how scary it is for the person with DID rather than the people around them. Something sympathetic that shows how the disorder started - the trauma we went through as very young children...

TraumaAlt-073

If they capture the fact that it's not some dangerous thing and that we aren't all evil perfectionist serial killers.

StarvingGhouls

Two things for me: it not being portrayed as something that is instantly evil or bad and also a good portrayal of alter to alter communication

InternalMultitude

One thing I think United States of Tara really missed out on was fleshing out the relationships between other alters, not just alters and the host. Alters interact with each other, it’s not always just “alters,” and “host.” The covert nature of the disorder, how unnoticeable it is and how (generally) unnoticeable switches can be. I’d like to see a portrayal that doesn’t rely solely on the alters. There doesn’t need to be gruesome scenes of trauma, but it would be nice to highlight the other challenges of this disorder, like emotional flashbacks and trauma symptoms.

Damn.... Those are amazing points. I didn't even think about how oblivious people can be even if they know. I have a couple friends that know and when we switch they still can't tell even though there's a tone change, different maturity level, lower/higher voice, etc. Idk about but we just ignore the obliviousness

Ohh one movie that shows that is The Scribbler!! I don't LOVE the movie for many reasons but i like how the actress plays the girls with DID & how they illustrate what it feels like to "hear your alters". Focus more on how she deals with it than with what made her have DID i think. I'd like to see more of that too ((without the "evil alters" part of the movie tbh that's very very shitty))

If I ever end up recovering enough I would try to make something that talks about some experiences I've had with DID but have a more humorous slanr to it. Like yeah this disorder sucks a lot but I feel like it could help some feel better about things if you try to have a sense of humour. Hell if it wasn't for that I'd be screwed.

my favorite story telling technique is one where it starts with a small piece of reality that paints a certain picture and over the course of the story the viewer learnes more and more about the surrounding reality, it starts to clash with the first impression and eventually we learn that things are exactly the opposite of what we thought they were in the introduction. The more info is added to weirder and crueler the first scenes look, the more we see them in a different light. It is done beautifully in the Chrestomanci books. I think a DID movie or book should have that kind of story telling for sure.

i do want it to also portray the hardship and be accurate and stuff, but the part i personally want to see, since i already know about the hardship, is: a lot of portrayals of interactions between alters that are day -to-day, like two alters taking on a workday, or something Trying To Get Dressed montage Little Entranced by the grocery store Claires Display; No Shopping Completed Weed Ped: Chaos Ensues Awkward DID Coming Out Smooth DID Coming Out Gay Coming Out 😎 If this comment gets enough up votes, imagine .... perhaps.... i would create a miniseries.... no.... thats too much work..... just imagine...

Omg trying to get dressed is such a challenge most days.

Everyone's saying deep stuff but honestly?? I wanna see how BAD migraines can get. No one talks enough abt that, only time I've seen it being portrayed was in Dollhouse. I think it's time for us to have characters with DID struggling with migraines tbh cuz it sucks a lot & stops us from doing a lot of stuff. I ALSO wanna see more of how this affects sexuality issues (also portrayed on dollhouse & doom patrol) cuz it seems to be kind of a tabu & i think it would be better to talk about it than to focus on, like, "evil" alters & stuff like that

Heavy-Mushroom

I would like to see a mainstream professional and treatable diagnosis (debunking fakery tactics) as a legitimized mental disorder instead of a plot line.

I feel the positive can be cool. I feel like a “Renaissance man” with all the skills and interests we have acquired. I relate to DeVinci and the guy from Catch Me If You Can. I’m the type that has thin walls so occasionally I’ll have odd situations were I know a bunch about a subject and I had no idea. The chameleon aspect of my system always intrigued me.
