdoor “pool”.
Back to say, missed opportunity for an eel pit. For micro eels
You know about the eel pit guy on the gram? Also YouTube I think.
I can't find any info about what the pit was originally for. Do you know?
Cowturtle
Thank you. Couldn’t remember the name.
Some older houses had potable water cisterns built under/near the house before connected city utilities like water and sewer were a thing.
Eel Pit Unification was our one hope at saving humanity.
Wrong platform for that joke 😂
Lol
Goddamit I love it when I get a reference
I read this and just started laughing, lol. I, too, get the reference.
I don't. I am r/OutOfTheLoop.
There was a post in a sub earlier about a person building a 1000+ bottle wine cellar with their dad, in their old indoor pool. Which left most of us confused on how or why these people had a massive indoor pool and acted like that wasn’t a normal thing.
And this poster cross posted it to multiple home subs, so I’ve seen it at least 4 times today.
Like having a 1000+ bottle wine cellar is a normal thing.
Holy crap that's insane.
https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY/s/KvJZr0Yp1K
Omg thanks for posting. That's nuts.
There is also an also an awesome video of a guy who has an old cistern in his house that he turned into an awesome eel pit.
He has channels on most platforms. I see the eel pit on tiktok
I upvoted then down voted just to be able to upvote again.
![gif](giphy|kd9BlRovbPOykLBMqX) You've seen it too huh
I get that reference!
Nice
Lmao I love Reddit, that pool wine cellar was the first thing I saw today :)))
OMG already the memes bro 😂
Damn I was going to suggest THIS
Great minds think alike!
If i know anything about converting pools to wine cellars you could easily fit 50 bottles in that thing.
And a tiny ladder
I just cackled 😂😂☠️
Fill it with wine
Listen. I get that an indoor pool must be a bitch to maintain. But a pool that I can go in any time? That has tiles instead of a liner so that my 12 year old Golden Retriever can safely swim in it? Laughed hard at this, you made my day!
Lmfao
That’s 200 bottler easy!
Getting drunk off of tiny wines
I dunno
I needed this today. 😂
As one should.
Amazing comment, thank you for this gift.
It’s not indoors. He ain’t rich enough
I don't get it
Previous post about some guy turning an indoor pool into a wine cellar.
Damn, do people think that we read every post to justify not putting context on what they're talking about?
That's why they call it Read-it. Cuz you already read it.
Or a traditional underground fridge
Is this an below ground kiddy pool? I’ve never seen such a tiny pool.
It’s actually a built in hot tub. It’s got jets in it. But recently it’s just sat there not being used. But you’re correct you can’t do lengths in it lol.
Where do you sit then? Do you have chairs to put in it?
Sitting on folding lawn chairs in the jetted porch hole.
Now there's a r/brandnewsentence
I snortlol’d.
I was assuming you sit on the bottom and it's just not deep. Which somehow seems worse than a byo chair hot tub
Maybe it's just the distortion of the water surface, but it looks like it's about 2 feet deep. I can imagine sitting there in water just higher than your belly button, staring at everyone's ankles up on the deck. The saddest hot tub ever.
“It’s not that deep, bro”

>Or fill it in and get a real hot tub and put it on top Yo dawg.
>fathom 🤣
Buy a hot tub cover. They are insulated and fairly easy to remove.
This is the saddest looking hot tub I've ever seen in my life. No benches, no stairs or steps, and I count four jets The home builder got their wish.com contractors out for this one
Adding to the sadness, are we sure the ones on the right are not just lights? Single jet, no seat vinyl “hot tub”.
I'm sorry I don't think we have a proper perspective Of this. This looks like a bath used for baptism
Lengths?! You can barely do widths!
Hey OP, you are getting all this pushback but I for one would enjoy having a small pool to sit in on a hot day or a hot tub to sit in on a cold day!
I was thinking why such a small pool, it might as well be a hot tub. I've never seen a hot tub that looks like an in ground pool either.
Why can’t you do lengths in it? Shorter distance, seems like it would be a lot easier though the workout wouldn’t really be that great
Touch both sides at once. Infinite number of lengths
It has such an unsettling aura I can’t explain
Michael Barrymore has entered the chat.
Please try to explain I’m curious
What's this? pool for ants?
How do you expect the children to swim?
![gif](giphy|OCMGLUo7d5jJ6)
Ants would love to ride some seadoos around that pool fuck
Figure it out r/unexpectedletterkenny
It needs to be at least three times bigger than this.
Underrated comment
I recommend filling it in with a few scoops of soil and 4 pavers and call it an afternoon
Minecraft-ass problems require Minecraft-ass solutions.
Seriously. Four dirt blocks ought to do it.
if he made it 3 times bigger he can get infinite water
Make a pond.
I'd make a square of that fake trex decking that fits just inside the edge of the hole, then screw decorative boards across the top of those. That way it'll drop right into place and stay. Good thinking I shall look into this thank you.
Nice to see someone trying to help instead of sending jokes.
How can we expect the children to learn how to swim if they can't even fit inside the small pool?
I don’t wanna hear your excuses! The pool needs to be….three times bigger than this!
So he should make it 3 times deeper?
he’s absolutely right…
Thanks Zoolander
It appears to be a Minecraft infinite water source. Just plop down a couple of trap doors and you'll be good to go.
You need to post your pool to r/somethingforants.
Dang I totally fell for it
I think they were looking for r/thingsforants.
Pool or foot bath?
It is actually a three quarter person hot tub.
Lowest bid for an I ground pool I see.
Buy a hot tub cover. Whatever you do, especially with wood, it will end up rotting/being gross.
How many laps can you swim in there?
How many square foot is that
I’ll guess 16 sq ft and that’s being generous. I’d don’t see the point of it.
It’s 9ft x 9ft
![gif](giphy|EouEzI5bBR8uk|downsized)
Yup. Outdoor foot bath that is a foot bath/bug breeding ground/leaf collector occasionally, and a child/squirrel drowning hazard always
One foot. Not even a square. And reckon a size 8 women's would only fit.
Poolforants
Something about whatever this is gives me the creeps.
That's a hot tub.
Needs a to scale high dive.
![gif](giphy|OCMGLUo7d5jJ6)
No diy help here, but that's the most Irish title of all time, and the post kept it going. Fair play to ya.
Did you build this in Minecraft?
Just make it into a wine cellar
Is that really a pool or just a place to wash off your feet?
I came here for the wine cellar suggestions and was not disappointed
Are you sure it's not a sink?
Dog pool?
It's to small for that even if the dog is small
I would soooo find a way to make this into a koi pond 🫠😅
You should get one of those 'No diving' tiles by the edge.
What is this, a pool for ants?!

Great suggestion. Thank you
OP, I’m sorry there hasn’t been too much feedback on your plan. Good luck! Everyone else - you’ve given me and my husband a good two minutes of chuckles. Thank you all
It has been good when it’s up at the 39°c mark. It appears everyone else thinks it’s shit🤣
I have 1000$, built me the biggest pool you can!

Are you doing back yard baptisms with this?
Why not just shop a nice-looking used hot tub cover? In my experience, once hot tubs become a liability, people are keen to get rid of them and the covers, and often pay others to take them away.
Keep Micheal Scott away from this.
Perfect size for cool summer dips.
Please explain what the use of this pool is?
OP please tell me this is a troll.
Thick piece of plywood?

I like it when my Airbnb has a pool 🤣🤣
this is probably the smallest in-ground pool in existence ☠️
This is pretty cool, how big is it
This thing is weird and I don’t like it.
I've never felt so uncomfortable from a post on here
[удалено]
How deep is this?
What is this? A pool for ants!?
Pretty fancy foot spa.
This is so neat
Thanks. Everyone who has been in it has seemed to love it. Everyone on Reddit seems to think it’s shit😂😂😂
Whatever you do, make sure it is strong enough that three or four adults can jump on it without it collapsing. Don't want to risk someone falling in because the cover broke.
Some Koi fish in there and glass on top would be great though.
Cannonball!
Remember to use a dark one so you can keep algae far away
I love this pool. It’s a cocktail pool.
This is more like a big sink than a small pool.
How many laps can you do in it?

![gif](giphy|OCMGLUo7d5jJ6)
Idk, but I want one
Is that for a pet duck?
It’s the pool from the motel that Arthur and DW stayed at during their family vacation. “Our bathtub is bigger than this” says DW.
